I love how Calvin and Hobbes have a bigger fandom than 99% of other strips despite ending over 20 years ago and with no merchandise or other support of any kind.
May I introduce you to Peanuts and Garfield.

That is terrific. I adore Calvin and Hobbes.
IKR, I loved that comic series. Those were the days. :)
Classic. Are there more animations of Calvin and Hobbes? And if so, where can I find them ?
Me too.
Same
Yaaay so do I!!! Sorry I'm really late, but I still read them
I admire Bill for not selling out and keeping his series as pure as possible
Having that said, I've been wanting Calvin and Hobbes animated series for over 15 years >:(
Dare to dream...
I think Spielberg wanted to adapt the strip into animation in the early 90s and Watterson said no. As much as I'd love to see it, I don't know if Calvin & Hobbes will ever sell out during Watterson's lifetime
Bill Watterson is an incredibly selfish asshole, a copout and a hypocrite. I hope someone else gets the rights and does so much more with the comic when he refused to do anything.
Waterson is like the Bill Withers of cartoonists. Made one of the best corpuses of work in the medium he worked in and then retired permanently. Thats pretty basass
@tomaspabon2484 Actually, he came back, but his newest work isn't Calvin and Hobbes
I appreciate that you didn't give them voices.
I kinda wish they did speak (nothing much, just a few lines here and there like "There you are, Calvin!" or "Woah!")
Same. Part of me wanted a voice but I always just imagined what they sound like to me..and perhaps I shall keep it that way

Calvin and Hobbes is a magical comic strip
Honestly glad it never got a cheap cartoon or merch, and that it didn't overstay its welcome

I wouldn't mind seeing a CnH cartoon by traditional animators, but only material based on Watterson's writing and original panels. Nothing else need be changed. No licensing out for new material. What this animator did was quite good, despite being digital. I give him a lot of credit, doing a very good job retaining the original style and being consistent with that.
I still reckon a more authentic style would be just a little sketchier. Something about traditional hand drawn animation that has grit which is lost in modern animation. It's part of why the original Simpsons first decade still looks the best.
But overall I give this a kickass grade. 9/10
If I sound overly critical I hope it is clear that this is because I think it is very good and impressive and worth constructive criticism. Definitely welcome more by Adam, and thanks a lot. This made my day. You rocked it.
Bill Watterson said he contemplated giving the green light for something like this but ultimately decided it would be wrong to hear Calvin and Hobbes' voices.
@@mat5473 That's part of why I like this animation. It respects that by having both Calvin and Hobbes remain silent.
Never going to happen. At least not until Bill Waterson passes and someone snaps up the rights.
Watterson is/was super puritannical about any marketing of comics. There'll never be any spinoffs or merchandise as long as he has anything to say about it.
@@mat5473 In animation you don't need voices unless the comic strip was dialogue-based prophet sees no issue.
This brought tears to my eyes because I grew up with calvin and hobbes and yet never saw them move. Amazing!!
"I keep forgetting that he's sharp and pointy on 5 ends." -Calvin
w h a t
@@whybother5741 It refers to one of the strips (I think it might be in "Weirdos From Another Planet"- not sure)- where Calvin decides to suddenly pounce on Hobbes. ("YAAAAHHH!). Hobbes, sleeping on his back, wakes up, instinctively raises all 4 limbs, exposes his claws and bares his fangs. Next panel, Calvin's walking away in pain, scratched all over and his clothes are shredded, saying "I keep forgetting that he's sharp and pointy on 5 ends when he lies like that." :)
@@bluecollarcanuck oh ok.
Man, they should've hired you to be on the animation team for the new Peanuts movie.
For an animation on RUclips, this is WAY ahead of it’s time
You really captured the animation and movement of Calvin really well! The sounds were a little confusing, but well done indeed!
wow neat!
Calvin and Hobbes was and still is my favorite comic ever. Well done 😭😭
Greatest comic strip of all time.
Seeing Calvin and Hobbes animated feels cursed but I also love it
I was so sad to see this strip end. I've bought all of the books, but I wish there was more...like a cartoon. Bill Watterson had not just a great sense of humor, but also was a great thinker. The philosophy he added randomly into the strips really made you think any time Calvin would say something deep while staring at the stars, or roaming through the woods.
I love that both of the characters are named after philosophers (John Calvin, French Theologian & Philosopher and Thomas Hobbes, English Moral Philosopher).
This is a real treat for Calvinists Who read paper and love Calvin And Hobbs in Funny Pages.
Love Calvin and Hobbes. Still miss em!
Sir, this animation is my happy place. Very well done!
Absolutely. I can't even imagine what he'd sound like.
Matt frewer as Hobbes lol
@@eddiegray2080 😂🤣
What Watterson did was something completely out of the box.
Wow I have to admit I love this. No speaking which allows the viewers to retain the voice they think that the characters have while utilizing animation for the strip!
Childhood memories...
We are are never going to get a Calvin and Hobbes animated series, but this is the next best thing.
I still have (and read!) my copy of Something Under the Bed Is Drooling from '88. Pure, non-cynical, irony free quality.
OMG!!! Calvin & Hobbes has been my absolute favorite cartoon of all time!
I own ALL the books! It's how I learned to read!
So the fact that you guys actually animated some pieces of the comic is beyond words!
But, the fact you actually kept the integrity of the comic by not adding voiceovers and only sound effects is so honorable to Bill's work.
I love that you made this! 😄😁
Is there any chance of you making another one? Like MOST Calvin and Hobbes fans, I felt a spark watching your brilliant animation of these two coming to life. Can't hurt in asking. Lol
ye me too
We seriously needed a good C&H cartoon.
Sadly this will NEVER happen.
I don’t think there’s any way they’d be able to get the voices right. At best you might please 15-20% of the fan base. But I think almost everyone imagines the voices of Calvin and Hobbes differently
@@quadphonics and that is probably for the best. It would never live up to the dizzyingly high expectations we all would have for it. and that's assuming no meddling from network/studio executives, which let's face it, they would try to change so many things. best just to enjoy the strips.
The transition from dots to big eyes is perfect.
If they ever make an animated version of Calvin and Hobbes, they need to hire this guy and get the guy who voiced Bart from The Simpsons to voice Calvin, Will Forte as Hobbes, Bryan Stepanek as Calvin's Dad, and Kath Soucie from Many shows, but more to the voice of the mom in Dexter's Laboratory.
The “guy” you’re thinking of is Nancy Cartwright, who’s a girl.
_holy smokes this is brilliant_
If there was ever to be an animated Calvin and Hobbes cartoon (even though it would be against Bill Watterson's wishes) it would look like this. Excellent work.
I would love to see Calvin and Hobbes in a cartoon show but Watterson won't
I think that's a good move on his part. It's so great the way it is. Why try to top it? Why risk ruining it?
Ya. I also think it would be very hard to find a voice for both of them that a majority of people would agree sounded right.

Holy crap, RUclips! This is in my recommended list 10 yrs late. If C&H had ever gotten a show, this is style it should have had.
not bad not bad, i was worried at the beginning that this was gunna distort my perception of the characters by giving them weird voices or something but it was wonderfully restrained, oty
Amazing!! You should definitely make more Calvin and Hobbes animations!!
Calvin and Hobbes would be perfect for an animated series or movie
When your favorite book series is animated.
Niiiiiice.
I actually love the sounds, they're like asmr

I used to look forward to reading their comic strips in the local newspaper.
Loved all 28 seconds of this!

Tigger: “Brrrrrrrrrrr! Hello, I’m Tigger!”
This is the best thing I've seen in my life.
i love how the youtube algorithm is recommending this after 8 years
I remember falling in love with Calvin and Hobbes in the children's books. I just LOVED the art style and. never got the jokes cuz I was too busy staring at the pictures trying to recreate them. memories...
Me, sees this and thinks it's just a cheap representation of Calvin and hobbes:
Also me: "O my word this is art!"
INCREDIBLE!!!
Best comic strip ever. Mr. Watterson would be so proud.
The best part was the way Hobbes just smiles. Genius.
This is great, but it speaks to the craft of Watterson that you can tell when @adamanimates didn't have frames to reference.
Awesome! Please make more!!!

I grew up in Sweden during the 80's so I grew up reading "Kalle och Hobbe" as they are called here in Swedish! Greetings from Sweden!🇸🇪
It's nice to see you again, childhood memories.
Bill Waterson needs yo see this and make it and oficial cartoon
Unfortunately, Watterson does'nt want to take his comics away by turning into a merchendise and even animation. That's unfair! He needs to accept it and turned into an animated series.
@@poweroffriendship2.0 But it's HIS work, and if he doesn't want to sell out, that's fine, not unfair. There are few people in this world who don't feel that fame will bring them happiness.
Watterson won't license an official animation, but he also doesn't interfere with people making fan works like this. So I have no complaints.
@@Madbandit77 It's kinda sad. If I created a cartoon show, then I don't have interest of merchandise and all that. Plus, being famous doesn't make me happy either (unless if my work is successful).
Wonderful job! Bravo!

The purring is what tipped the scale into amazing.
That was incredible and they looked identical to the comics and what I would have expected an animated show to look like had there ever been one. thank you for bringing life to my favorite comic strip of all time. You've made me very happy.
Very Cool!

Nostalgia in its purest form
Great cartoons read all the books , makes me chuckle even when I’m down. Love them .🏴👍😀
This could be a Kickstarter to rival Veronica Mars if Watterson let the rights go.
This is Cute
I don't know why this was suggested to me now.
I also found it slightly eerie that my phone just so happened to ring shortly after Calvin looked up from his truck the first time. Eerie, but funny.
That was Hobbes calling to give you a fast heads-up that he and Calvin were only nanoseconds away from doing some indescribably crazy-mad wicked awesome funny stuff - and NOBODY does indescribably crazy-mad wicked awesome funny stuff better than Calvin and Hobbes!!!!! I loved, Loved, LOVED, ❤️'d it!!!!!
As long as I don't hear the voices of Calvin, Hobbes, or his parents this is okay. Respect the wishes of the guy who wrote the strip.
THIS IS EVERYTHING I WANTED AS A YOUND CHILD
*well done*
The purring at the end. Pure genius.
NOSTALGIA!!!!!! Oh god that hit me right in the childhood. But man that was amazing!
what did u use to annimate
This is just so lovingly done. The character animation is spot-on, and I love how Calvin's eyes transition from one style to another, depending on where he's looking and his mental state.
But what really seals it is the multimedia -- the fire and the snow. I love how you made both effects look like animated watercolors. They're small details well in keeping with Watterson's brilliant artwork.
Again, well done.
After reading a Calvin and Hobbes comic for the first time, they were like a childhood book of my life.

Wow, I was really expecting to be hurt and disappointed by this, but you managed to capture the feel of the comic very well without going overboard. Not sure how it would hold up in any kind of longer format, but this was very well done. Thanks!
Surprisingly, now it just feels right to have an animated version of Calvin and Hobbes...
Not only is the animation lovely, but you put in an extra gag that fits or even enhances the original joke!
