Cobra Kai is an American martial arts comedy-drama streaming television series and a sequel to the Karate Kid's original movie directed by Robert Mark Kamen. The series was created by Josh Heeld, John Harwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, who repeated their roles as Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence in the 1984 movie The Karate Kid. Thirty-four years later, the Cobra Kai examines the story of "Miyagi Verse" from Johnny's point of view, his decision to reopen the Cobra Kai Karate Dojo, and the resurgence of his old competition with Daniel. The Cobra Kai also plays Courtney Henggeler, Xolo Mariduena, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser, Jacob Bertrand, Gianni Dechenzo, Martin Kove, Vanessa Rubio and Peyton List. This series boasts high ratings on both RUclips and Netflix and has received widespread positive reviews from critics. The third season was also nominated for an "Outstanding Comedy Series" at the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards. The first season started on RUclips Red in 2018 and the second season continued in 2019. After the production of the third season was completed, RUclips decided to stop producing the original scripted show and leave the show without a house. Netflix acquired the series in June 2020 and released the third season on January 1, 2021. Netflix expanded the series to the fourth season, released on December 31, 2021. The fourth season of the Cobra Kai was released on Netflix on December 31, 2021 and consists of 10 episodes. This series is a direct sequel to the four original films of The Karate Kid franchise, focusing on the characters of Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence, more than 30 years after the original film. Following the first two seasons on RUclips, Netflix will release the second season. There are 12 protagonists in the season, nine of which are back from the previous season, two are added to the main cast after being repeated in the previous season, and one is a newcomer to the series that repeats the role from the franchise. Samantha LaRusso is one of the main characters of Cobra Kai. She is the daughter of karate champion Daniel LaRusso and Amanda LaRusso. She becomes the second student in the newly reopened Miyagi-Do Karate, and goes on to be of the best students. However, following the West Valley High School karate war and her fight with Tory Nichols, Sam struggles with PTSD and is left conflicted over martial arts. She is able to overcome her fear and rebuild her confidence. After gaining experience in Eagle Fang Karate from Johnny Lawrence, she manages to balance the two styles, making her an even better fighter. Her skills and association with Daniel and Miyagi-Do earn her the karate alias, Bonsai Badass. Meanwhile, Tory Nichols is a main character in Cobra Kai. She has been described as a troubled teen who speaks her mind and is willing to fight anyone who angers her. Tory becomes a student at the newly reopened Cobra Kai Dojo. After falling victim to the merciless teachings of her sensei John Kreese, Tory becomes aggressive and vengeful, especially towards Samantha LaRusso. Following her expulsion for starting the school karate war, she forms a bond with Kreese. Through this bond, she becomes more ruthless and vengeful. She goes on to be one of Kreese's most corrupted students, with her karate skills earning her the nickname Queen Cobra.

I think Tory has every right to hate and to be pissed off at Sam, although it’s not an excuse for trying to murder her more than once. She just needs help with her anger.
I honestly think both are at wrong Tory clearly has anger issues and uncontrollable rage while Sam is also just insanely annoying and unlikable at times

Sam started all the problems between them but Tory sure as hell took it too far. She genuinely tried to kill Sam. Her hatred for others, however, is very understandable considering her story, while Sam being a prick is not as understandable.
I'd say Tory is a more flawed person in general, but her flaws have genuine reasons for them, whereas while Sam is less flawed then Tory, she could still be a much better person than she chooses to be. Tory is more flawed but more likeable, Sam is less flawed but extremely annoying.
@Tech Noir Spider-man Yeah, I totally agree with you, they make it seem like Sam = Good Tory = Bad, but I’m on Tory’s side tbh, she’s not a villain but instead an underdog trying to survive. Yes she was definitely in the wrong for breaking into Sam’s house and attacking her but she really doesn’t deserve all the hate, and I don’t even think Sam deserves it either and I’m not that much of a fan of her but I’m glad she puts aside her beef with Tory in season 5 after seeing how much Tory is struggling and teaming-up with her to take down Cobra Kai.

Tory didn't stop doing karate because she was on probation, it was because she didn't have the money for it anymore.
One thinks she deserves everything because of how she was raised and the other one thinks her actions are justified because of her situation in life.
I’d really like to hear the logic behind someone who would agree with the girl that cheated on her boyfriend started multiple unnecessary fight, and let her friend get his arm broken over a fight she started
Sam is just a douchebag throughout most of the show. She can only be called a villain in season 4.
I mean to be fair Tory could have also handled that better she could have fought her personally and have it be one on one instead of involving Robby and Miguel which btw caused Miguel to have his back broken also Tory as well started a fight in the Larusso house and nearly killed Sam, Cobra Kai also harassed Chris and it was a clear provocation from Cobra Kai so of course she is gonna fight for her friend

@@sarveshnathan7559 all of the drama between them to this point in the story, Sam is at the root of. Yes Tory is unhinged, but Sam is the catalyst for like 90% of all drama of the entire show. I could really see Sam becoming the big bad guy of the kids in the end, with Tory/Miguel/Roby/Hawk all being opposed to her.
As much as i love miguel the fact that the writers made miguel cheat on tory really made me sad
because this is a show which highlights gray areas of characters

i would say it’s equal. both are equally wrong but tory is more flawed. she tried to murder sam, she had every right to be upset yes, but no right to act the way she did. and sam had no right to accuse tory of stealing her moms wallet, list goes on. they’re both flawed people/characters and i’m excited to see how they are portrayed going forward.
Tory is right to hate Sam, but the way she handled it in seasons 2 and 3 made her the bad guy.
The thing that gets me with tory is while she was always rough around the edges it is made very clear that like Eli, the reason she acts the way she does is mainly due to cobra kai's influence. Which is shown is capable of corrupting anyone. The difference i guess is we are shown eli be a normal shy dude then bully then get redeemed. At first we didnt know too much about tory other than hints regarding her home situation and how that influenced her mentality but ultimately just made her more susceptible to the influence of cobra kai. That and of course her bond with kreese also makes her incredibly loyal to him. At this point though with kreese gone and her rivalry with sam almost non-existent from her perspective it makes it so much more likely that she will leave cobra kai or at least not subscribe to their mentality any longer. Robby is on a similar path and he is like her only real friend in cobra kai so I doubt there is anything that can pull her back unless Terry does some mind games or something. I believe the season 5 teasers show tory wearing the cobra kai sensei karategi so it makes me wonder where it will go from there. Btw if it isn't clear i am team tory.

To be honest Sam and Tory are the first hated characters to have a rivalry in the karate kid universe, Daniel and Johnny were rivals but everyone liked Daniel and others hated Johnny, Miguel and Robby are rivals but people like Miguel while others hate Robby and some do like Robby, Tory and Sam a lot of people hated those two in earlier seasons
After rewatching the series, I no longer ever hate Tory, but I loathe both of the Larusso kids now. Tory had a fall into darkness but is on a path to redemption. Sam is just annoying and always causing drama for nearly everybody.

@@Fancast100 i just finished season 2 of my rewatch...so currently at the only season with Tory so far. I had absolutely zero issues with Tory through season 2, it is season 3 when Tory becomes seen less favorably. Samantha on the other hand though, she is disliked from episode 1 of the entire series.
BTW, most actually liked Tory early on and more like her now after witnessing everything she goes through

I’m sorry but literally Sam is a hypocrite. And yeah Tory stole a bottle of vodka but let’s be real. They’re all under 18 and are drinking! So don’t give me that Tory is a bad guy when Sam literally does sneaky shit and none of the characters have room to talk when they are literally drowning in beer cans.
And yes Tory took it to far but how would you feel if you had nothing and had to take care of everyone? Then you meet someone who makes you forget all about your troubles only for his ex to kiss him. She shouldn’t have started a fight, she had genuine reasons. If you were in her shoes, you would have been pissed. Also they weren’t saying what Tory did was ok, their point was that she had reasons.

in my opinion, i like both sam and tory. i do think Sam can get annoying sometimes and tory can get a little bit overly aggressive. point being, they’re both good characters. i like how tory is fighting for what she believes is right and she protects her family. and i like how sam finally decided to come clean with tory sin the end of szn 5.

I like them both but I go with Sam. While she undoubtedly made plenty of mistakes the thing that kickstarted the rivalry her accusation wasn't done because Sam just felt like it, Tory had joked about how easy it was to steal things and said she could steal more and no one would notice. If I was in her place I could easily understand making the accusation. Also considering Sam's age I could understand not apologizing initially since Tory knocked her into the buffet even if it was over the line for Sam to grab at Tory's bag, they were both in the wrong. Regarding the roller rink, Tory is completely in the wrong there. Regarding kissing Miguel, Miguel is just as in the wrong potentially even more so since he had a totally clear head but everybody cuts him some slack since of what happened during the school fight. Sam and Tory are both in the wrong for the school fight Tory more so since you know she seemingly was aiming the spike bracelet for Sam's neck and at least wanted to disfigure her. Regarding this and the home invasion in Season 3, well its perfectly understandable as to why Sam was so unwilling to move on in Season 4 even if it was the wrong thing to do.

Sam didn't accuse Tory for "no reason". She had reason. Their first meeting is Tory admitting she swiped liquor from the bar. Then make a comment how easy it would to steal the silverware. So she accused Tory cuz she's a thief. Yeah Sam was 100% in the wrong for grabbing Tory but she definitely had good reason for suspecting Tory. Their rivalry started over misunderstanding.

@dhollins you must have forgotten that Sam falsely accused Tory about stealing her mom's wallet and never apologized after finding out it wasn't her...she held on to a preconceived image of Tory and was talking trash about her at the skating rink before Tory bumped into her. Sam was the one that came up with the idea to jump Cobra Kai at the arcade. Then Sam was also involved in the sprinkler idea against Cobra Kai. It was Sam that kissed Miguel, when he was dating Tory, and then still wouldn't come clean to anybody until Tory confronted Sam. It was Sam that got Tory fired from her job when Tory was just trying to make a living. Sam was the one that embarrassed Tory to the poont of her quitting her new job. Can't forget about when Tory tried to thank Sam for giving her a chance to come back to school and get her life back together, and Sam literally told Tory she was going to make her life hell. Tory was the one that tried to fight Sam fair and square at the tournament, yet Sam continued to hold animosity towards Tory. Sam and Miguel were the ones that attacked Robby and Tory at the school dance, not Tory. And it was Sam that attacked Tory when Tory came to confess what Silver had done. Yes Tory has a quick temper and needs to learn to control that, but Sam is the one who repeatedly is pushing Tory's buttons and antagonizing Tory...while Tory is the one that repeatedly extended the olive branch. Tory bumped Sam at the skating rink, Tory started the school fight, and Tory started the house fight...but literally every single other negative interaction between Tory and Sam was initiated by Sam. Sam is literally the worst character on the entire show, she has been the constant villain and everybody is better off without her...Robby, Miguel, Aisha, Tory, Moon, Hawk...I would have included Dimitri in people she has actually been good for, but then I remembered she was the catalyst and hapless bystander in his arm getting broken, so she isn't even good for him.
Tory wasn't trying to hurt Sam. Infact Sam was the one who was actually starting most of the fights including but not limited to getting demetris arm broken just because they "HuRt ThEiR FeElIngs 😭😭😭😭😭"

I gonna be honest the ONLY sensible person in this entire series is Amanda(Daniel's wife and Sam's mother) literally everyone else just acts so fast without thinking at all. And while Daniel always used to act quickly in anger even in the karate kid movies at that time he had mister Miyagi(best character in the whole series btw) and now he's forgotten everything mister Miyagi taught him.
My take of the Sam vs Tory rivalry in seasons 2 and 3:
Sam = Douchebag
Tory = Evil
In season 4:
Sam = Evil
Tory = Antivillain
I'm still Team Tory throughout the whole thing though...

I think it's almost impossible to say exactly who is wrong in this case, because they both are.
Obviously, in the beginning it was back and forth between who started it, and Tory taking it way too far. But in S4, Sam really was the biggest asshole for no reason. The show really tries to make Sam look like the good guy while Tory is the villain, when in reality it's almost flipped.
But even when Tory took it too far, I can necessarily say that she didn't have a reason for it. Same goes for Sam in S4, although she was starting things for no reason, it understandably is hard to forgive Tory so easily for her past actions.
So yeah, they're both wrong, at least in my opinion.

Tory is the epitome of there not being bad students, just bad teachers. Her life experiences temper this, harden her, and turn her cynical. I can relate to this. I'm approaching 50, and nothing for me has ever come easy. I had no one to intercede on my behalf when things went south. I had to depend on my ability to take care of issues. I'm not exactly innocent of hurting people who wronged me, either, sometimes more than just physically. Think is, I had a John Kreese in my life. I wouldn't have made it without his teachings, training and advice. I wasn't a martial arts student. I was trained to fight by a Vietnam Veteran Special Forces operative. He taught me hand to hand combat, knife fighting, small arms, and even handed down a few things to me that were for days when shit goes really sideways. In his judgment, fighting was not meant to show people who was the better person. It wasn't a way of peacocking or pecking order drama. If someone approached you with the compulsion to fight you, there was only victory through unconditional surrender. He trained me that in order to make people stay away from you required to fight, win, make that person submit, and then beat him down for good measure to serve as a cautionary tale on why you should stay away from me. Kick them while they are down, throw salt in the wounds, and spit in their face when it is finally over. It's odd, actually, that as a kid who was bullied, I never wanted to hurt anyone. Now, 40 years later, I just can't bring myself to caring what what those who don't care about me think. I can acknowledge that this is certainly not ideal, perhaps not healthy, but I'd choose it over being pushed around by anyone.

Sam was the one who started due to blaming Tory for stealing. But in Ashia was the one who painted a bad image of Sam to Tory just because Sam became friends with the popular girls and dumped Aisha. Both Sam and Miguel started dating Tory and Robby because they wanted their exes back. Sam due to being drunk did move in to kiss Miguel which cause the school fight. Even though Tory had a right to be anger started the school fight wasn’t wise. Even though Sam was the one to who cause the rival due to kissing Miguel. Tory could’ve had handled it in a better way than almost killing Sam at the school. Both Sam and Tory made their fair share in the rivalry but hopefully they both cause get past their issues and learn to get along. Tory was getting softer in season 4 thanks to Amanda but Sam was getting more intense with Tory( thanks to Johnny’s teacher) hopefully in the upcoming season Tori and Sam can start to be friends if Daniel and Johnny can be friends after 30 years of bickering with one another hopefully Sam and Tory can too

I do think Sam will go dark in Season 5 but not in an evil way. She's going to build a mental wall around her soul and isolate herself from everyone and everything she every cared about. Given that there is what seems to be a dream sequence with Sam in the season 5 trailer I think Sam will go through a huge depression and self doubt period in Season five and that sequence will be Sam owning up to all her mistakes that lead her to that point. Tory on the other hand is on a serious redemption path also judging by seeing her in the season 5 trailer Tory's frozen heart is starting to thaw, and while she won't do it right away she is going to eventually abandon Cobra Kai and through out the season wave a flag of truce at Sam, which given Sam's mental state Sam will constantly rip in front of Tory's face.
Now that Season 5 comes along. The answer for yes but also no.
Tory and Sam are my favorite in Cobra Kai

This is kind of controversial, but a much deeper analysis would probably delve into the fact that:
- Tory represents the left-wing mentality, hardened from a lower and impoverished class, into modernity and complicated pragmatism, the masculine and tough type of girl. Cobra Kai.
- Sam represents the right-wing mentality, sheltered, from high class and wealth, into tradition and simplistic morality, the soft and gentle kind of girl. Miyagi-Do.
That is why most liberal fans generally love and defend Tory, and most conservative fans generally love and defend Sam.

TYLERN: I this was a very interesting video. I personally don’t think that either of them are 100% in the right and either of them are 100% in the wrong. This show is all about the grey area and the rivalries in this show are smack dab in the middle. It’s just like Ali said at the end of season 3 everyone thinks that there’s only one side of the and there’s not there’s three: there’s one, there’s another side and then there’s the truth. Basically what that means is is it all depends on who is telling the story and how it’s being perceived from that point of view. Perspective plays such an important role that we don’t even know it until it’s revealed right before our very eyes. In regards to Sam and Tory’s rivalry I chose to look at this way: Season 2 we weren’t really getting much perspective from either of them, other then them not liking each other and knocking each other down and them being caught in a love rectangle I mean if anything we were still just getting only Miguel’s and Robby’s perspective through the whole thing. Season 3 all the love drama got taken to a backseat and we were finally getting to see Sam LaRusso in a different light as if we were getting actually introduced to her character for the first time in the show because we were seeing things from her perspective and that’s why whenever Tory showed up she was perceived the way that she was perceived, so that we would root for Sam when we needed too. Season 4 was the same thing where we felt like we were being introduced to Tory’s character for the time due to her character being shown in a different light because were seeing things from her perspective this time around and that’s why whenever her and Sam crossed paths that Sam wasn’t in the best light because this was through Tory’s eyes and we were given a reason to root for her this season when we needed too. That’s just how I perceived them, I mean everyone has there own opinions on the matter and this is just what I think.

A major flaw in most of these comments and even in the video is that you guys are saying that Sam kissed Miguel. 1. It was mutual and 2. Even if Sam did lean in first, Miguel stayed there and therefore should be considered just as guilty for cheating on Tory. So Tory should be mad at Miguel just as much if not more tbh

I imagine Tory joining Miyagi and independent of the other students. But Hawk and Demetri don’t hate along with Sam. Then Kyler jumped Demetri which upset Hawk and secretly Tory. She then starts training in Cobra Kai to counteract them. And they become good friends. Hawk see this assumed that Tory is trying steal his binary brother, which causes him to be more as Sam’s side. Then something, where Hawk gets saved Demetri and Tory from Cobra Kai, Hawk decided to give Tory a chance and they become friends pushing Sam back.
It's less about who was right since they've both been on the wrong end, and moreso who had better reasons to be wrong in said circumstances.
- Tory was the one who left Sam with the impression she was a thief. When something goes missing, your suspect would naturally be the known thief. And confronting tory directly is the best thing sam could've done for her, as reporting her suspicions to security, letting them know tory stole from their expensive drinks and was drinking underage, would have made a bigger problem for tory.
- Tory attacks sam at the rollerskating, Sam returned the favour and got punished.
- Miguel had a bigger responsibility regarding the kiss since he was actually sober where Sam was wasted. Did tory go crazy and try to maim him? No. She instead went after the girl she knew Miguel hadn't gotten over in the first place when she pushed herself on him.
- Tory breaks into Sam's house unprovoked and once again attempts to harm Sam...
Long story short for everytime Sam did something wrong, tory was more wrong
Okay two points. Maybe Sam doubting Tory is justified, but what isn't justified is that after Sam finds out that Tory didn't steal the wallet, she should've apologised for accusing her, but she did'nt. And second, are you seriously implying that Miguel had no say in dating Tory? If his feelings for Sam were so strong, he could've just said no to Tory. Its just as much his decision as it was for Tory to make the move. And I really don't see anything wrong with that, they were both single.

If you know someone is a thief and understandably accuse them of a theft, them not being the culprit that time, doesn't mean you owe them an apology for thinking they are a thief stole. You just caught the wrong thief. Notice how that scene was paralleled with Robbie also immediately thinking if the thieves he knew when he learnt the purse was missing.. are you going to say ribby should have apologised to those assholes if they hadn't indeed stole said purse lol?
Sam's worst act in that particular scenario was escalating the situation and trying to grab tori's bag without proof, and she deservedly got knocked into a food tray. Sam doesn't owe tory an apology for thinking she stole something however.. that was how tory presented herself.
Secondly, you're not saying anything that effects what I pointed out. Tory DID go after Miguel knowing he was still head over heels over his ex, and then went crazy when he cheated on her with said girl. Even though she could've avoided that situation entirely.
Miguel is not innocent, no. But tory was the one who put herself in that situation despite her awareness of his feelings.
I don't see how those two instances are at all comperable. Robbie had known them personally for a long time and had already had their falling out. Sam had literally just met Tory like, what, a half an hour ago. And stealing ONE vodka bottle from rich people beach club is not at all the same as taking somebodys wallet, the level of seriousness is just totally different. And I understand that Sam could'nt trust Torys word, but even Aisha said that she did'nt do it so why could'nt Sam had trusted her "supposed" best friend (who you can apparently completely abandon in favor of being popular and excpet her to come running when you need her to)? Everyone always says that Tory needs to learn de-escalation when in actuality its Sam who needs it. Had some apology been given and Tory had still acted the way she had, her actions would have totally been inexcusable. And technically Sam was the one who started the hostility in both werbally AND physically.

Yes she was. She was right to start that brawl. Nobody asks Robby and Miguel to bring themselves into this. Regardless Miguel is the fault in to getting his back broken. I’ve not always been sams biggest fan and While I agree with you Sam maybe provoked Tory, I don’t think it’s fair to say Tory’s reactions were justified yes she kissed Miguel and I think Sam deserved maybe a small beating but having her face torn off and scars? Also after finding out Sam and Miguel got back together so she breaks into her house and beat her with a deadly weapon? And yes Sam did falsely accuse her of stealing a wallet but that’s because not only did she steal the bottle of vodka she gloated about it. If Tory is going to have a redemption arc I think she needs to learn how to defuse a situation rather than escalate it
