Taylor can adapt herself into every genre because she‘s THE lyricist. Lyrics are her strongest element that‘s why she‘s able to do different music styles.
I think this song is about people who get their personalities by 'mirroring' others. The people pleasing kind, the ones who never got to hear their parents say they're proud of them. The ones who are not talented enough to be exceptional, the ones who study overnight and loses focus because they don't have that mental capacity. The friend who walks behind on the sidewalk, the ones who cry themselves to sleep knowing how much of a stranger they are to everyone including themselves.
I do this every single time Taylor puts out an album. I sit in my room and turn everything off and put my headphones on and listen to each lyric with my eyes closed. I listen in order from beginning to end because she always tells the best story.
I love ‘mirrorball’ the most. There’s something about the part when she says "hush" - it felt so beautiful and comforting. The song is ethereal, it just touches your heart. It’s sad, hopeful, and loving all at the same time.
This song just hits so different when you're the "funny friend". The one laughing too loudly and smiling too brightly for anyone to ever ask "hey, are you ok?". The one who's everyone's best friend, but has no one to talk to when things are going south. They're a mirrorball, and they need people to keep looking at them, laughing with them. They need to prove themselves worthy of loving, worthy of staying for, and they know just being who they are will not be enough.
As someone who literally is that person, I honestly never realised how this song actually matched that, but now that you have said it, it made it realise why this song gives me the urge to simultaneously cry a river and laugh like its my last day on earth. It resonates with me so much that I did not even understand why I felt such strong emotions when listening to this, but thank you for this. And I hope you find someone soon, who will be there for you when things take a turn for the worse. :)

"I've never been a natural all i do is try try try" A revolutionary line. 20 years into the 21st century and this type of honesty is still unimaginable from big artists. No one does this. Not in such a matter-of-fact way. So unglamorised. Not exaggerated to the point of it being someone else's story. This is her. Admitting to the world what most are unable to admit to themselves. A huge song.
how dare you say that and invalidate and discredit all the many other artists who are so extremely vulnerable in their music and share so much of themselves in their music. artists like Ariana Grande, Olivia Rodrigo, MGK, Zoe Wees and Billie Eilish just to name a few. especially Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo.
This album is going to get every music award on the planet. Taylor Swift has saved lives with this music release. She's brought to the world something amazing in the worst year ever.
girl same. I'm at this hostel that I just moved in and I just feel so depressed with the environment as Im introverted and I try hard to fit in but Taylor Swift just decided to release a whole new album 😭
This song is probably for the ppl who’s trying to do everything they can and always giving their best, so people will look at them and be proud. It’s like they are pressuring theirselves to shine and to be the one who always looked at. Inshort people who seek validation and changing theirself just so they can fit in. But it also goes for the ppl who are struggling to shine or to be looked up and always trying their best just so others can see that they are really trying to get out of the loop and they are giving their best. Both are trying to hide the pain, pretends to be happy, wanted to shine and afraid to be “disappointment” (or are already a disappointment but trying to prove that they are not.)
I feel like this song is for her fans. "I know they said the end is near," referring to the saying that female artists lose their relevance after they hit 30 and how they always have to reinvent themselves in order to have a hold on their fame. "You'll find me on my tallest tiptoes, spinning on my highest heels love, shining just for you," meaning she's still going to keep writing songs to her fans no matter what happens, even when she grows old and loses her fame.
This better be the slow dance song that every DJ plays during a slow dance in every High School Prom in 2021. Taylor Swift created the perfect slow dance Prom song literally this song makes you want to slow dance with your lover.
It’s crazy that she’s one of the richest and most famous women yet she’s remained so relatable through her music. Like when she says something or writes a song like THIS… i’m moved to tears because I feel like it puts the person I am into words. I’m emotional, empathic, an over thinker and a people pleaser. This song makes me bawl. Not just out of sadness, but to describe a “chameleon” sort of person as a “mirror ball” is very beautiful. I hear this song and I feel seen and heard.
@@HayDayEveryday well in recent years but she is very successful at the grammys lol she won has 2 album of the year wins which is just so iconic but i will throw HANDS if this doesn't win something
Its like she's telling her fans that even some says her career is ending near, she is still in the top right now and shining for us. She's a mirror ball because she's showing every version of her fans, every song. "I'll show you every version of yourself tonight". She'll make us dance beautifully. Ang ganda neto sa concert.
"I can change everything about me to fit in" I think this song is way deeper than just wanting to get the attention of one guy; it's about trying to stay relevant to the public. At the end of the day, Taylor Swift is an artist, but she knows she has to compromise somehow to do what she wants to do, but still manage to please the general public. I remember that scene in Miss Americana where she found out Reputation did not get any of the main category nominations at the Grammys. After finding out the results, she said, "I just need to make a better record." And even though the person she's talking to on the phone said that Reputation is a great album (even though it is!), she kept insisting that she will do something better. Just like any human being, she wants that validation of having a lot of people appreciate her art. This song talks about that in such a subtle way. The real point of a disco ball or mirror ball is to be at the top and the center of attention.
This song is about how she feels like she has to make songs for her fans because she wants to keep them happy. It's also about how she has to be different versions of herself when shes near different people. She started writing this after she found out her shows were cancelled and the line about the circus was inspired by that.
"I've never been a natural, all I do is try try try", the most relatable thing I've heard from Taylor Swift song. I feel sad and proud with this line at the same time.
I think “Mirrorball” is about people trying to be the best version of themselves, when really they’re beautiful the way they are and don’t need to change for people to like them. This song makes me cry cause I had an awful day and I can just relate.
This lowkey hit home waaaay too close. I guess this song is for the people who seek so much validation from other people, which is a habit they're still really struggling to break, how they used to make themselves uncomfortable just to make their friend(s) or significant other to feel comfortable, walking behind the group because there isn't enough space for you with rest, feeling left out almost all the time because you feel like the odd one out and pretending to like and know all of these things just to fit in or join the conversation, trying to have their attention on you just once, even for a second because you feel like you're invisible most of the time, knowing that they wouldn't really notice if you were gone.
You're the guy who'll be telling his friends that you won't be able to play fortnight because you're busyyy. Right? So I just wanted to tell you that this alone makes me wanna be your friend.
isnt it odd every jack antonoff produced album gets scam....like melodrama and NFR and oh I heard jack also produced some of the songs in reputation but its just really wieerd how those albums didnt win
People who always put others first make others laugh and smile, but when the spotlight is off and they're alone, they feel like no one really knows them.
This entire folklore album is the most breathtaking music I have ever heard. It's a mixture of sorrow, nostalgia, happiness, and other feelings I can't explain. All beautifully conveyed in song. A masterpiece!
Notice how the "mirrorball" hints at different versions of herself through the colors: Green - Taylor Swift Yellow - Fearless Purple - Speak Now Red - Red Blue - 1989 Black - reputation Pink - Lover Grey - folklore
The songs on this album have helped me get through so much pain. It's so soothing to my soul. I love the simple melodies and simple words on this album. She is naturally talented. Thank you, Taylor Swift.
Same! I've been a fan since i was little, i can't wait to get back home from school and boot up the computer to play Taylor's Songs, also when i got a phone i requested my dad to put Taylor Swift Songs in it and he gave me a pair of earphones and that's when i always listen to her while watching the scenery pass by at the window of our service van😁😊
This sounds like one of the more personal songs on the album. The whole circus imagery tells how Taylor feels as a performer in the music industry having to reinvent herself so the audience stay entertained. Then the tight rope imagery... Of course her whole journey must feel like walking on tightrope, the way she is scrutinized and judged for everything she does. Best thing? the chorus sounds like she's talking directly to her fans who can relate so much to her songs, and assuring them that she's still spinning in her highest heels, shining just for us💖 I could be wrong of course but this is how I interpret the song
Woahhhh everything that you mentioned makes so much sense!!!!! Plus you described it in such a beautiful way:)) This is such an intriguing comment to read! It's such an amazing song
Yes! The way she went from singing country songs about youth and love, then about heartbreak and anger, and now it's like shes looking back at how "Everything Has Changed" It's so beautiful to have been with her throughout this journey. I'm sure all of you feel the same-
i think of this as the more subdued and mature step-up from I Know Places. the "hush, when no one is around my dear" and being on her "highest tip toes" could allude to her and her SO having to avoid media attention as to what they do together. She's a mirrorball for the world, as well as for her SO, but for different reasons. I'm aware that this is my interpretation, though. So it's probably wrong. However, this theme is expanded on "peace."
Out of all the songs from the folklore album, this was the one I related to the most. The way that even if the circus was called off, she was still there, even though the mirrorball has been broken for a couple of times, it still shines. And the 'I've never been a natural, all I do is try try try' part, hits me straight to the heart
2:30 this part makes me cry cause it's so relatable. i realize being in a similar situation, all the craze of teenage and early 20s has gone, and so has my ability to make my parents proud. but even when i think i'm not doing anything to make them proud, everything aroud me says another story. like a moth to a flame, i keep running in circles and i keep walking on that tightrope, doing unwanted things, living an unfulfilled life , stepping into experiences i don't wanna have; just for them to look at me n say you're enough. i wish i could just exist, without having to worry about pleasing everyone around me. i know i can change it but it's easier said than done when it's the only thing you've done your whole life. i feel everyday that the rope i'm walking on is rather tightening around my neck...
i might not be your parents but im very proud of you, stranger on the internet. i think what you've done so far is amazing and you can do so much more. there's still time :)
*to me, this song will always resonate with me “i’ve never been a natural all i do is try try try”* *it’s never easy to keep getting back up on your feet and carrying on with our lives staying busy and constantly feel like you always have to bring something new to the table to “satisfy” a certain situation. applause to her for the existence of this song!* 🙏🏻
She changes herself, she reinvents herself and she puts on a mask to be exactly what you want her to be. You see what you want but you aren’t looking at her; similarly when you hate on her it’s a reflection of your own pain.
Yeah. "The I'll show you every version of yourself tonight" seems to me shes saying how she recognizes how people can relate to her songs and apply them to their own lives and situations while also saying she knows the affect her songs have on purpose and writes what she knows people will like and want to hear and relate to.
@@1940semochild I think it's coming from a more personal place than this. I feel like she's a true empath and many times these people reflect and reflect and reflect while in relationships or conversations with others, to the point where the other person might realize some deep truth about themselves or else fall in love. Or else a person who is insecure about their identity or having some kind of crisis of identity, who is essentially a social chameleon and can easily fit in any and every situation almost as if they are personality shape-shifting. It is a matter of survival and not of manipulation.
In Miss Americana, she talks about people liking the shiny new toy for like two years and how artists, particularly women, have to keep reinventing themselves or else they're out of a job. As she points out, women have to reinvent much more than men, so that they can remain "shiny" to fans. She said that she thinks this is probably one of her last opportunities as an artist to grasp onto that kind of success so she has to work really hard while society is still tolerating her being successful. “Hush, I know they said the end is near but I'm still on my tallest tiptoes spinning in my highest heels love shining just for you...I've never been a natural, all I do is try, try, try, I'm still on that trapeze, I'm still trying everything to keep you looking at me.” I think this song is for her fans....
i love how the disco ball on the corner shows off all the colours of albums written by taylor! Also 'I've never been a natural, all I do is try try try' hits hard...
"I'm still trying everything, to get you laughing at me" "I'm still trying everything, to keep you looking at me" literally my favorite lyrics can we talk about thoseee
I have the theory that she wrote this for the swifties, when she says “I’m still trying everything to keep you looking at me” she is always reinventing herself working on new different kinds of music for us, i mean she is trying a lot🥺
yes mirrorball is her song dedicated for her fans, career and her incessant need to reinvent so people will "keep on looking at her" and appreciate her body of work. its one of her best songs imo. ❤️
Aww such a sweet thought. I always felt it was an intimate song to her lover. The "hush...when no one is around my dear..." but you're right. She loves making her fans happy.
Mirrorball in my opinion is about changing yourself for others. Having a different personality for your friends and relatives or someone else. You might be more mature with your family and more loose with your friends. Trying to make everyone love you is hard, and sometimes you just give them a different version of yourself to fit in. I relate with this a lot and im sure more people do to.
this hit so hard when you’re that person who is always trying to stay positive, the one who is always trying to keep the energy up and the one who has different versions of yourself with different people and is also the one who is struggling mentally and is just struggling in life in general..this song hit differently when you go out and look and act certain way just to “fit it” and you go home and feel empty and lonely and sometime cry about where you’re at in life..this song hit different when you’re constantly pleasing people around you bcs you don’t have other option it’s like you’re stuck, you want chase other career but you don’t have the opportunity to do it.. this is definitely one of Taylor Swift’s best song that she has ever written and released.
For like a drametic prom scene of a guy dancing with a girl and the girl who is the main character shows up very beautiful and everyone wants them together from the start and then they start dancing together
I "discovered" Taylor a few weeks back just randomly watching YT videos, having never previously paid any attention. And I keep discovering a new favorite song. This one is beautifully written and arranged.
The fact that she had the lowest register in the pre-chorus coming in to the highest note (hush) means there’s HUGE improvement on her vocal stylings. I also love how she made her vibrato shine on the beautiful, mirrorball, and revelers part
Nobody is talking about that bridge. Its something else
It hits so hard. They called of the circus burned the disco.. It's about that she had to cancel all her shows due to Corona. And I think a lot of people can relate in there own way.

This got a little too real

I feel like this song is for her fans.
"I know they said the end is near," referring to the saying that female artists lose their relevance after they hit 30 and how they always have to reinvent themselves in order to have a hold on their fame.
"You'll find me on my tallest tiptoes, spinning on my highest heels love, shining just for you," meaning she's still going to keep writing songs to her fans no matter what happens, even when she grows old and loses her fame.

"I can change everything about me to fit in"
I think this song is way deeper than just wanting to get the attention of one guy; it's about trying to stay relevant to the public. The real point of a disco ball or mirror ball is to be at the top and the center of attention.
yup
omg yesssssssssssssssssss
Wow..
This song is about how she feels like she has to make songs for her fans because she wants to keep them happy. It's also about how she has to be different versions of herself when shes near different people. She started writing this after she found out her shows were cancelled and the line about the circus was inspired by that.
That last gave me chills wow you’re so right
"I've never been a natural, all I do is try try try", the most relatable thing I've heard from Taylor Swift song. I feel sad and proud with this line at the same time.
I can imagine Taylor at the Folklore tour, singing this song with a dress with mirrors

I think “Mirrorball” is about people trying to be the best version of themselves, when really they’re beautiful the way they are and don’t need to change for people to like them. This song makes me cry cause I had an awful day and I can just relate.
This song is criminally underappreciated right now.
its fine as long as people like us appreciate this
her vocabulary, the wide variety of metaphors she uses in her song-stories are just proofs of her extraordinary lyrical genius
She's a treasure for people who learn English
Her lyrics aren't that great if so many of us would notice them.
@@IWantToMature85Really? Which ones? Provide examples.

Taylor really has that dreamy voice that just transports your spirit to another plane.
This is actually one of her saddest songs of her career. It tells about her career, her journey, her fans and the world 😢

1 - the best day
2 - call it what you want
Midoriya OFA and ronan!
Midoriya OFA Call It What You Want is a happy song!
Silver Lining huh! Gurl-look at the lyrics :(
This sounds like one of the more personal songs on the album.
Yes! The way she went from singing country songs about youth and love, then about heartbreak and anger, and now it's like shes looking back at how "Everything Has Changed"
It's so beautiful to have been with her throughout this journey.
“They called of the TOUR, burned the CITYS down, sent home the FANS and DANCERS, but I’m still WRITING SONGS”
"I could be wrong, but this is how I interpret the song" you listened to a lot of Taylor's songs didn't you?
Out of all the songs from the folklore album, this was the one I related to the most. The way that even if the circus was called off, she was still there, even though the mirrorball has been broken for a couple of times, it still shines. And the 'I've never been a natural, all I do is try try try' part, hits me straight to the heart
This reminds me of her “safe and sound” song but a whole album

this part makes me cry cause it's so relatable. i realize being in a similar situation, all the craze of teenage and early 20s has gone, and so has my ability to make my parents proud. but even when i think i'm not doing anything to make them proud, everything aroud me says another story. like a moth to a flame, i keep running in circles and i keep walking on that tightrope, doing unwanted things, living an unfulfilled life , stepping into experiences i don't wanna have; just for them to look at me n say you're enough. i wish i could just exist, without having to worry about pleasing everyone around me.
i know i can change it but it's easier said than done when it's the only thing you've done your whole life. i feel everyday that the rope i'm walking on is rather tightening around my neck...
i might not be your parents but im very proud of you, stranger on the internet. i think what you've done so far is amazing and you can do so much more. there's still time :)

*it’s never easy to keep getting back up on your feet and carrying on with our lives staying busy and constantly feel like you always have to bring something new to the table to “satisfy” a certain situation. applause to her for the existence of this song!* 🙏🏻

Mirrorball in my opinion is about changing yourself for others. Having a different personality for your friends and relatives or someone else. You might be more mature with your family and more loose with your friends. Trying to make everyone love you is hard, and sometimes you just give them a different version of yourself to fit in.
