Man maybe I have a setting wrong somewhere. I’ll have to spend some time comparing different settings to see what the culprit was. Right now with eye AF off it’s pretty good.
R5c that’s the camera to beat with the new battery lpe6p and firmware 1.0.9.1 released a couple days ago it’s crazy how canon made us wait 2 years to make this camera excellent
@ I thought is was a gimmick coming from all the other RUclipsrs saying you will get double the battery life Josh satin tested and it had better results than the R5 mark 2 I bought 2 batteries and I don’t even bring my old ones anymore it’s that better ! Crazy I just don’t understand how canon didn’t think of it earlier! But I’m happy that the did
@@mrdamiansinghthat’s good to know. I’ve been debating a second R5 II or a R5c. The R5c can be found for around $3k here in the US which is a great deal.
Great review and after owning the C80 for a week now, I can honestly say that I am VERY pleased with its performance. I also own the C70. I was lucky to be able to add the hybrid VCM trio (24, 35, and 50) to my kit and without a doubt the idea behind these lenses totally makes sense - same character profile, beautiful colors, ultra sharp and fast focusing capabilities (compared to the C70), same weight and size, which makes switching between the lenses on a gimbal a total breeze! I highly recommend the C80 and any of the hybrid VCM lenses. Cheers from San Francisco and happy holidays!
Thanks for video! Surprisingly similar c80 and R52, at least the color difference could be matched. For example in R52 under log menu settings, one can adjust the hue to green, I do that with my R5. Blonds are easy to render the skins well but when people get older red veins come visible I would imagine c80/70 would be a clean start without much color correction. Still surprised how close R52 is to the c70/80 cameras. Great video and beautiful shots!
@ that’s a good point, it could have contributed. I didn’t consider that when testing. I used the NiSi true color ND though which in my experience is one of the more neutral NDs.
@@JamesReader My main question is does the crop mode fix the R5II soft 4K60 issue...?? (some Sony cameras go from binning to full sensor readout when switching into 1.5 crop mode)
Nice comparison James, if you could only keep one of the three which would it be? I feel the C80 is more future proof albeit less filmic, and I’ll get the rumoured R6 mark III for stills/b-cam…
Cheers Johnny! Ah man that's tough. I'd have to keep the R5 II just for it's photo capabilities but would be gutted to see the other two go. Which would you keep? I'm guessing the C70?
Thanks for the raw RAW videos. Honestly, it turns out that the video from R5 is five times heavier? Such files are very difficult for my system to handle. I would prefer files from the C80. And I still don't quite understand. I processed the files the same way, but for some reason the R5 has a bright circle in the center. Can someone tell me what I did wrong?
No problem! Yeah the R5 II is a bit more intensive to edit on my system too. Do are you seeing the circle only in the RAW footage? Or the regular 4k too?
As a C70 owner I will stay on it. Full frame option kind a nice but even F1.8 lenses I stay on F2.8. Blur background most of the base not helps telling a story. And yes C70 softer but DGI sensor fantastic. Compare R5C (I also own) sorry but no way... C70 hands down more practical and do the works much better.
Really hard to let go of the C70! Yeah I personally never really shoot below 2.8 in video anyway. Only really talking heads do I use a faster aperture. The R5C looks great but unfortunate about the battery life
@@JamesReader I keep the R5C in indoor shootings, there hard to see the difference compere to C70. But outdoor shootings C70 is a killer. My favorite lens for now 2RF 4-105mm F2.8( super nice render on highlights) but like to try Rf 24mm f1.4 on C70.
Hi James, since you talked about the built quality I had to send back my C80 because the thumb wheel was flimsy and wiggly. Did you experienced this sort of behavior on yours? For reference what I'm talking about please take a look at this demo. Though its in german should be self explanatory. ruclips.net/video/aNKK5496ayE/видео.html
Crazy your experience with the AF. The AF is on freaking point on my c400!! Great video!

I agree with you about the focusing system pulsing, as I’ve noticed that as well. I’ll definitely turn off the eye focus and give that a go. Thanks!
Yeah give that a try and see if it helps!

Thanks so much for watching, really glad you like the C80. What do you think of the 24mm 1.4 VCM?? I'm desperate to try that out

Yeah they are very close! I definitely like both and should be more than easy to match. Really appreciate the kind words.

I can’t wait to see that 70-200 shoot out video 😉
Haha - very well spotted!
in the first clip in the comparison. was that taken with the 35mm RF f1.8? loved the video btw
Thanks man! Yeah it was the RF 35mm stepped down to 2.8
Well done review. What about overheating at 4K ?
Thank you! No overheating thanks to a built in fan 👍
Great video as usual. You said the crop mode in the R5II looks great, what were the settings you were using? 4k50 or something else?
Thank you! Just activated the “movie crop” mode!
@@JamesReader and which resolution / format setting was used?

This kind of highlights how powerful the R5II is as a hybrid camera.

Didnt see any c80 footage on youtube yet with at very least micropulsing.
