One of the truly great artist's of our time. I've loved you Joan since forever it seems and I'm 72 and still have you on heavy rotation. TRUE IS WHAT YOU ARE..
Gotta thank my mum for introducing me to this amazing talent by constantly playing her albums throughout the 80’s (along with Talking Heads, Roxy Music, Men at Work and others). I saw Joan about a year ago on Good Morning Britain and Piers Morgan’s first question was, “you must have experienced a lot of racism growing up in Birmingham when you were young?” Awful question, but Joan is above things like skin colour and replied “no. I didn’t have any of that growing up.” Made me like her even more. Just one of life’s beautiful people.
She got married to her girlfriend in 2011. Honestly, I didn’t know that she was gay until I saw it in a newspaper. In spite of her preferences, it still doesn’t affect her brilliance as a musician! More power to her and I hope that she continues to prosper!
The first casette I bought was Me myself I. I was about 16 then , just got a new stereo from my parents. Those days we copied our friends tapes but this one I had to buy myself. Loved her Music since.I miss those days :)
Did you discover it on the Now Yearbook '80 CD? I rediscover it via that CD. As soon as it started playing I recalled the tune. Never realised that it was by Joan Armatrading.
This British songstress, whose varied and unique catalog now spans 5 decades and the spectrum from Folk, Jazz, R&B and Pop to Hard Rock and Funk and has influenced artists such as Melissa Etheridge and Tracy Chapman, should be in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame but unfortunately isn't. Primarily a Folk/Jazz/R&B/Soul artist, Joan Armatrading showed that she could also do Hard Rock/New Wave. While I wouldn't list this as one of her best songs, it just serves to make her all the more unique and therefore fascinating. She has truly carved-out a unique music career, and I love her for it!!

Six days to be alone
With just me, myself, I
Me, myself and I
Just me myself, I

Don't wanna make a soul cry

I just don't want company
Except me, myself, I
Me, myself and I
Just me, myself, I
I sit here by myself
