- I have always loved the way a sketch looks before it becomes a more elaborate fabric design. I love to be able to see the thought process, the notes, eraser marks and original ideas that eventually become the artwork we love. The Linework fabric collection is my thought process on cloth. My notes and thoughts are printed directly on the cloth. It’s like a peek behind the veil, like a tour of my mind.
Color can be so distracting when looking at the work itself. This was my best attempt to narrow myself down to two crucial elements: Black and White. My main black and white prints focus on animals that live in this range; Zebras, Pandas, Lemurs, Albino Peacocks, and of course a skunk. While I tried my very best to produce these animals in their flawless black and white state, the color crept in. I couldn’t help myself. Every print has a subtle ombre of background color that repeats at least twice from selvage to selvage so every fat quarter will contain a full spectrum of color!
In addition to the 6 main focal prints I have rounded out the collection with black and white versions of a few of the True Colors prints. All of the colors present in the prints are pulled from the colors in my core True Colors fabrics. It is all designed to go together, each providing what the other needs. I literally have been re-watching your videos on Fat Quarter Shop because right now your logical but creative way of communicating makes sense in this crazy world. The EPP videos are GOLD as your advice can be applied across your entire life. I especially identify with not wasting time doing stuff unless it makes it BETTER. I have an adult son with cerebral Pasly who is also an artist. He just created a poster-sized drawing of the ballerina in The Nut Cracker but put her in a wheelchair. It is awesome! I, for one, would love to see more disability icons like wheelchairs in gorgeous fabric. My son will draw the top half of a person and then just a circle on the bottom to indicate a wheelchair user.
I am an older quilter and more traditional. However, I am in awe of your talent as an artist. I have fallen in love with this line and intend to order the quilt kit and some precuts. I adore your true colors and ombre fabrics. You have taken me out of my comfort zone, design wise and I'm really enjoying it. I was so relieved to hear that the quilt isn't too difficult. Although I have quilted for over 30 years, I enjoy patterns that are not too complicated....at 71, my eyes and patience are not what they once were... Thank you for sharing you amazing gift with us.

Late to the party! - beautiful designs, the pops of colour are genius - I left my usual Land of Twee, entered the world of Tula & just made the Layer Cake Loop lap quilt with them & it looks amazing- the quality of the fabric is wonderful, I can't stop smiling. Thank you❤.

Your Lemar fabric reminds me of the painting pages we had as kids. You painted with a brush and water and the colours showed up....love them....love you and your designs

I love this. I've been wanting to make a black and white quilt for my bedroom but also love your fabrics due to the detail. Pandas have a special place in my heart as my special soft toy from a baby is a panda and my room is black and white because of him (Trevor). Also agree skunks have had a bad press so very much appreciate the positive skunk pr. Great collection.

Wow Tula Pink! You have created something I love in the Line Work collection. I lived in Madagascar and South Africa so several of your animals resonate with me. My experience in Quincy Mass with skunks is more on the stinky side but you nailed the floral. I hope I can narrow down the quilt selection! It gives me so much to think about. I bought the FQ bundle. So enjoyed your explanation on the creation of the line.

Hi Tula, Really like this new fabric. The detailed drawing and subtle color work is marvelous.
On another note, yes, skunks are stinky. You haven't lived until you have had to give a dog a bath in the middle of the night, because a skunk shared his fragrant spray. Outsie, in the dark, with cold water.

I am collecting your solids at the moment as I have been quilting for 20 years, and all I have is prints!...I am weaning myself into non K.T. fabrics as I have grown in my appreciation for more modern esthetic...brighter more colorful...as your fabrics are...so inspiring, unique fabrics...
And the skunk fabric is "flower" which is the name Bambi gave his skunk friend.

I was just in a quilt shop yesterday and picked up a piece of fabric that I just had to keep touching because it was heavenly. I called my girlfriend over and said "feel this fabric. you've never felt anything like this." We were both in awe... It turned out it was Free Spirit. I found another piece that will work perfectly for my sewing machine Stitch sampler that have planned and I just couldn't pass it up. The feel is truly beautiful, as well as all the colors. Plus yesterday my friend said I want to make a black and white quilt someday and I said that I've been thinking the same thing. Then today I find this video and I know exactly the fabric I'm going to use. Thank you so much for sharing and for particularly sharing your thought process. I love it
