  • We have great success both incubating and hatching in GQF incubators and hatchers. From the brand new sportsman or professional to our very old reliable GQF 1202 and 1502 sportsman. In this video we show how to remove chicks from your Hatcher and bring them to the brooder. Explaining things like how to sex pure bred auto-sexing breeds, as well as sex-linked hybrid chicks. How to help chicks hatch that need a hand, as well as proper humidity for incubating and hatching. We will have a follow up video to be released where we show you how to properly measure wet bulb humidity, and use the chart to convert that to relative humidity percentage. This is the most accurate measurement for humidity during both incubation and hatching. Please comment what other videos you may want to see in relation to incubating, hatching or anything homesteading.

      @@bestgreenhomestead I have a 1502 GQF incubator and the Hatcher as well. I have quail eggs hatching as I type in the Hatcher and I have Serama eggs in the incubator I just put in this passed Sunday.

      @@XaViEr3520 ok, sure. I can do that. Might be a bit before I release it as I have multiple videos recorded planned to release next. But I see you subscribed so thanks if you hit the bell you can be notified when we do release it. Next will be either “reading wet bulb humidity on incubators/ adjusting” or “building the second high tunnel in winter with end walls” or “3 breeds of meat birds explained” recorded last summer! But maybe I can squeeze and extra quick one on the brooder in there so you don’t have to wait. I have some catching up to do on RUclips anyways!

    Hello! When you cover a pipped egg with a wet paper towel, upon returning the hatch box back to the incubator -- do you leave the paper towel on the egg? Or do you remove it upon returning the hatch box back to the incubator?

    • @bestgreenhomestead
      @bestgreenhomestead  2 года назад +1

      Remove it don’t want it on there too long or they won’t be able to breath. We also started using warm water in spray bottle and misting the hatching tray or pipped eggs specifically and this seems to work well. It’s all about making sure the membrane doesn’t dry out. If it does it is usually best to help them hatch a little or they may get stuck. Never help a chick or duck hatch for any other reason. Try to only ever open Hatcher once a day to remove birds. Leave for good 48hrs after first hatch and try to only open after most or all have hatched to avoid loosing that humidity and having this issue. If helping an egg hatch, and you see blood ever, stop and allow them to do the rest. That is a sign they are not ready.

      It may look like she was squeezing the chicks, but she didn’t hurt any. All them were absolutely fine, none died, none injured. Children need to learn at some point. And she learnt, and is now much gentler with the chicks, although like I said she was gentle enough with them.
