    I was assigned a mini mits while I worked for a golf course as a mechanic. 3-cyl motor, 4-sp stick( they had 4th blocked off as speed around curves could cause tip over?). The little truck was a beast, I drove it all over the place. It fit the golf course cart path like it was on the interstate, excellant farm, ranch utility vehicle or for running around rural areas. I'm cerrently rebuilding/remodeling an 05 31ft travel trailer, when finished the plan is to set it permantly in the ozark mountains. I'll probably be looking for one of the little trucks to use around the property and short jaunts into town for supplies. Plans are too pertty much disappear from society.. LOL....

    How gutless are the automatics? I can't imagine a 3 speed with ~45hp would be very fun

    Thanks for another great review. I'm really interested in the Carry 4WD auto trans version. What kind of auto trans is it? CVT or fluid? Is the lack of a Lo on the auto trans really a problem for off road? It would be very informative if you could do an off road comparison of the 4WD manual with Hi-Lo and the 4WD auto in your next road test. Maybe even go into some mud? If both vehicles had the same tires it would be a fair comparison.
    Also how much total ground clearance is there with the additional 2 inch lift?
    Thanks again. Great reviews!

      Thanks! We have fun doing these videos for sure. These Auto transmissions are a standard automotive torque converter type. The biggest issue you will find off road is the lack of low gearing for sure. Especially loaded or with big hills. This issue is compounded by the bigger tires as well so thats where the low range comes in. So you just push the gas pedal harder right? Well that might work for a while but these transmissions don't have an external oil cooler (like your big 4x4 pickup would have) to keep the transmission cool. Engine coolant does run through the transmission to provide some cooling but it probably wouldn't be enough to cope with hard off road situations ie. getting stuck in the mud and working the the transmission hard to spin the tires.
      Good for around the yard/farm/job-site yes, Loading the box full of wood and trying to conquer the back woods? Don't think so... well not for long anyway before your transmission gave in.
      I would love to do some harder terrain tests with these trucks for sure but they are all for sale so we don't want to abuse them before we sell them. We have had many customers report back with what their trucks have and will go through and it is a lot! Once the weather warms up we will try our best to respectfully demonstrate the capabilities of these trucks for sure.

      So the Automatic transmission is worthless? The 4x4 on the auto doesn't do anything for off road use, like normal trails? Just asking because I was interested in one of these but after a shoulder surgery my days of shifting with my left arm is over. I have about 40 acres that is traveled with an F150 4x4 but mainly in 2X mode.

    • @4sonsoffroad
      @4sonsoffroad  7 лет назад

      +Shane Ackerman the issue with the autos is that they are only 3 speed (4 speed on some newer models)
      The 4x4 is the same as on the manuals however there is no low range on the auto and with only 3 gears it really struggles with power. Traction won't be a problem, hills will be.

      Now while these are much smaller Ronny Dahl did a comparison of 4wds automatic vs manual offroad. There are some places where an automatic is better offroad. Standard is more of a challenge and adds another fun component to it. Couldn't speak on these little trucks though.

    • @4sonsoffroad
      @4sonsoffroad  7 лет назад

      All things equal yes automatics are beneficial in some areas, these however are not comparable to each other as the auto is a pure high range city transmission while the Manual is a dual range utility transmission

      @4sonsoffroad  7 лет назад

      +Enthusiast2024 that's what they are in Japan. We routinely see them with 200,000+km
      Biggest problem is our roads as these trucks were not designed to be driven at highway speeds for sustained periods.

      Hi There, so the only info I have is "Suzuki ATF 2384K" out of the manual. We really don't do many autos if all so really don't have any first hand experience with them sorry.

      Four Sons Off-Road Inc. interesting. Thank you. Do you have a transport service available to Calgary? Are there lockers available in the aftermarket if I purchased one in auto?

      We ship anywhere to Canada. There are some basic limited slip kits in the aftermarket but that's about it.

      Four Sons Off-Road Inc. thank you, you’ve been very helpful. How hard are parts to get when they break? How much would one in auto in reasonable condition cost with shipping to Calgary? Ball park?

    • @4sonsoffroad
      @4sonsoffroad  5 лет назад +1

      @@Packinheat1175 Parts are very easy to find in Japan. Just takes time to get them here. Cost will really depend but I would say you would be $9000+ for a similar one in the video before upgrades.

    I've always adored these little trucks. I have been searching around google for any places in BC that sell them... seems like i will be traveling or flying to even test drive one. I haven had much luck on finding sellers... or even people who import them.
    But i am curious on how much insurance is on one of these. Here in BC insurance is... stupidly high.... even with a safe drivers discount.
    I am on the fence about finding one of these trucks with an Automatic or Manual transmission... Ive never driven stick before but wouldn't mind driving something like this as a first vehicle with a manual

    • @4sonsoffroad
      @4sonsoffroad  7 лет назад

      These are great little trucks. Insurance in Alberta and Saskatchewan doesn't seem to be too bad but I haven't heard from anyone in BC on that front. It would be easiest just to call your insurance company and ask for a quote. Then you will know for sure. Also just a note, some insurance companies are more sensitive about right hand drive vehicles than others so be sure to make a couple of calls.

    • @ngwd
      @ngwd 7 лет назад

      Yeah.
      The other thing im worried about is the maintenance, and replacing or repairing parts. I know it might be possible to find items/ parts that might be able to fit in.
      I did run into someone here who had a Diahatsu Hijet... he had to find parts for the suspension... he said it was hard finding "sister' parts. Ordering straight from japan would have cost nearly $700 for one axle

    • @4sonsoffroad
      @4sonsoffroad  7 лет назад

      These trucks require very little maintenance when compared to a side x side UTV. We order parts from Japan every week with no issues.
