    Thanks for the honest review. The most important thing on a fixed lens camera is the lens. I used the x100 for 5 yrs and upgraded to the x100v and was utterly disappointed with lens or better said lack of lens improvement. The m6 seems to suffer the same issues. Really is bad from Fuji. Have been curious of the battery life on the m6. Bigger sensor. Ibis, AI features, more processing power and yet the same battery... The XS20 and XT5 came with more powerful batteries and even those drain relatively fast. Again thans for your honesty

    Yep, the pre-order was fulfilled, I went from the X100F, so it was quite a jump, but I prefer the slimmer and lighter weight of the 4.
    I won't sell it but turn it into a black-and-white biased camera. The VI programmed a Kodachrome 64 recipe along with the Reala Ace. These are my favourites, plus some great B&W recipes like Classic Monochrome. Gripe; long processing.

    You really hit it on the nail exactly with this list. Sums up my feelings about the camera perfectly!
    I find it makes me want to grab the nikon zf over this, but it's bigger so doesn't cover exactly the same use cases. The x100vi is meant to supercede my phone camera since it's more fun to shoot with.
    Hopefully firmware updates will improve the situation.

    I had an X100 and it was fun to shoot with but ultimately the fixed focal length was too limiting. I prefer my Em1 which allows me to switch to whatever compact lens I like.

    Thanks for great video. I agree mostly with everything, but I do not think that they could add screen that is tilt-able vertically without adding depth to the camera. For me, screen that tilts only horizontally is much more usable than screens on Canon cameras since you have to put them on the left of the camera if you want to put camera down. Then it becomes much more difficult to hold. Also, buffer clearing time is due to use of UHS-1 SD card interface, not the 3x faster UHS-2.

    • @JamesReader
      @JamesReader  8 месяцев назад

      Fair point regarding the screen, I'm glad they didn't add a flip screen but would of liked to have seen a screen similar to the XT3

    I ordered mine on 2nd March, 3 months ago and receive regular emails from Wex of no indication of delivery yet. I’m considering buying a used 100V to cover the UK summer months or even cancelling the VI and buying a Nikon Zf. I already have Nikon Z lenses for my Nikon Z7, a camera I adore.

    Enjoyed this video. "If" Fuji turned your Cons to Pros, seems like we might be looking at a $2200-$2500 (just a guess) camera. That's a big jump in price, but the higher price would be supported by big jumps in improvements.. Considering what Leica has done with their Q2 and is doing with their Q3-$6299, an improved version of the X100VI in the price range mentioned earlier, would still be a solid value to some. Plus, it might help tone down the demand a bit which could possibly lead to shorter wait times. :)

    I've got a X100VI and I also have the locking up issue - it's been so bad that I've sent it back to be sorted out. Not normal, I think. Like yours, mine is a very early example and I think there may have been production teething problems. I'll see when it comes back. It also, very strangely, doubles the shutter count when shooting in RAW + HEIC mode. So all is not well with it.

    • @JamesReader

      @@JamesReader Have you seen that Fujifilm issued a major software update for the X100VI today - you should try that to see if it fixes things. FYI, my camera has been looked at by the retailer and sent on to Fujifilm UK for repairs - so at least they agreed it was an issue.

    Thank you for your review. When you say one of the best travel cameras, what other alternatives we have? Leica is in a different price range. Panasonic Lumix S9 with a decent lens stops being compact at all. What other choices for street photography do we have?

      @JamesReader  6 месяцев назад +1

      Personally I’ve used the Canon R8 with the 28mm pancake or nifty fifty lens a lot. Fujifilm XE4 with the 28mm lens is also a decent option. I hope we see more reasonably priced compact options soon.

    Fujifilm had this great X-E4 camera for street and general photography. Unfortunately they discontinued it. To me X100Vi is a bit gimmicky. I would never buy it. I'd rather get the X-T5 with a couple of fast lenses instead. Thanks for another great video.

      I was considering the same decision but an XT5 with a pair of good primes is more like £2.5+k.
      The X100VI is very light and with a filter weather resistant. The optical VF is excellent.
      Not quite sure on lens sharpness comments as other owners who have tested it have found it highly resolving.
      I mainly shoot high end Canon DSLRs. My 5D mk3 and 24-105L weight multiple times the VI albeit with more versatility. I’m on a few plane trips where the carry on weight limit is 5kg. The Canon uses about 1/3 of that allowance and I need to get my iPad Pro in there too.
      The Fuji is great as a fun travel camera partnered with an iPhone 15 pro max in your pocket. It’s also far more discrete (in black) than SLRs.

      Unfortunately the next thing coming in a smaller(ish) body with the updated sensor is the successor to the X-T30 II (probably the X-T50). I think anyone who can’t get their hands on a X100vi should gravitate towards that

    I fail to understand people who say that they are cancelling back-orders after watching a YT video. To me that signals that they didn't know why they wanted a particular camera and therefore should not be buying it until sure about their requirements.

    • @kenl2527
      @kenl2527 8 месяцев назад +1

      The camera itself is good, but when it’s selling for 1800€ here and you have to wait for half a year, you do need to rethink about it. The lens seems to also not be enough for the new 40MP sensor.

      A long wait time is different from those who watch a YT video and then decide it isn't for them based on, say, the specification.
      Didn't they know what they were spending all that money on?
      As for the lens, I don't tend to believe the non-scientific results from a bunch of YT influencers repeating the same claim that they got from another influencer who made the claim.

      @@JackBurton-qp4hc a lot of people got attracted to X100VI cuz of the hype from social media or internet, some probably have not even figured out if the 35mm focal is the right focal lens for them.
      Higher mega pixels affects low light performance, had my hands on 100V and 100VI from a friend, at least for me, barely any difference.

    • @JackBurton-qp4hc

      Indeed, it is why I tend to recommend that new users get a cheap second-hand camera and zoom until the figure out what they want to shoot.
      Higher MP doesn't affect low light performance, that is a myth. Resize the VI image down to that of the V then compare them. Now upscale a V image to that of the VI and it'll be a mess. I'll take the advantage of higher MP and resize down if necessary. There is a lot of nonsense about noise online and there always has been.

    • @JamesReader
      @JamesReader  8 месяцев назад +2

      I definitely wouldn’t want anyone to cancel their pre orders based on this video. The X100 is all about experience and convenience and not the specs. I’m not sure if you’re including me in your comment about influencers, but my findings here really are my own and I shared all my results in another video through downloadable RAW files.

  • @miam1074
    @miam1074 8 месяцев назад

    I owned the F but hated the AF so sold it. Did not want to get the V, but really wanted the VI to be a much improved version of what this camera was and could be. not sure why nobody else is honest when it comes to the cons, for example the failures when it comes to the AF. To me, it sounds like the same frustrating outcomes and hit-rate I had with the F... I so want to have a small, capable camera (no, the GRIII does not work for me for many reasons) that I can keep in my bag every day...
    The shop owner told me that they get about 3 cameras a month,... so based on my preorder number, I have 5-6 months to think about it.... Which makes me think about rushed production in china....and having even less confidence that it will work out.

    I agree. The most complete and honest review. Cheers mate.
    One question. Is the old lens really holding it back?
    The X100V vs X100VI pixel zoom comparison is shocking honestly. I think if I can get the XT5 at the same price and a good lens, that would be far superior. Is the difference in image quality and details really that noticeable between the XT5 and X100VI? I have been trying to reach to a conclusion myself since i like the size and built in ND, I do think the old lens might be an issue considering i can get an XT5 with accessories and lens to last longer? I am also looking at the TT 27mm lens for starters as I am getting it dirt cheap here, whereas the fuji 27mm is very expensive here.
    Can you share your views on it?

    • @JamesReader
      @JamesReader  8 месяцев назад

      Thank you! I don’t think the difference between the X100VI and the XT5 is huge but it is noticeable (with the 27mm) but the XT5 does have access to some amazing prime lenses. Personally if I was in your shoes I would go the route of the XT5 but at the same time the X100VI really is a unique camera, if image quality isn’t your absolute top priority you will have a ton of fun with the X100

    I think it’s all to easy to criticise Fuji for not adding an extra button, more adjustable screen, improved lens etc. Realise that they are making the camera to a no doubt expensive and well researched worldwide customer market for an everyday walkabout camera within a particular price point. They have no doubt excelled at this. I never heard anyone complaining about their phone camera not having a fold out screen!

    The 23 F/2 sucks to be honest and I wish they used the 18 F/1.4. As for the 27, not sold on that one either, its depth of field is way too large for a lot of photography and the low light is problematic as well.

    In all honesty, I think they announced this camera way too soon. They must have known that it would sell gangbusters, so they could have waited with the announcement until they had produced a bigger stock. But no, they went the Apple “hype is good-if you disagree you're wrong” route…
