Game is just timeless
The title is clickbait actually. the Phrozen Keep modding forums looked into it and it doesnt work in the original game. the bug was likely introduced in d2r by the d2r devs. Apparently Cooooley was made aware of this so hopefully he adjusts the title of the video like he said he would.
And after 20 years they will patch it out because some youtuber made a video about it. :D :D

Game is not timeless at all. You simply don't have any competition to what Diablo 2 offers, you are sucked in by the dark Gothic style and itemization + runes system that you don't find in any other ARPG otherwise you wouldn't be saying that. If Blizzcucks had a brain they would have added a randomly generated endgame map system that utilizes the game current assets to create maps, low effort and much better than a terror zone and then truly this game would be timeless

Original D2 LoD was one of those games that I can look at, have pleasant memories of both as a child and adult, and shed a tear for those friends who signed off one day not knowing that session would be the last time we ever spoke.
It's truly a masterpiece of a game full send.
It really is sad and yeah, I have only kept in touch with one of many friends I made on LoD since playing for the first time all the way back in 2004.
Now I'm sad thinking of all the people I used to play with.

According to the Phrozen Keep community of modders (who know the code in-and-out) this does NOT work in the original game and is actually a d2r specific bug introduced in d2r.

hey coooley, just wanted to let u know, this bug works with any per level mod if the character is high enough level and only exists in d2r. lod is the same as d2r until you actually sell the item and it sells for the unequipped price anyway. this bug existed in old versions of LOD but got patched. d2r unpatched it unintentionally prob cuz controller support

@KabertaKneeGr0wCxntman just a heads up a mid level cheap gold find setup on a barb will get you at bare minimum the same amount of gold farming trav, and will be much more fun to play. Plus you can find other items while getting the gold. If you have a barb i highly suggest it over the buying/selling item

Testing in LOD, this doesn't seem to work. Visually it displays a higher price, but selling using the vendor sell button still only gives you the price it lists when it's in the inventory. They must have broken something in D2R related to this to make it work there, but not in LOD.
Yeah I tried this in LoD and it did the same for me. Showed me a higher sell value but when sold I didn’t get the gold it displayed.
@@RyanJ_24 D2R uses server side selling and identification. It has a "wait" popup for the server
LOD did it client side, allowing hax etc to see what unid items were. They must have a fix in client for that selling items but never did it on the server
Do this in Act 2, sell to Fara after completing radament quest. That gave me 2k more profit margin per sell with Atma's discount vs other acts.
But in ACT2 you cannot stack as much gold (on the floor) as you can do in ACT1

Yo! That’s sick! Sadly not usable in speedruns due to the rng of the affix on an exceptional item, and the stats required. Also, the benefit of sell back goes up based on your character level and in speedruns we’re low level ;)
Oh man Cooley. This was one of the first regressions I tested when D2R released because they only ever patched it on the server side, and might not be brought forward on the rerelease. Imagine my joy when it worked. Some forum searches back then revealed I wasn't the only one to realize it though.
I'm a little sad this got out because it was both fun and mostly useless.

I cant get any items in hell on char lvl 85 to roll any none norm items. Over 3 hours of shopping now. All are normal items. Most of this time I was using act 2 for rerolling shop.
Any info will help greatly as I need a fast way for junk ammy's and circlets for my ultra budget build challenge.
"Cinuqe Deas". 5 fingers. That's what that item is called. It's a type of italian knife popular durring the 15th and 16 centuries.
Which makes it funny that it's basically doing the five-finger discount with a Cinquedeas.
I say leave it in, it's a way for normal/casual players (the ones not using bots) to actually make a fast profit if they want, and not rely on RMT or grinding for hours for runes and mediocre uniques. It's a scam as old as time, you buy something on discount and then you return it because you were "dissatisfied" for the full price, it worked when there was no barcodes. Maybe they could patch it so that you have to go to another vendor in another act to sell it for profit. That would make it more realistic :P

Console Users: Ignore the part about Legacy graphics. It only converts the graphics, and not the menus on console. But it’s not needed anyway, because there are no icons to buy or sell, you simply hold down the buttons, and it works the same.

As the owner of a hard core ladder barb with 2300 gold find .. i tried it and it works .. but it is definately TEDIOUS! .. back to horking for me .. Don't forget Gheeds and Edge .

The devs are too busy with d4 to care about a non profitable epic game of all time. Gold has no value, you can’t buy gold but you can by a horse that’s valued higher then all of statecraft 2 players.

I think it just got patched (sort of). They still sell for more when equipped but the price on grinding prefix from vendor is a lot. Last night it was 800-5k gold today im seeing 33k+

Only depends on if you do see the 'Sell' button from the vendor's panel. If not then only PC.

@@robbyyates5406it actually does work on console, I don’t know what the button on PlayStation or switch is but if you hold the x button on Xbox it’ll sell the item directly from your hand to the vendor
It works on console as well, since you have a dedicated sell button.
I don't know if others have posted yet, but the Fool's prefix does this as well. I did a little testing (with a Grinding War Sword) and was able to get about 1.5 million gold in ten minutes (I tested for two minutes and extrapolated. If you count hand fatigue, it would probably be closer to 1.25 million.)
i think it's the "based on character level" part that causes this glitch.
Ya I have same results. It is definitely due to the per a lvl items. Wear you shopping at ? I can only find normal items and not Exceptional. I'm mostly doing act 2 hell with a lvl 85 char.
Sad to report: this does not work in LOD v1.14D - the higher sell value is displayed, but the amount of gold paid is less than orig purchase price.

Last year's Xmas event was a ton of fun but I do feel it took some years off my life staying up gambling for that many hours 😆 I probably slept for 16 hours straight afterwards.

just tested it in PD2 with fools mod. It showed that buy cost is 5k and sell cost from character is 10k but only gave the 3k inventory cost so in PD2 it is already fixed
Anyone who is gambling using this method is wasting so much time and resources, it's insane. The only reason Coooley does this is because he macros/cheats when offline, and spends money on gear/forum gold anyway so none of this actually matters one bit.

Not sure but I usually find them in Hell difficulty from the vendors. Grinding Stiletto is ideal. The most important thing is getting a Gheed's charm and reaching level 89 to maximize the output

So, this super doesn't matter, but I always find it fun to learn the real pronunciation of item names I always butchered as a kid...
Cinquedea is pronounced roughly like "chin-kway-DEE-uh".
C's in Italian are tricky little buggers. I don't speak Italian...but I *do* sell wine for a living. If there's a "Ch", make it a hard "K" sound (i.e. Chianti = KEY-on-tee. To Italians, it's closer to two syllables often. KYAN-tee). If there's just a "C", make a "ch" sound. (i.e. ciabatta sounds like "Chah-BAT-tuh).
Having trouble? Remember it's Italian, so it has a sing-song cadence. When in doubt, fingers out 🤌🤌. No, seriously. It helps. 😂

Well, now you should have a pretty good idea of how to say Cinque Terre: the stunningly beautiful Ligurian coastal city known for its gorgeous pastel colors that would make a Pixar film roll its eyes. Lol. I used to say, "Sin-KAY-dee-uh" before making this video. But only because I was anticipating a speech enthusiast such as yourself to correct that (obviously wrong) pronunciation, I googled 3 different sources that claim "sink-dee-uh" is the correct way. I tried! :P
Additionally though, the "Ch" sound from foreign languages in place simple "c" usually is if the C is followed by "ia". Such as "Cianchette" (Chin-KET).
This might also be possible without legacy graphics. You can sell equipped items from controller UI by long pressing X
Now that the cat is out of the bag, it should be patched out. The alternative is screwing the economy of some of the most interesting items in the game.

lol.. I thoutght the same . But found out fool's mod works the same. it terns out it is actual any item that has a per a lvl affix's on it.
Definitely keep it as most rare and magic items are nearly imposbuil to get without gamboling.
back in the day with the hell on earth mod, this was the case but i have no ideal it's work on regular lod too. oh my sweet young mind believe it's was the way the mod work to make life easier than vanila LOD.....

Cinquedas - 15912 profit; Stiletto 20187 profit, Zweihander 20792 profit (14% price reduction] .. Look for these items, which costs around 10-15k but sell for 35k (MAX value) .. Cinquedas is good but not that good
Stiletto is hands down the best. It also takes up the least amount of space for keeping.
I still prefer Zweihander. Maybe you heve better rolled Stilleto, because my has another mod, which changes the final price. When selling Zweihander to Charsi, its 23009 profit / sale. @@petergriffinson1907

So i havnt finished but im gonna lose my mind if its this. Im assuming based on the glance i got im thinking any item that has the "based on character level" will sell for more the higher level you are because it reads it as having a very high stat while equip where as when its in the inventory its only displaying said stat as if its on a level 1 character. Thats my guess now il finish watching to see if its right lol
The reason it works is because damage makes a significant difference in sell price, enough to exceed the buy price when equipped.
While other clvl mods will affect sell price, they don't have enough impact to exceed buy price like Grinding and Fool's do.
The Sell button is a huge convenience for playing one-handed 😏 I wonder if this glitch or... easter egg as called in the video, was the reason for the button's disappearance from new UI.

They knew about it back in lod but had no way to fix it from my understanding due to the way vendors calculate item value, so when D2R dropped they changed the interface to remove the button as a fix. but because we can switch back it still exists.
Keep it in. Maybe people will shop more. Seems these days everyone uses runewords and the rares that everyone uses to have to hunt for to even get a decent character to play is all but a distant memory. Very sad to see actually

It's actually super broken because you don't even have to play the game and magic find to find GG items. You just need to be a certain character level and then you can use this exploit to gamble for GG circlets and trade them for multiple high runes depending on what stats roll on it.

So in theory this means that if you are doing the LOD holy grail and you find a unique Sacred Armor from a TC87 and it's Templar's Might, you could clear all TC87's in the game and if you don't get another Sacred Armor (which would guaranteed be Tyreals' Might), you could use this infinite gold glitch to stay in the same game and gamble Sacred Armors over and over again until you got a unique one.

are you saying that if you get one sacred armor, you are guaranteed not to get that same unique sacred armor again in the same game?
@korzeTV Unless things have changed, the lore dictates this is how drops work.
So, for instance, NM Andy has the highest drop chance for an soj, so it's smart to create a game and search everywhere else for unique rings, the more you find, the better and when you've found as much as you can, finish with Andy.
Of course with this gold glitch, it seems like you could just go straight to gambling since it's straight rings each purchase. I think it works the same way that you won't get twenty raven frosts. You should get one of each.

Wouldn't it just be better to go straight to gambling? The monsters can drop tons of items, but you can just keep buying sacred armor from the shop.
Of course the time spent getting the gold might take longer than clearing a few areas, not sure which would be more efficient.
@@CondensedComments I haven't been in the holy grail life for years (3 items remain, all single player solo self found), but rvrh buying 1 unique sacred armor takes an eternity. However I've found 4 Templar's Might's, and in each of those games I could have cut down half the gambling time with this glitch and been done with Tyraels. I tried once though. No luck. Ran out of gold. If only I knew this existed...

So, I play LOD with the PlugY mod. This trick doesn't work, at least repetitively. You see, when I sell back, it shows the higher price as I'm holding the weapon in the weapon slot. However, after I hit sell and select yes, it only gives me the price if it were in my inventory. However, in messing around, trying to get it to work, I noticed that I get the full price if her (Charsi)'s inventory is full. I wen and got another item, sure enough, the trick did not work again, but again filling her inventory it did work. Unfortunately, this means that it cannot be done, unless there is a way to trick her inventory being full. That seems to have something to do with it. Everyone on RUclips is showcasing this on Resurrected, but there are mentions of this back in LOD, I think. Going to try and figure this out.
The fact there isn't chances for monsters to drop 30k piles, is weird. Talk ab a cool little feature that would help out early on.
Oh whats this.... clearing a group of monsters that were otherwise just pass-by's becomes usefull, and it's literally 2 changes in-game code.
To answer the question "what would you like the devs to do"
My answer would not be about gold but man can they finaly get rid of the bugs that they pretend they fixed but obviously it's hilarious like crazy interactions with Ancients that can 1 shot anything by surprise with XY conditions met which we don't really know... mana leech of monsters that is "suposed" to be fix but a lil ghost still wreck you thousand mana in 1 hit... well... this game really need some deep love
How do people feel about this as an exploit? I've used it a bit online, I'm going to do a SSF playthrough now and I'm not sure if I will take advantage of it or not. Not sure if it would "cheapen" my playthrough lol.

Provided gold already had no value anyway and they don't seem to be planning anything to fix it anytime soon, might as well make it more convenient to obtain tbh. If they ever plan on giving gold a real value again they should definitely patch this out in that patch, but until then the only thing this does is make sure people also have easy access to gold if they aren't a barbarian.

Keep it. People who don’t wanna “cheat” won’t. And, on top of that, gambling legendary things is such a crap shoot anyway that it’s not going to change a whole lot of people’s minds and how they play. They might do it for a while but they’ll get bored then go back to playing like normal.
