    -- Acupressure Mat Review | Bed Of Nails --
    A while ago, I saw one of my friends using an acupressure mat. It was this foam thing with little plastic spikes on it and had a label reading “Bed of Nails.”
    Yikes, no thanks, I thought. That looks painful!
    But then I started to see them everywhere with rave reviews all over the place, and I got to wondering: do acupressure mats actually work?
    And moreso: are they painful?
    So I decided to look into it.
    It turns out that acupressure has a long history of use as a treatment for everything from back pain to insomnia. Acupressure has a calming effect on your body, helping you to release tension and relax your mind.
    An acupressure mat is a convenient way to bring the healing power of acupressure home in a tidy little DIY bundle.
    So I ordered one to try.
    In this video, I give you a complete acupressure mat review from what it is to who it helps and I also show you how to use an acupressure mat -- spoiler alert: they’re not just for your back!
    And I give you my honest opinion about whether or not you should buy an acupressure mat and what to look for when shopping for one if you do.

    I got one a few weeks ago. I was a bit skeptical, but wow! I love it! It helps me relax and has even reduced my knee pain a bit. It's a bit poke-y at first, but then feels wonderful. The only discomfort I experience is sitting up afterward. For about 15 seconds, it stings a bit. Then it's fine.
    I love it!

    (Hi again, I’ve watched and commented on like three of your videos by now 😂)
    I bought a mat a few months ago just before I started getting treatment for upper back/shoulder/neck pain. (Side note: the chiro was the only thing that has helped. Regular yoga is the only thing that keeps the pain away.)
    I use it under my feet to feel more energized, and I use it on my back before I fall asleep. It knocks me right out, because I barely remember the moments between getting off the mat and falling asleep. Most of the time, it takes me forever to sleep without some sort of help.
    I’m so glad you’ve posted this because when I was considering getting one, it was so hard to find information about the actual neurological effects. Everything else was too woo, even for me 😂

    • @SukieBaxter
      @SukieBaxter  3 года назад +6

      I know, right? I’m a big fan of woo myself but then I’m like, wait, what’s really going on here?! I guess I need to take things down to their most basic level to be sure I understand their application. I’m told I have a “systems level approach,” which I guess is a thing.
      I’m glad you like your acupressure mat! It sounds like it’s super effective for you.

    I bought one to see if I could get some relief from 3 yrs of chronic pain. I have had traction, dry needling, PT way too often. 3 or 4 rounds of injections at a respectable spine institute in Charleston.. I used a thin night gown and my bed this first time. I was told Tuesday I have fibromyalgia, all my cervical disk bulged inward, and need the last round of my injections in my lower back. I sure hope this will help, even if just a tiny bit, improve my quality of life🙏

    I got one of these from Dave Aspry years ago. I do admit that it's a tad bit uncomfortable for the first 10 seconds after laying down but it quickly becomes bearable. I really like it and it does a remarkable job of quickly calming you down. I usually lay on it for 6 or 8 minutes until the discomfort begins to come back and that seems to be all that's needed.

    • @SukieBaxter
      @SukieBaxter  2 года назад +6

      I think that it helps in that it promotes novel sensory input which can be soothing to the nervous system. Everyone’s individual results will vary though and because this mat gives a spiky sensation, if you happen to trend toward hyper arousal, you may want to start slowly because the intensity could be triggering. (I personally have not had this experience and find the mat very calming.)

      Yup. l'm finding a lot of value & useful information in these videos, but yeah you're right.. some peaceful acoustic guitar or something like the Dalai Lama's album would be way more soothing and fit better to this information & atmosphere 🤷

      Yup. I have a PTSD subtype from a brain injury. The background music is definitely stress inducing. But hey thats me - I also cant handle the music in grocery stores or coffee shops either. But i find the more i share, the more often i find others who echo my experience. Ironically, lying on my acupressure mat had me pretty chilled out before i was watching the video.

    So far I’m not very much intelligent discussion about the bed of nails. I certainly don’t believe that the better mill Matt is to hit the acupressure points. We went down on the bed of nails in a particular way. Also the less number of the nails the more intense experiences,I have one now and I thought for years the real purpose of the bed of nails is so we can train ourselves to relax and the pressure under pain. Or stated another way to activate our para sympathetic nervous system. I bought one i’m trying to get in the habit of using it every other day but a little forgetful. When I do use it is night and day I am set I am relaxed and energized and clear. Long deep breath and most importantly a longer controlled out breath..

    Just commenting for the algorithm, really. I really can't believe your channel helped, it seemed so new age hippy. I'm still in denial, but thankyou anyway. I promised myself I'd do a donation if I decided it worked.... don't see any way to do that though.
    As an aside, been rubbing my dogs ears to calm her down for years, so that's why I gave it a go. I can't believe it seems to work.

      She probably gets an Amazon commission from the link to the brand she shows here, but at the end, she did suggest what to look for if shopping other brands, so I think her comments on using a mat in general are genuine.

    Why are companies continuing to make products out of plastic?? If humanity rightly condemns plastic drinking straws, you would certainly think that they would find a different material to make the spikes out of.

    So you got it for free, and the end of the video is just you reading a script of what they wanted you to say to influence people into thinking they need to buy this specific mat. Which they dont at all. These kinds of videos are just pointless and biased.
