    • @Steve-uf2vp
      @Steve-uf2vp 10 месяцев назад +159

      Don't quote me on this because it's been awhile but I remember reading some article that explained that. From what I remember it was that the original script that two different scenes that explained the drugs but both ended up not being filmed due to time restraints during filming.
      Basically Peter found them in her apartment when he started looking for something to sedate her with after he saw that she was possessed. The other scene showed she had the drugs because she was having intense headaches and crazy nightmares and that she got the drugs from Lewis who had bought them because he was having the same problems (alluding to how they both were already being mentally attacked by Gozer).
      Again, it's been a long time since I read about that and I forget where I read it but I'm pretty sure that's how it was described.

      Winston may not get as much screen time as the other Ghostbusters, but he still serves two important roles to the team. First, he's the only non-scientist on the team so he gives a kind of "every man" perspective on things.

    If memory serves, the original idea for the team was Egon was the brilliant science guy, Ray was the brilliant idea guy, Winston was the brilliant engineer that could actually build what Egon and Ray dreamed up, and Peter was the charismatic one.
    Check Ernie Hudson's commentary on his involvement. The script he was given had Winston on the team from the start, but the studios felt the movie needed as much Bill Murray as possible to be a success, so Winston's role was drastically cut back to focus on Peter more. And I think Hudson didn't know his role was diminished till he got on set.

Naturally they wanted to call the cartoon “Ghostbusters” but couldn’t because of the 1986 cartoon called “Ghostbusters”, so they called it “The Real Ghostbusters”. I like how the original screenwriters for this movie were Dan Aykroyd (a Canadian) and Harold Ramis, yet for the Pitch Meeting its just one Canadian guy. It's almost like everything has come full circle back to Canada.
    I remember the Behind the Scenes video on Netflix about this movie and the amount of changes they had to make due to there being an animated TV show already on called Ghost Busters. There was a copyright court battle right up to the initial filming of whether they would be able to use the name in the movie, which is why on the Blu Ray there are some alternate takes of them doing the TV advert with the Ghost Blasters name IIRC (it has been a while) and even some of the casting was almost last minute, like Ernie Hudson just after they had started filming a few scenes. Considering how many problems they had behind the scenes, I am amazed that we have a coherent final movie.

    I was 15 when this came out, and a lot of other teens/kids were in the theater. When Murray said, "Don't worry Ray, everyone has three mortgages these days." the entire audience groaned in pain. (This was just after Paul Volcker crushed inflation, driving interest rates sky-high.)

    • @eddievanhouten
      @eddievanhouten 10 месяцев назад +9

      Yes, this is what I think the movie is actually about. During these days some people thought: Just go to the bank. The rates are so high it doesn’t matter if I fail with my business because I will be poor either way. But because the rates are so high I can charge whatever I want for my service. The Ghostbusters charged the Hotel guy 3k from what I remember. Or was it 5k? That’s like 30k today. The movie is basically an economic metaphor.

      Not really; they just made a lot of movies that weren't really analyzed, much less for their political messaging... because nobody cared about anybody that didn't agree with their political messaging anyway. It was a simpler, stupider, time when a lot of things that made money were given a critical pass just because they made money. Not that a lot of great movies weren't made in any given decade but, as usual, the "classics" are often misidentified.

      Movies that are still popular and Hollywood still milking them.
      Do you know a movie or TV show from before 1980 that is still popular? First Star Wars is technically 70's, and there's Star Trek and Doctor Who. That's all I have, but I could be missing some.
      I think 80's was the peak of movies, and the 90's was for TV shows.
      80's was when VCR got popular, which allowed repeated watching of movies, which greatly increased their influence on pop culture. And technology got good enough for realistic visual effects (I think Star Wars was the first). And the industry got mature enough to know how to tell good stories on screen, but not yet got corrupted by money.
      90's was the time for TV shows because VCR got ubiquitous, so viewers could be expected to watch every episode, which allowed more complex storytelling. But eventually they too got corrupted by money.
      Plus the internet and especially social media started to compete for people's attention.
      Plus with streaming services you can binge watch the whole show, which is good for instant gratification, but nowhere near as deep experience as watching one episode per week and discussing it with friends who watched it at the same time.
      Sorry, started out as a simple answer, but I fell into a deep rabbit hole. 😂
