It's so difficult being a business and still have compassion and energy to make other people lives better and give employees a sense of ownershipship and pride. All while trying to make money. I've had a small business for 22 years. You are a credit to small business. Thank you for your example of small businesses.

  • @susanbeals7597

That 2nd one, 32' long - I'd put a small coat closet just inside the front door, then a stackable washer/dryer, then a narrow built-in pull-out pantry at the end of the kitchen counter, and an oven under the counter. Then opposite the kitchen, I'd put an apt size refrigerator tucked under the stairs, with more storage inside the stairs. I'd sleep downstairs, with storage built-in under the bed, and a twin guest bed and storage in the loft.

Yeah... I expect getting Randy to work with you on your house is more a matter of chance opportunity than a guarantee--and the chances will go down as the company grows. There is a disconnect between the sales pitch on the videos and the actual sales team experience. For example, Randy says, "If you want it, we can do it." But the sales team told me, "We don't do that," pretty flatly. They're an ok company, but don't over idealize what they're willing to offer in terms of accessibility and flexibility.

He doesn’t have to know his heritage from a DNA test to know who he is, No one does ; they are akin to entertainment only.
He’s an open book and that’s as honest as you can get.
He is making a difference by doing things right, every minute of the day he breaths as best as he can that day!
    Here’s an idea…
Think of building a geodesic dome of solar panels, yes not rectangular panels. It will be huge. It could withstand very high winds.the inside could house all the lithium battery storage etc.
This could network the whole community and even those who are on the grid now could eventually be off the grid by association they would just need an inverter and be hooked up to solar from the dome.
Your growing fast, what are you doing for garbage pick up from everyone? Composting could be done by the whole community to the central area for the community gardens. Everyone would eventually benefit. It wouldn’t take too many years and the benefits would far out way the cons now.

The "sticks" (Randy's words) won't be white washed, but brown (Sherman Williams "Bagel" ) like the beams. The whole thing won't be white washed, just the ceiling. The walls will be gray washed (washed because I hope the knotholes won't bleed through-I hate knot holes unless a western or cabin theme, which mine is definitely not), with the walls over the kitchen counter washed SW "Marshmallow". The trim will be Marshmallow also, if I'm remembering correctly after almost 9 months since choosing the colors. The window trim might be that color or the brown, I don't remember. The lower kitchen cabinets will NOT be washed, but painted and I hope its a light gray with blue overtones, I don't remember the SW color. The vent hood will be Marshmallow with the lower trim the light brown color, and the kitchen shelves will be the brown color.
There will be a whitewashed accent wall added between the sconce lights in the LR with a dark gray faux fireplace under it.
The back door opens against a window. I will have a narrow piece of furniture there (& maybe a water jug stand-the water here tastes awful, be warned), so the door has to open the other way, against the side of the counter with the cook top, vent and future oven, which is a wall that Randy is not yet aware of or thinking about when he's being critical here. I wish I could put the picture from CoConstruct to show the wall with light switches from current door hinges to the corner might be almost 1 foot, maybe, and from that corner to the first window edges is barely 4-6 inches. So, there is not a "wall", but windows that the door, as currently hung, opens against. Why have windows if a door opens to block them? I will be noting what he says once the stove/oven counter is there for the door to open against. That just proves he doesn't know the house plans any longer. He's "bossing" and out of touch of these finer things. He's admitted it, on the videos.
Randy always states things as if I made the mistake or did something weird, but it was Scott who made the mistake and admitted it. He said he should have known it was hung wrong, because he wondered why the light switches were on the "wrong" side, which they aren't. If the door opens as hung it blocks access to the light switches.
I don't know if Randy doesn't like admitting his workers can make mistakes or if he has a special dislike for me, always saying something like "we build them custom, as the customer wants it", implying the customer is the idiot. Not one second is spend by ITH going over a customer's plan to determine any possible shortcomings in it, so the lack of consultation is the problem because these "experts" should know and advise the customer. For instance, if a bed won't fit they should realize the customer's plan for a room and suggest a change. Randy has stated such suggestions after the build has started, but on my plan he said it was "a good plan" (his exact words), and did not response at all when I asked if that one room (which I always knew could be a problem) with the BR, bath, and w/d could be 12 feet wide, sticking out a foot on each side. If it was as I wanted it there would have been no problem. There are shortcomings here and it's not always the customer. Neither people, nor businesses are perfect all the time.
By the way, the dishwasher is setting in the middle of the LR where Randy put it because after I was told to order it and it came in 2 days (not 4 months, like the windows) I had nowhere to put it except the passenger seat of my small truck. It's been there for almost a month. The day the house was moved outside Randy noticed it and moved it into the house. There should be a kitchen sink and glass shelves for my bathroom cabinet somewhere in there also. He could put them together. He assured me it wouldn't be stolen... after saying on a video that things are sometimes stolen. Randy speaks, but often doesn't remember what he has said, especially if he agrees to something one day, he can disagree the next... he forgets. His mind is too busy with lots of things. That's why Amanda is always telling him to not say some things, like making promises.
Someone asked in the live comments how the bed will fit now. It will be a twin sized Murphy bed the opens horizontally. When open, and I'm sleeping and getting up a half dozen times in the night to go to the bathroom, it will almost cover the doorway between the partitions, but when folded up there will be plenty of floor space. Like I said before, if Randy had listened and answered my questions about that section being 12 wide, there would have been no problem. However, I think (don't know yet) the Murphy will be cheaper than the sofa bed I'd planned on. Will I like this? Let's just say I'll learn to live with it, because I told Randy in the beginning I knew I wouldn't be getting the exact house I wanted. He said they would build the best house they could for me, and I think they are doing that. I have no complaints about their skill and craft.

Hi Judith…just found this post and your comments. It’s been a year since this post and I sure hope the build/design turned out beautiful. I understand your frustration with Randy..he’s a man and they really don’t have a mind for decorating design detail…he calls it clutter. Well this is your home your design and you will be living with the design not Randy. You are the customer and paying his crew to create per your ideas. Some of the homes they have toured fit the owner…I don’t care for all the darkness and stuff but do understand how it gets that way. I’m just as guilty with stuff BUT seeing things differently now and have been purge purge purging the stuff. I hope your enjoying your creation.

Thank you for your comments. I love my house, but planning to add on so I won't have to sleep in my LR on a chair bed any more. The murphy was canceed due to cost a the tight fit would raise it up over the wi dow sills. Why have long windows with sills that took months to get if the will be covered up?

I watched a video where Amanda was talking about some rude comments that people made. I wasn't near my phone to make a comment at the time so I'm putting it here. Mama always told us if you don't have something nice to say don't say anything at all. What I want to say is that my dream is to own an it one day. If my husband passes before me that dream is going to happen. And I'm hopeful to move in up in Newport into the community. I've been watching it for about a year and I love what you all stand for.. and I feel like I can trust all of y'all with my home.

    • @dnllmaurer1
      @dnllmaurer1 2 года назад

Library ladder system is a brilliant idea. I've seen interesting variations on other channels. Several creative design ideas for best use of space. 1) door hinges attach ladder to loft & rope on both sides, half way up, connect to ceiling pulleys to raise & lower. 2) fold up, pull down attic type ladder. 3) shelves for plants with a portion for stepping. 4) steps disguised in cabinets with 2 hinged shelves only down when in use.
