Well, that was one hell of an introduction.
Took the wind right out of Dylan's already low sails.
They should tell this idiot Blayne to keep his crazy theories out of the reviews.
@@kristiankrastanov5995 I agree.
He clearly wasn't paying attention to it when he was 'listening' to the album before reviewing it; anyone that states "he's simultaneously being overly-wordy, while saying nothing at all" in regards to his vocal performance, hasn't been paying attention.
That was utterly disingenuous, and already dislike his facehole after my first viewing of this channels' content.
Boy I somehow find myself back on this video and all of the negative comments have mysteriously disappeared.
The ironic part is that the lyrics of The furnaces of palingenesia are literally a parody of fascist regimes..
..and comparing DSO to Jordan Peterson is another delicious journalistic shot in the dark. He should stick to the Metalheads quiz, basically.
The lyrics of Deathspell are well written.
Toooo well written for some people to digest, apparently...
Wow, this got real really fast 😂
NMetal25 Lol 😂 I actually stopped chewing my food during the rant.
@@AuntieTrichome My butthole petrified and I resumed breathing afterwards
Lmao le alt right Jordan Peterson too what a fucking loser
I mean, he accused the ENTIRE band for being nazis, but the reality is that only Mikko Aspa has been proven to be a real racist piece of shit. Deathspell Omega has said before that Aspa's politics and ideologies directly oppose that of the rest of the band. The rest of the band hate how he thinks, but they still use him for his vocals.
What should be criticized is why have Aspa do vocals for the band, not whether the band is a nazi band (because they're not).
@Toilet Gangster Completely agree. I hate people who preach about musician's morals or politics and use it as a way to shame people. It's about the art, not the artist. You can express how you much you are uncomfortable or put off by what the artists might do, but don't shame other people for enjoying the music.
The fucking Inquisition hat is the icing on top of this cringe
The music of Deathspell Omega had already far surpassed the opinions of this benign review.
Ngl death spell omega is pretty good
"I don't know whats going on With other guys In a band." That pretty much sums up everything you know about this band. Mikko Aspa is not even a official member of Deathspell Omega.
@@oopsieipoopsied8041 He didn't write the lyrics or have anything to do with the concept. The "other members" are French and the actual band, not him, who is Finnish and just paid to sing for them. If you want to criticize this, say, "hey, why you giving that creep money to sing on your album?" That's the only honest criticism here.
You can't show Batushka's album in the thumbnail and not talk about it! Graahhhh!!
Their live show is THE most boring shit I've ever seen. They light candles, and play like 4 songs. OOH, DARK!!!!!

Even if he did, who cares? Blayne is a hypocrite who is okay with antiChristian stuff in metal, but antiJewish is off limits?
@@Austin-iv2gl and anti Muslim cough cough
@@Austin-iv2gl Very double standared guy indeed, Do you expect black metal (or anything suscribed under a satanist philosophy) to be respectful? If there's something related to such agendas in an orthodox way should be both nihilism and pedophilia, is out of context to be offended by their lyrics.
@Heavy Load I get what you’re coming from, but let’s be real, would Blayne be fine with a musician advocating for mass genocide of Christians like the Deathspell Omega guy does/did? He didn’t just say he didn’t like the religion himself, he legit advocated for Hitler. As far as I know, no black metal bands ever attempted mass genocide on Christians and other than a few odd ones out, none most likely would have either. Church burnings are fucked, but not as fucked as mass genocide. Anyway, my point is that there’s a big fucking difference between a musician speaking out against a religion itself and a musician advocating mass genocide.

I do beg to differ: the lyrics on Deathspell Omega's The Furnaces of Palingenesia ARE well-written. Calling it "overly wordy while saying absolutely nothing" is a tired trope of a criticism that, although it could be used to properly lambast a crazed, supercilious professor such as Jordan Peterson, instead does more to make you appear lazy, politically/historically unconcerned, unread and thus suffering from a poor lexicon/conceptual capacity. It seems to be from this disposition of yours, combined with a reasonable disgust for Mikko Aspa, and a less reasonable suspicion (or blind presumption) that as the vocalist of the band, he must also be the lyricist or engineer of the concepts layed out on this or any other of their other albums, that you deem this work of art so unworthy. Human to human, if I may bestow a suggestion: you ought not let the affiliations of one spoil and infect your regard of related others. Collaborations, particularly in politics but also in art, aren't always (and actually rarely are) founded and based on the pristine grounds of total agreement in all ways on all issues of life, philosophy, ethics, etc. Such sacrifices are what the treaties that end wars are made of, and give birth to brilliant works of art like The Furnaces of Palingenesia.
Well written man. Blayne is narrow minded on that topic and should deeply dig into that topic if he wants to talk about it, or simply shut up.
What an obnoxious amount of words to say "wah funny man no like my favorite band"

Why is antiChristian metal okay but not antiJewish?
Exactly.
Your question made me think and I did some quick research. Here's what I found: Identifying Jewish is not comparable to identifying Christian or Muslim. Judaism is an ethnic religion, strongly related to the nationhood of the Jews. Christianity, Islam and Buddhism for example are universal religions not limited in ethnic or national scope. So anti-Christian music is technically targeting one's religion or beliefs, while anti-Jewish music ALSO targets one's ethnicity, which makes it ... racist. It goes beyond the mockery of one's belief in a fairytale and labels the believer, the PERSON, as unworthy. That's the difference.
@@AlexanderDecommere finally someone with some brains in this thread of black metal cry babies..
@@AlexanderDecommere Except Judiasm is made to believe it's an ethnic religion. There's no such thing and it's a farce. If you can convert, it's not an ethnicity/race. If you target Judiasm, you target everything about it just as you would Christianity or Islam. Don't be so fucking stupid. Being a Jew is NOT a race and never will be. All religion and its followers deserve to be criticised.
Zak Johnson I agree with your last sentence only. Everything else is just your opinion and you don't come off as an expert on the subject.
Aside from Mikko Aspa being a creepy, creepy dude-and I'm shocked people haven't been aware of this a lot longer; there are interviews going back over a decade of him saying intensely sketchy shit-going by a recent interview with the guys in Deathspell Omega who actually write most of their material, calling them Nazis would be wildly inaccurate. If anything, the album is basically just one extended, highly sarcastic dunk on totalitarian thinking, in which light the lyrics are actually pretty interesting. That said, the angle they're coming from is pretty fucking out there, so I don't expect it to be everyone's cup of tea, nor do I take issue with people not wanting to support the band based on Aspa's... antics.
(For the record, a whole branch of my father's family was exterminated in the Holocaust, so I don't say this lightly.)
And even if they where Nazis I don even care, I just care about the quality of the music, if it's good inlestin to it even if it was made by a los of shit killer (like Dissection) and if it's bad I would never listen to if even if it was made by Anna Frank.
Ms666slayer Ehhhhhh, I've gotta say it's more complicated for me than that, because a person's beliefs and attitudes can and will colour their art to some degree, for better or worse. The reason why people admit to being influenced by early Burzum yet sort of tiptoe around Absurd is that the former's lyrics by and large reflected the least objectionable aspects of his beliefs ("I am sad and I like the woods") where the latter's were much more overtly dodgy. Or, to give a more mainstream example: Who the fuck actually wants to listen to R. Kelly's "I Admit" even if they adore his early work? Sure, other questions of quality factor into it, but to me, shitty lyrics and themes are absolutely a quality issue.
@@ConvincingPeople really well said!
@@Austin-iv2gl even my friend christian didn't got offended by that

If you actually read any of the lyrics in deathspell omega, they take a shit on authoritarian views, the other band members also don't support NS ideology, Deathspell Omega have never written a single NS song, you're making a bunch of assumptions about the band, there was even a recent interview with the band. If a band bothers you that bad, don't review it to begin with. All you did was help them sell records by giving them publicity. The vocalist also has no say in what kind of material gets produced in Deathspell Omega.
Did DSO hurt your feelings???
I loved Sam's documentary but so far from what I've seen on this channel he's hired some of the most ill-informed reviewers I've ever seen. Between this and the chick that couldn't pronounce a single Batushka album its laughable.
I've been saying this for years. Their hipster antifa fanbase just tell me I'm an elitist.
Right, like if you're going to take your job seriously and review things at least know what you're talking about lol. The french core of the band literally refers to the studio musicians as the "second circle" and readily admits that if they put them together in the same room they'd probably fight. They don't care about their views just what they sound like on their album.

Yes!!!! Waste of Space Orchestra is my favourite release for this year. I knew Blayne would dig it.
There is no checking a new black metal band without the all time classic Google search "Band Name NSBM".
Edit: Always interested in seeing the balance in the comment section between normal dudes and nazi snowflakes.
Technically that's a misuse of the term NSBM-a black metal band can be racist fuckwits and not make music in that particular style, which is actually fairly specific (and not very good as a rule even if you can somehow ignore the Nazism)-but I see your point. I do think it's way more complicated with respect to DSO specifically, but still, this scene can be a bit of a minefield of stupid and disturbing bullshit.
It seems to get more a 50/50 split each month that goes by. Personally im on the napalm death side of this fence, and im baffled how a 'fuck your authority' music like metal seems to be attracting a strong authoritarian sympathising crowd. Dillinger were wrong, irony is a very much alive scene...
matthew godding Because black metal is an extremely emotive, intuitive form of music which appeals to people who might have some really serious internal struggles going on but have nowhere to put their anger. So they project their own self-hatred onto external targets because they need a kind of emotional scapegoat. I say this because I know what it's like to struggle with depression and the kind of rage it can inspire and how tempting it can be to beat up on other people and say, "They're the problem," as a way of making it hurt less. It's not really so much political incoherence as it is psychodrama. This doesn't describe all reactionary extreme musicians by any means, but I think it describes a lot of them, especially in genres like this.

Strongly disagree with Blayne about the new DSO record. Music is of course going to be different for each individual, but trashing the band before discussing the material just sheds light that he has a strong bias against Mikko.. What I (as a German) always wanted to know: do you guys (who don't speak any German) understand the lyrics and the messages behind all these Rammstein songs? Fvneral fvkk - carnal confessions is my favorit album of the year and one that all doom metal fans should give a listen
Great start to the video guys, jesus!
Reise, Reise is pronounced like the English word "rise" with "uh" at the end. "Rise-uh, rise-uh." It means "journey".
Ist more like an "-eh" at the end. Otherwise correct.
moatze 666 “eh” in North America rhymes with “say” because it’s the accepted spelling of a common non-lexical word used here. You use it like “Nice weather, eh?” it means “isn’t it?” So if I wrote that it’s pronounced “rise-eh” they might think it’s pronounced “rise-say”. I know what you are saying, though. Spelling in phonetics is a nuanced game.
@@billytrespassers3123 I know, and still think even "ey" is closer than "-uh" to the real sound ;)
