There's a book called, "SOG: The Secret Wars of America's Commandos in Vietnam." It's probably one of the best books I've read on the Vietnam War, the first chapter is a little slow, but thereafter it's extremely eye-opening into what really went on in Vietnam! I defiinitely recommend it!!
Try finding a copy of 'Running Recon' by Frank Greco. Then attempt to acquire the Tornek-Rayville TR-900. Good luck with that ;-) From the Sep 30th, 2023 Hodinkee article: :Watches with a story like this don't come around very often, and I'll be watching closely to see how it does against the $80,000 to $120,000 estimate"
Bought my Seiko SNK381 and immediately removed the steel bracelet and replaced it with a green canvas Citizen miltary version two piece strap. Honestly its a bargain under £150 UK and is a close representation of the original Mac v Sog watches . I have various military re issues and this was a surprising and excellent edition to my small collection consisting of CWC , Bulova , Marathon, and more recently Hammilton Khaki Great video regarding the history around this watch and Mac V Sog
Dam Seiko? Has alot of iconic watches and what's really cool is they have alot of different designs from the Pogue, the Willard, the Arnie, the Tunas the 62mas and the Seiko 7A28-7040 chronograph. That I wish would make a return and what's awesome 👌 is all these designs have their own identity. I love Quartz aswell as automatics. The legendary Seiko 7C46 high torque movement is one of my favorite movement's
My Dad just gave me this watch he got when he was in Vietnam but I need a band for it do you know what size I should get or a link to one that would help me out so much thansk for the vid
I just ordered this watch yesterday from Praesidus. They are IMPOSSIBLE to contact in anyway real time. They also have no employee or owner info ecept a huge International Fashion Marketing Co. I believe I will receive the watch...But i am Concerned Praesidus is just a front name for a larger corp. I am suspicious they are not an actual physical company....maybe someone can do some research. I repeat im sure ill get the watch....but someone tell me who runs and owns them, where are they in the US and why no Customer Service? Thanks
They used to send me an invoice with every watch for customs and there are legal informations on it and an address in New York with the name Praesidus. You cannot do his afaik when a company is not in existence. Your tax guy would kill you the next second ;-) But you do find collaborations with smaller watch brands and marketing companies. I've noticed that a lot of times, but I don't see the problem to be honest. You can contact them via their website, top menu.
@@CasebackWatches I don't doubt their existence, just who and how they are really structured. I have spoken to the founder and principal figure, nice guy. They actually a brand of Montrichard (New York) and a very small microbrand E-COMMERCE operation. I did order my watch and know i will be happy with it. Thanks for your response and as always excellent, informative reviews ! Cheers Doug
38 mm perfect ❤ need to have one...Seiko SNK381 btw is nice but too short lug to lug, looka strange on a leather strap...for me 38 mm is a much better size.
Nice video! If you were to rank what’s important to you in a watch, how would you rank them? Thinking of aesthetic, story, build quality, value for money… am I missing anything?
I happen to be wearing my Seiko SNK805 today - 37mm and if I remember correctly it cost only about US $60 a few years ago. The Praesidus looks over-priced in comparison.
Hi Tim, very nice review! Keep up the good work. I just happen to have a Seiko 5 SNK381 in my collection. This little Seiko looks exactly like the vintage one and for less than half the money... Why don't you give it a shot?
I've owned that Seiko last year and sold it. The reason for me is it doesn't hack. Mine needed to be regulated as well extremely slow. Lastly it resembles the Seiko's but needs the hands changed out to get closer....the REC SPEC is very very close in appearance and has a better Seiko movement with 50m water resistant vs 30m thats why for me..
for all the guys saying that oooo this is so overpriced!!! just buy a seiko !!! no guys, a seiko is not the answer for everybody. seikos have unfortunately NO LUMED DIALS/NUMBERS. which is a mind fuck in my opinion, as to why not just put some luminova there? so unfortunately we have to spend some more money to have this!
Just get the SNK381 it is a Seiko 5 that looks very similar to the MACV-SOG Seiko 5 from the 1960s.
Agree, bought one and pleasantly surprised with it 😊
@@samzerafa3185 And it has the all important 5 on the dial.
And for half the price

I got one too, but it's harder and harder to find.
It is gorgeous and the lume is excellent!
The black-dialed Seiko 5 that I wore in high school was purchased in Vietnam by my father during the Vietnam War.
Any idea what exact ref that was? Do you still have it?

Glad to see it hasn't an open glass case back
I agree with your take on 36mm and acrylic crystal. Thanks for the review!
Thanks for watching!

yah but not lumed. dealbreaker for me
I just got a vintage Longines in 32mm. I wouldn't have thought, but it seems to work for me.
Thanks Tim an interesting watch and back story 👍
I own the Seiko 5 version. On a black leather strap, the watch is outstanding with great heritage.
Yes it is.

Been away far too long. Love your reviews. Cheers 🍻!
Welcome back!
The watch has the Seiko NH36 caliber.

I believe this watch is hand winding.
Automatic.
@7:58 you mention that hand winding is not possible... but the watch does in fact hand wind in addition to being automatic.
