I've been debating for a couple of years as to whether or not I want or need a greenhouse. Needless to say, it's quite an expensive purchase to buy one and not really make use of it. This video just solidified my decision! Yes!!! I need and want a greenhouse! Thank you Janey! Now to inform my husband!! 😂🤞
Haha good luck! 🍀
I have no idea where you live or if you have access to Costco, but they have a nice little greenhouse on special right now online. I think it’s for most of this month. It’s a Yardistry greenhouse about 8’x10’ for $1,499.00. In my area that is a very good price. I bought one and am really excited about getting it put together.
I had a Harbor Freight greenhouse for many years so this is really an upgrade for me.
I like a greenhouse to extend the season with my veggies. With the price of food right now, an inexpensive greenhouse soon pays for itself. 🤗
@ell-just42day thank you so much! I'll definitely look into it. I'm in the thumb of MI zone 6, so yes, I'd like to extend my growing season too! I'm just now getting ready to start seed starting! 😊
I’m also in the pro greenhouse camp! I’m don’t know what zone you live in, but one thing that keeps me from jumping in and buying one is that I want to make sure I get heating and cooling situated. The downside to just a structure without heating or cooling installed is that in the summer if it’s really hot outside the greenhouse will become a ‘hothouse’ often 50’ degree hotter inside, which will kill the plants.
…and in winter the inside of the greenhouse becomes a cold frame and is the same temperature as outside during the night. Not ideal for plants we’re trying to overwinter…
So…hence my hesitation! What does everyone else think? I’m in zone 5b/6 for reference. Very cold winters and hot, humid summers.
@@GardenGrown we are in the process of a new build, so now it's the time! It would be in close proximity to my horse shelter with power and water. I just need to be really sure on the location!!
😂 when you said your girls took the one umbrella to school. Here in Vancouver BC Canada (temperate rainforest), our umbrella collection is like a middle aged person's reading glasses collection. Multiples stored everywhere!
I feel this! I’m on Vancouver Island, and we have so many umbrellas everywhere too lol
I love the rain… sometimes love the sounds of what you are doing in the garden. No music❤ You are so lovely and a great teacher
I love the sounds of the garden. I never listen to music when I’m out there and love it!
Nice greenhouse. For your calathea on the table with the curled leaves…only use rainwater for filtered water. I live in the country of Panama where they grow in the wild in 6 foot wide clumps. They love it under trees where they get dappled light and rainwater. Happy gardening. 😊
Thank you!!!!
Janey! Make a pond near the area that has bad drainage - You could direct the water to a wee pond feature closer to the front fence. Kind of like a secret pond garden. You could call it the "Willow Walk" garden. Just a thought. Love your videos.
Rain, rain go away. Janey wants to plant today! 😊❤
Yessssss
Gophers are the worst!! 😂😂😂 I love you Janey!! I've been blown away by all that you are accomplishing. I'm so inspired by you! 🥰🥰🥰
Debb 👉🏻😡 hahahaha love you Debb!
Wow, the grasses removed in the zig zag bed created a more cohesive view through your dry bed garden back to the house. Exciting to see a garden evolve.
Loved this video for so many reasons! 😜😍
I love seeing the colour tulips, geraniums, hear the soothing rain ☔️ on greenhouse. Because it’s -10 blowing snow here.
A rainy day propagating in the greenhouse....lovely! ❤
🤗
The rain makes all the colors of the rocks in the dry creek bed just shine. It looks fantastic you guys!!
The dry creek bed looks so good wet!
Love the sound of the rain
Such a beautiful greenhouse. It's also exciting to follow you on your journey in the garden.
Good morning Janey! I recently 'woke up' my bare root dormant geraniums that I overwintered in my basement and will be taking cuttings from them soon. I've had success rooting geraniums in soil but have never tried rooting them in water. Please do give us an update on how your geranium cuttings do and which method was more successful. Thank you! 😊🌸
Thank Vita! I knew I heard someone that you could store them over winter! I’ll keep you updated! 💗
Great video, rain makes everything grow and it washes away all the dust and dirt off of plants well everything. Everything looks so fresh and clean. Love your channel and love y'all ❤❤❤❤❤
I love the garden after rain! 💗 thanks Judy!
Thanks for the great propagating tips for geraniums! I can't wait to do this! 🩷🩷
You make me so excited for this season, watching from Canada and spring is coming soon!
The sound of rain is so nice. I live near Santa Barbara. I do get that cringe feeling because of the med flow and I think of those who just had the burns in their area but the rain sound is so beautiful
I was thinking of that too. So scary. I remember the mud slide in Carpenteria.
@DigPlantWaterRepeat ; I live in carpinteria and we were an island for a week and a half
This video is very timely for me. I’ve been thinking of propagating my geraniums which are over wintering in my garage. Zone 7 here. You make it look so easy. Thanks so much for sharing. I’m excited to get started now😊
14 degrees in Michigan this am. This video was life! Loved the outtakes at the end. 😂
Yep. I started my geraniums from seed and grew them outside till frost then brought them inside and I also have some in the garage near grow lights. I think they will make it till May. Zone 4
Hi Janey 🌺. Well done . This is a great video for propagating plants. I also love propagating geraniums, shrubs, jasmine, roses and others... I love all tybes of geraniums. I have alot in my garden and also in containers. The red ivy and the burgundy and pink with white also red with white are amazing and you can add some ivy geraniums to the green house and they bloom all year round. Have a fantastic day and sunny .🌺🌻🌺
Hi Lina! I want some Martha Washington geraniums in my garden too! 💗 have a good day!
@DigPlantWaterRepeat Hi Janey🌺 . I also have Martha Washinghton geraniums and they are so pretty and they will be amazing in the green house .🌺🌻🌺
I loved this video due to the sound of rain and no music. I don’t care for geraniums and would’ve skipped this one, but this was so soothing. Who knew?
Gosh, I'm thinking about all the Geraniums I have wasted. I can't wait to try these methods. BTW, thanks for the lovely rain sounds. The Zone 5 where I live is seemingly turning into a very arid place.
Heck, just pot up in the greenhouse , that’s what they’re for😊. Seed starting etc. You have a ton of space!
Thanks for the propagation video I really needed this. So excited to hear germanium’s are easy - thanks Janey
I knew you could do this with coleus but geraniums!? Crazy! I definitely will over winter next year to do this!
Loved seeing this! I have been propagating various plants in water as well. More than I need for my space, but enjoy doing it. Enjoyed meeting you at the Landscape Expo and look forward to getting my book that you and Michael Glassman collaborated on.
Love the sound of the rain so relaxing 😊❤️
Thanks for confirming my suspicion of having budworms. My geraniums had holes in the leaves and damaged flower buds and the tiny black spots. Never had that before so I think they came in with the plants from the box store. I even found a couple of the tiny green worms. So I sprayed with Captain Jacks and plucked off the damaged leaves . Now I'm watching closely. Yuk!
Yuck!!!!!! Try BT, it will take care of them so fast.
Very relaxing, fun and informative 😊
Thank you! I love geraniums!
Have a great day
I purchased a greenhouse last year in prep of semi retiring. This year, we need to firm it up and get the floor down. Can't wait to get back out there. Mother Nature is about to give us our third snowstorm this week. Really, Mr. Groundhog!!
Yikes! Well I’m excited for your new greenhouse! Enjoy!
I always take slips from all my colueus Plants plus get slips from other peoples plants in the fall. My kitchen is full of plants. also the beautiful leafed Bagonia's too. I love it too
The rain is so soothing. Love your greenhouse. I bring my geraniums inside during the winter and place in my south facing windows. They reward me with blooms and a little gardening therapy. Thanks for the tips, maybe I will start some little plants!
Love the sound of the rain. I have never used the water method to propagate geraniums. I've been successful just sticking the cuttings in potting mix and keeping them moist. I love the smell of geraniums too :)
I grew some Bullseye Salmon geraniums last year by seed and forgot to propagate it! So they are starting from seed again and I plan to propagate them this year. They are so beautiful!
Thank you for this video. I have tried to propagate my geranium and failed. You showed me how to do it the proper way. I can't wait to try again. Loved hearing the rain.
Rain or snow our gardens need them. After retirement I volunteered at Hershey Gardens beheading the roses. So much fun. 🌹🌹🌹
I live in zone eight and if I were to leave my potted geraniums out they would surely die. I put them in the garage to winter them over. Our winters tend to fluctuate between freezing temps and warmer days, so they do get to spend some time outside. It is a bit of a hassle to move them in and out but they are worth it, especially when you have a more unique variety.
Propagating is something I do with geraniums and house plants , red geraniums work the best for me, I have several patches of them throughout my yard , I also give some of the extras away to family and friends!
The propagation job sounds like a dream!
Be glad the rain wasn’t the snow we are getting in New England this weekend
It's actually soothing watching you propagate while listening to the rain 🌧 😊
Love the rain and love the way those geranium blooms pop right off. So satisfying to deadhead geraniums
The sound of the rain on the greenhouse is peaceful and soothing! ☔️🌧️💚
I’ve been killing multiple tea plants and eucalyptus because I can’t seem to get the watering schedule correct. After your video on Lola’s and tomatoes I decided to try using an olla. I think it’s working. I wanna give it another month but I think you helped me solve my dilemma.
Great! I’m so shocked at how well they work. My tomato’s are PERFECT
Oh my gosh. I did not know I could propagate geraniums. I am going to go to the garden center today and get started. Thanks, Janey.
Yay!
I love everything about geraniums. Beautiful plant. I love those propagation holders that you have too. The sound of heavy rain is the soundtrack to every British persons life. Great video Janey. Xxx
Hi Janey, your property is looking so good. Suggestion; why dont you move those tall plants in the green house that are being scorched to the end of your table???
Hey friend! I just propigated mine a few weeks back and had GREAT results! I used the soil method and also saw some bud worms on mine 😮 I love geraniums! Happy gardening!
Yay! So fun when propagations go well! 💗
Love love the ending ❤❤❤❤
Yep I cut my geraniums back and overwinter mine in their pots in my cold garage (not frozen). They do go dormant, and then start growing back in spring. But I've seen you can even take out of the pots and overwinter them in paper bags. Pretty crazy!
I always plant more from seed too, but maybe next year I'll propagate instead! 😊
ASMR propagation video. Loooove the rain!
Good morning, Janey☕️This video was perfect timing for me. I overwintered an Ivy Geranium and I cut it back and it’s growing like crazy so, now I know I can make cuttings! Thanks! BTW, love the sound of the rain vs the music. Have a Blessed Day 😊
Ay! The never ending to do list! I have one of those too! The sound of rain is so wonderful. We haven’t had rain in forever! I’d love to be in my greenhouse hearing it!
You can overwinter geraniums . Jes, has a RUclips channel and she does it every year. They come out beautifully.
Thanks for showing me this project!!! Loved hearing the rain. Great video❤
Am I crazy…but would love to take a nap in the greenhouse with that rain coming down…awww so relaxing!!😊
Really great video. Thank you for your efforts.
Oh Janey, that was so soothing to watch you in the greenhouse with the sound of the rain. Thank you! Question, do you know how you ended up with bud worm in the greenhouse in winter? Zone3 Manitoba ….Ps, your outtakes were great! 🇨🇦👏🥶
I think they came in with the plants at the end of the season. They sit and hide until we are unsuspecting then they attack! 😡😉
What about putting a Hartley ? I always learn something from you . Thanks for the heads up about the budworms on geraniums . I am planning on starting from seed .
Thank you Janey for this class on propagating geraniums, I have tried so many times but not I realize I did not keep the cuttings in the soil moist enough and never tried the water method because I didn't think it would work. Off to do some for me now. Yay
Great idea! Do you have a link for the tray with bottles?
YES, love the tray of bottles. Would love to know where to find.
It’s actually a home goods find from a few years ago!
@@DigPlantWaterRepeat ok thanks I'll keep looking😊
That is dedication girly, gardening in the rain! 😂 I love it! I’m always outside in the dark with a headlight on messing with my plants, spreading mulch or fertilizing. Gotta do what you can when you can right!
Your propagation station brought me great elation! 😀🇨🇦
Janey rain rain go away for Janey!❤😊❤
I really enjoyed the sound of the rain. Question: Could you use the corrugated clear plastic, like the greenhouse roof, to cover your potting area? It’s a fairly inexpensive option.
Great propagation video! I have a geranium (pelargonium) in a pot that I have neglected and it looks so sad. I think I'll go use it to propagate new plants since I love the color of the flowers. Thanks for the info and the inspiration. ❤M
In 5b Ontario Canada we can carry
Over our geraniums in the garage and replant next season!
Since you have seen bud work damage, should you spray the cuttings with BT. That way to ensure they propagate.
Thank you, and God bless 🙏
I love your smile. Communing with nature. Norma from Mendocino, CA
Informative video!! Liked the sound of the Rain - Grew up with sound of Rain on a Tin Roof!!
Your out takes we’re hilarious 😂. Get ready northern Cali. The rain is coming again this Thursday!!
i loved the video! your calathea in the greenhouse with the curled leaves is getting too much light. it is protecting itself from the excessive light in the greenhouse. it's a tropical plant better suited for a shady porch or indoors by a window 😊
I feel that never ending to do list too!!!
The ending of this video made me smile 😊. Thanks for another informative video, i am adding propagating geraniums to my to do list!
Really easy from seed too-I get mine from Swallowtail in Santa Rosa.
Hi Janey, glad to know about propagating NEVER knew you could do this with geraniums. I brought mine in for the winter. Now I know I can do this. Thank you. It'll save me lots of money. Love your little greenhouse. If I was to get one and set it up my taxes would go up. Ugh. Have a great day and the weekend send some of that rain our way. Thank you for this video. Oklahoma Panhandle Texas county 6B
😊👋🌿🌱
You could use a tarp or heavy plastic over your potting area until you get something more permanent.
I love you guys! I am hoping to move to your area one day!
Thanks for the tips!
Loved the sound of the rain as you were propagating. How long do the cuttings take to bloom after propagation? Thanks. Love your channel.
Love you Janey girl!
🤗
Morning
Morning 😊💐
Love the sound of the rain so relaxing 😊❤️💐
Have you considered putting the heater on the opposite wall above the entrance? Kind of like some stores do it. Might work for you?
I would love to have a green house, I need to do more research on keeping it cool in the 100 plus degrees in the summer.
Maybe consider installing a couple of clear (6 ft) corrugated PVC roof panels to cover your potting area. It would still let the light in but provide some shelter from the rain. ☔️
I’ve been learning so much from you! I’ve seen where you’ve grown Sweetpeas. I recently read that you can grow Sweetpeas in toilet paper rolls. Have you ever done this method?
Geraniums can be propagated like succulents…clippings stuck straight in the ground … doesn’t need to callous over Try it. 😊
I love geraniums so much! Sometimes they are difficult to find in any color but red & pink is my favorite color! They are such a cool weather plant here (Tx z9d, between Houston and Galveston) they don’t make it very much into June even. Have you ever grown them by seed? Considering that, maybe next year.
Not yet but I’d love to!
Hello from Vancouver island! I love the rain sound. We get a lot of rain here, but it has been pretty dry this year so far. Except for the snow we just recently received. Question for you, did you build your table that you are propagating on?
When you put out petunias should you spray them with BT before you see an infestation?
Depends on your climate and region. If you consistently get budworms every year like I do I would preemptively spray during the times when they are usually around. Otherwise you can just spray at first sign.
We'll take the natural watering any 'ol time but I need to film, too. HA !
I loved the rain! Will you be spraying the cuttings with BT?
Hello Janey!
Thank you so much for this video. My grandmother passed away from Covid 😢and I was able to have her red geranium plant. This is such a great idea to make more plants and share with my relatives. ❤
Did you plaint the tables in your greenhouse? If so what color and brand. Thank you and God bless you for sharing your knowledge and for your channel.😊
Oh that would be so sweet! I bet your family would love to have their own. The tables are just a black stain. Nothing special. 💗
Susan's In The Garden has a couple of good videos about over wintering geraniums
