Great comparison! I use the Weber cube but will give the oiled napkin a try! Never thought about doing that.
Thanks Kevin! The napkin works great.
Appreciate Video clip! Sorry for the intrusion, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you researched - Proutklarton Incredible Match Plan (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is a great exclusive guide for getting an understanding of how to survive in a disaster and make your own survival food minus the headache. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my old buddy Taylor got astronomical success with it.
Johnny, you really put a lot of effort into this video.
I found it very informative and interesting.
I have been using the cubes from Weber here lately, however, the oiled paper towel seems like a real good option.
Thanks so much for sharing this! I’m sure it will benefit many who watch . I know it did me.👌😎
Thanks. In the comments there was a person using dryer lint as a fire starter... I’ve been meaning to try that... just have not gotten to it.
Those cubes definitely look like the ticket. I have pretty much used paper most of the time. Very informative video.
Thank you sir!
I use toilet paper holder or paper towel holders the cardboard part after they are empty and fill with my dryer lint all winter. I have several to last through the years. Great video thanks for sharing. Hope you have a great night.
Stacie, that is incredible. I have never heard of that method... cool idea. Take care and thanks for watching.
Stacie ya I have a bag of dryer lint for my camping trips works fantastic
View to a grill yes it works really well. Thanks so much.
What a great 👍 video love the idea of a oiled napkin to start the charcoals
Very creative
Thanks Jeff. This was a fun video.
I love the weber cubes. Instant high heat
Hi John. Yeah, the weber cubes are my favorite!
Appreciate this video. I'm new to charcoal grilling, and was considering buying those tumbleweeds. But I've been convinced now that not only are they no better than paper towels, but in fact they might even be worse!
You are welcome.
I love your channel so much because I always want to BBQ with charcoal but always have such a hard time!! I hope now I'll have better luck!!
Thank you Isabella, my channel is more than recipes... I want youth get to know the tools and methods as well as the recipe. I hope it helps.
Very cool test Johnny. I always used newspaper, good to see i can use an oiled napkin when we dont have newspaper around. I'll stick to homemade
Oh yeah... homemade is the way to go.
Helpful information. Thanks Jonny
Thanks for visiting.
This was a cool test Johnny. It’s interesting to see the different results on all the different things you used. The tumbleweed was the slowest? I like how the other items you used pretty much tied. That’s good to know if you are picking what to use at the last minute. Have a great weekend my friend 😎
I left you like ten 🌟
Thanks for coming by. I appreciate you watching. I hope you are having a great holiday season.
That was an interesting test Johnny! I typically use newspaper, because it's free and easy to come by. I've thought about using an oiled newspaper/paper towel because newspaper sometimes goes out before the coals are lit. I've heard great things about those cubes as well. First I heard of the tumbleweed, so I found that both interesting and relevant! Nice work!
Thank you sir. This was. fun little test, I knew they all worked just didn't know they would all end up about the same.
@@Viewtoagrill Yeah me too! That's one of the things I thought was really interesting!
Cool comp! I use news paper and then the kingsford bag.
Thanks Chris. I use the bag too. Take care.
Great comparison. I guess it’s really comes down to personal preference. I really like the tumbleweeds
Oh yea, you have to go with what you like. One thing I did notice odd about the cube was it left a little stain on my table
Good info bro!
Thanks Alton.
Very good to know! I ran out of the tumbleweed starters. I like the napkin with oil 👍. Definitely doing that 👍👍
Oh yes, the napkin with oil works very well. Take care!
"Every week" we get grocery adds in the mail. The dull printed paper I keep for fire starter with my chimney. The shiney paper doesn't seen to work as well and it's all completely free. My favorite Lol Also I can't see where news print would be any worse than petroleum based starter. We use a lot of the spray canola oil so that's a great tip. Cool comparison Johnny. Thanks and ATB, Tony
Great point. The shiny part of the newspaper is no good for this. Thanks Tony.
Cool test man! I always go with crumpled up paper my self.
Me too. News paper is what I use also.. until there are no more news papers... I guess I can see how my old iPad burns?
@@Viewtoagrill Hah, probably TOO well! I have a secret weapon, my wife's a pre-K teacher! I have never ending trash paper to burn!
What a great demonstration!! Good work putting this together!! I enjoy your quality videos! Would be cool to see you do a Wal-mart challenge sometime. Pick up their cheapest charcoal grill, hit their meat department for a steak, and see if you could work your magic. Just a though I had....
I'll add it to the list... Great suggestion.
This is very interesting. Never seen one for together quite like this one thanks for sharing the outcome
I appreciate you coming by.
Me and my homies used to put a oil napkin straight in the bbq pit with the charcoal to get it started. 👍🏼
Indeed. That works great.
Great comparison Johnny. I think it's what people can afford...or if they are concerned about what they are burning. You covered it all as usual. Great job bud!
Thanks Rob!
Very cool! Lots of options love it man I’m the old fashion news papers guy myself!
Thanks MBC. I appreciate you coming. I didn’t know you were a griller. When are we going to see a grilling vid?
Oooo yeah man love grilling really love smoking I smoke almost every weekend! I’ll do a video soon!
👍 Good comparison, Johnny! Personally I prefer tumbleweed. My least preferred is newspaper. Yes, it is cheap but for me there is too much smoke and airborne ashes involved. Thanks for sharing! 😀
Thanks GG. The news paper is messing.
Good information Johnny always seem to be looking for something to start the charcoal !
Thanks Jimmy. Folks are leaving comments on what they use for starters... so are interesting.
Now that’s a fire 😁...new here watching and thanks for sharing
LOL... sounding a bit country there... I know... I laughed at myself when I was editing the video.
Thanks man, you saved me in a pinch!!!
Awesome!
Great tips Johnny!
Thanks Kelvin.
I enjoyed this video, thanks a lot Johnny. Very well made and informative.
Thank you Gus!! I appreciate the nice comment. Take care.
omg this is great, really loved watching, cant wait to see more from you :) keep the great content coming! :)
Thanks
Very interesting jhonney great job 👍I like it .
Thank you so much Uroosa.
Nice informative video. Thanks man. 👍
Thanks for coming by.
Love your channel and how much time and effort you put into your reviews. Quick question, can you think of any cons for using a used sanitary napkin soaked in vegetable oil as a fire starter. There are a lot of those laying around and it would be awesome if we could save trees from going to waste.
Actually, I don't see a problem with using a used paper napkin. As long as it was not used to clean up something harmful... I think it would be fine.
Hey new friend great video. U did awsome testing with lots of tips thanku for shareing
Thank you so much for watching.
I've been meaning to try some of those fire starters. I just go with good ole fashion paper towel and oil.
I use the oil napkin or news paper. I got the other ones jus to do the video.
nice sharing
Thank you
Hey I usually use oil soaked napkin thanks for the tips.
Thanks Stephen. That is a good choice of fire starter.
I like these kind of videos. My Performer has the propane starter, but there's been more times than I'd like to admit that I was out of propane and had to scramble for some paper. Not proud moments, but what can you do.
Thanks Mark. This one was fun to do
Awesome test brother. Thank you so much. You got an instant follower
Welcome to my channel! Thank you I appreciate it. Take care.
Hey Johny! Great comparison Vid! All get the job done in the end.......good to know. 👍
Thanks Ken. I enjoyed making this video. I also like some of the I posts of what other people use as their homemade fire starters.
Ok.......I'll add My Flame Thrower! 🔥🔥🔥
Heavy Metal Bar-B-Que show off!!
:-)
Very kool Johnny! Thanks for sharing😎
Thanks Ric! I appreciate you coming by!
Wonderful video 👌👌👌👍👍👍👍 like 👍👍👍
Thank you so much.
Excellent video!
Thanks Nino!!! You are an excellent viewer!
Which do you prefer now after some time? Do the weber cubes leave any bad taste on the food? I have seen some people say that. Was surprised to hear that.
Hello Ryan. I actually found a new product that I really like. Superior fires start cups - amzn.to/3xA7nD5
I also like the fact that they are made in USA. I know that does not matter to some folks but I like the fact that it is.
Thanks for the video, very informative
Thank you watching.
good instruction, thank you sir
You are welcome
Oil soaked news paper / tissue paper is my choice. thanks Johnny..!!
Hello Brenny. Great choice!
Cool test, all winners. But...what did you do with all those lit coals? Toast a ton of marshmallows? 🤣🤣
Thanks! ... 4 steaks!
Great video!
Thanks Rommel. I appreciate you. Take care.
I like to use a used can food can, that is maybe 2 inches tall, fill it with a small wad of toilet paper. This can be soaked with an ignitable fluid. I am using regular charcoal lighter fluid because I have so much of it, but you can use any cleaner burning fuel, they all work with this method. I like this method best because there is almost no loss of fuel due to drippage, everything is contained in the pet food can, and the burn time is limited by the amount of fuel added to saturate the TP wad, and the bottom of the can that acts a fuel reserve.
Hello Johnny. That is a great way to start up the chimney starter. Thanks for sharing.
Wow amazing
Thank you for watching.
Alton Brown used a newspaper soaked in oil back in the day. Interesting 😃
Oil soaked newpaper? nice. I think I had another comment of someone using an oil soaked newspaper.
Is one cube enough for one full charcoal briquettes of chimney starter?
Yes, one works for one full chimney starter. This is an old video, I like the 'Superior Fire Starters' I use in all of my newer videos better than these cubes.
@@Viewtoagrill thanks for the info
@Viewtoagrill which brand makes "superior fire starter"?
amzn.to/3TX729G
@Viewtoagrill thank you. I am sorry but one more question. I am korean and love eating Korean barbecue. And they are thin sliced. And one of the most popular Korean barbecue is sliced pork belly. I noticed the fat makes it flare, and I heard that when flare touches the meat, it creates black spot(different from mallard reaction) is not good for our health. What is the difference between fire(flame) touching the meat vs. Flare touching the meat? I am asking this because sometimes we cook food with using a torch's fire directly onto the food, but flare touching the food is not ok.
What about a coton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol?🤔
Not sure about that one. Have you tried it? Some people use dryer lint...
I use tumbleweeds but I found that using two will get you the best results 🤷🏾♂️. The thing about the tumbleweeds is I can buy them a lot more places that I can buy the Weber cubes so that's why I use them more often than anything. But I'm also a Royal Oak Fanboy so my comment is taintedly biased so don't trust anything I say lmao 🤣
LOL. I actually try them all for no other reason than just because. Take care Jesse! Welcome to my channel.
How many napkins to start chimney?
Just one.
Cotton ball or q tip ash and two wood shakes
Thanks Lafoe. It is cool to see other folks and what they are commenting about their own home made fire starters.
Something to think about while trying to figure out what to do with played out oil from the deep fryer!
Or, the occasional bacon grease and other fat drippings from other fatty cooks.
That is a great point Lazy D... it does not have to be the oil I used. Thanks for the comment. Take care.
Or oil that's gone rancid
Never considered the oil napkin,thanks.
You are welcom.

Thank you Sandy.
Very nice upload :) Thanks for sharing :) We are your new subscriber :) Thumb up for you :) Have a great day and see you again :)
Thank you!
Since newspapers no longer exist, I rip up the charcoal bags when empty, use junk mail and now Amazon is packing things with brown paper that works great. I'm not rich enough to buy things to burn, (other than charcoal).
Charcoal bags work well because you can separate the layers and they burn easy.
great I like it and hope you visit us
Thank you so much!
Thumb up for advanced efforts and level here

Charcoal chimneys are made and designed to use newspaper...if your using anything else your just wasting time and money....this is ridiculous
Yep, I use to always just use newpapers. I like having options though.
