I remember a few years ago I tried archbang when crunchbang closed shop and in the install you had 2 language options: English and "American". I asked around and it turned out the dev was British and it was just a joke. A pretty good one too IMO.
I think this is a great project, the developers must have had a lot of fun doing this. personally i would not even think of doing this but, how fast they managed to get this running since win 11 was released. This must be a lot of work in a small amount of time, hopefully next time they can use what they learnt etc to create something thats more practical and epic. Nice work done in the distro, very impressed. thanks for reviewing.
i see this is the same windowsfx OS. i guess Microsoft already cracked down on them. i can, however, see a real world application for this. it would be pretty good to help windows users transition to linux or if you have an SMB you could get away with setting up Windows-like machines without spending money on a windows license.
I think the main reason for people not to switch to Linux is the fact that there are too many distributions and most users are just annoyed by the large choice. Having a lot to choose from can be great but when is too much it can fireback actually. Basically, for every piece of crap there is a Linux distribution along with the learning curve for many people. I wish there were less distros and instead just different desktops or things within the ecosystem so everyone can use/install what they really need and not have to google for days to figure out what the right distro is. I think that and ease of use is what Linux definitely needs to learn from OSX and Windows.
This makes sense for workstations for companies who want to save money and have windows users for employees. And who dont want viruses and a more secure network.
This represents one of my biggest pet peeves of linux in that people will spend an unusual amount of time to make something "different", not better. Not to mention spending a lot of time to make a distro look like something else. It seems like they have some talent on the team to make what they did, why not avoid the potential lawsuits and make a beautiful distro that is unique. I would be surprised if there is huge audience of people that really "Love" windows 11 look, but don't want to run it.
they probably learnt a lot of new things by doing this project, I think this is probably just a pet project for a group of software engeneers, hpoefully the next thing they bring out if they do will be more practical, this is very imperssive. -sm
Reminds me of Lindows... who was sued and changed their name to Linspire. They mainly only had it available if you paid them when they started, and took a long time to have a free version. Somehow this junk still lives on in Freespire
So they basically wrote UI shells just to redirect you to the Plasma settings? I mean, I can see this being a perfect (and kinda hilarious) scambaiting tool, but not much else.
This is standard Ubuntu installator. Swap can be placed in the file. I'm using laptop with 16GB RAM and since year at least I didn't got to memory limit, so I don't have swap file.
The only thing that is really going to be a bit like windows on linux with be the steam OS 3 probably, Arch based windows compatible goodness IMO, will take a few years for everything to smooth out I am sure. Yet out of the box it should still be SUPER VASTLY superior to their failed OS2
It might be interesting to throw some windows programs on. I wonder if a lot of the work on this disto might lie in some epic wine configs pre done for you.
i think the true magic of this unfolds if you try to open windows software, like some .exe files downloaded from the web :) i think this startet actually as a joke, but it indeed could fulfill a nice purpose with providing a win like environment for older computer users, you know, people that are used to windows, but would struggle learning a complete new system, so it's nice to have something like this arround, but yea, i agree, they should figure out the logo usage stuff not to run into wild law suits
I don't know, they never really say what goes away after the 30 days. The "Pro" features are all built into the desktop from what they say, so if they pulled it out you wouldn't even be able to set a theme.
I ran this for 2 months a year and half ago. It was called WindowsFX /LinuxFX and had nothing to do with 10 or 11 and there was no Pro stuff it was just one thing and had two names all over the install and it ran all the Windows stuff in wine that was all preset... This is 2 years old. the website looks nothing like it use to either... It was not half bad, I just got tired of the scarry Windows look... Lol thanks for the video! LLAP
On one side this is great - Windows users would not be lost in the system. But on "the right side" - you don't change your system to get what you had before, right? And one more thing: using Debian clone you quite fast run into dependency hell. BTW: In Windows there is also online verison - you don't expect to get free MS Office with system. Trail version is the best what you get on clean Windows for free.
It is not weird. It is specifically been bade to look like Windows. For whatever reason. If it exists and even its paid version exists, there are clients for that. :)
soy is just almost as trash as eating of the carcasses/corpses...we are other than buzzards or ghouls...yet the bs food guide pyramid would have you beLIEve otherwise of coarse! RIPE FRESH FRUIT is totally the FUEL your brain operates on...fructose IS WHOLE FOOD SUGAR & = LIFE, white sugar just like soy and meat = death!
@@opopopop6286 I suppose by white sugar you mean glucose (1)(2), of which there is none either in soy (as a matter of fact soy is demonstrated to have a very positive effect on diabetes) or in meat although meat contains very little carbohydrates which your body will transform into glucose (unless you eat liver, the liver contains about half the total amount of carbohydrates contained inside the body of a mammal). I find it worrying that you have such strong opinions about things you apparently understand so badly. Specially if you are a vegan you should really make an effort to learn more about food to learn avoiding deficiencies like b-12 vitamin (for which you should probably take a supplement) and omega 3 fatty acids (found in things like walnuts or flax and chia seeds) (1) - fun fact: so called "brown sugar" is glucose too just like "white sugar", as it is unrefined sugar from the sugar cane, meaning glucose with some vegetal debris in it. And fructose is also white, and a sugar. So opposing fructose to "wite sugar" makes no sense. (2) - other fun fact: glucose is literally what brings oxygen to your brain and glucose deficiency is shown to slow brain activity while hindering self-control and decision-making. I'd choose it if it were spelt Murica
Distro for Linus Sebastian of Ltt. He should repeat his Linux challenge with this.
This distro not only violates Microsoft copyright, I believe it violates the Ubuntu repository license as well.
This is essentially just 'piss off everybody 100% speedrun'
not just copyright but also microsoft's trademark
Good
@@yelmazbaloch6157 not really as it gives microsoft amunnition to shut the project down
Just seeing the Windows logo gives me PTSD. Someone needs to read the definition of FOSS. You might as well buy a Windows key for that price.
this just gives me the vibe of an infected windows computer

In France "American" is considered at least a dialect. You can find books that say "translated from the American" on the cover.
This is funny. We (the community) have to pick one solid distro to promote to new users. Not this ricing of kde.
OK i did use it and still have the ISO on a flash-drive .. it did kinda help me switch to Linux and KDE but now i am using Solus 4.3

Smart status is for hard disks. It can probably do not work in VM, since VM disks do not support smart by defualt.
so many distros like this, makes me wonder if it's just so easy to do this that people can just put these out so often
