Thanks for this video. We watched this before visiting Nara and it was really useful, We loved seeing the Deer roam freely and be able to feed them from with the biscuits. They were so cute in real life.
@@lazyhusband Plenty of things. Like the video said, Todai-ji Temple, Kofukuji Temple, Nara Deer Park, and Kasuga Taisha are pretty amazing and I definitely recommend them. I have not been to Isuien Garden, but it looks really nice and I might see it next time I go. There's also a museum not far from the park but I haven't been. Another place I recommend is the Mochiidono shopping street in downtown Nara. It has a lot of cool vintage shops. I went to a really cool smaller shrine called the Himuro Shrine that has big blocks of ice that are offerings for the ice god. As for food, there is a lot of good street food and ice cream in and around Nara Park. There's also a mochi shop called Nakatanidou that isn't far from the shopping street. I also went to a really good yakiniku restaurant near there called Yukiya near the Mochiidono street.
i visited nara back in 2017 , i stayed the night over as my trip allowed me too. i sat near the deer park at like 8pm at night, enjoying some nice icecream while patting deer that were wandering around at night. so cute
Reminds me of my journey to Japan in 2017. We have been on a small side trip to Nara, we haven't seen everything on the list, but it was a really nice place. Todaiji Temple and the deer made it a really unique and unforgettable experience.
Although it is a little far from Nara City, I recommend visiting Horyuji Temple as well. oldest wooden building in the world.and it's a beautiful temple
I know this video was made a long time ago, but thank you for mentioning Isuien Garden. I just went today and it was one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen and no one was there so it was so peaceful
Todaiji temple in Nara is the most beautiful/impressive temple in Japan. It depends on your itinerary if you can include it. Kyoto in itself has a lot to see.
I really need to return to visit Isuien. I really loved Japanese gardens. Last we visited Nara a lovely man from the Nara Guide Club showed us around which was fantastic. Watching the mochi pounding was also a highlight as was making origami deer 🦌 at the Information centre ℹ️. A great place to visit.
I'm really enjoyed my last visit to Nara last October, it's was really fun to be able to feed & interact with the deer at the park, 3 of 5 places mentioned in this video that I visited was Nara Park, Kofukuji temple & Nara national museum, for the central golden hall I wasn't able to visit because of contractions. Definitely will come again to Japan in future.
So, if I have a JR pass, will it cover travel from Kyoto to Nara, on JR Nata station ? Also, do I need to pay to enter Todaijii temple? How close can I go without ticket ? just to take some photos
The JR Pass covers the trip from Kyoto to JR Nara Station (more info here: www.japan-guide.com/e/e4107.html ) As for Todaiji, the entrance costs 600 yen, and we 100% recommend to pay the fee and visit it. If you do not wish to pay the entrance fee you can get some pictures of the temple exterior from far away and through a large gate (with the view often blocked by people).
I'm considering add a visit to Nara on my way between Kyoto and Tokyo. Approximately how much time would you say one could expect to spend at these different locations?
That sounds like a great idea, you won't regret it. We recommend spending a full day in Nara. If you want some ideas for an itinerary, we have a suggested route on our website: www.japan-guide.com/e/e4119_nara_full.html Hope this helps!

Start at Kintetsu-Nara station and walk south down Higashimuki Shopping Street. When you reach Sanjodori, grab some mocha at Nakatanidou and either continue south or work your way back up Konishi Sakura Dori. Or go east a few hundred metres and eat by the lake.
I just realized if there are so many deers in Nara park then there must be poop which is unusual considering the fact that Japan is an extremely hygienic country Wonder if they're exceptionally trained?
yeah, youre right, there is poop everywhere in Nara park, when I visited Nara park last year, its hard to avoid from step on the poop, so i end up on the bench at the side of park just to clear poop on my footwear. So you need to careful when walking around park
Pudin@Ichigo woh! That was unexpected As I’ve seen unbelievably clean places throughout Japan I thought Nara Park was no different but it’s such a large park so Atleast some areas like the Hanami spots could be clean, no?
@@kbyvillepika3741 it's not too obvious or smelly too bad, but if you walking around the park, you can see the poop on the ground and for a certain area there's little bit of poop & quite smelly, but not too obvious you know. Maybe for hanami spot they do cleaning more frequently I guess since I not there in spring but in early autumn.
Haha, putting anything above meeting the deer in Nara is really weird. No way that temple is a better experience than the deer, unless you're obsessed with temples and/or afraid of deer.
Exactly. Visiting 3-4 temples and 2 castles you basically seen them all. Except maybe a few special ones. Walking among deer is what you never experience anywhere else. On Itsukushima if you walk alone to the other side of an island, it's feels sketchy with hundreds of deer watching you.
Don’t get bitten by deers is first thing I thought of. If you buy deer crackers GIVE IT TO THEM! No ohh I want to feed the little ones. You’ll know what I mean. Don’t forget NOT to feed them papers and maps. They eat it if you don’t watch out.
I have been to Nara several times. The deer there are cute and not afraid of humans. They bow like Japanese do. Nostalgic !
Thanks for this video. We watched this before visiting Nara and it was really useful, We loved seeing the Deer roam freely and be able to feed them from with the biscuits. They were so cute in real life.
Glad to hear the video was useful for your Nara trip and that you had a nice time there!
Excellent. I love the style that the name of attraction remains displayed
I've been to Nara three times, and I absolutely love it. It's my favorite place in Japan and I hope to come back someday.
