It was said that this song was inspired by Paul's writing a letter to his then girlfriend ( Jane Asher ), about him being on the road, love her and misses her so much...Now, I could be wrong, but some made it sounds as if it's an actual letter he wrote to her...If so, that means he wrote it in a poetic song format?.. None the less, it's truly a beautiful classic...One of my favorite..
"Close your eye and I'll kiss you" were the very first words sung by the Beatles to America LIVE on the Ed Sullivan show. After that television debut, they went to DC to perform. You will see photographs of them throwing snow balls in the parking lot of the arena. I always felt they should have put a statue of the four in that spot, but it was not to be. Now that space is part of an REI's flagship store. I was fortunate enough to take pictures of that whole arena before it was completely refurbished and changed forever.. You will notice that they are in the middle of the arena. That's because the stage was actually a boxing ring. So basically they came out like boxers onto the stage, ready to fight. That's why you see Ringo on a circular drum kit so that the band could play to both sides of the audience. This show really has a lot of energy in it and dispels the idea that the Beatles were not good live performers. Their problem was they just simply did not have the technology to be able to override all the screaming. I don't think they even had monitors on the stage to hear them selves play.
Addendum: Correction, its Jimmi Nicol doin the best Ringo sit in eva who was being the most important 'Beatle' for 3 mins !! He even got the nose spot on. Fooled this ol critter Jimi!🤓👍👍
