My mother bought one of these KYMCO Agility 50 in the late 2000s and she had it for more than a decade. When I was a kid, and I was home or somewhere in the neighbourhood, every time that I heard the sound of this scooter approaching from far away, I knew it was mum... Now, every time that I hear its sound, I feel a little blue because I miss those times... I miss my mother...
For years I rode a Honda Zoomer to work and back through the center of Amsterdam. It was pretty crazy, I would get tailgated, pushed out of my lane, etc. etc.. I got sick of it and switched my variator and exhaust, so I managed to do 40 mph... it's a small speed difference, but it was enough to keep up with traffic and claim my space on the road. A huge difference in safety!
its about time they drop the 30 mph restriction and let them do road speed or cap them at say 45 mph and then they would be a lot safer to ride with out been too fast
Totally agree about the danger aspect of being restricted to 30 mph. It makes the rider feel like they have to ride more in the gutter so people can get past, and creates the driver behind to think shall I, shan't I overtake? I live in Lincolnshire and kids bomb about on these in twisty 60 mph B roads which are still really narrow. Used to ride a TS 50 ER myself back in the day so remember it well. Eee they were the days! Really enjoy your channel and your words of wisdom.
Very cool, and a good reminder of why power is your friend. I used to own a Peugeot Speedfight 50cc 2 stroke. it was a great little scooter, but it was better and SAFER to ride after I took the restriction plate out of the variator, changed the rollers to sliders of a different weight, and cut the restricting pipe off the exhaust. Top end increased from 55 kph to 85 kph, with much quicker acceleration to boot. The restrictions on these scooters cause them to be unsafe to ride.
I had an Agility 125. I was ripped off when I bought it, but they're good. Spares are crazy cheap. I had to get the clutch, front forks, electric controls and tyre replaced, which cost me around £250, including labour. The 125 easily did 60/65, which is about right for what I needed, and when I sold it a couple of weeks ago the guys who came for it were really surprised at its speed and acceleration. Great little things really
Totally agree with you, on todays roads a 30mph restriction puts young people who are new on the road (and likely to have only done a CBT) in danger. As soon as my brother turned 17 I had him off the 50cc scooter and on to a YBR125!
It didn't take long before the restrictor plates were out of my little Peugeot I had when I was 16, taking it on a dual carriageway to school was ridiculous at 30mph! Soon had it sitting at 55-60mph after a few mods though =)
never understood why Government has kept 50CC mopeds stuck at 28mph at 16, it is dangerous for 16 year olds, especially those who live in rural areas/smaller areas, who may have to go to college/work on 40-60mph roads, they should at least allow 40mph on them
Only a car licence needed to ride 50cc or less and 50kph max speed for them in South Australia. They also classify them as mopeds which is weird as they don't have pedals. At 2:56 is that your ST1100?
This is exactly the same scooter as what I got when I was 16, absolutely rock solid little thing. Had a problem with the battery, replaced that and it never skipped a beat. Only died when someone decided to nick it and proceeded to try and setting it on fire. I do agree though that it's far too dangerous to ride at 30MPH, as soon as you're able to get a 125cc or larger, do it.
I have a Gilera Runner SP50 derestricted and it's nice to be able to keep up with the traffic. Mine will do 90km/h but I don't push it there, 70-80km/h is fine to go along with the traffic. Hoping to jump on a SV650 pretty soon, I love that bike :) Thanks for your vids, very informative. Subbed, great channel!
Having owned a 50cc Supermoto, I know exactly how a 16 year old would feel. It was my main mode of transport I used everyday. Wasn't so keen on the faster roads as part of my daily commute but apart from that it was an absolute joy to ride. I did feel vulnerable when cars are tying to overtake me or coming out of corners fast from behind. I do agree they should raise the limit to 40mph to reduce the risk.
Thanks for this video. I've been riding a Kymco Agility 50(Derestricted) in the States since I was 16. I'm about to turn 19 and am upgrading to a sportbike and your videos have been very helpful for learning more before I buy another bike. I think you're exactly right about the speed problem, I think it's probably more dangerous to ride a bike that's slower than the rest of traffic than an actual motorcycle(Do you concur?). I can go 40MPH, but even in a 35mph zone people are not happy to be behind me.
Totally agree with the point you're making about the speed restrictions. I was lucky enough to get my scooter at 17 and have it de restricted. Still get people trying to pass me in 40 zones when I'm doing the speed limit, very stressful for a new rider. Even so I think scooters are the way to go for learning to ride. Even if it's only temporary. The basic controls allow more focus on the road to learn the conditions etc. Also they're alot of fun! My Lifan 50cc 2 Stroke (think it's a 125 size scooter with a 50cc engine as it's much larger than any other 50s I've seen) is awesome to ride. Learnt alot about being on the road in the last year and a half on it. Feel much more confident about moving to a 125cc now.
i do believe the law is a little backward. bikes are limited bhp due to age and experience. Yet. a 17 year old can buy any car once a driving practical has been passed ? if you loose control of a bike main person hurt mostly will be the rider. if a car looses control .. well alot more people can get hurt, little backwards i feel
+Chris Ackerman I agree with you, but a counter argument is bikes are a lot cheaper than cars. It's a lot more difficult for a young person to buy a sports car compared to a sports bike. I think a better system would be 16-18
I've just bought a 50cc Honda in Australia, and I agree with you. They're bloody dangerous on 60 Km/h roads when you're limited to 50 Km/h (37 & 32 Mph roughly)
Nice one, Russ. I agree, restricting them to 30mph is ridiculous. It sounds like that Kymco is more reliable than my Suzuki AY50 I started out on haha.
I had one. my mom was nice enough to buy me one brand new when i was 16 (2009) Didnt have my license yet so couldnt get a car. I had some fun times with that thing. It stopped running though like 2 years after cause i think we tried to unrestrict it or something & it just never started again. Sold it back in 2015 for like $80 cause i was a drug addict. I still regret it so so much. I know it wouldnt have taken much to get it running. We just never really tried because i got my license at 18 & a car.
Bikes in for service and some ahum work this weekend, they said the only loan bike we have is a 50cc learner do you want it. I'm like hmmm noooooooooooooooooope. Too dangerous to me.
OMG!! Mate, 6k Mile Service in March. If they said that to me...I'll be off to a different dealer until I can find something better. I don't blame you at all....Ya pooper Scooper ;-)
I completely agree, doing 30mph on a duel carriageway is the reason why I only have the use of one arm. Very small moped + very big wagon = hiding 50cc moped. I hate the unstable blooming things lol IMO they are very dangerous machines I don't know anyone who hasn't kissed the tarmac with one of them. They should be built bigger and able to do at least 40mph.
we have two kinds of 50 cc mopeds in sweden called class I and class II the class two is the original and the class one was introduced 2001. If you turned 15 before 2009 you can ride the class II mopeds without any education, lisence or test. The post 2009 generation gets to take a writen test for their lisence. The class I mopeds you have to take a driving test and a writen test to drive. Class II mopeds are limited to 1 kw motor and 15 mph and you can drive them on cycle lanes and the city streets. Class I mopeds are limited to 4 kw motor and 25 mph and you can only drive them on the streets. So there are very few mopeds that aren't derestricted and or upgraded cylinder and exhaust.
I understand totally what you are saying. I have a 125 step through scooter for my commute, rather than using my big bike as all the roads are either 30 or 40mph, but even then going at the speed limits I feel more vulnerable on a little scooter because you still get cars on your rear wheel. So can just image the feeling on a 40 road being restricted to 30. Not nice and people these days are in a rush to get everywhere and just notice things until it's too late.
I had a scooter for 2 year and it is very scary when you get a HGV LORRY over taking you . do feel very vulnerable I have a lot of respect for any one who is learning to ride or drive all scooter should be able to go in bus lanes and cycle lanes to be safe
I just bought a new one and dealer refused to derestrict it. How do you do that. My last one, a different dealer replace the "boss" and it got around 42 mph top speed. Is that the same process.
I had a 50cc @16, lasted about half a year before getting de-restricted, I preferred to feel a little safer even if I was breaking the law. Was great to have some independence at 16 and not relay on public transport or parents to get to collage and part time jobs. It should be 125 at 16, what suddenly changes on your 17th birthday that means you are able to handle the extra 75cc?
My thoughts exactly. at 11.59pm youre restricted to 30mph... then at 1200am you're immediately allowed to just jump on a massively more powerful bike that's capable of 80+mph... what changed on that 1 minute difference,
What do you think of Sym Jet? I have got a Sym jet 50cc, i have not yet ridden it but it is way massive than any moped I ever seen. Very heavy and very large
i started on an unrestrictwed 2 stroke 50, which wasnt too bad (unless you showed it a hill), moved up to a 125 and seemed to have forgotten how dangerous 50s are. been back on a honda zoomer (electronically limited to 28) for about 5 months. its so dangerous. people really will not sit behind one. ive had alsorts of dangerous overtakes on it. thinking of trading it in for another 125. the extra power should make it less dangerous. also once took it down a 60 single carriagway, that was fun to say the least, even with pulling in a few times
Had a geared 50 2 years ago - genuinely dangerous restricted! When you're allowed on 70mph roads, it's so dangerous to be doing 40% of the speed limit, no one expects you to be going that slow! Derestricted it straight away so I could actually do 50 (70% of the speed limit), still not great but so much safer as cars are only coming up behind you at 20mph, as when you're doing 30 in a 70, you're the same as a small stationary object and a car travelling towards you at 40! 16 should be unrestricted 50, 17 same at 125, 19 any bike restricted to a certain power (none of this power to weight bs) then 21 any bike, or if you do your CBT at 16, have a restricted bike at 18 then unrestricted at 20 (2 years on each). There should be an improved cbt test for 50's and 125's, a practical test and theory test for restricted bikes at 18/19, then no test to derestrict it when you turn 20/21. The same kind of restrictions should apply to car drivers, as they can hop straight into a supercar or 4x4 at 17 if they have enough money... We need more bikes on the road, and yet the government and EU just make it a bit naff for anyone that wants to get into riding... Just my opinion :)
Hahahaha I have to say goodbye to my sweet car and I got one of these hahah this week I'll change. Here restrictions is 45 km/h but people have them going 55 .I hope is reliable machine
I've always said smaller cc bikes are dangerous. They have enough power to get you into trouble but not enough to get you out of it. As for teenagers wanting to go fast, give them the proper training and restrict them to 70mph, or at least 56 to keep up with lorries. I have a lot of respect for anyone who has done time on a 50cc
I love my Honda Elite 80. It'll do 45 mph without too much trouble. I could never own a 50cc anything though. As much as I love my Elite, I couldn't bear to ride anything even a little bit slower.
Since there are several comments, I still can't understand what top speed is...here in Italy mopeds are restricted up to 45 km/h ( 30 mph). Excuse me for my imperfect English
So..Hello ;-) Mate, it's a Scary thing. I did the 50cc long...LONG before I passed. It's a terrible thing and I hated it so much. At least, after the initial 'wow' had worn off! I actually had a nasty...I was young and stupid but I was trying to 'do the right thing' and keep up and stuff. It was wrong of me! My Fault though (young) ;-) Law makers... I think it's a case of "You're young, you have no idea and we know best" It's a troubling thing though. 16 years old, let them have a 125. 75 mph...Hmm. Maybe, just maybe make bikes 18 year olds +...Yes, I would have hated that on my old Suzuki 120. Basically!! As you can gather from this comment, I have NO IDEA what is best for today :-)
theyre an excellent company and if you do have an accident they are very very helpful and understand you may not be experienced in making claims, as always Ride Safe Brother!
An argument was put to me the other day, while attempting to discuss this topic. Unfortunately the topic was not one people considered discussing... I outlined my point in this video... Hatemail and Abuse HD . I had put a petition up to see what people thought about getting the restriction removed. It escalated so quickly that within 20 min it had to come down.
As soon as you're 17 even on a CBT you may ride one of these de-restricted providing you tell your insurance... however this changes the classification of the motorcycle from "Moped" to "Light motorcycle" so a 16 year old may not ride it as they can only ride bikes under the "moped" classification.
Every 50cc scooter is limited to 50kph (30mph) by law. You can unrestrict it yourself, but it wont pass MOT (yearly inspection) then. Sometimes even the dealer will unrestrict them for you if you want it. In my opinion, just get a bigger bike, its not worth unrestricting them and driving these tiny things on speeds they arent designed for.
@@TheDox451well I use to have this kymco agility 50 and recently got an Rx50 wolf. I didn’t need to get a motorcycle licence and the bike gets up to 35mph. They have it derestricted right from start
In Germany we have more nonsens. A "moped" with 25KM / 15mi. It's the same speed I use with my bicycle. The 50cc class does max 45km / 27mi. The cars can do 50km / 31mi in the city. So even if you have a 50cc you hold back all cars. So there comes all the hate. I hold a license to drive all bikes, but I use a 125cc scooter, which does not cost any tax, also was cheap on insurancy with 27€/year. It does max. 120km / 74mi, which is enough to ride on a freeway.
floflospeed24 If I had a 80cc it will be more expensive. That was bescause in the past young people with age of 16 could drive 80cc's. They had a lot of crashes. 125cc can only be driven if you have a bike license or made your driving license before(1984 I think). That's for Germany, maybe in your country it is different. And be sure to check all insurance companies. Here I can also pay four times the cost if I choose the wrong company.
50cc scooters are dangerous. i've been riding one for a year (here in australia you need to have your car licence for a year before you can do a motorbike test) you hold up traffic, can't go up hills, can't get out of dangerous situations because you have no power. so glad i'm off one now. but everyone should experience riding a 50. they'll appreciate their cars/bikes a lot more.
For the sake of waiting 1 year. They should just remove the P category all together. That said, I've met irresponsible 50 year olds so how the government can say a 16 year old may only ride a 50cc at 29mph but a 17 year old is responsible enough to ride a 125 at 60+ is ridiculous.
its the same in the netherlands the cars ar pusing on you every time the scooter can drive easy 70kilomiters per hour we just got the kymco agility fr50 2018 model man its drive like crap with the new exsoust fume laws
I hate those 50 cc scooters. In germany, their speed is also limited and that makes them very dangerous in my opinion, because cars will overtake all the time, making you very vulnerable. You can´t even flow with traffic because you are always slower. I feel safer on a motorcycle and if I will ever get a scooter, it will be at least a 250 cc.
"Restricted 50cc scooter" just saying it is laughable. Power delivered in a smooth curve is far safer than restricting bikes. That looked like Crumble's ring road ;)
My mother bought one of these KYMCO Agility 50 in the late 2000s and she had it for more than a decade.

Not wrong, anything limited to 30 when a lot of the roads outside town are 40 & 50 is dangerous to both them and those around them.
In denmark we have 30km/t, which go on the bike lanes, and 45km/t for road, the 45km/t requires either an mc or a car license.
i got the agilit 50cc 4 stroke and its a really nice city scooter!, it really is very (agility) nimble and fun the drive
+S Dew are you sure it is a 4 stroke?
Only a car licence needed to ride 50cc or less and 50kph max speed for them in South Australia. They also classify them as mopeds which is weird as they don't have pedals.

The wall your talking about is the cdi box
Here in Sweden 50cc scooters is only allowed to go 28 mph :(
Does the kymco only go 28? I have a 2018 model and in US

Just my opinion :)
i got a kymco super 8 new shape and i haven't had any problems with it the first owner crashed out and i had to get new front Panels
I had a kymco super 9 it was amazing loved it! 50mph unrestricted
That's interesting...a self-flicking kickstand. Saves a step but ya still have to be careful.
Looks like a fun l'il thing though.
Wheels, Hi me dears.
It's NOT ;-)
Blahdeblah52
Geez...thanks, Blah...I guess I'm pretty gullible? Not blonde, just gullible? :o
from a review - what is your weight? a range will help. this is 4 stroke? what mileage do you get? thanks
As much as I love my Elite, I couldn't bear to ride anything even a little bit slower.
wher is a good parts dealer for kymko spares as i have a kymko 125 cc city.
MAYT dat Byk Izz sew SiiiKKK
Since there are several comments, I still can't understand what top speed is...here in Italy mopeds are restricted up to 45 km/h ( 30 mph). Excuse me for my imperfect English
Same here
@@RoadcraftNottingham Thank you very much!
When ya parked up, was you not blocking a pedestrian walkway?
No
ok, wasnt having a dig, was just asking.
good videos love them. very informative.
I hope to be vlogging soon.
Does that mean the bike is at maximum revs at 30?
Talking of really opening my eyes up, did you see that lovely lady crossing the road at 2:00 in??? ....somewhat more racy than the Kymco I'd say ;0)
What year is made your scooter ???
So..Hello ;-)
Mate, it's a Scary thing.
I did the 50cc long...LONG before I passed. It's a terrible thing and I hated it so much. At least, after the initial 'wow' had worn off!
I actually had a nasty...I was young and stupid but I was trying to 'do the right thing' and keep up and stuff. It was wrong of me!
My Fault though (young) ;-)
Law makers... I think it's a case of "You're young, you have no idea and we know best"
It's a troubling thing though. 16 years old, let them have a 125. 75 mph...Hmm.
Maybe, just maybe make bikes 18 year olds +...Yes, I would have hated that on my old Suzuki 120.
Basically!! As you can gather from this comment, I have NO IDEA what is best for today :-)
Kind of agree, make bikes for 17+ ages only, once a person is 17, they can ride a 125... or you could just ban all scooters hahaa =P
250cc used to be in the CBT class am I right??
30mph is dangerous where I live most of the speed limits are 40 or national speed limit and a tonne of blind corners.
Does anyone know the cheapest place to insure a 50cc moped ? I live in the UK
Scooters and bikes or Lexham insurance.
TheEnglishBiker thanks!!
theyre an excellent company and if you do have an accident they are very very helpful and understand you may not be experienced in making claims, as always Ride Safe Brother!
Thanks! I just turned 17 and am going to do my CBT soon was looking at bikes but a 50 moped will do of that's all I can afford
youll be able to find a 125cc motorcycle for the same price as a moped :) RSB!
lol...think the "mmmm" at the end summed it up!
On a A1(125cc) license you can ride one of these un-restricted am i right?
As soon as you're 17 even on a CBT you may ride one of these de-restricted providing you tell your insurance... however this changes the classification of the motorcycle from "Moped" to "Light motorcycle" so a 16 year old may not ride it as they can only ride bikes under the "moped" classification.
are u currier?
nice review mate
I'm just here for your wisdom
After CBT can you carry pillion?
Not as a 16 year old with L plates
Are all of these Kymco Agility 50's restricted? And how can I tell if one is?
Every 50cc scooter is limited to 50kph (30mph) by law. You can unrestrict it yourself, but it wont pass MOT (yearly inspection) then. Sometimes even the dealer will unrestrict them for you if you want it. In my opinion, just get a bigger bike, its not worth unrestricting them and driving these tiny things on speeds they arent designed for.
@@TheDox451well I use to have this kymco agility 50 and recently got an Rx50 wolf. I didn’t need to get a motorcycle licence and the bike gets up to 35mph. They have it derestricted right from start
just passed my cbt today. 13/12/14 yesssssssss :)
Taiwan is NOT China. Thank you for saying so about this company.
27€/year :o I paid 400€/year for my 125cc moped
floflospeed24
If I had a 80cc it will be more expensive.
I had the 125, it was great. :)
Is the kymco a good scooter somebody let me know
I had one. When derestricted it did 50.
Top Speed??
30
I would be happy for a little bike doing less then 30 to be in a cycle lane
Hrm, yes, I seem to recall Mordeth13 mentioning these.
"In the top 5 scooter manufacturers in the world"...
Fifth. :P
might aswell wait a year and get a fullpower rs125 but registered as 11kw ;)
Restricting those to 30 mph is downright dangerous.
You could probably do a rebuild for less than $100!
Might as well cycle, or walk.
these laws are gettin a bit silly, there is no restriction on cars so i cannot understand y ?
My first scooter had a "self Flicky up side stand" too. Utterly stupid and dangerous, never once used it. Piaggio X9 has a fanatstic side stand
I couldn't be arsed with restricted 50cc bullshit when I was younger so I just waited until I was 17 and got a Honda XR125
I unrestricted my Gilera DNA, I can get 58 out of it easily, illegal but 30 is too slow
I'll be contacting the police to let them know
I'm 17 now so it's legal
Mr Blue Sky I'll be contacting your parents
They know and aren't arsed
I'll be contacting the Prime Minister
50cc's are simply dangerously slow restricted in the UK leading to ppl being bullied to the side of the road and cars pushing past in stupid places!
Mine goes about 45mph
Just for reference the official name of Taiwan is the Republic of China. So it very much is Chinese, just not the other Chinese.
the agilty is a good scooter but I wopuld rather the 125cc version I used to have a kymco agilty rs 125 bought which was noit bad at all
U r actly going 27 normaly on a restricted agility the meter puts u 5/mh behinde
If u have a klasse a
They use a GY6 engine witch I thought was a Chinese engine
Agility is actually made in China, some Kymco's aren't, but this one is. :)
my April Sr 50 goes faster then 30 and i can tell the difference from the cbts school bikes then to mine
its the same in the netherlands the cars ar pusing on you every time the scooter can drive easy 70kilomiters per hour
we just got the kymco agility fr50 2018 model man its drive like crap with the new exsoust fume laws
I had the worse 50cc bike in history! A honda CB50 shocking bit of crap 😥
RoadcraftNottingham for president
Enjoy your videos get some more videos up :)
"Restricted 50cc scooter" just saying it is laughable. Power delivered in a smooth curve is far safer than restricting bikes. That looked like Crumble's ring road ;)
Actually it was MY ring road that Crumble rents from me! ;-)
Haha! He's your rent boi LOL
