From what I can tell Yamaha P-145 and Yamaha P-143 are the exact same thing. the 145 was released in Canada has diffrent voices from the p-45. the 143 was released in the US and has the same voices as the p-45 but "upgraded".

I have big hands, and with my hands Is till have issues playing between the keys on my DGX-670, making the keys thinner is the same sin as trimming space of toilet paper to make squares smaller.
The only thing this keyboard has going is the somewhat better key-action, but that's really it, I would rather save for a brand new albeit older P-515 model.

Man, let me tell you about that Yamaha DGX 670 in my opinion, it is the best sounding portable grand keyboard in the world. I bought one from a thrift store three months ago and paid $500 for it BRAND NEW!! man what a steel.

  • @Zoco101
    @Zoco101 6 месяцев назад +6

My thanks to Jeremy for this important review. I'm glad that Yamaha has updated the P-45 and created the P-145. I hope the new action is better and not worse. The new sound engine is very promising. It's a shame there's still no dedicated lineout, and no sympathetic string resonance.
I've always criticised the P-45. It seemed like Yamaha kept it so brutally simple just to justify the prices of the P-125 and P-515, and to discourage musicians from gigging it, but I had an interesting gigging experience with a P-45 anyway, just last night.
I was assured that I could leave my portable piano at home and perform on the venue's "excellent" rehearsal instrument, but nobody could tell me which model it would be. As it was an easy band gig, I didn't worry unduly about the tone.
When I saw that I would perform on a P-45, my heart sank. Nobody had a Y cable to connect the headphone socket to the band's mixer, so I performed through the 6W+6W monitor speakers in a medium-size concert hall.
Fortunately, the downward firing speakers' output hit a wooden floor, and the instrument could be heard. The hall acoustics helped too, as did playing against an acoustic band. Without connecting to bigger speakers, the sound must have been extremely compressed, but strangely, it wasn't too bad, and I got away with it. With no reinforcement, and utterly exposed, the P-45 put on a better show than I expected. And being a Yamaha, there was zero extraneous noise at maximum volume.
The moral of the story is always bring your own dp if the supplied piano is an unknown quantity. Maybe I'll start carrying a Y cable too. But the P-45 gets my praise for holding its own against adversity, and this bodes well for the P-145. I would still recommend spending a little more and getting the P-225 or the PX-S1100.

Aloha, Jeremy. It's nice to see another video from you after quite a while. Such a great review for a not so great keyboard. But you are honest and objective. Albeit, it is an 88 key digital piano, like you said it is so lacking in features and performance compared to other brands. Yamaha makes great products but the feature content falls short. I would rather spend $250 more for the DGX-670 I believe you have that is a much better keyboard albeit a model from several years ago, but definitely not lacking in sound quality and features, and not dated, though not primarily intended as a beginner keyboard.
What can you get for $100 more that is a current model? A Roland FP-30X. That is if you can get hold of one. They are in such great demand and hard to find anything wrong with it for the price, especially the sound and it's highly rated keyboard action.
Yamaha has the $1000 CK61 which is incredible, one of the two keyboards I want when I feel I need them, along with the Roland FP-E50. I think I explained why both are great, but different, and hence why I want both.
One of those main points is that the CK 88 cost I believe twice as much when the FP-E50 should be priced at $1500-2000, but is the best bargain around at $1000 for an 88 key digital stage piano.
I rest my case. Thank you for letting everyone that see your videos to make good education decisions to find the right keyboard for them and their wants and needs.
I believe both of us have found most of the aspects and considerations to keep in mind with funding the right keyboards for sound, features, design and value for new keyboards. Used ones have so much variables, like cars you have to check them out for condition and value.
To me, I have to of the most practical and affordable 61 note keyboards
Both good to have for their differences, with the only main shortcomings for what they are being the lack of stereo L/R ¼" audio output jacks.
The Casio CT-S1 and and the Roland Go:Keys that while at a high costs, has much more sound selection selection and other innovative features, especially for music creation, not just playing.
But the CT-S1 is so great, even professional plays can have and many probably do to just play for enjoyment without having to power up their pro rig, and be able to take it anywhere with them.
Another major point is, not everyone has the essential need for full weighted hammer action and 88 keys, or all the time. So for many, a good action 61 note keyboard is fine.
But for $1500, the MyPiano V2 is great to go anywhere and have an 88 key modular digital piano to take anywhere.
My only question with the magnetic connectors of the modular sections is if it can be put on a keyboard stand, and not just only a desk or table top to support it.

I bought the DGX -670 based on your review. I'm disappointed with it in some ways, yet in other ways it is very good. I'm wondering about the 525 as a replacement. I'm OK with the GHS action on the DGX. The speaker system is also very good. The operating system drives me completely nuts. The DGX is also ver heavy and difficult for me to lift at 81 years old.

I want to say right now:
Yamaha has INSANE quality control and they're design for keyboards, even the cheap ones, is PHENOMENAL. The balance between touch weight and the actual tonal response is ALWAYS good in my experience. I've got a Yamaha P-85 from 2009 that has a soundbank of a sampled Yamaha CF3S grand and it sounds so good and it is by far one of the most versatile soundbanks ever made. It excels with being played by hand and with midi input from a sequenced file from a computer.
Also the dynamic range is amazing.
Yes you can get a better Yamaha keyboard (the Arius series is their best in my opinion, the Yamaha CFX concert grand sampling is unreal) but you probably won't be disappointed by the P-145 or other low end models from the P series.
Also MAKE SURE YOU USE REVERB ON THESE. Crank it right up, it helps insanely!

  • @kosomolsk
    @kosomolsk 6 месяцев назад +1

I think Yamaha isn't going for "cost performance" or "value for money" with the P-145. Their "value for money" work is the DGX-670. This one is for those who don't want to spend even one extra dollar on a digital piano even in exchange for a large upgrade in performance. They just want the cheapest thing that's a "big brand" product.

    • @Zoco101
      @Zoco101 6 месяцев назад

That was how the P-45 sold so well. Yamaha is impressively, er, consistent. I often criticised the P-45, but perhaps I was a little harsh. Hope this new GHC works out better and not worse. The AWM tone generator wasn't bad, but the CFiiis samples should be particularly good. Works brilliantly on my P-255. If Yamaha hasn't cost cut too much on the chip, we might expect the same result.
But there should be a line out. Even a mono line out would help. Unsuspecting pianists get asked to perform on these instruments and can't connect them to the PA. Only last night, that happened to me with a P-45. Nobody had a Y cable. I'll post the rest of this story in the main thread.

Hello. I spent last summer with your keyboard reviews here on YTube and then purchased a DGX-670 last fall. I am very pleased but have not yet begun to fully utilize its functions. I did buy one pedal, the FC3A but have yet to figure out how to get it to sustain. Wondering if the Donner pedal is any different? Anyway, thanks for all the keyboard reviews. I bought a Roland E-X20 about 40 days ago and I was wondering if buying an 88 key Yamaha was the move. I'm planning to learn music and play all kinds of genres but I do love the classical pieces a lot. I know you haven't reviewed E-X20 yet bu do you think was shortsighted to get a 61 key for a beginner or can it still serve me well long term?

And the 64 notes of polyphony...
So...I'll saving money for get a Yamaha P125 (my first 88-keys keyboard)
The new P225 is cool too, but I don't know, I don't like its CFX samples, the CFIIIS samples of the P145 and P125 sounds "electric" but I love that :

So, Jeremy, let me ask you a question. This is not related to the P-145, but for a 'new' DGX-680. No, I don't know anything about a release date for such a product, but what I'm wondering is, do you have any friends over at Yamaha R&D or Product Development.
I think the DGX-670 is a great product, as you've said in past reviews, but I think the -680 could be to the -670 what the -670 was the previous versions. I kind of thought if Yamaha made these improvements, it would be an awesome product, and as I was watching this video, I wondered if you had people at Yamaha that you talked to.
Anyway, I have a bunch of suggestions for the new -680, if anyone at Yamaha was interested.
    1. Include the stand and three-pedal unit in the purchase price. Most people are going to buy it anyway, so bump the price a bit and include it.
    2. Speakers: Get rid of the wimpy 6-watt speaker system. Yamaha has the new HST 3 and 4 speakers. Incorporate the HST 4 speakers into the new -680
    3. Rear panel: The rear panel should look more like the PSR-E425 with the addition of a standard set of MIDI 5 pin DIN jacks.
    4. TWO headphone jacks on the front panel, on Main, and one for 'Instructor' so someone who is teaching someone else can sit down and listen to the student while everyone else doesn't have to hear.
    5. A 7" screen. A touch screen would be nice, but if you don't have a touch screen, but a larger screen, that's okay, too.
    6. Under the Accompaniment section, instead of just one Intro and Ending, two, please.
    7. There are only 263 styles. That should be at least doubled, say 550. Take some of the styles from the new Genos, but i would suggest a majority of those new styles be 'Great American Songbook', 'Latin/Ethnic" and 'Rock and Roll' (50s through the 70s)
    8. There are 601 voices. Expand that out to about 8-900, including samples of that new Character Grand from the Genos.
    9. Please replace the Pitch Wheel with a pitch/mod joystick.
    10. Finally, I hate the plastic music stands that slide in. I'd rather see a longer metal framed stand that inserts into the back of the keyboard with like four attachment points. That way, you oulc have three or four page charts instead of two pages.
Anyway, if you know anyone at Yamaha who might work in the division that this is created from, would you send them this list. Yes, I know the price will have to go up, of course. A price of $1,699 with the included stand, and all those upgrades would be what I would consider a fair price.

I've tried the P45 in a music store and was not at all impressed with the key action. I guess GHC with the short key pivots will probably feel worse. I don't feel any of the cheap Yamahas represent good value now, Roland FP10/FP30X have amazing actions (though I somewhat prefer the Yamaha sound). Also Yamaha's more expensive models are amazing both in action and sound (I have the P515)

A keyboard like Donner, Alesis, Williams hasn't been in the market long enough and the piano samples aren't as accurate. Just a few years ago Williams was known for their cheap "Allegro" & "Legato" portables with semi-weighted keys selling for $100 in the US at Walmart. Recently came across some full-size Williams including "Rhapsody III" in a local store. The keys are weighted but the key action didn't feel like 1 continuous motion but has a break in between. Cheaper than the competition definitely but not a good buy for serious learning.

I have read I also may need a midi kryboard for music making/production later on. For my situation, I am confised between the Yamaha P-145 and the Yamaha EW 425.

I don't really get why, but in India, the P-145 is somehow only 40K Rupees, compared to 55K for the Roland FP-10, and 50K for the Korg B2. Is that enough of a price difference to make it competitive?

I got a check of $100 for my 17th birthday recently. I have an upright piano but it’s so out of tune, needs cleaning and repairing, and to get it fully restored it’s like $2,000. I want to get a decent affordable keyboard that has 88 keys, weighted keys for dynamics(playing soft/loud), and a sustain pedal. I can’t seem to find one that’s pretty good and around my budget. I love classical music, I play classical piano and I want to play on something that decent until I can afford getting my piano restored. Advice/suggestions???
