Sam Harris and Christopher Hitchens exemplify the pinnacle of spoken language skills. I haven't encountered anyone else who speaks English more eloquently while maintaining utmost clarity of thought. They reminded me of the often-forgotten fact that words carry meaning.

Hi 'Sok--01', I miss Hitchens too; but since I am both an Atheist as well as an Existential, I well understand that though he(The Master) is no longer 'with-us'; he gave us his whole Being while here. We alone realize he actually is 'NoWhere'(see the organic disperse-ment of our own atoms and elements)--when we 'die' and rot-away, but NoLonger here. Master-Beings such as Mister Hitchens is otherwise 'extended' in leaps-and-bounds by those of us who fondly followed and remember him.

Tolstoy was not a stupid person, in the essay "A Confession" in his late life after heavy suicidal depression he turns into religion, finding some meaning (He saw and experienced a lot in his life). Manitou, they are just four fools.
Hitch who pretends to know the bible as he screws up on it over and over again including what faith means biblically.
---"Faith is the surrender of the mind, it's the surrender of reason, it's the surrender of the only thing that makes us different from other animals. It's our need to believe and to surrender our skepticism and our reason, our yearning to discard that and put all our trust or faith in someone or something, that is the sinister thing to me. ... Out of all the virtues, all the supposed virtues, faith must be the most overrated”--- Christopher Hitchens
Now, look at what biblical faith really means that Hitch the dumbass didn't even look at:
Biblically, faith means trust. It's a trust by evidence seen. God asks that we prove things. To reason. To get knowledge. To study. God has nothing to hide. We develop trust from what is seen, and that which is not seen yet is trusted also because of the trust built up from what is seen. It's much like a human relationship. We don't trust much until a person has gained that trust from what is observed. The difference is though, God is not limited to human powers. He created us.
Romans 1:20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

Hitchens always went into evasive word farting to avoid key questions like how we got the creation of the universe.
Real science says nothing does nothing. Real science says if there was something there already it must fit with the evidence of what we know. We know the 1LT says there's a conservation of energy. It can change forms and neither can be created or destroyed. Creation cannot happen by natural means. The 2LT has various aspects, one being the universe is winding down, entropy. Usable energy is becoming less usable, so at one point usable energy was at its max. This all points to a supernatural creation, by a supernatural creator at a certain point in which matter, space and time were created. When I read how it can happen otherwise, ALL the fools resort to science-fiction. Once a supernatural creation is accepted, then the next step is finding proof of what supernatural power did it.
We can't even get science without God. The laws of nature only can come from a Lawgiver, God.
      Only fools follow dumbass Hitchens.

Once new atheism helped european churches fall & thus be looted by the european aristocracy they'd tasted blood. "In an afterlife?"
Just as I said, the dumbass is dead. He's not anywhere. There is no conscience. Even Christians are DEAD.
Rather than explain anything to a bozo like you, show that you know what the bible is saying. For years I used to go through verses you dumbasses have no idea what you're talking about and clarify things in not only the context, but the whole picture. Then the dumbasses would just deny it all even though they had no proof why and go to anther bible subject they were dumbasses about.
The bible says the fools have no delight in understanding. This shows even with the beginning, creation. Fools set their pattern from the beginning that they don't care about being logical, honest and scientific in their approach to the evidence, they just want what they want and to hell with truth. So, show that you cherish a good pattern about creation and what follows.Show that you went through the bible and just didn't jump around but started with a logical process.
Did you ever read the first verse of the bible about the supernatural creation done by the supernatural creator, God? If you want to mock God, then you should have great evidence that creation happened all on its own. There is NO proof of that. Only a fool will even think that and accept it. Once that's accepted, then all the rest of foolish thoughts not caring about details will follow. Here is a great example of what a fool accepts. They started it by accepting a natural creation and is not embarrassed to show their ignorance from that point on.

We have life in this universe, a universe that got here somehow. Are you with me so far or is the hurting your brain capacity? Biblically, faith means trust. It's a trust based on reasonable evidence. Faith (trust) comes by hearing the word of God. I don't trust God because I could disprove what He said in the bible.

Once a supernatural creation is accepted, then the next step is finding proof of what supernatural power did it.-----
Then the extreme order we have in our universe that defies all physics, but....., not to atheists/agnostics. It's just happened by mere chances even though we prove it can't happen by chance. Funny!
      www.inplainsite.org/html/anthropic_principles.html
      kgov.com/fine-tuning-of-the-universe
And life? Well, it just came from non-life. It's so absurd it's even hard to type that, but....., atheists/agnostics claim to believe it happened somehow by natural means. Again, funny!
Many have brought up such issues how funny it is, including James Tour.

Then, what this life did after it started by mere chance can't happen by science, but....., atheists/agnostics believe it did. Funny!
Life takes information to form and proceed on. But to atheists/agnostics, chaos through time gave us information. Although it's even hard to write such a ridiculous statement, they believe it. All one can do is laugh at such stupidity.

I've kept this very basic and brief. I can provide much deeper, yet there's no need to since each point proves there is no explanation for such things to have happened naturally. This IS evidence against such things happening naturally. Lame excuses of why it can still have happened naturally with no science to support it are just that, lame excuses.
There's a ton more. If you want a laugh, see what atheists/agnostics believe.

The element of it which I wish wasn't ignored is that the shepherd doesn't do so for his love of the lives of the sheep, but rather so he can take their wool and eat their flesh. In the end, the key difference between shepherd and wolf is that the wolf never tries to convince the sheep they won't be eaten.

Not just in his discourse, but in his entire persona and the way in which he carried himself with confidence and respect when speaking with fellow intellectuals (who weren't representatives of religion). Just found this absolutely wonderful gem. Thank you for posting this. And Sam Harris is my hero in terms of putting ones thoughts so eloquently and elegantly. It's refreshing to see her was as sharp in his younger days as he is now.

All four of these gentlemen are highly intelligent and greatly respect each other. it's great to see all four of these intellectual men together. having a conversation about such important topics. it's so sad and a shame that Christopher Hitchens is no longer with us. he is definitely missed.

This conversation frees my mind just to see and hear these intelligent people talk about Religion in such and open and honest way. Because of these people and their views on Religion - Its hard to describe but I feel more content, at ease with who I am and so much better able to understand how I co-exist with not just people of faith but people of non faith. A big Thank you to all four of you.

after having dabbled in meditation for the last few years, and teenage years marked by strong atheism, watching debates of these gents etc., i feel i'm right at the moment where i can appreciate this discussion from a more well rounded perspective.
it's not the same as just being a militant atheist. after seeing some of the spiritual path without any magic or metaphysics, i return to these guys as they talk about those who believe in the most irrational things. pretty encouraging.

I'm so happy to have found this, I have so so much to learn and its great to have teachers like these four. I have been over much of Mr Hitchens works, same with Mr Dawkins, also I have known a great lot about Mr Harris but I haven't delved into his work until lately. But what a charm it is, to figure there is another man that was at close standings with the 3 I mentioned moments before, Daniel Dennett seems to be a whole new chapter in the book of theology, that I cannot wait to find out more information about! This is quite exciting.

I'm afraid to say this but I found out about Christopher Hitchens far too late, I don't know how I missed him. This is the first time I've heard him speak, he has that certain relaxing voice, tone that is easy to listen to.... Wow!! He just so reinforces my lifelong atheistic beliefs. I only came here because of Dawkins. Same with Daniel... *Hides face in shame**
I will defo watch more of Hitchens...
