*We will be pausing watching this show until we catch up with the animated show after reading your comments.. this is the farthest we got into the show so don't expect Avatar Live-Action uploads for a bit but we will be back eventually with them!
While it is impossible to not compare the two versions of the show, I honestly feel like it is much more fun to just enjoy them for what they are separately. Like yeah certain things are different and I preferred some things to how they happened in the animated, but so far, they are still both fun. Animated is just more goofy and light-hearted.
I feel like iv seen a lot of people comparing it to the animated and I’m Just enjoying it for what it is the animated show still exists loving these reactions
I think people forget that this is an "adaptation" which implies modification. Not the mirror image of the animation. For an adaptation, I think they've put it in an order of starting from origin/past to current which I preferred and it gives better understanding of his history for those who didn't watch the animation. Yes it is missing some of my favourite funny elements but I personally really loved this adaptation of ATLA, it has a good mixture of maturity and very mild comedy, it's very well done and I think the actors were chosen very wisely ❤ hit the spot for me.
I couldn’t agree more. Because while I absolutely love the comedy aspect in the original show I think it’s nice that they made this adaptation a bit more serious to cater to a wider audience. Like Aang's people were literally murdered in cold blood, Katara and Sokka lost their mother and Zuko (kind of) lost his, plus his father and sister suck. Like there are some really dark topics in the show and I'm happy they’re showing the seriousness of the situation the Gaang is in while still keeping it lighthearted here and there. Like I'm a HUGE atla fan and I have been one since I was a kid but I'm still gonna enjoy this live action show for what it is because I genuinely think they did a good job with it.
Shout out to Rob for being the levelheaded bro right out the gate: 6:40 🤭 I ended up really liking Netflix's take on the show as a whole, but I also see the merit in most of the fans' criticisms here & there, tbh... nonetheless, I think the showrunners managed to retain the animated original's 'soul' for the most part-- even w/ these radical changes, etc., it all still felt like ATLA imo
I didn’t mind the loss of sexist Sokka after watching the series. For LA Sokka, it made sense that he’s more accepting of women in warrior roles. Gran Gran seemed to be the lead elder of Wolf Cove, and he was training girls back home. It’s hard not to compare, but I think some of the best moments of the LA series are the unique moments and the creative ways they combined some episodes.

Thank you SO MUCH for paying attention to our comments and waiting to watch more of the animated series. 🤩 Really appreciate that! I think you can continue watching after finishing book two. As for this episode, I wish they have kept Sokka's sexism because it's part of his development and shows how he grows and educates himself. Still, Ian worked well with what he was given, you can still get some of the things that make you say: "Yup, that's Sokka". 😹 Kyoshi was badass!!! 👏🏻👏🏻 Really liked your reaction to this! 😊
Exactly. It's the one critique I have of a lot of the reactors on YT, they seem to think an adaptation should be a frame for frame duplicate and that's just not feasible. Alterations should be expected and, as you rightly say, if they just watch it as a stand alone telling they'll enjoy it more.
I've never seen the animated show, and really, really enjoyed Netflix's live action one. I got to experience surprises, suspense, and really got introduced to interesting characters without preconceived notions. I felt the pacing was good and didn't have any issues of understanding character motivations.
I love Kyoshi in this one vs. the cartoon where she makes Aang catch murder charges and then bounces. I am good with the early introduction of the fire lord and other characters. They made it pretty organic. It is relative to the introduction of Garp in the One Piece Series, in that it didn't go that way but it works well.
IMHO, if you are prone to comparing, perhaps it’s better to watch this short live action series first before finishing the animation, so you can fully enjoy both with less bias.
When the showrunners reported that they "toned down" sokka's sexism, I was worried, but chose to give them the benefit of the doubt. After watching the LA series, I'm disappointed. Growing out of his sexism is an important part of his character arc. It's not just about giving the lesson of "girls are strong too!", but actually showing that there are ignorant people in the world like Sokka, but they can also choose to educate themselves. I feel like they avoided that narrative because it's controversial and uncomfortable, and instead chose to reinforce the romance with Suki instead. Although I love Suki in this and the changes they made with badass Kyoshi.
soo soo real, like yeah it sucks he was like that but love to see character growth and change, just makes a character more like able that he acknowledged he was wrong and actually changed.
so many are now scared to have character growth because this new black and white thinking people had adopted. i had to stop watching a reactor awhile ago who started demonizing normal human characters for having normal human character flaws. unless a character is absolutely morally perfect a lot of people do not understand and get angry. i've seen people demonize each other online for liking certain characters for how they're written vs the things they do or do not do and it seems like fewer people can separate that
I'm so sad they completely missed the mark on sokka's character growth in this episode by excluding the plotline where he doesn't take the warriors seriously for being girls. As a young girl watching the original, that episode impacted me so much and I was disappointed they left it out completely :(
So a big difference you're going to see it between the animation and a live action is there's no Filler episodes so a lot of important details that were in these Filler episodes in the animations come to fruition in the live action in different ways that's why it seems out of place or missing certain things. Definitely the cast isn't as animated as the animation but let's be real it would not translate well on screen it would probably just be really cringe. so they're a lot more serious but honestly the show is really good and does a really good job of sticking to the main important plots.
I haven't watched the animated show yet. Decided to hold off until I finish the live action. I really enjoyed this episode. I have been impressed with all the episodes I've watched so far.
I laugh at zuko's voice but at the same time the boy is probably going through puberty at that age so his voice would sound a little whiny and would break at times. He's just a young teen.
They skipped and changed a lot of things. I get skipping some things to keep with a more serous tone but there are some things that they just shouldn't have changed. And the more they rush it the more the character development and skill level seems random. Because we've skipped so much hat we don't get to really see them grow.
I understand why most of the comments are saying to treat them as separate shows, but the fact is i would not watch the LA if it weren't for the animated series. If i follow this line of thinking i just wouldn't watch it. Which i did after this episode. this show just isn't for me, but i like to have reel time as background noise when i work so ill keep watching this channels videos
I would trade Kyoshi scenes from any fish scenes from the cartoon tbh. Best peiginal scene from rhe entire franchise. The rest of the episode of this live action, not really a fan of the writing. Just the writing. Most of the casts, wardrobe, make up, battle choreography, and visual bending effects are awesome. I find the writing quite messy and congested on most parts. Regardless, I hope they got renewed for season 2. I wanna se me some Toph.
This was the episode I told myself to just stop comparing (to the best of my ability) and just enjoy this reimagined story. As someone else said, this show does best when it doesn’t try to be our beloved animated show and instead tries to capture the spirit of it and consolidate plot point. Rushed? Absolutely. Perfect? Far from it. But I personally really enjoyed this modification of the avatar state Also Zuko 🔥
Idk but maybe FINISHED the animation first so you guys could get more attached/hooked up to the Avatar. S2 AND S3 are peak animation, even The Legend of Korra are good too!
Zhao is by far the worst casting in this show. Looks and sounds nothing like him. Literally even though Jason Isaacs (the originally voice actor) isn't asian he actually looks far more like Zhao than who they chose and the guy has far too much makeup and prosthetics on to play the part that he just doesn't look right or natural. Most people may recognize him from the xmen film series. Also really weird how iroh didn't know who he was even though iroh literally was their general and prince at one time. Like what? He knew who he was in the cartoon.

Dallas captured Season 1 / Book 1 Zuko perfectly... The makeup department tho... :/

Best casting for suki!!! She is amazing
My advice is to stop comparing this with the animated version. Just watch and enjoy it like you're watching a new different show .

that's the best way because they essentially are very different

I feel like there aren't man people, who watch the live action without having seen the original. Very interesting to hear your feedback!

No you don't need to compare everything to the original! It's just good in their own way.
IMHO, if you are prone to comparing, perhaps it’s better to watch this short live action series first before finishing the animation, so you can fully enjoy both with less bias.

Why did they stop reacting to this show?
They skipped and changed a lot of things. I get skipping some things to keep with a more serous tone but there are some things that they just shouldn't have changed. I don’t like how you start off the show saying this is when this needs to happen or this will happen. This stops you from enjoying the show itself
