Sound design is one of the most underrated/ignored aspects of video games. It contributes the most to the game's atmosphere and immersiveness, and yet when it comes to immersion, most people speak about the visuals and graphic design of the game; or they limit the scope of sound design to music only, and fail to notice literally everything else sound design is impacting.
13:55 "It's ok to break rules. Whatever sounds good is gonna sound good". No joke, I was at game music event, and one guy was telling us how he made some sounds for AAA game using vibrator on the fridge, and a dildo on a guitar or something. I jokingly asked if he has behind scenes materials, and he actually showed us the video! He used it to make machine sounds, and it got accepted. That game my friends is Metal Gear Solid 5. Think of that next time you play it
well, not every game has/needs voice acting. i think the series just sticks to the core elements needed in a game. though i DO WISH THEY HAD AN EPISODE ON IT T-T
Most of the voice acting done in the games I worked on was either by the dev team or by short contract voice actors. It's not a full time job in games dev.
This was so awesome, thank you so much! I especially loved the advice section at the end. I am watching this video as part of my research for a university coursework and sound design isn't heavily focused on. It was amazing to hear the advice and that I could do this as a career :) Thank you!
This was really great! I'm an aspiring game sound designer / composer trying to learn as much as possible about the industry, and this helped to reinforce a lot of the things I've been learning. Thanks for making and sharing this!
Thank you for this amazing explanation vid about sound design, it really well explained many concept about sound design and i believe even people like me don't know anything about it before we have a clue of what it is now.
The problem is not that I don't want sound in my game it's that I don't have voice actors, and I don't know how to make punching and kicking sound effects that have impact.
From 3:26 ... that's like me and my friends on discord. When we are playing some league xD. Anyway so far enjoying all parts of the series. Great tips, ideas and insight into the "making" process. As an artist i find this series really useful. Thank you Riot :3 Oh and can i have one question? Is Tomas the narrator from Czech Republic? If yes it's even better than I thought :D.
@Yornem Vilorio DeLaCruz Generating Sounds isn't hard. There's millions of free assets online. It's figuring out which ones, how many, and where to put them, how to make multiple sounds sound accurate when triggered simultaneously.
did you flip the spectral analyser at the beginning? when you say something that goes up in pitch, the visual slides to the left (usually down in frequency). maybe im being super ocd but i cant unsee it now.
im almost done with my demo for a crowdfunding game and I found this... shi*t... and I thought my nokia 6.1 phone(im poor sorry) would be enough to produce and record the game sounds... :'(

I'm majoring in audio engineering and I'm doing so much research and little projects I can so I could intern for Riot and hopefully work for y'all one day. The commitment and hard work that y'all have gave us with Arcane, Valorant Champions, KDA, and many more has gave me the strive to become a Rioter.
I am a Young Music Artist, I Really Liked Your Video, It Helped Me a Lot To Know The Sounds Much, I want to know What your Experience When You Started Your Sound Designing Work? And How Will You Inspire/Advice to The Other Artists To Become Better?
Don't know how I got here but that was a super fun watch lol..i actually was a sound fx bloke on a few BBC African radio dramas at the World Service back in the day, was pretty fun recording them live. Games audio looks a lot of fun actually.
step 1: learn beatboxing, got it.
Isn't that ryan Higa's brother?

I think this is because when something is truly immersive, you don't notice it

that doesn't mean he broke the rules tbh
@Sound Engineer Звукоинженер bro do you really know about sound engineering???
Interesting
Lul🤣🤦♂️
As a side note, a glimpse of a sound effect's process from beginning to finish (foley -> processing -> finish) would have been incredible material.
Great series, although, it would be cool to have an episode on voice acting

I have reasons to believe that it's a universal fact that sound artists are the coolest guys in any studio :D

What about music in games? Will you guys do a series on that??
they have "Frequencies - The Music of League of Legends" it's close enough
