  • WATCH Part 1 - • The History of Le Mans...
A decade, brimmed with innovation. Speed, more than ever before. Extreme fashion statements, new wave music, the first launch of the Space Shuttle and the continuing allure of Concord. A peak in arcade gaming, and the introduction of the GameBoy.
We had fire-breathing Group B rally cars and turbo-powered rocketships dominating Formula 1. And, amidst this golden era of motorsport, we had Le Mans prototypes with downforce, unfathomable acceleration, noise, flames and speed. Ridiculous speed. I am talking about the 1980’s.... I am talking, about Group C.
Join us on a journey through the '80s and '90s at Circuit De La Sarthe. Through the magic era of Group C racing and the initial domination of one German manufacturer, all the way through the late 90s and the short but sweet emergence of GT1.

I worked for Mazda in the US starting in 1988, I made 3 trips to Hiroshima in 1991 and on one of those trips I just happened to be at the plant on the day that they were bringing the 787b to it's new home in the museum at the Hiroshima factory. We watched as they unloaded the car, then were amazed at the sound as they fired it up to move it and give all of us gathered around a memory I know I'll never forget. The noise it made was glorious and it echoed through the roadways and bounced off of the buildings of the sprawling Mazda complex. I can't imagine what the neighbors thought. The roar was immense and filled every square inch of the property with the beautiful and brutal sound of that rotary engine. Wow. I can almost hear it now. How lucky was I to be there on that day...

I love Group C. My personal favorite was the Minolta Toyota 88c-v in GT4. I'm sad it never got a HD update. My No.2 is the Sauber C9.

Such awesome cars. I loved how you intertwined them with the sim racing world. I started with a Play Station and GT1. I watched so many races over the years and a chance to drive them in a video game was always welcome. Thanks for the content. I'm looking forward to the next one.

It’s amazing how far games have come in the same period of time! Old Gran Turismo games are still peak racing games for me. Always will be….
I’m glad you enjoyed the video, see you for the next one😊

You need to run your mic through a high pass filter. There's a lot of low frequency noise which will be audible for anyone with a big subwoofer

hey, if you guys ever do anything Le Mans on Assetto Corsa again, get Reboot Team's "SX Le Mans", which is a port from Forza Motorsport 7. It's the best version for AC.
