You have a couple of options. You don't need the digital AV output to use this cable first of all, just want to make sure that you know that. Level hike has a similar cable to this, as does pound technologies. Out of all three of them, I would rate the level hike as being probably the best looking, but they're all pretty similar to be honest. What you could do is get a retrotink 2x classic with an S-Video output, that would actually look really good with your setup
Hi, quick question, was thinking of ordering one of these, but rite now, I've got my N64 to AV cables connected to my AV to HDMI Converter. Then, my HDMI finishes the connection..... Now when im playing my Goldeneye 007 game, its blurry, & extremely dark in alot of areas in the levels of the game, making it very hard to see alot of both details, & also hidden objects, armour, guns, ammo, even the boxes are hard to see at times. Ive tinkered with my Hisense Roku Smart TV picture settings, tried game mode, without game mode. Ive adjusted the lighting, I've tried the few picture settings within the game, as well, but cant seem to fix this really dark backround situation, when attempting to play this game. I'm not sure why it seems like Goldeneye 007 seems to be very dark on newer TV's, & I cant figure out the best answer to this issue. Im strongly thinking about this Hyperlink, because I dont even have a Expansion Pack yet, I literally just got this system a week or two ago. And I went out and grabbed the AV to HDMI CONVERTER, at Walmart, and have my original N64 cords (AV) plugged into the converter, & then the HDMI connected to the TV. But everytime I play Goldeneye 007, I can barely see anything at all both between the blurriness, & the extremely dark backround, & darkness of the game. Which I don't remember it being this dark at all, when we all would play after school, 4 player, multiplayer Goldeneye 007 back in the day... Lol.... So I'm asking if this will allow me to play Goldeneye 007 without being able to see anything at all, due to very dark picture, & even darker backgrounds when playing. Thanks, great video, your appreciated 👍🙏😎🎮
My favorite Nintendo console now is the SNES, though I didn’t have one as a kid. The NES will always have a special place in my heart, as that’s what I had as a kid.
I really wish Hyperkin would tweak their color palette. It's the same with their other cables and their clone consoles. If they'd just fix it to be more accurate this would be a great budget solution.
If you're only using it for Gamecube and N64, it might be worth it as both those systems, at least in North America, can only output s-video without mods. This 3-in-one taps into the s-video to HDMI, not component or RGB. So if you want best picture for SNES, get something like the Pound SNES HDMI upscaler, which taps into the SNES built in RGB out.
Personally would recommend the rad2x. Its plug and play, no extra cables required, no external power requirements (except for playstation) and supports more systems. Plus an uncompromised image with zero lag. Obviously this is cheaper but you get what you pay for.
Oh i know, im just pointing it out as alternative for others besides the more expensive options like the ossc, framemeister etc. All of which need expensive cables too.
I recently bought a hyperkin cable for the nintendo wii, very impressedby the picture quality, sound, and colors. I think they make solid cables overall, and my wii is modded with 8 and 16 bit games
@@RoXolid yup :) you got it rox, ive had this system for yrs now. Those sega genesis, nes, and super nes games still look, and play perfectly. Uses dev kit pro as well, very easy to set up any nintendo controller
You should do a vid using those hyperkin cables for the wii, i ll tell ya dude, smash bros brawl looks pretty damn good. Very crisp and clear, good color and sound to. And no lag at all
@@derekbuckler3859 I actually want to do the HDMI Mod on my one system. I bought a 2nd Wii back in September just for that purpose. Just, cash is tight right now...
Definitely the SNES is number one for me. I have a Super NT and Gamecube (with Carby) always connected to the TV. So many great games on both those systems.
Nes and Snes are my favorites, cause I started playing games in the early 90s, about the HDMI cable, there is another one Hyperkin made, the pro version, it has a little button that let's you switch to 4 different visuals, the hdmi cable is not attached either,so you can use whatever hdmi cable you want, and you don't need the power phone charger cable, so far that's my favorite hdmi adaptor for the Snes/N64/Gamecube, especially the green light visual option.
@@RoXolid it's called "3-in-1 HDTV Cable Pro Edition" comes in a Gold White and Black box. Initially I bought a 64 to HDMI adaptor, but I think my composite hook looks better than that, which is bad, then I had then option of buying the wire you are showing here by Hyperkin or the Pro Edition at the store, I went for the one you are showing which, First it's 30 dollars, the Pro edition is $50, then, I started thinking that maybe cause you have the option of switching HDMI cables is the reason they are charging 20 extra, but then I went home research the pro edition, I saw that it has 4 different visuals. I only played my Snes with both wires (Super Mario World/Megaman X and Castlevania Dracula X games I tried), 30 dollar one is not bad, it's just that the background image in games has some distortion, and that didn't do it for me, the Pro edition its not perfect, but I didn't feel no lag, and the image is good enough for me not to spend hundreds in super awesome visual looking cables.
Thank you for this video, have my original GameCube and my wife and I have been wanting to play some of the game we played when we were younger and show each other some that the other hasn't played yet and this definitely seems to be a good and affordable option until I get the eon mk2 that is. Thanks again!
You're very welcome Mark! And yes, to get up and playing, ok option, but there are vastly superior options out there. If you have other consoles too you might want to consider a RetroTink and Insurrection Industries Carby Component video cables, it looks awesome! Plus you can use the RetroTink on additional systems too.
Bob from Retro RGB claims that the Hyperkin is terrible and no better than adapters like the "pound" cable, which I was a bit surprised by, as my own experience with the Hyperkin has been positive, and I have also used a RAD2X with an RGB signal (from an RGB modded N64) for comparison, and while it is better, I haven't found it to be so much better that I feel like I couldn't enjoy playing games using the Hyperkin (though I still have no reason to use the Hyperkin adapter anymore other than to do more testing out of pure interest, and a desire to help provide useful information to others). I haven't noticed any obvious difference in latency either, though I suspect that there is still a somewhat significant difference. The RAD2X basically adds virtually no latency at all, just like other Retrotink based products. Maybe some games or some different systems would see a bigger difference in quality between using a Hyperkin and using a RAD2X. Also, maybe the difference in quality would be more noticeable on different TVs.
thanks! I dig this video and appreciate you acknowledging this is best for people who won't/can't spend hundreds on pristine perfect conversion (like me!) I just wanna play my SNES and GCN easily and affordably. Will do some more research but might get one!
Does The Audio Fading Issue occur constantly? I was thinking on buying this conversor for one of my LED TVs, but this issue is the only one that's holding me back.
If nothing else, it seems like an acceptable backup solution. I’ve seen this cable in action at a few Pokémon events, and it seems okay. I did see some interference patterns in bright colors on the GameCube, but that may have been a problem specific to the convention center power wiring or whatever.
@@RoXolid You should be getting the prompt with the gchd because it is using the digital out port which you would be using if you had component cables. Pretty sure the hyperkin cable uses the analog video port for svideo hence no progressive scan support
I think I mentioned this before, but I have the Rad2x for the SNES, but my capture card doesn’t recognize the signal. I never owned a Nintendo 64. I have a GameCube, and the official component cables I bought back when they were priced only at _double digits._ I might consider this, but I’m still thinking of getting a SOAC just for the extra convenience of also playing my original NES carts
It's my mic/RF noise in the room I film in. Normally the background music covers it, it didn't in this one. I have a Cell/Radio tower about 100 yards behind my house and it creates a lot of RF noise. Speakers sometimes have audio from radio stations without even having them on, it can be quite startling.
I appreciate it. The worst is, since going to these wireless mics, sometimes the RF noise interrupts the signal between the transmitter & receiver and I lose a few seconds of audio all-together. Happened once in this video, hard to cover up sometimes and very frustrating. #IWantToMOVE!
RoXolid Productions if the interference is consistent, you can probably eliminate it using a notch filter. If you export the audio and open it in Audacity, you can use the frequency analysis window to pinpoint the frequency. Also works great for 15khz hum from CRTs, certain lighting types, etc.. You should still mention it if it’s present in the captured game footage, though for a review like this.
@@RoXolid 576i, but also in 480i. It has nothing to do with the resolution. The issue is that it uses the s-video support NTSC consoles have. The PAL version dont support S-Video, but RGB output instead. But sadly this cable can only use the S-Video functionality, which the PAL consoles lack.
Great video, I can't afford a better one, they are really expensive so iIwas thinking on getting one of these. Would you say it's waaaay better than composite in a modern TV? I almost started crying when I tried to play OoT and everything looked awful. Thank you!
I haven't tested that one so this is just a guess based on past experience. I have found the Pound and Hyperkin cables to be almost identical, but the Pound cables (I think) tend to be darker. One is darker than the other slightly.
I don't have a direct favorite maybe the GameCube for being able to play Ported N64 games, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, and it's own games. With the N64 I had the most games for this, also I went from that to the Xbox, then to the 360, PS3, Wii, then NGC. I still had the Snes and played my Super Star Wars games. I'm sure I played the N64 the most.
I have the hyperkin cable, the colors are very off and mine has problems and sometimes the colors switch to black and white. Yeah I'm switching to the EON 64 and the EON GC eventually.....
nice looking solution. just wish someone would come up with a way to make superscope games work on hdtvs which is one reason my original snes is connected to a crt
Hello, I have a question. I'm planning on RGB mod my N64, so does the cable take the RGB signal or is it upscaling the composite output? It wasn't specified in the video.
If you're going to RGB mod your system you don't want this, you'll want to go with either HD Retrovision Component cables or Insurrection Industries SCART cables. This grabs either the composite or S Video signal, I forget which, but an RGB mod does not affect this cable's performance.
@@mojon121 And while it wasn't available at the time this video first came out, the RAD2X (Nintendo version) has probably become the best option, unless it's not versatile enough for what you need, in which case the Retrotink 2X Classic (if you can find one), or Retrotink 2X Pro are likely your best bets (you'll need a component cable in addition to the Retrotink adapter).
N64 has S-video built in, no modding needed for that. The RGB mod for it wouldnt have any impact on that. The cable probably works through the s-video connection like the Eon Super 64
I did that, it's.. it's ok for what it is. If you're going to invest in an MCable or mClassic, just get a Carby, Prism, or RGB mod your SNES or N64 and use HD Retrovision Component cables. It'll look cleaner and sharper IMO.
I have just started using this and the problem I'm running into is that the audio is extremely low. That's not faded over time, that is right out of the box. The hum on my TV when the console is running through it is louder than the music. Has anyone else gotten this problem? Is this something I can fix? This is running sound both out of the TV itself and out of a soundbar connected to the TV.
Was gonna get Prism cause I heard is great for using the GameCube for new TVs but unfortunately my GameCube isn't the model that have digital output so I was outta luck until I knew that the Hyperkin doesn't need it to hook on modern TVs. Really missed playing some games like Luigi's Mansion and Gauntket Dark Legacy. Would you recommend it to anyone who don't own a specific GameCube model?
Quick question. I have a modern TV Sony X900h 65" to be specific. I'm not asking for improve color to match the TV..just wondering if the cable would work via HDMI and USB. Do I need both cables hooked? I have a N64
Idk I just got one for my GameCube and it’s just so blurry. Idk if that’s actually how the graphic looked and as a kid I thought they where better? Or it’s making it blurry?
Hey curious to know if anyone has this.. I need to know the length from the middle block to the end of the HDMI.. I need the HDMI side to be 5 ft as I will be running it through a cable management system. Thx
The SNES Jr does not support anything other than composite out of the box. I inquired for somebody with Hyperkin directly and it is not (natively) supported with this cable.
I understand that, however this having an RGB mod I would figure it would have worked. That tells me the cable probably ties into s video which I do not have hooked up
gamecube needs componet for 480p of course this dose not ask for progressive scan its S-Video you answered that when you hooked it up to you RGB modded system right?
So it looks like the unit only upscales S-Video only. The SNES Jr does not output S-video without a mod. It is easy to do especially if you have the Voultar RGB chip, just 2 more wires to solder in. the N64 and the Gamecube have S-Video natively enabled.
That's what I thought, but if that's the case why would the N64 work since I don't have the S-Video soldered up in the Voultar RGB mod? And in the SNES Jr it's only 1 wire to connect the S-video, not 2.
@@RoXolid it may be just one. Been a while since I looked at the chip. Thought there would be two for luma and chroma. Also the N64 has S-video unmodded.
Hello I have a question I bought with you in your online store the adapter for HDMI of the LEVELHIKE brand that is compatible with the SNES, N64, NGC, and it works very well for me but with the SNES Jr it does not work for me you know why that does not work.
I haven't used the Levelhike cables, but if it taps into the S-Video that would make sense why it doesn't work with the SNES Jr. The SNES Jr. only outputs Composite natively, you have to mod it to get access to the S-Video.
I have the Pound Cables and for the price and convenience it's a steal. I don't use it anymore because I am using RetroTink or Analogue and Retro USB consoles. Yes, I have become a quality hog these days.
Do the hdi cable work with the mini sns and on . Mine has the old 2 plug and on the back of the system it's like a phone changer end all. Just wondering if the hdm hype has the end . Idk
Ok, if you're going to run a flash cart with roms on a clone system, why wouldn't you just use a RetroPi? Those have HDMI built in and you won't need to worry about this. Or get an HDMI clone and be done with it. Actually, now that I think of it, Clone systems don't even use the Nintendo Multi-Output! Please tell me you're trolling me.
@@RoXolid Gary, I played my Super Famicom with HD Retrovision cables and RetroTINK 2X last night for hours. I have the Super Nt and the Mega Sg from Analogue, but I really do enjoy original consoles.
@@RoXolid I do like the sharpness of the Analogue consoles, but it feels more authentic to use the component cables. I even use the cables on my CRT and it looks great that way too.
Mhhhh may not work with some PAL consoles. You have any additional infos on that? :0 Edit: Ok found out something at least on limited run: PAL Gamecube and SNES Jr game consoles are not compatible due to no S-Video output. BUT it still says: May not work with some PAL consoles So I wonder if there ist more to it?!
I gotta question. When I use this hyperkin cable, it messes up the widescreen settings. Anything I can do about that? When I set it to 4:3 mode it actually fills the screen more than 16:9. Strange. I have a 4K teli. The wii2hdmi doesn’t do this but I’m sure this product looks better than thay
@@RoXolid I’m sorry, I forgot to mention that I was using the Wii hyperkin cable, which this video isn’t even about 😂! But yeah with the Wii hyperkin cable, it squishes the picture in 16:9 mode and actually is wider when set to 4:3! It’s strange and a shame because it was like 30 bucks. I have an mclassic and I’m looking for the best possible picture out of my regular Wii.
Intressting would be the inside if it is the same like the other same products from china. When yes then it is not good. The China devices use only the red, white and yellow output. The Chinese version works with pal systems and with rgb mods. But Chinese and sd our Hyperkin cable lack of color
Not at all. I have 2 un-modded N64s and the results are identical to a modded, here's why. The cables doesn't touch the RGB output, it taps into the S-Video which the mod had nothing to do with and is available to access stock. This is also why it will not work on the SNES JR, I don't have S-Video wired up with that mod. I hope this makes sense
@@RoXolid I need to get my hands on a Top Loader... All I have are these dang Front loaders... I have replaced the 72 pin connector in all 3 of them though lol
If you haven't done so yet, get a Blinking Light Win, you'll never replace a 72-pin connector again. I have a video on it on the channel from the 1st year if you want to check it out.
My recommendation would be to either get a Retrotink Mini or get a PS2, HD Retrovision Component cables and a RetroTink Multi-format. Just know there's only so much you can do for the PS1
For a budget consumer just looking to get back into gaming, it isn't a bad place to start. Definitely better than composite and those AV2HDMI boxes, but not as good as component, RetroTinks, or OSSCs
Mcbazel HDMI converters plug into the TV plug into the GameCube and plug into USB power supply when turning on GameCube and just no signal not worth buying just don't work from Amazon 21 pounds
Agreed. Those idiots make 2-in-1 AC adapters for the SNES and Genesis that could quite literally burn someone's house down simply because they do not supply enough current to run either console without the risk of overheating and shorting out. The SNES needs 10 volts, DC @ 850mA, for crying out loud. What I just mentioned only outputs 9 volts @ 680mA! Seriously! Is 10 volts DC seriously that hard to come across these days?

@@RoXolid You should be getting the prompt with the gchd because it is using the digital out port which you would be using if you had component cables. Pretty sure the hyperkin cable uses the analog video port for svideo hence no progressive scan support
@@ians_parks Good to know!
I prefer GameCube due to the fact that my favorite games are on there such as Ocarina of Time Wind Waker Azura's mask and Luigi's Mansion.
I think I mentioned this before, but I have the Rad2x for the SNES, but my capture card doesn’t recognize the signal.
I never owned a Nintendo 64. I have a GameCube, and the official component cables I bought back when they were priced only at _double digits._
I might consider this, but I’m still thinking of getting a SOAC just for the extra convenience of also playing my original NES carts
Yeah, and I don't remember what card you said you had but you did mention it. Hauppenge or something?
RoXolid Productions close enough. The “HD PVR Rocket” is the model name. Hauppauge is the brand name
@@IanNewYashaTheFinalAct that's right
theres some sorta audio buzz in this vid
It's my mic/RF noise in the room I film in. Normally the background music covers it, it didn't in this one. I have a Cell/Radio tower about 100 yards behind my house and it creates a lot of RF noise. Speakers sometimes have audio from radio stations without even having them on, it can be quite startling.
@@RoXolid Dang, either way great work I've been watching alot of your stuff recently
I wish I could use it but Hyperkin at least says it only works with non-PAL Gamecubes, not even with a DOL 001 PAL GC.
Correct, because I believe a pal GameCube displays at like 596 p or something like that
@@RoXolid 576i, but also in 480i.
It has nothing to do with the resolution.
The issue is that it uses the s-video support NTSC consoles have. The PAL version dont support S-Video, but RGB output instead. But sadly this cable can only use the S-Video functionality, which the PAL consoles lack.
Ah, ok!
As long as I have a CRT TV I'm good.
Good! I don't like CRTs and never want to own another but I know there are many passionate about keeping it real!
Lol.. I own 3. two toshiba af's and a 13" Sony Trinitron KV-13FS100
@@MrMassivemanmeat That's awesome!
Great video, I can't afford a better one, they are really expensive so iIwas thinking on getting one of these. Would you say it's waaaay better than composite in a modern TV? I almost started crying when I tried to play OoT and everything looked awful. Thank you!
Way better? No. A little better, marginally. I just got the Levelhike Cable from Stone Age Gamer I'm going to be reviewing soon, stay tuned!
How does this compare to the Pound version, in your opinion?
1. SNES
2.Gamecube
3. N64
Completely understood. And once you do get the GCHD & Super64 your going to love them.
The red tints in DKC looks just wrong, imho
Agreed, the colors are very soft
Its cause they are wrong
My favorite is the Nintendo Lunch Box
Can you please check for me and see if this adapter works with the GBA attachment for GameCube to HDMI?? 😊 Thanks
nice looking solution. just wish someone would come up with a way to make superscope games work on hdtvs which is one reason my original snes is connected to a crt
I'd love to play superscope again!
@@RoXolid I have mine right nest to my snes hooked up. Played some with my kids just a couple weeks ago
@@justinwrenn5521 Yeah, but for those of us who don't own or care for CRTs it's just not an option
@@RoXolid kinda surprised there hasn't been a third party light gun with tech needed to work on hdtvs
Also is the hd cable upscaling the n64 or tapping into the s video signal?
Hello, I have a question. I'm planning on RGB mod my N64, so does the cable take the RGB signal or is it upscaling the composite output? It wasn't specified in the video.
If you're going to RGB mod your system you don't want this, you'll want to go with either HD Retrovision Component cables or Insurrection Industries SCART cables. This grabs either the composite or S Video signal, I forget which, but an RGB mod does not affect this cable's performance.
@@RoXolid Thanks
@@mojon121 And while it wasn't available at the time this video first came out, the RAD2X (Nintendo version) has probably become the best option, unless it's not versatile enough for what you need, in which case the Retrotink 2X Classic (if you can find one), or Retrotink 2X Pro are likely your best bets (you'll need a component cable in addition to the Retrotink adapter).
A question do you need to have cable TV. Because I have the cables to the TV. But I can't play I can't see it in the TV.
no, simply connect one end of the cable to your game system and the other end to your TV, select the right input on your TV and you're good to go
Im seriously considering buying this for use with my N64 and GC. I am assuming you can use a cell phone charger power adapter to power this baby?
Josh Martimez I would like to know this as well. Have you tried using this?
Did you take apart the n64 av connector part of the hdmi cable and see which pins are connected?
HDTV with AV and component still exist nowdays
It does, however an HDMI cable with a single connection can be a lot more convenient for people
N64 has S-video built in, no modding needed for that. The RGB mod for it wouldnt have any impact on that. The cable probably works through the s-video connection like the Eon Super 64
But you have to solder up S-Video on the board, and I don't recall doing that. I need to crack my system open
RoXolid Productions easiest way to test would be to use an S-Video cable directly.
I can only imagine what this baby would look like if you plugged it to a hdmi splitter and put the other end to an mcable/mclassic
I did that, it's.. it's ok for what it is. If you're going to invest in an MCable or mClassic, just get a Carby, Prism, or RGB mod your SNES or N64 and use HD Retrovision Component cables. It'll look cleaner and sharper IMO.
@@RoXolid I see, I currently already own an mcable myself (I got it as a Christmas gift) and was getting curious
Nice video mate! Question... Does it work with EU PAL devices?
I think so but not 100% sure. Reach out to Hyperkin, they'll confirm one way or another.
Honestly I'd just suggest buying one with the Digital output
HEllo Compatible for Famicom AV ??
Not sure as I don't have one to test
@@RoXolid it would be great if you did, a test
Agreed, but like it say I just don't own one
Does the GameCube play in wide screen or did it stay in 4:3 mode?
Depends on the game. Whatever the native output is what this does
Do 1chip snes systems output better picture through this cable than 2chip? And is the test system in this video 1chip or 2chip?
Quick question.
I have a modern TV Sony X900h 65" to be specific.
I'm not asking for improve color to match the TV..just wondering if the cable would work via HDMI and USB. Do I need both cables hooked? I have a N64
You MIGHT need both, without testing myself I am not sure. You can power it from the TV though.
Idk I just got one for my GameCube and it’s just so blurry. Idk if that’s actually how the graphic looked and as a kid I thought they where better? Or it’s making it blurry?
It should look similar to S-Video, but won't look as good as the HDMI adapters or component video cables
@@RoXolid yeah back then I guess I thought it looked better then it did lol
Hey curious to know if anyone has this.. I need to know the length from the middle block to the end of the HDMI.. I need the HDMI side to be 5 ft as I will be running it through a cable management system. Thx
That's about the entire length, I don't think this will work for your application
The SNES Jr does not support anything other than composite out of the box. I inquired for somebody with Hyperkin directly and it is not (natively) supported with this cable.
I understand that, however this having an RGB mod I would figure it would have worked. That tells me the cable probably ties into s video which I do not have hooked up
@@RoXolid It does.
gamecube needs componet for 480p of course this dose not ask for progressive scan its S-Video you answered that when you hooked it up to you RGB modded system right?
My Gamecube isn't RGB Modded, not sure which system you're referring to?
I just bought this today, this won't take any power away from the GameCube will it?
You're supposed to solder from R16 to the S-Video port on the mod board. Maybe I did wire this? I'll have to look again I guess
All n64's output s-video with no mod required.
Understood, but you're supposed to wire up S-Video if you use Voultar's mod.

Will this work using a snes flash cartridge with SNES roms running on a clone snes console?
Ok, if you're going to run a flash cart with roms on a clone system, why wouldn't you just use a RetroPi? Those have HDMI built in and you won't need to worry about this. Or get an HDMI clone and be done with it. Actually, now that I think of it, Clone systems don't even use the Nintendo Multi-Output! Please tell me you're trolling me.

The addition of the cable? Sorry I don't understand.

The Chinese version works with pal systems and with rgb mods.

You really should have found a way to borrow an unmodded N64 because it makes your test footage pretty useless to anyone who has an unmodded console.
Not at all. I have 2 un-modded N64s and the results are identical to a modded, here's why. The cables doesn't touch the RGB output, it taps into the S-Video which the mod had nothing to do with and is available to access stock.
