Beautiful shirts. I made my husband’s shirts when he was living. He was 6’9” and 350 lbs. Great job, Walter.
I love that Hobby Lobby and Chick Fila are Christian businesses. I have never seen either one discriminate against anyone. There are a lot of people in this world that believe different things. We should all just love everyone. I believe we are all sinners. I have my sins and you have yours. I am not to judge anyone else’s sins. I always say you can live the sinner even if you hate the sin. Now what is sin to you and sin to me may be different. That is between you and your God. I like some of Tula’s fabrics mostly for bags and such. Also for fussy cutting in quilts. So to each his own.
I don't care to give my money to people who have been documented to be homophobic, antisemitic etc. The great thing is that there are plenty of shops to choose from. I would never tell others to boycot, but I'm not going there.
When you were talking about sewing machines and the test of time I realized that my machines weren't computerized. They are both mechanical machines. I've always believed Bernina excelled at mechanical but I didn't expect they would be as good at computers so I bought the top of the line mechanical model they carried at the time. Computer models were becoming popular but I chose what I had confidence in. Most of my life I sewed clothing. I have done a few quilts, but have only focused on them in the last couple of years.
My grandmother had a quilt her mother had cut out and started for her and she asked me to finish it. It had 28 blocks of 144 1" pieces and some larger setting pieces. I hand sewed it and it was my first attempt at hand quilting. The piecing went better than the quilting, but I did finish it while she was still alive. She gave me another quilt my great grandmother cut out of suits. I intend to machine piece that one, but want to get better at quilting before I attempt it. That's how I began focusing on quilting.
I am selective about which Tula Pink designs I buy. I choose based on the ones I really like and feel that I’ll be able to use in a project. It’s my opinion that using her fabrics takes a real commitment to fussy cutting - not only the fabrics with the artwork, but also the dots, stripes, and hexys. Cutting her fabric takes a lot of time.
Good for you Walter! Your shirt looks amazing!
Mirror Mirror turned out beautiful! Walter, I'm glad we got to see the blue shirt. It really is great.
I know what you mean about Tula Pink. For me at least, I feel they are meant for fussy cutting and focal pieces. I'm thinking of trying a kaleidoscope style quilt made from Tula Pink with enough blenders to tone things down and allow the focal pieces to shine. To some extent I feel the same about Kaffe Fassett and Tilda fabric collections, which are expensive. The neon brights are not for me at all.
The main difference between older sewing machines and the newer kinds is the guts. I have cleaned, oiled a few olders machines from the 50's 60's and seventies. Lovely machines. My mothers machine from the 50's needs a crane to lift it. I went to clean a machine from the 80's. Took the cover off of it, to find a lot of plastic gears that were stripped.
I'm, sorry, but Joann's has very good fabrics. Their selection for garment and upholstery are quite good. I have garments name today made five or 8 years ago that are still wearable and in good condition. I've made quite the run on pillows and sit cushions from great fabrics at Joann's
I have to agree with you Steven about tula and Kaffe. They are wonderful artistes but i am not sure how to use them into quilts. I made a quilt from' his fabrics and was a bit dissappointed. It is ashame to cut them up. Bags may be a good idea.
You are sooo funny ! You speaking what sooo many of us are thinking ! Love it! Love you 2 ! 🤗❤️😘
You guys crack me up. As for Tula - I am not a huge fan of her fabrics. They are too busy for me. A friend of mine works almost exclusively with Tula making bags. That seems to work. Enjoy your trip. Looking forward to the stories. I also don't support Hobby Lobby of Chick Fil-A for the same reasons.
Newer electronic sewing machines are so much fun!
I have never purchased any Tula Pink fabric. I am drawn to the colors, but definitely not the artwork on it. I like the colors on the Kaffe Fassett fabric , as well. I have purchased his cool color fabric, but not the warm colors.
I like SOME Tula Pink.
Wow…..your mirror, mirror quilt looks awesome! Have a fun trip!
It's $30 a Meter for most fabrics here in Australia
I don’t buy my quilt fabric at big box stores. I buy everything online. Etsy or fat quarter shop.
The Mirror Mirror quilt looks great. I can't wait to see it finished. A Stonehenge print would look great on the back.
Hi Steven & Walter. Safe travels and have fun. Speaking of Timeless Treasures, there is a line called "Cosmos" coming out in September that looks interesting and they also have a line called "Cleo" which has cute cat fabric.
Nice quilt for your sis in law Steven! I will miss you guys😢😢😢. 🐈🐱
I love the patterns of Tula Pink. They are innovative and fresh. In Australia we have not a great selection. But Tula pinks fabric frays so much.
I got some fabric on the bolt from Wally World and it was actually not bad.. can’t wait to go to a quilt store soon
Love William Morris...😮
Love your quilt!!!
Oh it’s beautiful I love it
I loved LINEWORKS but I still haven’t made anything yet! Loved this video. !
I buy from my girlfriends quilt shoppe and Joann’s
I wonder if the other Steven will show up on the 14th?
Maybe it will be the other Steven! LOL!
The Mirror, Mirror quilt for your sister-in-law looks fantastic you've inspired me to try it. About Tula Pink fabric I'm not a fan I just don't like her fabric I can't seem to wrap my head around the colors, patterns to create a quilt. I rarely use patterns in making a quilt mostly I make traditional blocks I just feel her fabric doesn't fit. Also, on the stores like Walmart and JoAnn's that sell fabric I've only bought from Wal-Mart about 20 years ago when their fabrics were of better quality. Now, no. I buy mostly online with Jordan Fabrics from their sales they have and from Fat Quarter Shop. Have a great trip...
Some stores do carry seconds or ones that were rejected by the manufacturer.
Designer Essentials Solids are Free Spirit’s solids. Tula is a Free Spirit designer. There are certain solid colors that are made to go well with her fabrics.
I love eBay vintage fabric from the 90s is great 👍
Great shirt Walter!
I love the mirror mirror quilt!
Probably because you have jobs or hate us 😂😂😂 Water almost came out of my nose ❤❤❤
The quilt is beautiful…
Lucky you another holiday
I don't do Hobby Lobby and Chick-fil-A for thier trashy politics. I love Joann! It's only 1 block away and they have decent items. I do mostly craft sewing...I do have some Tula but scared to use it.😂😂😂 I don't want to waste it. 😂😂😂 She does beautiful work but it is really tailored to fussy cutting. Good for my type of craft sewing. Just a couple local shops close to me. I go to them first but they dont have everything. ❤❤❤
That quilt for your sister in law 😍
Lovely shirt Walter
I love that Mirror, Mirror quilt!
Re: Tula Pink, no, it's not just you. I like Northcott, I like Wyndham, but Tula Pink leaves me sorta cold. I do agree with you that the fabrics look good in a bag, but not so much in a quilt. At least, not for me, unless it was for someone very special.
I agree the KF collectIve hasn’t moved forward.
I got 40 pcs of Chinese 9” x2-5 strips from Temu really nice and good quality however the other was very thin…
I know what you mean about tula pink fabric. She is so talented with art but it all looks to me as something for kids.
What pattern is the shirt? I love them on both of you.
You didn't say the air pod brand. Please share😊
The Kona fabric at Joann's is of lesser quality. I've compared them.
Your! Trying to text with one hand !
Much respect for Tula Pink as an artist. Nevertheless, I've never bought the fabric. I like solids and classic florals in muted colors. I cut all my fabric from the back side. No interest in fussy cut kaleidosocpic (spell??) technicolor effects.
My first "real" quilt was from Joanne's and WM. Never again. I have to mail order everything from where I live, mostly from Hancock's or MSQC. On-line shopping makes color choices problematic. Had a BIG stack of quality quilting fabrics that I will never use due to color (they looked good on the monitor) - finally just donated them. Life is too short to keep fabrics I don't like.
I prefer Amy Butler however, I think she’s given up designing fabric. She seems to be importing Indian prints to the USA and selling at huge prices. Thank you for your video. Great shirt Walter.
You are right. Same old same old!!!
Actually, some of Tulas fabric I seen lately, would make awesome shirts .
Hey guys! Gréât shirt Walter!!! Happy Friday. I agree on JoAnn fabrics. It’s garbage. I don’t LOVE LOVE Tula pink. Most of it is toooooo out there for me lol
Cat shirt on Walter would look ❤
Steve put those pattern companies Walter uses on a list. I never heard of them...
Joann's quilting fabrics are ok, if you stick to the supreme brand. Yeah, but expensive, but not as expensive as quilting stores. But will save about $4 per yard, more with a discount coupon.
Apparently Walmart get the fabric companies to print fabric from them on a cheaper grade of cotton.
That’s interesting
I agree with Walter get him to shorten a pair.
I believe designer essential I believe is made by free spirit like tula but I don't think it's tula I could be wrong.
Tula Pink doesn't thrill me. I own none. Kaffe Fassett is as crazy as I get.
Walter, I'll help you make shorts for Steve😂just v send the pattern!!😂
Rainbow beard😂i ❤
Ah the world of plus sized fashion. Ladies wear too, lacks inspiration. I've found fast fashion is filling the need right now. Temu has quite the selection. The quality is ok as long as you're ok with polyester. I'm not sure about their mens fashion.
I agree with you...Tula 😝
I actually feel Kaffes fabric feels cheap
Hello
Oops! You are..
You like your oliseo?😂😂😂
I don't like Tula Pink's fabrics either. Not fond of the colours, but I mostly dislike them because I find the prints quite hideous. Butt ugly !
I don’t really like TP either.
Do you like tilda fabrics?
I Don't know- never have looked for them. I will have to.
I don’t like Tula pink either
No to Hobby Lobby. 100%
Temu🥴🤪
I don’t like their beliefs.
