So I don’t know if y’all noticed. But the final talk with Barry and Oliver in the bar is a callback to their first conversation on the rooftop back in the flash season 1 pilot episode. Oliver tells Barry that he “can inspire people” in a way Oliver never could, “watching over your city like a guardian angel, making a difference… saving people… in a flash”. That’s also when Oliver first told Barry that that bolt of lightning chose him. So happy the writers put these details in their final interaction ever. It was a perfect callback and full of nostálgia.

But more importantly, this part was interesting:
"the Oliver and Diggle stuff was really important to me. As a fan of the Arrowverse and knowing that they hadn't necessarily had that moment to say goodbye, it was really important to me to make sure we gave it its due. I remember being out in the pouring rain with Stephen and David. As actors, I know they were going through those moments quickly to get to Bloodwork. I was like, "No. This is important. On the topic of excitement via surprise or announcement, I do agree that it's better to be surprised by someone coming into the episode organically, like you all experienced here with Stephen Amell. However, it's more exciting knowing ahead of time than finding out by seeing the name in the opening credits. At least if you know ahead, you can have that anticipation and excitement over time as you wait for the episode to come out. If you manage to go unspoiled of the appearance up until you watch the episode and then you see the name in the credits 20 minutes before they actually show up, that's just disappointing that you were so close to a surprise only to have the credits ruin it for you.

I understand that it's not their fault that they were not allowed to make Diggle a Green Lantern, but I really wish they would have just never brought up the box whenever he came back and try to write around it. Where they could hint that he is doing secret Green Lantern missions but whenever he was on earth he could only be Spartan because he was doing some kind of deep cover mission or something.
I mean really, a box with a green lantern ring was sent to tempt him and drive him away from his family on and off for 3 years just so that he could realize his family was important? Diggle already knew that he was moving to metropolis to support Laylas job so that he could take care of the kids and maybe help her on the side. It felt like such a forced cop out. The only other complaint I have about this episode is they could have just cut down the other characters besides Barry, Diggle, Wally, Oliver and Ramsay down to the bare minimum and been glorified extras. We didn't need any Chester Allegra scenes. Barry and Oliver's relationship is so special, because you can tell that Amell and Gustin has such a great relationship. From day one he was so supporting of Grant and the pilot episode of Flash that he actually spoke up and said it was disrespectful of WB to announce the Flash movie on the same day that the pilot officially aired (since it had leaked 5 months early). It's a real big brother, little brother connection that they have even though they don't get to see each other all that much.

David Ramsey himself said that plans changed after the pandemic, and his original show visits were supposed to be more connected.
My best guess is that the original plan pitched was to have the next annaul crossover event, to follow up on Crisis, was going to be a 4 night event of Diggle going to the other shows in a semi-connected plot, so the contracted David for one episode of each show. Then after COVID, things had to be changed but he was still contracted to do all the shows.
The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace has also said that if The Flash had continued, he was planning to lead to a major Green Lantern based story in the future, but not to be

    • @dcworld4349
      @dcworld4349 Год назад

@@Disney15ish What Ramsay said I would believe but not Wallace, just like he said that he wanted to tell a justice league story and that he would have given Legends a backdoor series finale. If that was really true why not do that in series 9 instead of the terrible episodes that we have gotten. I understand the function of a bottle episode like they did in the last episode, and Barry was bound to have to be in a groundhogsday episode since every arrowverse show has had one, and the one Flash had Grant was on break because of he crossover so Nora was the main character in that episode. And it also functioned as a bottle episode since the only other place they use was the set he kept getting killed in by Captain Boomerang.
But when Arrow did their bottle episode in season 5, it was completely character focused. Their groundhogs day episode in season 8 was the best groundhogsday episode in the entire Arrowverse. Not to say Arrow's run was flawless, Damian did not fit Arrow, Diaz was a very poor attempt at trying to have their Bane the way Adrian was their version of the Joker.
The problem with Flash is you can tell the actors are bored because the material they are given has gone backwards. Yes, Legends was a weird show because it started very serious and then somehow became a show for stoners. But originally it was set up to be an anthology show that would follow new characters each season since they knew that they would not get Arthur Darvill to sign on for 7 seasons. However it was done because the show was struggling in the ratings and they figured they would have to retool or cancel the show. Flash was fine, in fact it was great a show that yes you could watch with your kids. But just like the best animated shows or movies are made for adults to enjoy as well.
I feel like the early seasons of Flash was written for the 18-35 year old male demographic that CW had been eagerly hoping to get. Then slowly it got written for younger and younger audiences. Wallaces idea of splitting it into two arcs was a good one but everything after Crisis was a struggle, in fact the best character in season 6 was Ralph. I actually hated Ralph and hoped he would leave after season 4, but he stuck around, and I got used to him being there in season 5. Ended up loving him in season 6, only to not only ruin the man's career for decade old tweets. He ruined the character in the process as a big middle finger to the fans. When he should have been the easiest character to recast if he could not be adult enough to forgive 10 year old tweets. And since then it just feels like he's gotten greedy because as the creator he gets paid extra for Chester and Allegra. Which would have been fine if he had given them the same attention and care he put into making Ralph not only a good character like he was in season 5 but a better character with a more interesting story than Barry had going in season 6.
Sorry for the rant as you can tell, I'm frustrated that a show I once loved to the point that I needed to watch every new episode when it came out right away has been ruined.
It's not just Wallace, I was really mad that they brought in Choi to be the Paragon of humanity. When if there is one person in the entire arrowverse that deserves that title it was Diggle. Crisis actually frustrated me so much that when I was in the hospital I wrote a 20 page rewrite draft. And not counting Superman & Lois everything that came after have felt like everyone is just there to collect a payback. And I don't think that gives Wallace the excuse to continue making bad decision after bad decision. He could have course corrected at any point. Watching this final season should not feel like pulling teeth it should feel like a victory lap. When you hear stories about the crews who have been working on these shows since Smallville to the present day. Admitting that they thought that they were done until the Superman & Lois writers actually breathed new life into the moral. It's clear the problem is you have people who are the the top making certain decision that don't care as much as the others.

@@dcworld4349 Wallace said that he had a plan for 40 episodes spanning S9+10 that would lead to a major epic 200th episode, which that plan for the 200th has now been adapted into this series finale this year (which according to his Twitter account, is the last 4 episodes is a big 4 part series finale) . The Diggle ending in S8 was made because they didn't know they were having a S9 at the time, and where the only ones that could close that arc just in case
Sadly, I can also understand why the Legends return couldn't work in a short season (technically only 9 episodes, since the last 4 are one major story):
Could he have hypothetically made his 2-part Legends episode, or make that be the opening arc insted? Yes, but the issue arises that Legends has a HUGE ensemble cast, and bringing all the characters back would be 8 cast members added to the already criticized ensemble on The Flash. Bringing in 8 cast members, while also paying the series regulars would be really financially expensive, especially with I've heard some places say that the budget was extremely slashed for this final season, so I'm guessing they wanted to save all their budget to make this Arrow return and the 4 part finale as good as it can be, with budget restaints. I'm guessing in his point of view, he didn't want to bring the Legends in if they would end up screwing it up because of season limitations. Would you rather have the sad unresolved ending, or a bad looking return due to budget restraints?

@@Disney15ish The guy who plays superboy on Superman & Lois is friends with someone that in addition to other things has a podcast channel and did an interview for him. And he told his friend that Flash and Superman & Lois has the same budget it all comes down to how it gets spent.
Yes of course with how they have done the season they could not do legends. What I am saying is they could have removed the first two episodes, and episode 8 since the red death arc really was just 2 and a half episodes. Right there you would have time and money, and you wouldn't need to do anything too crazy, repurpose one of the sets that they have re used multiple times in the past. Have Barry in the start of the episode spring them all out of prison and depending on what they could afford, have the stakes of the frame up be big or small. And not use the wave rider at all if that set has been destroyed. Easy fix right there since you wouldn't need to have any powers on display besides Barry speeding them out of prison. If the problem was money related, but even the bottle episode had more effect than what should have been needed. It would actually have been better if the episode didn't have any villan stakes.
Talking of the bottle episode. Wouldn't it have been more interesting if these people were actually curious about Star Labs, had some suspicions finds out what it is without being told because they put two and two together. And promises to keep it secret because they in fact respect the work they are doing. Going so far was to promise to help them in the future should anything happen that requires inspection, they now have people to call.
