you can surely tell that these guys are working on hourly paid job :D We have it here also, trash truck drivers get here something like 15€ per hour, but also as a bonus they do get a price per bin and price per lifted trash from ground. This kind of job could not be possible in a modern country. And BTW, it is normal, that truck drivers and that other guy collects the tras manually, as it goes faster. Here we are just a single person with our own trucks, and we are doing the same job by one man, and faster then you. You are blessed.

Sadly, California emission standards tend to force these trucks off the road or out of state despite them being in rather good condition.
