Great tips! Thank you so much!! I just started crafting and they really helped! One thing about copyrights..the reason why companies dont want you to usentheir logo or character in your crafts because it might misrepresent the company and you will be making money off their ideas and they want their share of the profit. :) Im a graphic designer and copyright is a BIG deal. Be careful and learn as much as you can! Youre very smart and you will do great!!
really nice video showing.i am from Cambodia, like your video too much, may i become your new best friend from now.thank for kindness back to me.good luck.i stay around you all time .
Make sure you have a set price in your mind about what to charge for shipping supplies alone, per item - keep envelopes, tape, bubble wrap, and those sort of materials in mind. So, if your bubble mailer cost you $1 the other supplies divided may boost that to $1.25 or so. I recommend actually taking the packages (unsealed) to the post office so the workers can weigh them for you, then you will know the specific shipping rates to add to your supply cost.
Oh of course I have! Still do. Don't worry about it. There's always going to be someone better at something. Just do your best && make your items the best quality possible. :)
You don't HAVE to put a return address, but if something goes wrong (you accidently write their address wrong... or anything else) there would be no way for the package to get back to you. This is a rare thing, but it can // does happen every once in a great while. You can put a disclaimer in your shop about what happens with lost items - say that you are not responsible for the item once it's shipped or you can offer shipping insurance for an added fee.
You want to charge the actual price of shipping (I'd suggest asking the post office workers exactly how much your package will cost to ship & then add in the price of the envelope). So, if you want to sell your item for $5 and the actual cost of shipping is $4.25 you could move some of that to the price of the item to make shipping seem cheaper - so it would become a $7 item with a $2.25 shipping fee, but either way the total is $9.25
One tip I will say is when you are mailing something, once you have sealed it up in the envelope and you have written the address on it TAKE A PHOTO of the parcel. Then if something happens and it gets lost in the mail, you have proof that you sent it. This has been useful for me when someone didn't get their package and lodged a Paypal dispute. The photo was all the proof I needed to close the dispute. Your video has some fantastic hints and tips in it! Thank you!
I normally don't like to watch videos this long, but I started watching it and couldn't stop! Your information was all super helpful and interesting! thanks for sharing your experiences. Heather
What you put out to the world, you get back and this is a great and helpful video, so it's no surprise you're successful. Thanks for sharing your insight. This is great Intel and wish you continued success.
Thank you sincerely for this tutorial. It is the best, most comprehensive overview of selling I've seen - and I've seen more than a few. I wish you continued success with your business and appreciate the time you took to make this video. Looking forward to more of your fabulous crafts. All the best!
You are incredibly smart for your age. I was just talking to my niece about doing something like this. She is 16, and did her first craft show with someone else's products last week. Keep up the great work and informational videos! Good luck to you in the future.
thanks for the tips... I have a crafty business and the #1 tip I can tell you is to contact an accountant or another professional to set up your business model.... while it would have been easy for me to be a sole proprietor but it was a better decision to become an LLC and I wouldn't have known that without consulting a professional...
Wow thank you, this was a really informative video! I really appreciate you taking the time to make this for everyone interested in starting their own craft business :) This really is the best advice I've found on RUclips on etsy/craft stores, so thank you!
@TheTina224 Hi. Thanks! :) And, you have to understand that life is EXTREMELY hectic for me during school. So, my review and gift packages started piling up - hence the reason I had to get them up right after the Christmas season. I had some holiday tutorials, and the Christmas Gifts was a huge request. Hauls don't take as much time to prepare for and film - that's why I was able to post videos when I wasn't feeling well and such. I just started filming 3 new TUTORIALS. =D
@CraftyNC00l I'm glad you learned something from this video! :) If you want to sell online (to people all over the USA or world), then you have to use a shop host (Ebay, Etsy, Weebly...), post videos on RUclips & have people message you to order, or make your own website (which would probably be the most complicated). Selling locally is really easy, though - so maybe try that first and get some experience. Idk if that even answers your question... I really don't know of anything easier online.

What a great job you have done with this video presentation! I feel that one day, you will have a great career in sales/marketing or whatever you choose to do! If you can do this great with a presentation at your young age, you are on your way to a great future! You are a lovely young lady. Continue to grow in your life, and life will treat you well! Thank you for your presentation and I wish that so many young people were as put together as you are! Congratulations!
If the craft isn't very time consuming, then go for it... otherwise, wait to see if the first few sell. You may have to take a break from selling that specific item, but at least you know that your long hours will pay off.
WOW!! I just subscribed to your channel and for a young woman you are VERY informative when it comes to small business info and I just LOVE young entrepreneurs. Much more success in your future!! :)
Thank you for this helpful video! About copyright; the reason why companies + artists are freaking out so much is because other people aren't as honest or as nice as you. Some people unfortunately don't credit the artist, or they take credit for the work OR slap a company's logo on a product and say it's "official" because of the company's good reputation. Also, if a person makes a mold of a button to sell as a button, they're taking a sale away from the person who spent the time creating it.
thank you sooooo much for this i have been wanting to start a business (craft) for a while but didn't really have to much ideas on how to start it so thanks!
I know this video is like a year old already but what a great idea. I always wished more people would share their tips and secrets with others. I guess I understand why a lot of people don't but it is still really nice that she did. Also I had to google the Puzzle Place when after watching this because I do vaguely remember those cute little puppet people from when I was little.
This is great!!! Thank you so much! I just started making clay gauges, and I had no idea where to start with biz cards :D You're totally awesome! And it's true about all the shipping, I've gotten gouged so many times for customers' sake of selling cheap items. Not worth it. But you're awesome, and this is a great vid!!
@paprluvr You're welcome! :) Yea, 1st class is cheapest. You can buy a post office scale to weight your package and determine your own postage, but I just take mine in and have them do it for me. Maybe take a package to the post office (with an item or items inside) and ask them to tell you what it would cost to ship. Once you ship often you start to learn approximately how much each package will cost before you even take it in. And, tracking is a separate option.
@Afinuarti I don't know if it's so much a "legal" issue... maybe check with the school rules. But, if your friends want to buy something before or after class, you really shouldn't get in trouble (unless your school is ridiculously strict). You could ask some teachers // the principal if you could sell items or hang a flyer on the bulletin board... maybe they'd let you sell during a bake sale or something.
@KawaiilovesHk The easiest way (if you have a way to the post office) is to go directly to a post office worker, and have them weigh your package (without sending it) so you can tell your buyers how much shipping will be. Weighing it yourself and using the USPS shipping calculator, online, is also a great option, but personally, I don't own a mail scale.
@TammyHallam It depends on how much the package weighs and how big it is. But, shipping charms or jewelry tends to be cheap. And, I ship 1st class, which is cheapest.
I wish i knew this 25 years ago. I don't have a lot of time left. but, with the time i do, nobody can stop me from making crazy crafts. i have billions of ideas.
@MsLoveforever16 There should be a sign on the blue mail boxes saying size and weight limits for the package. If in doubt, ask the postal workers. Yes, you may have people send you a check to your personal address rather than a PO box.
In response to your point about why musicians don't want people to use their music in videos - I think mostly it has to do with the fact that record companies own the rights to the songs, and anyone who uses them has to pay royalties, and that's sometimes one of their main sources of income. Even TV shows have to pay musicians to use their music, even though it gives their music a lot of exposure.
great tips! my personal opinion when you said why companies dont allow their logo to be placed on people crafts, i think its bcoz they want to protect their reputation since its their identity, they want their identity to be respected thats why its protected/copyrighted to make sure that people wont use their logos without consent/permission. Also many business are for profit, and its not fair to them that others can use their logo in their product and they profit from it and the company get 0.
@KustomFu Try to browse the polymer clay figures on Etsy to get a range of price ideas. In the end, it's up to you, but it's good to know what others have actually sold for.
If you could still make a video about your tips for a youtube account, I'd be really interested! Also, just any more tips on creating a craft business. I've tried a few times, and I tend to get discouraged. Could you also talk about tips on pricing and all that? And if it's not to personal, how much money you are able to make when you have the time for making the crafts?
@MsLoveforever16 You don't have to put your address, but if the package happens to get lost (aka you have the wrong info for the person you are sending it to) then there is no way for it to be returned to you.
@HeyBellBell I don't know. You'd have to ask your parents. Have them help you look it up on Google or at the library. I'm not very knowledgeable about all the tax laws.
Thank you for making these videos. I love learning how to make different crafts, and your video's are very helpful. P.S. I do remember the Puzzle Place
@SoCraftastic Thanks for the advice. I have an old postal scale and am thinking of getting a new one. What I'd like to sell is chipboard mini albums and some may be custom so each will be a different weight. That's why I need to learn how to calculate shipping w/o going to the PO. If it's over 13oz then that will be a problem. But I can keep a log with the wt and postage on certain albums. Thanks. Tere
sarah, your awesome, just awesome, and if anyone calls you a name or says something mean about you, turn off ur ears because your an awesome girl and remember that! I love your vids!!
I can possibly help with you needing a logo (if you still do). Send me a message, let ne know what you might want, or what you want it to represent, or any ideas, the more ideas you have the more things I can come up with and make a bunch of different ones for you to choose from.
a better way would be to go to the post office, send it out there and ask for a receipt for proof. plus the post office works with tracking numbers. I would never send out a valuable parcel from my home. Its too risky. maybe my idea isnt better, but its another way. I like how you suggested this. thank you for lookin out for others.

ILY SoCraftastic
@TheKdog20000 I don't own the rights to any of the juice pouch purse designs or anything, so you can make whatever you want with them. :)

this is a great video for my little 8 year old entrepeneur who started selling some bottlecaps at school lol! I'm going to have her watch it tomorrow!
@KustomFu Try to browse the polymer clay figures on Etsy to get a range of price ideas. In the end, it's up to you, but it's good to know what others have actually sold for.
I don't have an interest in starting a craft business, but I just found this video so interesting!
Thank you so much!!! You don't know how much you helped me!!
Great video Sarah. You have a lot of really good advice.
omg, I had the same sign up sheet on my desk in the fifth grade and sold my macrame friendship bracelets for 5 cents too :D Awesome video!
Yes, you can. I just don't want to broadcast my actual address to thousands of people on here.
Her method of getting subscribers is very simple. Practical information given by a naturally adorable down to Earth young lady.
@louiss4618 I'll include them in a video when I get a craft supplies video organized. :)
@TammyHallam Yes, I'm not alone in my opinion! :) And, I'm glad this video wound up being helpful.
Thank you so much!! :)
LOVELY as usualllllll!!!!!!!!!!
You are adorable! and that is a BIG reason why you are so successful!!!
Great Video. Lots of good points on Etsy and selling in general. Sorta off topic question: what video editing software do you use?
COOL! I started to make hair bows and after I watched this i definitley have more ideas and things to think about........ THANKyou!!!!! :)
If you could still make a video about your tips for a youtube account, I'd be really interested! Also, just any more tips on creating a craft business. I started selling at my local farmers market, that was really fun and got me started :)

@MsLoveforever16 You don't have to put your address, but if the package happens to get lost (aka you have the wrong info for the person you are sending it to) then there is no way for it to be returned to you.
Love this video I am new at selling and this came in handy
@HeyBellBell I don't know. You'd have to ask your parents. Have them help you look it up on Google or at the library. I'm not very knowledgeable about all the tax laws.

Awesome Video! :] I learned alot. Thanks so much Sarah for the tips.
a better way would be to go to the post office, send it out there and ask for a receipt for proof. plus the post office works with tracking numbers. I would never send out a valuable parcel from my home. Its too risky. maybe my idea isnt better, but its another way. I like how you suggested this. thank you for lookin out for others.
This vid make me want to all of your vids, very imformative, thanks !
