@@chipgaasche4933 The duet harmony part, yes, written or dreamt up by Paul most definitely maybe. I hadn’t noticed the recorded version but then I only realised recently the middle 8 in Hard Day’s Night was sung by Paul. I thought the whole lead vocal was John for decades :) Thanks for the info. A fave record of my mum’s.
@@SStone-dm7es Paul double-tracked his own harmony on "Loving" on the recording, IIRC. George sang the lead live, because he couldn't hit McCartney's high harmony part, and John was busy playing that very difficult rhythm pattern (I'm a guitarist of 63 years). At any rate, this could be the only time you ever hear that vocal combination, and it really sounded fabulous. John and Paul never gave George the credit he deserved, and George was a band within a band as everything he did was way different from what John and Paul did.

Yes its George LIVE but interestingly Their First performance of this song on British TV was Mimed to the record with JOHN miming Georges part . Check it out .
John's guitar playing is amazing! he didn't sing the harmony live because his guitar part was so complex. george did it well. and ... Jimmie Nicol on drums, who played 8 shows while ringo was ill. he sounds good here. john and paul would ask him how it was going and he'd say - it's getting better. :)
Just FYI, his name is James Nicol. His professional name as a drummer was Jimmie Nicol. I agree with what wrote, he did an admirable job filling in for Ringo. I believe he played eight concerts. He was a perfect sub, since he had been playing with a Beatle cover band and already knew almost ALL of Ringo's fills.

REALLY nice ... to be able to actually hear George and Paul singing together on probably the only recording of their two voices in harmony (on THIS song, live). George takes Paul's melody line and Paul jumps up to catch the harmony line. VERY well engineered, by people who knew what they were doing back in 1964, during a time when most of the world could not get the mike volumes right or even tighten the mike stands to keep the mikes from twisting or sliding down toward the floor. This was excellent. Thank you for posting.
@stealthbastard8837 I first saw them on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. When they did All My Loving and Paul and George harmonized on the same mic, I was hooked. It was magical to me; it still is.
@@keithhyttinen8275 That's what I thought as well. But turns out the vocals are pre-recorded as well. Just check the entire concert (it's here on YT), and it's especially obvious with George miming to "Roll Over Beethoven".

Ok - so this is when Jimmy Nicol filled in for Ringo on the drums. Ringo had a severe case of tonsillitis. Nicol played about 8 performances between 4-14 of June 1964.

Probably Jimmy Nicoll. Ringo had a bout with tonsillitis and missed some tour dates in 1964.

George at the tender young age of 21 playing a masterful lead guitar. The solo is remarkable. Thanks for the great memories, George.
"remarkable"? Hardly. I can play it..and I'm a keyboard player. Lol

Love George’s harmony and John’s rhythm guitar they make a great song greater.
It was McCartney's harmony on the record.

I read this somewhere and it fits perfectly here: The Beatles were not a band....THE BEATLES WERE AN INCREDIBLE MIRACLE.
I like the way George did as second voice indeed he has also a golden voice too
He actually did take the first voice while Paul goes higher in the harmony! Just wonderful!!
