Hey Hard! Great video, as always! Looking forward to the JR pass video. I'd like to add that while google maps will most likely be your go-to tool, Navitime Japan is complementary to it. Why? Because it has the one feature google maps could use (here's to hoping some googlers catch on), which is filtering by rail company. This way you can filter your route to use the JR pass more and get the most value out of it. Always be sure to DOUBLE CHECK the travel time though, as I have found that filtering a JR line can easily double a trip's time that would at most cost around $3 or $4 using a non-JR line. Cheers!
Thanks! Good point I will mention this in the JR Pass vidéo, but you're totally right about navitime. I've pinned your comment so others can see your great advice ! 😊

I want you to know how much I love your videos. My son and I visited Japan for the first time about 3 weeks ago. Keep in mind, this my first international trip ever! I watched all the videos you posted since Japan reopened to tourists. My biggest concern was the train system and thanks to your videos, we were successful in using the trains. I had such a great time, I'm coming back again next week! Thanks for all the wonderful tips! 😊
Soooo glad to hear that! This is the exact reason why I make these videos! Please let me know if you have anymore questions, and I would be happy to help you!
I can't thank you enough for these videos! I'm in the early stages of planning a Japan trip with a long-time friend and your videos have been some of the most helpful! I'm not too worried about language barriers since the friend I'm going with speaks fluent Japanese but everything else is a little intimidating, but you're simplifying them so much for me to understand them!
I am so glad I could help you out! Please continue to watch the channel as your trip gets closer and do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have more questions!
Osaka local here. 7:44 if you enter the country in Osaka and not Tokyo, you will not be landing at Osaka International Airport(ITM), but rather Kansai International Airport(KIX). The name is misleading, as ITM only has domestic flights. If you land in KIX, the Haruka express train will take you direct to Osaka station, while the Rapit express train will take you to Namba Station. Both train systems are very good options to access inner Osaka.
Definitely saved this video! When you mentioned getting cash, and always hitting the Japanese yen instead of USD I was always wondering if it suggested something. Not many creators went over this process when they said to pick the Yen over USD. So this was something that I've been looking to find out and you did it! Thank you Harb!~
Glad I could answer your question! Ya to go more on that piece, the companies that are in charge of those ATMs will charge you a small fee to exchange it to your currency too. This means you will most likely get a worse exchange rate AND get charged a little bit.
In regards to the first one, i got my documents approved within minutes. The screen went from pink to blue. That was the biggest sigh of relief heading into the trip and it safe to say that im officially excited for my trip later this month! CANNOT WAIT!!!
I am stuck at the part where I am travelling from India and have only taken 2 doses as the minimum requirement? Do I have to take the 3rd dose mandatory? I can't really proceed to submit the form without uploading 3rd dose information.. Can you please assist?
Im landing on march 9! I’m staying at narita hotel and taking a flight to Sapporo first next morning :) It’s convenient. - starts on north and travels down. Ending my trip in ueno 29 March and full bloom Sakura all over main Tokyo area ❤ - going to be a epic trip. Also many of your tips have helped so much. Thanks 🙏🏻
Nice itinerary. My wife and I have done this route many times on a 14-days JR Pass but we also go the other direction down to Kyushu since sakura starts there first and then make our way back to Tokyo for our "grand finale."
Thank you so much for your contribution!! It means so much to me you found this video so useful, and I hope I can continue to provide reliable videos for you!
Been here for 2 days. I went from Narita to Osaka after landing and I absolutely regret doing that. I should of just went to Tokyo, chilled there for 2 days then head out to Osaka lol but it's awesome here and I am using your videos for visiting Japan 🙂
Oh ya that's quite the trip to take in one day lol. I hope you're enjoying your time out here otherwise! I am glad my videos could be of some use to you and let me know how your trip goes!
The shipping your luggage you forgot to mention that the next day option isn't always available due to time when you ship and location. It can be 24 hours if you arrive in Japan early in the morning and can take up to 3 days if you arrive late in the evening. Same thing goes for if you're traveling from Tokyo to Osaka. It's not always the same day service.
Great last few episodes. Thanks for your recommendations. While most videos like this recommend the usual:food, anime and malls/parks, very few recommend activities like sports. Personally first thing I did while visiting was attend a baseball game and recently watched Yokohama F Marinos play Hiroshima. Just an idea. The break room was nice 👌
YEessssss! You are the man! The baseball games are definitely worth checking out! I love going to them! First one I am going to this year is April 7th!

Two questions! 1. Does Japan have any scammy ATM brands? (Such as Euronet ATMs in Europe that charge exorbitant rates/fees) or are they all pretty legitimate? 2. Are places like these pickup spots in the airport, and 7-11s in the airport open late? We land after supper time.
No scammy ATMs you'll be fine. Check a few of the major wifi companies (Japan wireless, ninja wifi, etc.) to see what their opening hours are until. Most of the time, you can have the wifi shipped right to your hotel.
Great video! We are planning our upcoming trip to Kyoto for Cherry Blossom. Any video on tips during Sakura season post covid? Is Uber available in Kyoto? Is credit card widely accepted? Including taxi? Thank you!
Thank you! Only tip I would offer you is to check out the Sakura during the weekday. Weekends will always be super busy. And there is no Uber here, just taxis. Hope that helps!
How about a video of how many things a tourist can pay for once there, with an IC card like Suica? I love mine on holiday and paid for nearly everything with it - loved no pockets of coins at end of holiday🎉
Just came back from Japan. Filling out visit Japan web is important but you can take a screen shot from your phone. All they want to see is the blue color on that screen.
Hey, awesome video! What would you recommend to do when you arrive at haneda Airport at 22:30 ( 10:30 PM ) try to take a Bus or Train or Stay in a hotel?
Thank you for the information. I am traveling to Japan on April for a one month. For the SIM card, which company you think is the best one? Thank you again
Great video! I have a question about IC/Suica cards - is it possible to just use google pay with a Yen card attached to it for wireless payments? Or just a debit card with Yen acc connected to it? Basically the same card that i will use at the ATM to pull out some yen in cash ;)
Sorry not the biggest tech expert on these pay accounts, so I can't really help ya there. I would just say have the cash on you and use the IC cards for the trains. They do have e-IC cards if you want to try those out!
Thanks for the video. Arriving to Tokyo on Saturday. Can I buy the Rail Pass there (airport, stations, etc.) without reservation? A bit confused as to whether or not pre booking is required. I have checked the official site but it seems that they only do delivery as I don't have time unfortunately as flying on Friday. Many thanks.
Why can't I just use my phone carrier which provides international service in Japan? I've never had to worry about getting SIM card in any other country I've visited. My phone has always worked perfectly!
Welcome Suica is really just a tourist gimmick. No difference except the design. I personally would recommend gettin a normal Suica. Is still a good souvenir and you can use it again when you return.
Lmao! Truueee. But if you follow some of these tips, you can get through all of it pretty quickly! Reserving things in advance and knowing alternate pick up locations is key!
Airbnb isn't too bad, but it won't save you too much money. I would say for just 1-2 people, airbnb and hotels will yield about the same results. If you start getting into bigger groups, then Airbnb will probably be better. Also, Wifi is great for groups, and sim is a little more convenient -- but only useful if you're by yourself.
Great video and very useful in my upcoming trip. I am worried about getting money after my arrival. I had heard that you shouldn't exchange money at the airport bc the exchange rate is awful, but I was curious about withdrawing from airport ATMs. Does anyone know if fees are higher at airport atms (or anything like that)?
My biggest worry is my card getting declined over seas x.x I'm going in 2 weeks, and I plan on telling my bank multiple times to please not freeze my card xD
Is it okay to just buy suica and not the jr pass? Or should you buy both? I dont really understand the train system in japan. I'll visit osaka-kyoto and out from tokyo. Its kinda overwhelming and complicated to arrange trip to japan, btw thanks for your videos 🤣
Depends on where you plan on going. The JR Pass is going through some major changes soon anyway. So unless you plan on traveling before October this year, I don't think you need to worry too much about the JR Pass.
can I just bring my passport to the train station and pay and get the JR pass? or I really need to have them ship to my house in US, then bring to the station in JP and activate?
It depends on where your hotel is. Trains will stop generally around 12-12:30. if you can get through customs by then, you can probably take a train as close as you can get to your hotel, then cab the rest of the way.
Hello everybody! Please help with my following issue. I entered Japan last year on October 14th and I got short term stay permission for 90 days until January 12nd. I entered Japan the second time on May 4th 2023 and I got the same short term stay permission for 90 days until August 2nd. My question is: am I allowed to enter Japan again in November, specifically on November 2nd? I am a Romanian citizen.
Do you have to make a reservation ahead of time for the phone data plan or can you just walk in and buy it when you land? I am asking because what if I make a reservation and our flight is delayed, then we miss out.
I think you shouldn't have to worry too much about the delayed piece. All you have to do is give the company a heads up, and I am sure they can adjust the cost accordingly.
hi, I get that taxis from Narita to Tokyo costs lots of money, but what about Haneda? My flight will land me there and it's closer to Tokyo than Narita, I thought taxis would cost less money
I got here, then got everything set up and my suica wouldn’t work and I panicked cus it was during peak rush hour on a Friday. I got stuck in a station for a long time trying to figure things out cus I was determined to learn how the train system works lol. Ugh
just want to know if im just for a 9 hour layover flight is it possible to enter japan with a visa and if do we need to fill out the visit japan website
I am not sure. It would be pretty risky to go out and explore as you would need to give yourself plenty of time to transit to and from the airport along with getting back in.
Very nice video! Is there any particular website or place you recommend in obtaining JR passes? There seems to be more than a few of them. Thanks so much.
@@paulj9221 Also beware that when sites say they are "official" sites, they really mean they are authorized sellers/agents. The official JR company site is the only one that emails you a code. All the other ones mail you an exchange voucher.
@@nateshf9303 thank you. That’s what I just found out, too. Japan Experience has much better prices than the official site. But according to other RUclipsrs, the official site also has the advantage of booking Shinkansen reservations online. No need to go to a station to book reservations. I wonder if this is worth the higher prices.
@@paulj9221 I'm also debating whether or not to spend the extra $35USD/pass when I can also now book and print out tickets from one of those JR ticket machines in most stations. (There are a few RUclips videos on this.) Have fun planning!
It's very specific and some people don't have the phone capability to do esim. Also I will admittedly say I am not the biggest expert on it either LOL!
Ok..question please..I was in Japan in Jan..Am thinking of returning in April...Do I have to go through the same procedures as I did in Jan?..As in get another vaccine cert and fill in the Visit Japan site again?...As for the vaccines..there has been no top ups since my last jab..So it's all still the same...Thanks
Do you know if you still have to use the negative PCR test form that was in Japanese on their website? Or can I just use what they give me at clinic which is in English but has the info they need….
I have a trip in April, from what is on the visit japan website Quarantine procedures (Fast Track), you have to upload the PCR test and fill out the answers as well but no new form has to be filled out.
I would use it just to be safe. That way you will know that ALL the info Japan wants to see is filled out. A form filled out from another testing site might not have all the info Japan wants to see.
Incredible. In the United States, we can't even take care of passenger luggage checked in to the plane. They loose millions of bags every year. And the airlines do not care.

Been using Arbnb a lot in Europe do you know how it compares with Hotels in Tokyo. Also what is better pocket Wifi or sim ?
We used AirBNB in Osaka and Tokyo, it was really great. Both places were clean. I'd recommend a SIM for convenience
For one night stays, my wife and I always book a hotel near JR Stations. We've also stayed in Airbnbs many times and they are clean and safe.

Very informative video! Just one question though. Is it worth to buy the JR pass just for return ticket to kyoto from Tokyo? Thanks mate
Hey man thanks! Nah. I would say if you're doing multiple trips on the shinkansen, then get one.
@@harblife Thank you so much!
@@bluearmy7690 I've got your back as always my man!
Return tickets ¥28k approx; 7-day JR pass ¥29k approx. So if you take one or two JR trains around either city it will be cheaper to buy the rail pass.
I got here, then got everything set up and my suica wouldn’t work and I panicked cus it was during peak rush hour on a Friday. I got stuck in a station for a long time trying to figure things out cus I was determined to learn how the train system works lol. Ugh
I have a Japan Train video to help explain the train system if you want to check it out!
just want to know if im just for a 9 hour layover flight is it possible to enter japan with a visa and if do we need to fill out the visit japan website
I am not sure. It would be pretty risky to go out and explore as you would need to give yourself plenty of time to transit to and from the airport along with getting back in.
Very nice video! Is there any particular website or place you recommend in obtaining JR passes? There seems to be more than a few of them. Thanks so much.
Hi, my wife and I have bought it through Japan Experience. JR official site now also sells it but costs a little more and I just learnt about kloot.
@@nateshf9303 thanks so much. I’ll check out Japan Experience.
If I go to Japan if I have any excess yen I can just deposit said yen in my bank before leaving japan because my bank is also in japan and the us
Hey Harb, is it possible to buy a skyliner ticket in Narita Airport? at 8pm?
Checking google maps, it looks like the last one leaves at 11PM. So you should be fine!
@@harblife thank you very much Harb!! Really appreciate it
What is the app to call a cab
They have an app to call cabs out here called "GO" . But, you need to have your phone registered in the Japanese phone store to download it.
Why so few of RUclipsrs for Japan mention eSIM?????
It's very specific and some people don't have the phone capability to do esim. Also I will admittedly say I am not the biggest expert on it either LOL!
How do you get the visa for American passport?
No visa required for Americans!
As of right now, you will have to go through the same entry procedures. But it appears it is getting less and less strict. I hope this helps!
I went to Shinagawa station for mines i was in Oita
What exactly are you referring too? Your Japan Rail Pass?
@@harblife yea
Do you know if you still have to use the negative PCR test form that was in Japanese on their website? Or can I just use what they give me at clinic which is in English but has the info they need….
I visited Japan three weeks ago and they never asked for the Japan covid form. We just showed them the form we received from the lab.
@@mmlovers1990 thank you! I know awhile ago they were asking for it like on website, but figured they would ease that .
Glad it worked out for you!
Can I load a suica card with a credit card?
If you use the Suica app then yes.
Is Visit Japan Web still required?
Yes
👍🔥❤️
Incredible. In the United States, we can't even take care of passenger luggage checked in to the plane. They loose millions of bags every year. And the airlines do not care.
Trueeee. Japan is pretty good with their customer service!
Is that a Guatemalan Flag in behind you? In the Eevee evolution toys?
Yep! One of my subscribers gave it to me as a present, so I show it as appreciation!
#1. As of April 2023, you no longer need a negative covid test.
Where is the best place to eat spaghetti with no sauce?
Italy
Home
lol
Japan as long as you can speak Japanese!
So o still have to do the Covid test again???
If you aren't vaccinated then yes.
So from the looks of it, the first one is out dated and unnecessary now after April 2023.
Yes it is.
No big deal get off plane on train to hotel done
Nice!
Too expensive place
Which place?
Maybe one day i can visit this overrated country
I still can't believe i spent 200,000 yen on a gameboy in Osaka 😅
