FLAVOR! That's why you use salt 🧂 water 💧! It makes all the difference! So I went out today and got two bugs today with melted butter and garlic 😋 ooo yumm! Thanks for this week's video 📹! Until next week, Aloha from the Big Island 🏝 of Hawaii 🏝
I grew up in NY, but we lived in Boston for 2 years and spent a lot of time in Maine enjoying Maine Lobsters. There is nothing like it.Hoping to get started building my cat this year, and plan to retire and hit the seas in 3 years. See you in Asia!
Great video, highlighting one of our favorite destinations. The Asticou gardens are definitely worth seeing if you guys ever go back. I'm glad you enjoyed your time in Maine.
Justina and I visited Acadia and Mt Desert Island last year and were just blown away with it. It's like a story book forest... You have to pinch yourself to see if it's real. To explore that place by boat is on my bucket list.
We’re so glad you had the opportunity to visit Acadia and Mt. Desert! We also visited by car but arriving by boat and spending a bit of time was quite special.
I'm a Maine lobsterman (and sailor). Seawater is used in order to keep fresh water from pulling flavor out of the lobster during cooking. If you don't have seawater, add a bottle of beer to the 1 inch of water in the pot. I steam them for exactly 12 minutes.
Really loved this. Beautiful places and of of course amazing lobster! Very jealous. The prose was thought provoking and poignant. Once again I enjoyed how good your story telling has become. Thank you.
Thanks so much Graham! We hope to inspire you to visit this beautiful place someday. We’re glad you enjoyed the prose. I wasn’t sure how it would be received.
Trust me.. When you guys were eating the lobsters, I was wishing to be there... Why can't I time-travel / just jump directly on to your boat... Drooling... Hehehehe...
Great Video Kristin and thank you very much for sharing that lovely and Tasty area, Best wishes from the other end of the world, south of Chile... a small tip, try to keep the camera a little bit further away from your face
Thank you for watching our videos and for your comments. Kristin is filming herself holding the camera in her hands and the distance is dictated by the length of her arm, it is a Sony ZV1 and one of the common observations by other vloggers is that the lens is not wide enough, we have 3 options, put the camera on a stick but it is rather heavy, rest the camera on a tripod while filming, but you loose the movement and the experience of walking with the subject. Third option is to buy another camera. I had suggested surgery to make her arm longer 😂😂 but she doesn’t want to go for it Thank you for following our channel
Jajaja, I did hear the same comment before, well just keep showing us those beautiful places and if someday you sail in to this direction let me know, most welcone
Salt water has a different boiling point than pure water. Salt water has a higher boiling point so the steam might be a higher temp. Seeing as how I’m in the middle of the prairies this means a trip to red lobster after watching this👍🙂
Google says steaming allows the meat to be removed easier , takes a little less time and can be more precisely timed, as you said your self in the video. salt water to maintain the ocean flavor. Beautiful Forest hike. Fair Winds 😎
We love lobster. But I always cringe a bit when I see people steam them while still alive. It just seems like a bad way to go. Does it take anything away from the dish if you split the head with a knife just before you steam them?
Agree! We froze them a bit the first time but we have been splitting the head since for the reasons you mentioned. Thanks for watching and for your comments
Here in Scotland, my local wholesaler flies in live crayfish from Maine, but they are not cheap,,! can you tell us how much those three were as be great to know the cost of high life over there!
At the boat they are about $10 a pound or 16.2£ per kilogram. Those bugs were about 1 and 1/2 pounds in weight (0.68 kg) or 11£ each. I am sure that the wholesale price is less but we feel that it was very inexpensive for such wonderful lobsters. Thanks for watching our videos and for following our channel
Great video :) What a beautiful place! I'm going to go with salt water raises the boiling point of water allowing for hotter steam. I would guess you would get a bit of salt spray as well. Just a guess :) Safe travels to Annapolis :) f
Spot on!!! Facts checked and correct! Salt water boils with less energy and higher temperature. Thanks for watching our videos and for your comments. 💪
That lobster looked absolutely delicious , was the third for Yoda ? She looked like she wanted some 🤣 I appreciate your comment about enjoying nature privately , It makes it seem unspoilt 😃 Thanks for sharing 😃🥂
😂😂 Good catch! We actually cooked the lobster with some that same lobsterman brought by the boat the day before we went to the dock and bought them. But in the video we wanted it to look like we went to the dock first. We’re glad you enjoyed the video Dave. Thanks for watching!!
@@HarborsUnknown that Illustrates that these guys have to go a little farther to make a living. Reminds you of the Pacific Islanders bringing their fish by the cruiser boats to help make ends meet. So, enjoying Maine lobster as a public service. Cool

Yes.. You both have blue eyes... Both have the same way of explaining things... God bless you both... Loads of love from India.. I enjoyed this Ep a lot..
I suppose it’s a good policy not to take the females. In the US if you find a female with a notched tail it means she’s been found with eggs before and you’re supposed to put her back. If there’s no notch they’re legal to take as long as it’s the correct size and of course no eggs.
Great video, turn your audio narration down* just a click or two as you have a great softer loud voice! I know my opinion is nothing but just a thought! Keep the great work up!
Yes I agree, we did freeze them, but killing them would have been more humane. We have been doing that after the first time. Thanks for your comment and for watching our videos. Here is an interesting article which helped us to decide how to dispatch the bugs in the future lobsteranywhere.com/seafood-savvy/how-to-kill-lobster/
toooooo busy and gentrified now. mega rich building on every avail inch. MDI lost control about 20 years ago when they let cruise ship in and social media spotlight turned on. I went to school at MDIHS, grew up there and we crushed it 30 years ago. A bygone era it is. Now its just annoying to get around
I am sure it must must have been beautiful beyond describable and we envy you a little bit because you had the chance to experience it in its original state. Despite the commercialization we loved it and are thankful that we got to see it. Thanks for watching our videos!! 😊😊
Oh Yum... thanks gr8 Video Guys... plus a cleaned puter screen this end nom nom nom

I think that the reason for salt in the water is it causes the water to boil at a higher temperature

Salt or any other impurity will cause water to boil at a higher temperature.

What breed of dog is Yoda?
Yoda is a French Bulldog. She’s a bit taller and thinner than most. We call her our super model. 🤩
