I love The Clash - Paul Simonon gave me his guitar pick! I saw The Clash live a bunch of times, and they were like a locomotive just plowing through the venue - POWERFUL! They gave 1000% of themselves each and every time.
My brother is also a music producer, drummer and guitarist here in the UK. I just found your channel through your reaction to Tim Minchin's Prejudice which was adorable. The Clash were definitely inspired by punk but also by the reggae they heard through the Jamaicans they shared that part of London with.
Rock The Casbah is a fun song/video by The Clash. ❤the channel. Always appreciate your smile and enthusiasm. 🎶 Happy New Year to you and yours Steven. May 2025 bring many blessings your way. 🎊🥳🥂🎉
Kia ora hello from Aotearoa new zealand. Dude your life has just begun 🤣. THE CLASH ❤ my favourite band ever followed by Stiff Little Fingers . My 18 year old son is called Strummer Clash Palace (palace is my surname) I'm not biased at all 😜😅😂 BUT THEY ARE THE GREATEST BAND EVER 🤘✊🤘✊🤘✊
One thing you might have missed at the end of the outro section, Mick Jones plays a single guitar note spelling out SOS in morse code, which is very appropriate given the apocalyptic theme of the song.
I love this song perhaps beyond reason. Saw the Clash quite a lot at at a gig at the Lyceum London (now a theatre again) was hit in the back of my head by a full beer can. Lot of bleeding, friends to help but bouncers absent as usual. Violent and angry times with a lot of arseholes not knowing where the true enemy was. Wouldn’t have missed it as a special time in our culture.
Kia ora hello from Aotearoa new zealand. Hay i saw The Cramps here in 1986 at the galaxy nightclub in Auckland city. LUX INTERIOR was a complete MADMAN ON STAGE
One of the most influential late 70s punk era bands. The sound of the UKs disaffected youth, this was our battle cry. The nuclear arms dick waving between the US and the USSR, with Europe caught in the middle. Police corruption and violence. Poverty, unemployment, this was our sound they have a vast catalogue of social narrative
So glad you’ve finally gotten to the Clash. Such a DEEP rabbit hole of hits to do down. Fun little fact, they made the live American tv debut on a show called Fridays (SNL clone).
The Clash ROCK... and not just the Casbah.... I saw them opening for The Who in '82.... What a show! The Clash has a plethora of great tunes.... here's a very small sample... Janie Jones Jail Guitar Doors Clash City Rockers (White Man) in Hammersmith Palais I Fought the Law Tommy Gun Julie's Been Woking for the Drug Squad Guns on the Roof Groovy Times Gates of the West Brand New Cadillac Spanish Bombs The Guns of Brixton Death or Glory Four Horsemen I'm Not Down Train in Vain We Are Radio Clash Know Your Rights Rock the Casbah Overpowered by Funk Should I Stay or Should I Go My band used to cover I Fought the Law and Brand New Cadillac Let's Go!!! Rock the New Year! Cheers!
You probably won't surprised to learn the drummer was a jazz drummer by trade. For me, they're one of those bands who had exactly the right group of members. One of those creative synergy things. Go for "Armageddon Time," and "Guns of Brixton" for some of their ska/reggae influences, and maybe "Up in Heaven (not only here)" for noise that aligns into music. Oh don't miss "Magnificent Seven" for some rap before it had left the underground scene.
Thanks for this. It takes my mind back to hanging out on 4th St at Bleeker Street Records in the West Village in the late 70s. They played new music that attracted my teenage mind - classics like this and some lesser known bands like The Hudu Gurus that were CBGB worthy. (I love that the iconic punk club was started as a country, blue grass and blues venue.. Hence, cbgb)
Happy New Year, Steven. The Magnificent Seven, When Ivan Meets G.I Joe, Hitsville UK, The Leader, Police On My Back, Should I Stay Or Should I Go and Somebody Got Murdered (written by Joe Strummer and based in a real murder) are my go to from the album Sandinista, Rock the Kasbah from Combat Rock album. Unfortunately, I don't know many more from the older albums.
Yes! Punk gods. Very influential to my own politics to this day. Their disdain for Thatcher and Thatcherism (and Reagan and Reaganism by extension) is imprinted on my heart.
I saw The Clash in Feb 1980 and I will never forget it. Chest pushed against the stage, right in front of Paul, the bass player. Joe Strummer was a poet of a generation. Happy New Year dude. I'd love you to go through The Clash chronologically to see how they changed from Album to Album
I love the Clash and was fortunate to see them live in early 1980 shortly after this album was released. London Calling is their very highly regarded third album and marks the Clash's coming of age from being one of the main instigators of the UK Punk movement. If you want a taste of how they evolved, try 'White Riot', 'Complete Control' and 'White man in Hammersmith Palais', Cheers and Happy New Year.
Aah, my misspent youth 😆Epic band, although they were only around for ten years. OG punk from the late '70's but they played around with a lot of different sounds, reggae, ska even rockabilly. Rock The Casbah was pretty big in America, so you may know it, different sound as it was much later, great track though. Paul Simonon's bass was always a driving force in all their music. My Doc Martens might live in the back of the closet now, by I still love The Clash. ✌❤
Great reaction! I think you'll really like The Magnificent Seven - very different, very funky. Ridiculously groovy. 👍👍 They are all incredible musicians, which sometimes gets slept on.
The Clash and The Sex Pistols were the two bands that started the Punk movement. So yes, they were very influental. I think one of the reasons The Clash were so popular is, they were very melodic for a punk band, which helped to bring in some of the more mainstream crowds too. PLEASE react to "Somebody got murdered" by The Clash. It's such an awesome song. One of their top 3 for me personaly and probably for a lot of their fans also.
You would live quite a few Clash songs. This is a great album and should definitely check out Lost In The Supermarket. My favorite Clash tune. Wrong Em Boyo, Train In Vain, Brand new Cadillac, and Spanish Boys are all great from it. Another great song by them is Safe European Home. And yes they’re one of the earlier punk bands, but could be considered a thinking man’s punk band. Joe Strummer had some solo stuff that’s good also.
if you like music with attitude with a message do a deep dive into The Clash - The Clash were a punk band and this was their most comercial biggest hit - yes this song was a pop song with a punk vibe
This was the punk era. In the late 70s, the NATO countries were going to rely on the neutron bomb to destroy any Soviet attacks, and in Europe it was a possibility. In the UK we were cynical as to how 'London' was going to protect us. I had pals in UK forces at the time, and a Soviet attack was considered likely. Our conventional forces would have been overrun, and the next stage would have been push-button. The song echoed those concerns. We all just lived our lives as normally as we could, but our real defence was from nuclear weapons, which would have been reciprocated from the Soviets. That's why it didn't happen.
Favorite song from The Clash, Rock The Casbah. Put out during the time when leaders in the middle east forbid young people from listening western rock music. The song talks about how behind the backs of the leaders, they continued to listen and rock the casbah. The song is hard to hear all the words. Have the lyrics handy. ruclips.net/video/bJ9r8LMU9bQ/видео.htmlsi=AthRoINF63FEbYxe Enjoy!
There may have been bands who speak to people more emotionally. There may have been some who were more musically proficient. There may be those who meant more to you personally. There has never been a band who were more exhilarating. Don't try to name one - you will not convince me!
The Clash do not fit in any genre. Like Primus or Bad Religion, they are a genre unto themselves. "Lost in the Supermarket" "Brand New Cadillac" "Guns of Brixton" "Clampdown" "I'm Not Down" "Know Your Rights"

Such a unique sound!! This is fire!! What should I check out next from them?!
The London Calling album is one of the best albums not just by the Clash but by anyone!
“The only band that matters” IYKYK
Yeah The Clash was a big part of my ‘Punk’ days. Man those 80s had some great bands.
70's for us on this side of the pond. 🤘
I love The Clash - Paul Simonon gave me his guitar pick! I saw The Clash live a bunch of times, and they were like a locomotive just plowing through the venue - POWERFUL! They gave 1000% of themselves each and every time.
This was the soundtrack to my childhood. Came out when I was 8 but was played continuously through my teenage years in the 80's.
An anthem. Such an iconic sound and voice, and the darkness and grittiness of the official video… That’s indeed an eternal banger
I saw The Clash first time in NYC. In 1979 and then three times in 1981! At Bonds it was a mad house!
Train in Vain, Should I Stay or Should I Go, Rock the Casbah, I Fought the Law, just a few of the Clashes hits.. 🔥
My brother is also a music producer, drummer and guitarist here in the UK. I just found your channel through your reaction to Tim Minchin's Prejudice which was adorable. The Clash were definitely inspired by punk but also by the reggae they heard through the Jamaicans they shared that part of London with.
That’s awesome and so glad you stumbled on the channel! Hope you are enjoying it! Have a great one! 😁
@@setonhillstudios So far I'm enjoying what I've seen, yes. Wishing you the best for the new year and beyond.
🇬🇧
The Clash are one of the most influential bands ever. My favourite "Should I Stay Or Should I Go", or "Rock The Kasbah" & "I Fought The Law"
The Clash have much to offer! Saw 'em warm up for The Who 😎
It was Punk that was popular though. Filmed December 1979 on a boat by Battersea Park.
Rock The Casbah is a fun song/video by The Clash. ❤the channel. Always appreciate your smile and enthusiasm. 🎶 Happy New Year to you and yours Steven. May 2025 bring many blessings your way. 🎊🥳🥂🎉
Happy New Year to you as well and thank you so much! ❤️
Guns of Brixton 👌🏴
Rabbit hole time bruv. Great reaction 👍👏👏👏🔥. Anything from the London calling album for a start 👌

Ah, my Anthem. Totally. One of the best songs and the Album is brilliant.. Rock the Casbah is also a total ... Ahhhhh
i lived in the best era..
One thing you might have missed at the end of the outro section, Mick Jones plays a single guitar note spelling out SOS in morse code, which is very appropriate given the apocalyptic theme of the song.
The only band that matters!
Punk, for sure. My 21 year old son LOVES them.
Guns of Brixton 👌🇬🇧
The Clash have a lot of great songs, especially from about the era when they released this song.
The best front 3 stylistically in Rock
I love this song perhaps beyond reason. Saw the Clash quite a lot at at a gig at the Lyceum London (now a theatre again) was hit in the back of my head by a full beer can. Lot of bleeding, friends to help but bouncers absent as usual. Violent and angry times with a lot of arseholes not knowing where the true enemy was. Wouldn’t have missed it as a special time in our culture.
Loved your observation of The Clash!
Great reaction once again! You'll like these two, also!😊❤ "Train in Vain", "Rock the Casbah",
Happy New Year🎉
Appreciate the recommendations and Happy New Year to you!! 🎉
Still find it shocking all the people who haven't heard stuff from this era before.
Better late than never I guess 🤷🏻♂️

Definite Let's Go band Steven! The Clash brought punk to the mainstream in the early 80's. Check out Should I Stay or Should I Go 🔥
Love this song! Very catchy! Yes, Rock the Kazbar is a good next choice ;)
Thanks for this. It takes my mind back to hanging out on 4th St at Bleeker Street Records in the West Village in the late 70s. Thanks. I never knew what CBGB stood for. I thought it must be the owners initials.
Happy New Year, Steven. without the clash you wouldnt have half the genres today

You should listen to Know Your Rights next.
Listen to 'Brand New Cadillac 'live.
If you consider the Ramones as punk in its infancy, The Clash is punk after graduation.
Wow ❤❤❤❤
Rather than check random songs just listen to the whole album it's full of absolute bangers.
Punk Rock indeed
if you like music with attitude with a message do a deep dive into The Clash - The Clash were a punk band and this was their most comercial biggest hit - yes this song was a pop song with a punk vibe
I would LOVE to see you react to Call Me Malcolm - Dead Men Take No Pills.
