Bob Bob I don’t sell courses, yes there are a lot of gurus, but some info is just too valuable to give away, if every had the stock estimates, for example, they would be useless, you have to keep the info exclusive to maintain its value.
Spot on about "time and effort" Pat - it's very easy to map everything out on a piece of paper but anyone who's gone on to plan each video, record, edit, upload, make it look good and then think about selling it knows it's tougher! However, no getting around how great it is to have an online course business - I currently have four. Started with one, then created the two progressions when buyers asked for an accession ladder and now at better scale I've created a lower end one (which is actually the price my first one launched at - where my first one is now 2.5x the price and randomly sells better...) Anyway, awesome as always Pat!
Thanks Pat! This helped me make a plan to validate and test the demand for my course before I invest all the time and effort to make it. You’re a great teacher and role model.
I’ve been kicking around the idea of running a weight loss course for almost two years now! I love to coach clients individually, but I’m ready to scale it up. Thank you so much for this video. All of them, actually. I really like your friendly, approachable, honest manner. 😊😊
This video will surely help a lot of people out there who wants to start a business online. When I started my affiliate marketing business, I face all the hardship with positive mindset and determination because it’s my passion to help people generate money and earn more commissions by providing training and resources and lead them to the right path of success. Thanks for sharing, Pat!
I can't believe you don't have more followers, every video i have seen, and its been many, has been so helpful and genuine that I feel much more equiped to hit my projects. Thanks for the support!
Love this, Pat. I've been thinking about putting together a social media marketing course based off my experiments and client work over the past 5 years, but I have hesitated to do so. I'll sit down and strategize today to make it happen!
Hello have been trying to look for a Job online and i can't find someone to pay me a good salary. till i come across this man.. He help me to fund my credit card with $9,233.99 before i start working with him and He work without any Upfront payment.. You can contact him on hawkcyberhack098@gmail.com or text 3362524109 for free cash to start your own business or work with him try this and thanks me later wish you all the best of luck
Thank you for this, Pat! It's because of you that I first had the idea to validate my course by putting together a group of paid Betas. Initially, I thought I was going to need like 10,000 RUclips Subscribers before a course would make sense. But after being repeatedly asked for additional help, I decided I would start to float the idea. After 3 weeks of only talking to people who reached out to me (ZERO "sales" tactics), I had a group of 20 people eager to pay me $500 to put together a course! (Oh, my course is on "Selecting Stocks with Confidence", if you were curious...) I'm so excited to help my Betas! I'm excited to then have a resource I can offer others who are seeking additional help. And this whole thing is SO MUCH EASIER when you've already been paid - not just because of the money, but because of the validation! I know now that there is a demand for what I'm putting together and am thrilled at the potential. Thank you, Pat!
Yes! Creating a quality course is so challenging but also SO rewarding; I’ve been thinking through the completion rate stuff and wondering how we can bring our completion rate up. Glad to hear that everyone deals with this.
Another helpful video, Pat. Appreciate the straightforward way you cover both pros and cons, and your reminder that creating a course has to be right for you. My biggest issue is having enough people on a list to get takers! On a more personal note, love the new clean shaven look! Linda
I mostly prefer affiliate marketing and been able to make a full-time with it but been thinking about creating an online course for a while since ppl have asked, but I think right now I’m focusing more on providing value for free and gain respect of my audience, I see too many ppl online who just sell, sell, sell without value first.

These work from home gigs have completely changed my Loren I want to pay it forward. As always, Pat, I appreciate your willingness to share your knowledge and experience and provide such value to us all.
Hey, great vid! I took quite a bit of notes and you're making me want research a few things. Thanks! I'm developing a home defense series of courses to help people to better secure their homes and businesses. There's a fitness and legal aspect to each course as well as self defense training.
Truly appreciate this. Very helpful. For 15 years people have been asking me to make online courses but it wasn't for me. Now that I've discovered a platform I love (Podia), I'm ecstatic to serve my audience through online courses and memberships.
Pat, thanks for the video, I really enjoyed it. I am working on launching a new course ( 2 in fact) with a focus on Productivity, software and hardware that can be used to run home-based businesses. We are deep into the COVID pandemic/situation and a lot of people who are working still are doing so from home. I have used many different software solutions or services that have helped me work remotely. Many you have discussed on your podcast (which I have followed for years). The difference is I can't hopefully show people what works best and how I have saved time, money and lowered my stress. It's going to be a personal approach. So thanks again!
Thank you very much for the help, I've been working on the idea of a online course to help give people a solid financial education and give people the tools to become financially sound and successful. It's still mostly on paper and it will be a bit before I have things properly worked out but it should be great
We're about to launch our first course! Thanks for the inspiration, Pat. I've listened to most of the podcasts you have about this subject. We're excited. We've been working on this thing for quite awhile. Best, -Jim

In the current pandemic, many are turning to the online platform including myself. Thank you for reminding us that serving the audience is most crucial to do this. I want to create online courses for the topics I train in person such as growth mindset, stress and emotional management and resilience. Your video is a gem as a start.
Andrew Au incase it helps, what helped me launch was purely creating the framework of the online course > then selling the first 10 spaces > then building one module per week and drip feeding it out. It got me committed, out there and gave me a weekly task to build it over time. Hope this helps!
Pat, thank you for this! I have a question - I've been wanting to launch a course on how to build an inspiring grass-roots brand, and keep hearing everyone talk about pre-selling as a strategy before you create the actual course. But if a course takes some time to put together, then how do you reconcile the fact that people will potentially be waiting months for your course to go live after they've already paid you the money? It's hard for me to imagine people wanting to throw down their credit card without immediately receiving the product.
Thanks Viktoria, great question! Number one, set those expectations up front and be honest, the last thing you want to do is tell someone they're going to get something right away and not get it. Second, you don't have to deliver a complete course all at once after it's finished. You could, for example, offer 1 module per week for 8 weeks, or more, so they are getting value and coursework along the way as you build it, and you can even incorporate feedback as you get into later modules to ensure your course covers everything they need. A Facebook Group is also a great way to get them excited and keep them engaged along the way. Having a set of customers initially, however, definitely gets you moving to create and give sooner than later, though, so that helps, too.
I havd a you tube channel Jewell Family Farm. I have decided to move it toward a cooking channel instead of homesteading. I have some other ideas for an online course to compliment that idea. Right now I'm in research and how to mode. Thank you for some wonderful ideas. But also great resources.
thank you for this information. My main concern in starting an online course and becoming an online course is any legal documents I should have as a business?
Hey man. Thanks for yourvideo. I'm doing my first course end of July. Some beginner drum lessons. It's largely an experiment to learn how to do the system and see if I can even recoup my costs within a year
Thank you for the great video as always Pat! I'm thinking of creating a course to help women entrepreneurs show up consistently online to inspire others, grow their revenue and make a bigger impact, without the overwhelm. I still have some market research to do, but that's the plan for Q3! 😊
Thanks Pat. I'm just in the middle of creating an online finance course for non-Finance managers...exciting right? I hope so :)...this video and the other one on how to sell an online course was very helpful.
I have provided Christian counseling and professional psychotherapy for 40 years and have a book - Heal My Inner Child - in completed form and now I am seriously considering releasing it in the form of courses within an online community site which would include group one-on-one time with me. It would be the Transformation Academy built on Podia.
I will say that one con is that the teaching platforms often have very poor customer service and in my experience, it may take a week to get a question answered. That can be frustrating. But you are right - there are many pros! I have created a free mini-course Composting 101and have just released a course on Self Sufficiency. Thanks for the advice!
I have a question not sure who can help me !! I have a client that wants to teach online an English writing course ! What is a good platform !? And if I want him to teach on my own site/brand ! Is there a platform that you can share !??
In the Teachable Course Accelerator Challenge right now and I'm developing a course to help personal development and self-help junkies who buy courses and never finish them stop throwing away their precious time and money by teaching them the course completion checklist I have used to transform my body, relationships, and business through online courses.
Great video! Not sure if an online course is the same as a 4-week coaching course that meets once per week, however that’s what I’m doing. Got my first three participants. It was great! Is an online course the same as group coaching?
Thanks for this video. I'm going to be creating an online course on Instructional Design (ID) teaching people how to create engaging courses using ID principles. Wish me luck :)

Hi Pat! My husband and I spent 8 years living in China. We would like to create a course on how to prepare? what to know? and things to see and do? We also have contact still in China for those who may be interested in working there. What do you think of this course/idea? Thanks
Nice content Pat! I want to build an online course for adults that lack confidence in water. But I'd like to do a pre-sell tactic. Do you have any recommendations on how to make that "ask"? I was planning on posting a bunch of videos on my facebook page addressing FAQ's. And then linking to a vimeo channel for paid subscriber access. Thanks for any feedback.
thank you Pat, I had been rolling the idea around of writing a book but I think an online course would be better right now. How would I start? do you consult? It seems I would need someone to advise me. Paula
Do course makers and their affiliates ever honer their money back guarantees? I’ve been trying to get a refund on a course, and all they’ve done is plug more courses, upgrade my package, threaten to shift into a subscription service, etc.
Hey Pat, I'm in dilema, I don't know should I be focusing on coding, or videography/photography. I'm stuck, I love them all, but I need to focus on one thing. Can you help me?
Just reached Tip 2 really nice video. I just started my online blogging venture.Hope it goes well in the coming future.N I would love to connect with you for more tips. Great video😊
Currently there are a few. Teachable is a great choice and what I currently use and also what Pat uses (affiliate link: aaronward.com/recommends/teachable). They're always on top of compliance and are releasing a new sales page builder soon which is exciting. Other options are Kajabi, ClickFunnels (you need your own video hosting), Podia...or you can use membership plugins for a WordPress site. Realistically Teachable is a great choice to start off with as it handles all your payments, keeps you compliant with laws, and is very easy to set up your course.
Yes, I'm seriously thinking about creating an online course. I want to help high school students and college freshmen choose their college major with full knowledge, so make an informed decision, not just a guess or go with the flow. I'm a university professor by day and those blank faces and clear overwhelm make me want to shake them until they see sense, i.e. what career they are meant to follow, not the Joneses way. It's a mini-course because there's really no point in dragging it out, people want results, and results is what I give .
What about if they watch the video course then after a few hours they want an immediate refund? How to do protect yourself from those who want to watch for free?
How do you presell a course before building it? I hear this mentioned a lot, but it doesn’t make sense to me. Can someone explain to me what is meant by that statement, please? Thank you!
Hey Tee, The best way to pre-sell is to survey your audience to find out what they want. You can use Google forms for this. This way you can see what people want (the outcome/result) and what problems they have that currently are stopping them getting there. After this, you can offer them a solution (your online course) and tell them they can join early for a discounted price. This is basically how you pre-sell your course.
Hello Pat, How are you? I watched your video and it was helpful. My passion, education, and career are in education. I really want to create an online course for high school students to get them ready for college. It will be called College Readiness Life Skills. I also want this course to be accredited. Do you have any suggestions on what steps to start with first?
Pat, can you tell us about your attitude to crypto-currencies? Recently heard about such a crypto project as Universa, caught fire on this topic, and invested money in this project, has already received not bad money! I advise Universa to all friends!
Hey Pat, Can you make a Video on how to be motivated to finish the course your making? Cause everything is so easy to start but finishing it takes persistence. Thanks
I know right? I believe ur going about it the wrong way start at the end and find your way to the start. You should watch Shane from Thrive leads he pretty much gives you a clear & structured way to create an E-course. Check it out, it worked for me :) Now my focus lies on how effective & strong is course :-D
I want to make one about how to travel the world and work 30 minutes a week with Airbnb. Just wanted to first offer it to teenagers for free and then sell it just wanted to add huge value getting people on the plane.
What if someone want to ruins our online course business by sharing all those recorded online tutorial video on social media for free ? it's one of my concern so far , thanks for your time
@@danieltill.marketing Thanks for your comment bro , appreciate it . I am just a starter .pls kindly advise which platform I should use to sell my content and courses . i am looking for something that easy to access for both my customer and me.
What a great explanation.
1. Build an audience
2. Test your idea for the course
3. Use the course for future value (build an audience, authority, etc) or for current value ($)
4. Keep course updated
5. Automate course delivery to make passive income
6. Build Affiliate income into course
7. Provide additional assistance (offers)

Paula
Hi Pat, besides the Podcasting, what free blog series do u have so I can try and see if I can finish it? As you mentioned
Do course makers and their affiliates ever honer their money back guarantees? I’ve been trying to get a refund on a course, and all they’ve done is plug more courses, upgrade my package, threaten to shift into a subscription service, etc.
I want to create a Watsapp course as a test run for my future online courses on digital marketing. This is really helpful.
How do i turn my course into a pdf file? I have an audience asking me to teach them how i trade the forex market.
Which website is the best one to sell course? Udemy? Or skillshare?
Hey Pat, I'm in dilema, I don't know should I be focusing on coding, or videography/photography. I'm stuck, I love them all, but I need to focus on one thing. Can you help me?

Which platform is best for creating online courses?
Currently there are a few. Teachable is a great choice and what I currently use and also what Pat uses (affiliate link: aaronward.com/recommends/teachable). They're always on top of compliance and are releasing a new sales page builder soon which is exciting.
Other options are Kajabi, ClickFunnels (you need your own video hosting), Podia...or you can use membership plugins for a WordPress site.
Realistically Teachable is a great choice to start off with as it handles all your payments, keeps you compliant with laws, and is very easy to set up your course.
We're creating an online course!
Awesome, you got this, and good luck!
Ppl like results and results is what I give! Loving this quote should be your catch phrase. It certainly wheeled me in@
Thanks Pat. I've been thinking of creating one but perhaps I should grow my audience more first.
So I am making an online course for web development specifically on JavaScript.
What about if they watch the video course then after a few hours they want an immediate refund? How to do protect yourself from those who want to watch for free?
Have a disclaimer and policy for 1 hour window?
hi, I am a barber over17years and I found a method called the practical method so I am looking to create a course about it and launched.
Great Content Pat! Curious how you promoted your courses? PPC, PPV,Email?
Really helpful video. Thank you. I have created a couple of online courses but I'm now stuck with how to proceed. Help!!!
How do you presell a course before building it? I hear this mentioned a lot, but it doesn’t make sense to me. Can someone explain to me what is meant by that statement, please? Thank you!
Hey Tee,
The best way to pre-sell is to survey your audience to find out what they want. You can use Google forms for this. This way you can see what people want (the outcome/result) and what problems they have that currently are stopping them getting there.
After this, you can offer them a solution (your online course) and tell them they can join early for a discounted price. This is basically how you pre-sell your course.
Can anyone recommend a platform to start an online course? Should I use one to start my online course or should I get my own domain things like that?
Hello Pat, How are you? I watched your video and it was helpful. My passion, education, and career are in education. I really want to create an online course for high school students to get them ready for college. It will be called College Readiness Life Skills. I also want this course to be accredited. Do you have any suggestions on what steps to start with first?
Pat, can you tell us about your attitude to crypto-currencies?
Recently heard about such a crypto project as Universa, caught fire on this topic, and invested money in this project, has already received not bad money! I advise Universa to all friends!
Hey Pat awesome content. Do you have any courses teaching this in depth?
Hey Jeury, you can check out one of mine here, it should help: courses.aaronward.com/p/how-to-create-an-online-course-for-free
