Another notable group to have a personnel change is The Supremes, It's so famous, in fact, it inspired a musical. You may have heard of it. It's called "Dreamgirls." It's also quite interesting that their story is parallel to Destiny's Child. The Supremes started out as the Primettes, the sister group to the Primes whose members would go on to create The Temptations. They had four members - co-founders Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson, Diane (her birth name) Ross, and Betty McGlown. Betty McGlown left the group to get married and Barbara Martin replaced her. After initial rejection due to being too young in 1959, Berry Gordy signed them to his fledging label Tamla Records which later became known as Motown Records, in 1961. By that year, they were either in their last year of high school or already graduated. He also demanded a name change. Ballard chose "The Supremes" after not liking the names Gordy provided. Their early years saw minimal commercial success, and Martin left the group to start a family. The group would remain a trio until the group's official disbandment. Until 1964, Ballard, Ross, and Wells all shared lead vocals. Gordy changed that and made Diane - who began going by Diana by 1965 - the primary singer. He felt her light timber had more crossover appeal. Ballard, considered to have the strongest voice of the group members, did not appreciate this. Wells and Ballard still performed leads on album tracks and Ballard performed her signature song "People" from the musical Funny Girl live. However, Gordy's favoritism of Ross led to growing resentment not only within The Supremes but also among other Motown acts. Things started to go sour in 1967. Gordy officially changed the group's name to Diana Ross and The Supremes. This would spark rumors of Diana being groomed for a solo career. Gordy brought in Barbara Randolph as a prospective new lead singer. She eventually acted as Florence Ballard's first replacement when Ballard's personal problems impacted her appearances at live performances. Ross was not a fan of Randolph and that led to Gordy signing Cindy Birdsong as Ballard's official replacement that same year. At the time, Birdsong was still in contract with Patti LaBelle and the Blue Belles, so she was technically on a probationary period until Gordy could buy out her contract. Florence had not been officially fired; Gordy encouraged her to quit. However, after an embarrassing showing at the Flaming Hotel, Gordy fired Ballard and officially replaced her with Birdsong (who he had been secretly bringing to gigs unbeknownst to Ballard). On a side note, the Flamingo Hotel fallout is dramatized in Dreamgirls at the end of Act I, the musical's most famous number: "It's All Over/And I Am Telling You." Florence Ballard sadly passed away in 1976 from a heart attack and in financial ruin amid a comeback. Before her passing, she reconciled with Ross and Wilson. Effie White, loosely based on Ballard, was intended to meet the same fate as her real-life inspiration. Jennifer Holiday, the originator of the role on Broadway, successfully fought to change this ending. Motown announced in 1969 that Diane would go solo by the end of the year. By this time, the group's success had declined due to changing musical tastes, their primary songwriters Holland-Dozier-Holland leaving Motown acrimoniously., and in-group tension. Her final single with the Supremes, "Someday We'll Be Together" was released that year becoming the group's 12th and final #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 and the last #1 single of the 1960s. Funnily enough, this single was intended to be Ross' first solo single as Birdsong and Wilson did not appear on the track (instead, Ross' first solo single would be "Reach Out and Touch Somebody's Hand" which would go on to be a top 40 hit on the Hot 100). Their lack of appearance on several Supremes singles was common at the time given the tension at the time. Syreeta Wright, label mate Stevie Wonder's wife (at the time) and songwriting partner, was the first considered replacement for Ross. When that didn't work, Jeanne Terrell was brought in. Gordy, according to Mary Wilson, also officially washed his hands of the group and focused on Ross' career (with whom he was having an affair, and that affair led to the birth of a child in 1971). The change in personnel led to the group reverting back to its old name The Supremes. Their first single post-Ross, "Up The Ladder To The Roof", was a top ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100. They would release lukewarm singles throughout the 1970s - "Stone Cold Love" being their last R&B #1 hit and top 10 Hot 100 hit - and experience more member changes. Birdsong left the group in 1972 and Lynda Laurence, Stevie Wonder's background vocalist, replaced her. Jeanne Terrell left due to being fed up with low success and lack of promotion and Scherrie Payne replaced her in 1973. Laurence would also leave that same year and Birdsong would return. in 1967, Birdsong left for the final time and Susaye Greene replaced her. By 1977, Mary Wilson,, the longest-tenured member and last remaining original member, had had enough and left the group. Seeing as there were no original members, Motown officially disbanded the group that same year. Today Diana Ross, Susaye Greene, Cindy Birdsong, Scherrie Payne, and Jeanne Terrell are the last surviving members of The Supremes, with Ross being the sole original member left.
All the OG members (Sisqo, Jazz, and Nokio) are back besides Woody. The others are Scola who joined the group on their 3rd album when they had 5 members, Tao who replaced Scola after he left & was with the group for years but has recently left to be in another band, and Black & Smoke from the 90's group Playa who joined when Nokio, Jazz, and Tao had left for a brief time.
Good evening: We missed you guys...!! I click so fast when I got the notification. Lingere what a name. I totally forgot about Pretty Ricky switch up. I never heard of R U the Girl, till watching this video. That name is 😂😂 O' Sokrispe
T-Boz & Chilli always made sure to never replace Left Eye & they stuck to their word on that. The show R U the Girl was them doing a competition to find a girl that can rap, sing & dance & the winner would do a song with them on the finale & receive a recording contract & that was it. So that song they did w/ O So Krispie was nothing more than a feature if anything, because we didn’t see her anymore after that. And the whole R U the Girl show was their managers idea & they wasn’t for the idea of replacing Left Eye or giving the public the idea that they were, that is why they changed the format to the winner just doing one song & getting a recording contract. T-Boz & Chilli discussed this so many times. So them having a “fill in” is a reach.
The British R&B girl group Eternal were infamously down a member for every studio album they released in the 1990's! Sisters Easther & Vernie Bennett have recently reformed and made a return of sorts this year with a new member Christel Lakhdar! xo

I used to love me some Destiny Child baby 💕 I was heart broken 💔 when Latavia and Letoya were replaced Letoya was always my fav and the prettiest too me. Then I felt so bad for them b/c they didn’t even know they were fired. It took a big toll on their lives as well. Latavia spoke about forming addiction from depression they were so young I know it hurt them badly. Then Farrah came and then she left also. I said everyone else isn’t the problem idc what yall say I think Matthew Knowles was the reason also like Wendy Williams said Beyoncé and the girls.

3LW the girl Kiley who’s family started the group did Naturi but god has the last word. She is a A list celebrity honey and the girl with the lisp bullied her b/c she was with her family and Naturi was alone. You know lisp was wrong b/c Adrienne apologized for what they did too her on that show The Real
I get such nostalgia from the tlc reality show clip.. lol i was in high school at the time and loved that show. I remember recording the finally! Lol 😂
3LW will always be the most trifling way it ended. That group had the potential to represent something bigger than just fame and fortune. They all looked beautiful but man the colorism, pettiness, opportunistic, and nepotism showed how that type of representation was something they werent ready to carry. The management were in it for the profit only.
I wonder if Mickey left because of mess too. Then again IDK if I want to be part of a group where a family member is a manager unless they know how to actually be impartial
Actually 3LW first performance with Jessica Benson was on an episode of Soul Train that aired in March of 2003. That was the last time I ever saw them perform with her on national television and didn't know they were still active after 2003. That's how bad their popularity went down. Jessica unfortunately didn't benefit much from her time with 3LW. Kiely is the common denominator behind 3LW/Cheetah Girls break up. The problem with her is she feels like she's the Beyonce of 3LW/Cheetah Girls. She threw chicken in Naturi face, acted jealous of Raven, she leaked naked photos of Adrienne on the Internet and there were rumors she allegedly started some drama with Jessica Benson behind the scenes. I believe it because that explains why Jessica blocks people on Instagram if they bring up 3LW. Jessica and Naturi are two dark skin women that got screwed in 3LW
@@kerrionswaby1449 right Adrienne leaked her own nudes but everything else said here is true. Kiely was the WORST and its interesting considering she was the least talented in each group
Well she was the youngest and act like with extra bits of spoiled mixed in which she has admitted. Her sister who raised her spoiled her. She really does need to apologize
Okay, I know a lot of y’all don’t like Kiely, but 3LW was a great group. Kiely definitely added something to the group. She can dance and she has a nice tone to her voice. She may not be a powerhouse vocalist, but her voice is nice.
702 is another i think it from 4 sisters to 2 and then added a 3rd member similar story as 3LW. Speaking of them Kiely wasnt cast original in Cheetah Girls it was Solange. Sabrina Bryan talked about it in a podcast
If u can say that, then I can say the Supreme's are the reason for all of these girl groups, and I'm sure there were plenty of others before the Supreme's😊.
I get what you mean when 🫶🏾💯and your absolutely right although as we all know their have been other female groups that paved the way, En Vogue definitely set the tone for their style, music, and talent all of them original members could SANG and they indeed was the pioneer for that style of R&B female girl groups
@@timekademery clearly you are to incompetent for this conversation. The supremes had one lead singer. Groups were a thing but not as big as they were after En Vogue came out they really set the standard for what a girl group is suppose to be. All 4 women can sing no can lead and while doing so remain in harmony when someone else takes the lead. It was more interesting to watch then watching one person singing and the other lip syncing. Never knew OMG girls were all the daughters of the r&b moms and even went on tour with them, that's honestly really sweet lol. They all look like they are friends too so that's cool.
The Pussycat Dolls briefly replaced Nicole who was embarking on a solo career, but the girl who won the reality show left after one performance. Nicole later returned when her solo career flopped.
If y’all were true TLC fans y’all would know that the reality show wasn’t about replacing Lefteye it was to give a girl a chance to perform with them. Both T-Boz and Chilli said they would never replace Lefteye because that was their sister.

@@danisweetlove that could be right. I didn’t recognize anybody and Jazz only came out for minute. He’s gotten bigger.😕
Left Eye COULD NEVER be replaced 4:29
TLC never planned to replace Lisa "Lefteye" Lopez. A fan got a chance to be featured on a song.
Till this day I'm heartbroken that MB are not together anymore 😭😭💔
The situation with Naturi was highly disturbing she was stranded in another state then they lied saying they didn’t do nothing to her
Good evening: We missed you guys...!! I click so fast when I got the notification. Lingere what a name. I totally forgot about Pretty Ricky switch up. I never heard of R U the Girl, till watching this video. That name is 😂😂
O' Sokrispe
Thank you for this on a Sunday. Gave me something to watch. Brings back old memories ❤
I played that first 3LW cd to death. I loved them so much growing up!
Also, fun fact about 3LW: the Mickey girl that Naturi replaced was Country singer, Mickey Guyton. She certainly dodged a bullet lol
And poor Jessica. You can she is talented.
The British R&B girl group Eternal were infamously down a member for every studio album they released in the 1990's! Sisters Easther & Vernie Bennett have recently reformed and made a return of sorts this year with a new member Christel Lakhdar! xo
@Franniiv3 It's a pity Lousie and Kelle are no longer members. Also I didn't like how only Easther sang lead.
Wow I love them and I knew they switched members .
@@itsjemmabonddidn't mis-teeq and all saints do that too I remember other uk girl groups like cleopatra, kleshay and the honeyz kept replacing members??.
Sarah from girls aloud passed away sadly.
Pretty Ricky never recovered after the departure of Pleasure
I used to love me some Destiny Child baby 💕 I was heart broken 💔 when Latavia and Letoya were replaced Letoya was always my fav and the prettiest too me. Then I felt so bad for them b/c they didn’t even know they were fired. It took a big toll on their lives as well. Latavia spoke about forming addiction from depression they were so young I know it hurt them badly. Then Farrah came and then she left also. I said everyone else isn’t the problem idc what yall say I think Matthew Knowles was the reason also like Wendy Williams said Beyoncé and the girls.
Me too .
You’re right Matthew was the main reason for the problems in DC but people still til this day blame Beyoncè
@@janemaxhopper2846Farrah wasn't even in the group long and it seemed to impact her too. I knew he nust have been the common denominator when that girl group he managed post DC talked about him being messy, domineering etc
Pretty Ricky could’ve been even bigger . I remember I had their first album on my cd player lol I miss those days I was too young to be listening but still 😂
Jessica from 3LW was soooooooo pretty omgggggg
Addicted to this channel 😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩
This is wtf I’m talking ABOUT!
Oh wow, I had no idea chili wasn’t the original C for TLC. it makes sense though, none of her initials start with the letter C.
I'm no rozanda aka wad not the original. She was a replacement from another girl name crystal Jones In I guess the they have to choose nick names for the group for chili as it should've been trl ... funny huh .
When Prodigy left Mindless Behavior, the group fell apart. You can’t replace the lead singer and him being the best dancer. It just doesn’t work.
Havent watched this channel in a lil min. That intro was so nostalgic 😂 BFTV is too underrated
For Crystal not being a part of TLC was a blessing in disguise.
And all because she wanted a proper look at the contract. Like that right there would tell me something
Jessica of 3LW is gorgeous!!!! She's so beautiful. wow
Tboz and Chilli never replaced lefteye because they keep theirs group legendary more alive forever but I’ve glad they choosing lil mama cause she played Lisa’s character on theirs biopic as well and helped the group of saved.
Love your vids!
damn oso crispie...BFTV always opens up my young memory bank with these videos lol forever quality content
I’m really surprised Dru Hill wasn’t included.
The third replacement of 3lw sang beautifully. Idk why she wasnt main singer for feeling u or given her own career
It's too bad she ended up in their mess.
Ouuu I can’t focus on nothing said during pretty Ricky omg I forgot how fkin fine Spectacular is! lol
yasss same 😂
Love your videos! I remember all these big moments when I was younger specifically DC and 3LW
I get such nostalgia from the tlc reality show clip.. lol i was in high school at the time and loved that show. I remember recording the finally! Lol 😂
I cried when Aaliyah passed and Left Eye I was so hurt. I’m going go download Fan Mail TLC album I knew that album from front to back you hear me 😂😂
3LW will always be the most trifling way it ended.
So Krispie was so embarrassing 😂.
I'm so GLAD I got to be a part of the MB era!! We were really the last generation with a black boy band! ❤😢
Kiely was not behind Adrienne's nude photo leak, Adrienne herself allegedly leaked those photos for publicity
I agree. I still hate her tho lol jk
The Honeyz a British girlband had a line up change as well in the late 90s and great video!! Love your channel ❤
EnVogue and Destiny's Child had line up changes
On The Hotline and “I wanna see you push it” 😂😂😂😂😂
T boz and left eye was so mean to Crystal but left eyes apologized before she passed.
You forgot about Dru Hill they got so many new members
I think the same men were working this playa group with static major.
Was gonna watch baddies, but let me watch this right quick!!!! ❤
Mindless behavior was an era
lmao at drake catching another stray with this omg girlz tea
😂
I know this is going to be a good one💯
702 is another i think it from 4 sisters to 2 and then added a 3rd member similar story as 3LW.
Speaking of them Kiely wasnt cast original in Cheetah Girls it was Solange. Sabrina Bryan talked about it in a podcast
Yep! There's an Unsung episode of 702. I had no idea Meelah wasn't an original member until I saw that episode.
@GeminiLesbian yes I have seen it. There's even a girl before meelah after they kicked out one of the twins.
Can you imagine if Solange had decided to take the role and only Adrienne stayed. Well Raven wouldn't be risking possible jail time
Is that Miguel’s wife auditioning for TLC at 6:10?
Yes that was her namanzi whatever her name is. She was thirsty to be a singer. She was on American idol too.
@@Conversationswithdeeshe was on That So Raven too
I am and always will be a fan of the 3LW original members
Fun Fact: The black country singer Mickey Geiger (sp?) was an original member of 3LW
Mickey Guyton
@@brandonneal4957 Yeah, Guyton! I knew it was something like that. Thanx
@@brandonneal4957In other words bullet dodged
En Vogue is the reason for all these groups
If u can say that, then I can say the Supreme's are the reason for all of these girl groups, and I'm sure there were plenty of others before the Supreme's😊.
Really? Female rnb groups were around since the 50s. No they are not 🤦🏽♀️
I get what you mean when 🫶🏾💯and your absolutely right although as we all know their have been other female groups that paved the way, En Vogue definitely set the tone for their style, music, and talent all of them original members could SANG and they indeed was the pioneer for that style of R&B female girl groups
I knew them personally. ❤
NOW GO SIT DOWN IN A HIGH CHAIR
So happy for some new content yaaaaaas 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Jessica was/is so GORGEOUS!!!
i’ll never forget when “on the hotline” came out. 😂
Never knew OMG girls were all the daughters of the r&b moms and even went on tour with them, that's honestly really sweet lol. They all look like they are friends too so that's cool.
Lingerie 😂😂😂 man I forgot all about that.
🤣🤣
Listen when Pretty Ricky broke up I literally cried but Pleasure P did amazing solo!! He even got Grammy nominated so it was a win for him😂
Not Lingire 😂😂😂😂 3:29
The fact that OMG girls is tryna do a tour and everyone said NO :(
I'm excited to see what they do with their music tho I hope they don't flop too hard 😂
😂😂😂😂 I remember when one of the group members asked me to audition for the lead singer for pretty Ricky
You could do rap groups like nwa
Ironically, Solange was replaced by Kiely in the Cheetah Girls so there were all types of replacing going on lol
The Pussycat Dolls briefly replaced Nicole who was embarking on a solo career, but the girl who won the reality show left after one performance. Nicole later returned when her solo career flopped.
I love this channel
TLC's 3D album is amazing. thank god my mom bought that album
Ooh that pic of Drake wit the OMG girlz. SMH. How were we so blind
Jessica was gorgeous omg
I never knew Pretty Ricky were brothers. Also never knew they switched up members
They weren't all brothers. The narrator has this incorrect. The only brothers were baby blue and spectacular.
The best person for the TLC job was Lil Mama. She fit in really well and has the needed talent.
If y’all were true TLC fans y’all would know that the reality show wasn’t about replacing Lefteye it was to give a girl a chance to perform with them. Both T-Boz and Chilli said they would never replace Lefteye because that was their sister.
Yup it was Crystal who was replaced and all because she wanted to go over her contract with a lawyer. She alo said years ago she wanted to get her moms opinion.
