  • In the series of places to visit, Brent geeks out to Philadelphia Hall. A must-see building in the heart of Philly. It spans two generations of buildings when we transition from solid masonry to steel.

I am from Philly and got married here. Glad you highlighted this one. I love this building. There are a ton of great old buildings in Philly and surrounding areas.

My favorite thing about Philly city hall is that the architect James MacArthur Jr. included a sculpture relief of himself in the building. He's laying down naked with a compass in his hand. Pretty fun.

The Masonic Temple across the street from City Hall is pretty impressive as well.

Whoa!! Boy the outside sure makes a statement!!!!
Gorgeous!!! To bad it was closed. I don't think I'll ever make it that direction. 😕 I'll have to look online to see if there are more interior photos available to see.

I see this building most days. My father used to talk about it all the time.

This building is incredible. I live in the Midwest and went to Philadelphia to see the flower show. Booked a hotel. To my complete surprise, drove to the hotel and this is across the street. Arrive in our room on the sixth floor, open the curtains and THIS appears. ❤️ Unforgettable!

I think my biggest disappointment of your video regarding this wonderful building is your failure to briefly mention its offset axial position in relation to the city grid.
It is positioned so it is visible from the both main north-south and east-west axes--Broad and Market Streets, respectively. So, when traveling on either of the previously mentioned streets, City Hall is the only building and the city's central node.

@BrentHull that was not meant to dismiss your excellent brief on the building! As a Philadelphian it was nice to find this and learn about Winterthur--which will soon be a weekend trip!
I only remark because I think it relates to your mentioning the classical orders and their hierarchical value; similarly, as an urban design element, the building is elevated in importance because of its unique position on the grid.

Ok so these same exact buildings are all over the world, India , China , New Zealand , you name it they were there in every town with build in organs which made your organs vibrate with healing frequencies , before they tore them down. The wars they needed to created to change the world so they could rule it whipped most of the old world clean ,what is left is not even a half a percent sadly . Free energie buildings that were build with bricks that have magnetite in them were self run . Hot water ,ac, elevators, radiant fireplaces , so on. The buildings were a permeant magnets working in conjunction with other electrical structures , a wireless electrical grid . The point is they want us to believe this was done by people who could not even build a straight home out of wood . No electricity , horse and bugies, mud roads , no roads . on and on. Its total bull crap.

Imagine building a $25 million dollar structure at a time where most people couldn't afford food. A symbol of greed and corruption if there ever was one.

Hmm, or we thought differently about building, civic pride etc in the past.
