As a designer, my biggest tip is don't get scared away from the paint colour you really want. In the long run, you can always repaint a room so go for it
I'm totally trying to be in this mindset too and be a bit more daring!! It's so worth it!
Curious to your opinion. But I went with colours and although I love them I don't feel calm and relaxed. So I'm repainting. Any tips?
I definitely agreed with you about wanting a hallway. Hallways give you that cosy feeling when you walk into your house.

Just wanted to put down my personal idea about the kitchen area, we have an island and almost never use it as a sitting area. Especially when you have guests for dinner or breakfast or smt, its great to have a nice dining area. Id personally make it a dining room make it nice and cozy to host cute little dinners:))

When I moved into my house I painted the whole house white, so glad I did it because when I actually lived in the house I decided differently against when I was just renovating. Always go for the lighter colour as it’s easier to go darker than go lighter :) so excited for you !! Xx

Yes to the hallway. I actually have a hallway the size of a living room. I’ve toyed with actually sectioning off a snug but it’s so lovely to have a hallway. It’s one of my favourite rooms. And we all need shoe storage when kids come along. It’s also the most amazing party room for kids as there’s no furniture so I can do musical statues etc. Hallways are not a waste of space (when you have enough space elsewhere for what you need- which you do)

Don’t feel frightened to go wild with the paint colours. Do what feels right and trust me, it’s just paint so you can always redo it later.
Snug space, keep it a snug not a dining room for now. Don’t need wall lights for sure.
Can always add a couple of arm chairs to divide the space.
The furniture depends on your personal views. Whether you prefer more clean lines or organic shapes. I always find if you have a large square/ rectangular island to go for a rounded coffee table to soften the space.
Have a play on Pinterest and see what items you consistently love throughout the photos and that will also help.
We painted very bold colours in some of our rooms in our home. From navy blue all over to burgundy in my husbands office. The bold / deep colours can be softened with lighter tones and textures or even complimented and made more moody with pattern and texture. Again Pinterest / a mood board will give you a clear visual which helped us out a lot x

For the couch in the snug I would do the pink couch but in the herring bone pattern like your couch now, keeps it calm but fun

I painted my skirting and the back of my door dark in the lounge and left the walls an off white with a dark wooden floor. Love a colour on the skirting!

Omg absolute yes to your idea of the more muted pink with the brighter one for skirting etc. I would never have considered it but I'm going to store that idea for my next property!

So glad you went for the cosy space option instead of a proper dining table, which is hardly used only if more than 3 people come in! So a chilling space is a wiser option! You can always set up a table in an open space when needed! Also, so glad you're picking some colours over white! Good luck on the work!❤

Maybe the bedroom in the medium green color you like and paint the celing in that lighter green color? If you make the guest room/your sisters room that pink color, I think having a bed skirt around the bottom of the bed would be pretty and seems like a girly sister type feature and can be changed out or removed if you have different guest. A pretty, not to big, but comfortable chair in the corner of the pretty pink room too. If there is room, two next to winsow with small table in middle. Those too can be made to have different slip covers that can be changed, pull off zip in back, depending on the different guest such as with slipper chairs. The fitted nicely tailored ones, not the tuck in types.

I actually like your current bedroom green! I find it very cozy and calming. I think with some paintings on the wall, it would complement the green quite well, or some wall lights. And you don't need to paint the whole room the same colour , you can just do an accent wall.
I love it too! I think for the long-run though, I just prefer something a little lighter! thank you for the ideas!
This series is so exciting for me.. I was torn between travel and buying and i chose travel so living my house vibes through you hahaha!
Paint large sections (not just a little swatch) on different walls within the room so you can see the colors on the wall with various lights/during the day/shadows, etc. I quickly learned how different they look and it helped me with picking the right colors for my house.

How about just a feature green wall in your bedroom? You still get the green but you've got the option to use a lighter colour with it.

I love that salmon color. I almost painted my bed room that color but it felt a bit too intense for the size of the room so I wound up painting the walls a creamy white and the ceiling pink/salmon and I love it! That's always an option you could consider!

I’ve just had my house renovation and my kitchen has the exact same kinda layout as yours and it has that space where your having a snug too. We basically had a sofa where you thought to put one then a circle table in the middle of that place with four chairs and then a tv on the wall opposite like you said! It works for my family but I think it really depends on how you personally want to use that space :) loving the house videos so far.

I am so excited for you and love your house vlogs. I would deffo put a super long bench all the way under your windows in the wardrobe room....even ig they are really low it would be perfect for a clothing room and you could still put shoes under there even make it as "cupboard benches".😍

That part with the two walls could you not put a black frame sliding doors? Or just normal opening. With those squares in it I can’t remember what it is called lol. Love that!
I love a hallway to hang my coat, I don’t like just walking into a home. I love the colours you have especially the lighter Green, I would deffo get a pink sofa but a like soft pink one 😃 can’t wait to see your new home all complete and cozy ❤️

I like having separate rooms too! I had a house once where I would walk into to the living area from the front door and I felt very exposed. If a delivery person is at the door I don't like them to see into my house!

I have just done a black bedroom, all walls and ceiling and absolutely love it! My friend has done all her skirting and doors in a colour and it looks amazing! Looks so different and really adds a nice pop of colour to the room x

I like doing a statement wall in a bold color. In the 1960s my gran did opposite walls paint and the other two walls wallpapered. Her bedroom was plum/olive/cream striped wallpaper on two walls and corresponding floral on the other two . You live with it a bit and then change it if you aren't feeling it.

I would swap the sofa and the TV over in the snug. There is slightly more room on the TV side. I think as you come into the kitchen from the front of the house it will draw your eye to the sofa sticking out than the wonderful space you have created. I think having a natural flow all the way through to the garden maybe better. Also, the pink sofa would look amazing.

When my parents built our house they did something that I've always thought was genius, they used the same color wood for all of our coving and door and it just make our house feel like a home instead of just a bunch of connected rooms. I can't wait to see what you decide to do tho!!

Emily I would also paint everything white, then when you move in you can see where the light hits each room, and maybe just do one feature wall, to make it softer. You will be glad as the light changes in every aspect of each room which you really won’t see until you move in. Very exciting process.👍

Love the house related videos even tho you make me think about house stuff like the colours that I'd always thought it would be so easy to choose and now I'm very considered 😂 Here's an idea tho, if you like a dark colour or you want to change the one solid colour in a room aesthetic, try painting one accent wall something fun & keep the others neutral. For example, behind your bed, put whatever green you want and paint the other walls your white choice this way you have your colour and you can play with coloured furniture 😇
House related things are so addictive isn't it!! So many people have said this, thank you so much!!
I'm a big fan of painting in threes. By that I mean, paint the walls in two different colours; an accent wall, or all the walls that face one way one colour and the walls that face the other way a different colours, then accent with a third colour. Accent being big soft furnishings like a sofa, a bed.Then all accessories compliment all the colours combined such as vases, cushions, clocks, wall art etc.

Emily it looks fab! Only thing I would say (because we have the same situation) is that with the roof light on the top floor, ours is “self cleaning” and it absolutely isn’t! It’s also 2 floors high so even if it did turn inside out we can’t reach it. Unfortunately for the 5 years we’ve lived here no window cleaner has said they can do it as they can’t reach it!!
My advice would be to see if anyone else on the road has a similar roof light and ask them as the “self cleaning” doesn’t seem to work and is one of the things that annoys me most about the house seeing the dirt on that window xox
You might want a lighter pink on the walls we did light gray in our place.

I would say moodboards, put the colors and the materials together see how it feels, ask for help, also watch decor, and AD episodes to find inspiration and how to do things I would say

In your dressing room, inbetween the windows you should have wardrobe full of shelf’s for bags etc so when you walk in they’re the first thing to notice and then two seat benches under the window which then attach into more wardrobes
Love your style, would you not get an interior designer to help you choose your colours and fabrics. I did and it helps so so much

And paint looks different in different seasons in my opinion so it can be tricky. Do neutral now and then live there for a bit and decide. I think the same goes for where to put TV, sofa etc. You may change your mind about where things work best once you've been in for a while.
Hmmm yes it's such a tricky one! The wall stickers are super helpful to try out on different places in the room!

I've made major mistakes picking paint colors for my home. It's going to cost a ton to redo it but if you do any pink make sure you choose the lightest colour of paint! I have two rooms that literally make me feel sick to my stomach because of the colour of pink I chose. I've got to change the colours completely. The paint samples were beautiful but when the complete rooms were finished, Oh Yuk! I just wanted to jump on here a minute and tell you my paint experience. Hugs from the USA!

have you looked at the farrow and ball colour fan? it has a huge variety of all colours and lets you mix and match!

I have the shade pudding by lick in my bathroom/kitchen/living room. I hate anything with a yellow tone, it has a really subtle pink undertone and goes so well with green and blue. Matched with farrow and ball (railings) on skirting boards and door. Then I can’t remember the green but my panelling in my bathroom is a green tone with pudding on the rest of the wall and ceiling.

Paint is the easiest thing to change. I painted my whole house then the next week painted it something completely different and I have no regrets. Be bold and have fun with the paint. It can be easily changed if you find that you change your mind or it looks different than what you initially thought it would. ❤
This is what my mum keeps saying to me! I deffo need to just make some decisions, stick with them and it’s really not the end of the world if I don’t vibe w it!

I’d go for a heritage pink colour, Pastel pinks have a habit of looking very coral/salmon pink when painting a whole room this happened in my daughters room

Love, love, love but I would suggest switching your snug around and putting the tv on the other wall. Your sofa will fit better on the other side of the room. You can also see the tv from the kitchen when your cooking and want to watch a tutorial or look at the photos!

Your house will look fab, You seem to have that design eye. Could go for pink sofa with light blue paint or mustard sofa with blue/slate paint. The latter would be real cosy

We have green in our bedroom and I love it. It’s Salamander by Benjamin Moore (American company/brand). It’s a dark greeney/blue and it makes it so cozy and looks “rich”

Ok, older girl advice here. Think about how you’d like to decorate the room when selecting paint colors and sofa colors. You mentioned displaying dishes in your kitchen. Do you already have those dishes? Maybe pick a color from the dishes and do your sofa in that color for the snug so it ties in since all of that would be in the same visual line. Does that make sense? Also, are you doing any wallpaper accents in the house? That would also inform your paint choices. So excited for you and can’t wait to see the finished product!

I used Lick Green 03, and hated it 🥲 it was super blue on the wall and looked like something you should have in a primary school. Definitely go for a muddy under-toned green, rather than a blue under-toned green as it will just look so blue on the wall and not in a good way.. 🤣

My mom rented a house and my room was bright yellow. I recommend no bright colors in the bedroom it made it very hard to sleep. My room stayed bright even at night with the lights off. Light warm colors for the bedroom.
I've been told this before too!! definitely calming colours for the bedrooms!

I would definitely choose a lighter colour! The lighter the colour the more welcoming… don’t make the mistake and paint too dark

I wouldnt put the lights on those small walls, would look nicer on the wall behind the sofa. Also you've wanted a snug for so long and you'll always wonder so I think while you're young just do it! Would be great to have with friends coming over

Nice as the idea of a pink sofa is, I think you would eventually get bored with it. I would go for a richer , warm velvet sofa in a Deep Green or Midnight Blue , they go with so many colours and give off a cosy vibe . You could then change accessories like cushions or throws according to your mood or the season without the major expense of reupholstered. Cream is nice but a bit bland and hell to keep clean . I am sure whichever colour scheme you go with will be one you can live with in the long term. Good luck on making your mind up.

@Emily Canham Vlogs tell me about it. I am having to live with a brown leather sofa my daughter bought for me. Its the most uncomfortable thing ever and I hate it so much I never sit on it. I can't get rid of it though because she would be offended. What wouldn't I give for a lovely squishy sofa I can curl up on !
