  • Up until fairly recently, you may not have associated Toyota with performance cars, at least not in the last two decades. But seemingly overnight, Toyota has transformed into a brand offering some of the most exciting cars available on the market today.
    A quartet of driver-focused cars is now available on the South African market, in the form of the GR Yaris, GR Corolla, GR 86 and GR Supra, the last of which is now available with a manual transmission.
    This is a bold move from Toyota this really could be one of the last manual, rear-wheel-drive sportscars ever made. And along with the new 'box, they've significantly bumped the power up too.
    Our video journalist, Ciro De Siena, was particularly excited to get his hands on this updated Supra and, for his Christmas and birthday present, we shut down a mountain pass for the day to film this review.
    Is the manual Supra a swing or a miss from Toyota? We'd love to hear what you think in the comments below.

Thank you Ciro and the team for making this review possible! I've asked alot and you guys delivered an exceptional review from the drone shots and the drive itself. When I was watching this review, it gave me goosebumps because I really love and want to own this car one day and I'm working hard everyday to own this car. So, let's get this straight. The Toyota Supra uses a BMW sourced 6 cyl engine, whilst the Lotus Emira uses a Toyota sourced V6 engine. What's up with this cross-pollination? My point is, why don't Toyota use their own engine? They clearly have an existing winner.

      Inline 6 vs V6 they want to keep I6 heritage , not to mention that the V6 is out of a camry . Yes its powerful etc and can be modified but the original intent of the engine was not for use in their halo sports car but rather a eco comfort car. Toyota would not be pleased with that final product.

    I think toyota should never have had bmw built that excuse for a supra. The supra is such an iconic car and yet they didnt bother to R&D a new spec.
    In my opinion, they could of used the old 2jz and made it compliant with the current emisson stamdards and still made crazy power as what they are known for.
    They have manufacturers like lexus who built the lfa and the RC models. Why not let them develop a true toyota supra instead of a glorified Z4. They have the means. Atleast the GR Yaris and GR Corolla shows what they can still build without going to another manufacturer.

    • @BiscuitsnTea
      @BiscuitsnTea 9 месяцев назад

      With the manual as it has just landed you just have to deal with the price which I think is worth it as the manual spec will definitely hold value and be a future classic. That being said if you dont mind or rather prefer the Auto there are lots of low mile used examples with motorplan going for high R800k . That is way more bang fot buck than the M2 . Don't see how when this wouldn't do much of anything to them,whilst the mk4 was yanked out of markets before the end of its production cause it couldn't sell well in certain countries that lost them more money than they did with the mk5. Even the lfa would out do both for how much of a loss that was for them.

    • @mindfreeze0838
      @mindfreeze0838 9 месяцев назад

      @@carboydorifutoparty3976I honestly think Toyota operates in silos. The engineers dont talk to the regional distributors hence why this car could be made for the clout but still be pulled from markets due to lack of sales.

      @carboydorifutoparty3976 9 месяцев назад

      @@mindfreeze0838 that logic could easily be applied for the F cars or the LC. RCF barely sells and has been dropping since it 1st came out and they killed off the GSF for that exact reason and the LC isn't any better off no matter where u put it. Mk5 has been pretty decent and is now falling off now since they haven't brought over anymore in sometime now that there's yet to really be any new 2024 model mk5s rolling about in dealers yet. Even in the 86s case of its multiple issues,it's selling well on its end also even tho they dont make many of those just like the mk5. Clout wouldn't have gotten the car far if that were the case cause we'd have a mk5 that'd be sitting in the same position the Z is if that were the case for how much people ragged on it and then we saw the real results of the Z really show and saw the world quickly shifted back to liking the mk5 all over again even with all the disappointing decisions nissans been making with the Z as of late.
