Yeah, but Calvin talks about his lunches being gross to mess with Susie. That, and his mom was right on his tail.
He would buy the school lunch and sit next to Susie and say something gross. Like if it's spaghetti he'd say it's dead worms covered in chunky cow blood

Calvin and Hobbes will remain a purest, ethical, anti-capitalism art form breed. no selling out for Watterson. no horrible dull and poorly appropriated cartoons to worry about defiling the comic. this makes me very happy as this is a comic that I hold dear from many years ago.
Thank you for using the highly inspired school photo of Calvin @ 2:03. That’s one of my absolute favorites. I took note of this when I was 11 and made the same face for my school photos; I’ve never seen steam come out of my Dad’s ears before. My old man had a talent for cartoon-like facial expressions back then.
I grew up reading this comic strip so much, and I was always sad a cartoon never got made. But your animation was completely perfect in every way! Haha so funny I knew what would happen at the end of each part due to how much I read this stuff😂
Bill said that he only wanted it to exist in the comic world. Hence, why there wasn't any stuff animal Hobbes ever made.

The same for Foxtrot. I used to dream back in 2010-2012 that there was animated series on Cartoon Network. But yes I am very sad that there is no Calvin and Hobbes animated series. The closest we have to an animated series is that 2014 webseries.
This is one of my favorite Sunday strips of Calvin and Hobbes. And the music fits so well!
I lived for Calvin growing up. Watterson was and IS a LEGEND!!!! HE NEVER SOLD OUT! Good on him. Calvin lives forever.

One of my all-time favorite cartoons of Calvin And Hobbes. Any parent and child can relate! Thanks for doing a great job on the animation.
Calvin's mom's scream is so legendary!
Watterson's strip was pure genius. He knew how to nail all the key moments, culminating in Calvin's mother primal scream, one that (however sikent) ends all primal screams.
This rendition was effective in bringing it all to life, but was there really a need to begin with? With it, we become benign spectators to all the action, whereas the strip alone had our imaginations run as fast as Calvin catching the bus. That is where the fun truly was, in my opinion. (And, yes, generally speaking, I favor books over movies.)

I love how you animated the bus bouncing away! I always thought the bouncing vehicles in "Calvin and Hobbes" were funny.
1:59 I love the detail of the photo of Calvin making a face taken from a real strip made previously. I had that strip between the pages of my "Comix" school diary and it was positioned to be one of the first cartoons to find when opening it casually
glad to see the Calvin and Hobbes fanbase is still alive, a great chapter in my child hood :)

This works for me on so many levels. It's well-animated, and there's bits and pieces that weren't in the original comic but fit well. Smooth McGroove's acapella of the SMW level theme is a nice touch, as is the photo of Calvin's best "smile" when his mom returns in a huff. I adore this so much, what a labor of love.

Very good. I remember I read Calvin and Hobbes comic for the first time at school in 1998 and I was eight in that year. I have three Calvin and Hobbes books.
In the UK, my home country Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, some Calvin and Hobbes compilation books were originally published by Warner Books, a formerly of Warner Communications, now a defunct division of Hachette Book Group USA after Time Warner (then WarnerMedia, now Warner Bros. Discovery) sold their book publishing business to Hachette Livre in March 2006, the North American operations of the Time Warner Book Group were renamed Hachette Book Group, while the group's Warner Books imprint became Grand Central Publishing, named in part by the proximity of their new offices to New York's Grand Central Terminal.
Anyway Calvin and Hobbes is one of my favourite American comic strips of all time.
I first read in 1995 when I was eight years old. All the kids read comics and cartoon books on my bus. We had a Calvin and Hobbes and Garfield frenzy. Good times.

I use to read the comic strips in a newspapers when I was a very young kid and yes I enjoyed them too. It's been a very long time since I had read the newspaper, just wondering if they still do comic strips in them yet. The last time I heard a newspaper probably back in 1997 maybe.

It's a shame Bill Watterson never wanted to make to make merchandise or a cartoon out of Calvin & Hobbes. I would definitely own a Hobbes doll & watched the cartoon!
Yeah, it could've been as popular as the Peanuts cartoons. Given he was partly inspired by Peanuts to make Calvin and Hobbes it would've been cool to see an animated series for this strip.

It's funny you say that because that is exactly what the script and he was against. Hobbes is based of a child's imagination. If he made hundreds of thousands of Hobbes dolls it wouldn't be imaginary for the child or the person who bought it. Make your own Hobbes!
If he'd been a skilled animator too he may have. If he was the one doing it all, then no one could tarnish the genuineness of his work.

I always wondered what an animated Calvin and Hobbes would look like. In truth, the only way it could be done is like this--in 2-3 minute shorts. Anything else undermines the feel and tone.

Sadly that's ALL you can have, officially. I never could decide if it was a commendable thing for Watterson to not license Calvin and Hobbs to merchandisers or a piss-off. It's a piss-off because if you were like 10 when the comic strip was active you wanted a Hobbs plushie. On the other hand it's respectable that Watterson just wanted to write the comic strip and that's it. He didn't want to be like Schluz or Davis and have some marketing monopoly circus based around his characters while turning his back on millions of dollars. That's very respectable.

Earlier after the school bus left, I believe Calvin argued his mother about "taking away" his lunch, whereas his mother argued with Calvin for leaving the bus stop.

How did Calvin and Hobbes never get an animated series?
The creator didn't want to cash out on it. Bill's been pretty open that he didn't want to dillute the original strip.
I don't think wanting to cash in on a series with effort is bad, but if it starts to feel like the series is a cash grab, it kind of ruins it. That's exactly that Watterson was afraid of, and why some fans abandon franchises like Pokemon- they feel it's become too soulless and money-grabby without the original spark.
@@headphonesaxolotl I completely understand. Calvin and Hobbes will always have that original spark, and the fact that I want more means they went out on top. Love it.

Very wrong. He didn’t want them COMMERCIALIZED into big tv. Big difference. There’s a thousand animated C&H tributes on RUclips for years now, if he didn’t like them, they would’ve been pulled a long time ago.
