I was lucky to go to a LCMS high school where we studied other religions and I continued to study other religions when in college. If only there were like a universal religion. Don't misunderstand, people can be free to choose as they believe (and vice versa), but if there was just some sort of global church that was widely-present in different places, but with a single center where everything could be hashed out in a spirit of holiness. And preferably with some sort of pedigree. Basically one, holy, universal, and pedigreed church. I would totally join a church that had those 4 conditions.

Which is the antithesis to my experience. I personally have never had a belief in the supernatural and, like Mr. Dennett touched on, that "needing" something can easily be replaced by what we see around us. Particularly nature. When religion all but expires for humanity, which will happen, it'll be a much smoother runway for life.

As a primary care physician for 3 years I can attest to this, and feel grief over its loss with the loss of faith in community - quite apart from the question of the existence of God. Having followed the path of atheism in my own life development, and having been influenced by your thought, I have come around (over many years) to feel and believe that in fact the notion of "God" means something - something deeper than even religion gives it - and that in time it will be okay to return to faith in a naturalistic way that explains and supports the notion of God, and lets us return to the experience and life of faith in an authentic way.

I may as well be an atheist, but I'm not quite there yet. I long abandoned the notion that god is something that hears prayers, or is in any way capable of being something which can separately interact with humankind. If that kind of god exists, it must be "hiding somewhere in South America."

Folks, is David telling you the truth about the facts? Consider the facts. See with your eyes, not your ears.
TRUTH... Who favors Putin? Who favors Illegals over Black American Citizens? The Eye/Ear thing applies
Trump and Republicans Sanctioned Putin Nord Stream 2 Gas Pipeline. Trump showed Anti Putin
Biden and Democrats gave Putin a gift and Lifted those Sanctions right away. Biden showed Pro Putin
Dems are lying and their voters don't know it or don't care
Trump and Republicans Secured our Borders to Protect America
Biden and Democrats immediately Opened Our Borders up to the entire world
and Democrats are telling Black Americans to give up their Communities.
They are giving away their Schools, Community Centers, Med Center, and $$$
      to Illegals.
WHY didn't Dems ever offer these FREE checks and FREE benefits to Black Americans?
Democrat Governor Hochul is trying to give STATE JOBS to Illegals but didn't do this for
Black American Citizens. (I think it was around 4,000 jobs all total)
The Border Bill Dems are pushing will allow 35,000 Illegals per week. Over a million a yr.
Trump and Republicans want to Close the Border again.
So folks, check facts and see with your eyes, not your ears.

Good show - Daniel is a thoughtful speaker- very logical and kind - I've listened to him for a long while- I feel compelled to define some words -
Secular basically means: Of an age - a certain time - and having no dogma - just observing things around you ______________ Without being told what to think-
Diachronic means: Studying something over time-
I'm amazed that this planet hit the galactic jackpot of life existing in this solar system- and then- to imagine the crazy size of the Milky Way Galaxy- The Human Species hit the jackpot-
And it feels like it's been wasted-
by dogma, and stories from 2000 years ago-
Not even just Christianity- all religions- Why is your religion right and another wrong? God wants every one to fight for there place in heaven? Is that the moral-?
Written documents/stories before the bible exist- that deal with morality and choices-
    Aesop's Fables-
    Homer and the Iliad-
Humans have decided what laws are, and the limits of acceptable conduct-since the Greeks, and even farther back-
If you are the asshole in a tribe- guess what - you are not in the tribe- that might go back 100,000 years-
I don't want to be told a story of what the world is-
I want to see what the world is -

    • @xelasomar4614
      @xelasomar4614 8 месяцев назад

"..it feels like it's been wasted..." Before christianity was born, the arabs, middle eastern, mediterranean, and the orient had the rudiments of science, had advanced math to algebra and trigonometry levels using the decimal numerical system (0-9). You could not do so without having the value zero (0).
If you check history, countries that fell under christian control, Europe and parts of Mediterranea, used the "Roman" numerical system (I, II, III, IV..) until the 1,500's. The reason for this was the church prohibited the teaching and introduction of the decimal system, because it contained the number zero (0). The reason for this is they didn't want the concept of infinity, or nothingness known, because infinity and nothingness contradicted the model of the universe and reality they followed and taught to make a god created cosmos. They did allow certain guilds to learn it for the obvious necessities, building stuff, etc., like masons and Jesuits. But you had to be initiated into them.
Now think the amount of progress that has occurred in only about 200 years. From lightning with candles to electricity, from just riding horses to putting rovers on Mars, in medicine, from using leeches to genetically designed cures, and on and on. *Religion held back human progress for 1,500 years* because it threatened their mythology and hence control of the population.
