These are rare gems! Most stoogephiles are not aware of these...everybody loves Curly, but Shemp is the only Stooge who could successfully do a solo act.
@@rogerrendzak8055 The Curly vs Shemp debate is never going to go away, anymore than the Mary Ann vs Ginger debate. As for me, I'm a Mary Ann man myself. 😄😄😄😄😄😄. How about you?
But for what ?Him being i8n solo features that are too obviously Stooge themed andand with Stooges costars from 3 Stooges features? Also abbot & Costello Features and one solo feature in which he remade Punch Drunks as the boxer himself.I saw this in The Three Stooges Scrapbook back in 1985 when I'd first read it.
Been a Stooges fan my entire life (Never seen this until now) Watched the first two shorts really good Love Shemp the man could without a doubt do his own thing! It's very cool to discover these solo shorts (Outstanding Upload)
Shemp was a familiar face to millions in the 30's and 40's as a solo act. He appeared in many feature films either in small bit parts as well as full co-starring roles and worked with everyone in Hollywood just about. He also did a number of Shorts for Columbia as the lead actor and with Andy Clyde as an unoffical partnership.
Thanks to RETROVIDEO for this wonderful works of memories Weekends and holidays was what I was expecting to watch beside carton on the early morning since coming to america ^_^
Bride & Gloom, one of Shem- p's last solos, if not THE last one ever made before rejoini ng brother Moe & Larry after baby brother Curly's stroke i n May, 1946.
Shemp Howard was hilarious, just different from Curly . But just as funny . His best line ever in my opinion was “You’re supposed to be singing of the breaking of Spring Not the eruption of a volcano !“ ……. Timeless
Shemp is a bit toned down & more take charge in these solo shorts. I actually really like them. They seem higher quality than the regular Three Stooges shorts.
Thanks mucho an early apperance of Stymie Beard at the ball game great, Moe mustve been taking care of Curly after his stroke Shemp was just as good as Curly for sure thank you for this treat
Shempy !! These are very, very good- him alone is fascinating to watch. I caught Shemp in a Charlie Chan movie the other day, playing- of all things- a guy masquerading as a Hindu !?!....lol 🚬😎
Wow, i had no idea that Shemp tried it on his own. He was the same Columbia picture company as well as many of the personnel used in the original Three Stooges shorts.
The only thing missing from these shorts are Moe and Larry. Same cast of characters as Shemp's films. Columbia sure didn't have to go far to find the cast. I love the remakes of the earlier Stooges movies when Shemp got back with the team. I had seen a number of his shorts in the 30s like the Joe Palooka films and a few in the 40s; but these! Wow! It's almost like watching new episodes of The Three Stooges!
Shemp happens to be the eldest Howard...he is already an accomplished and experienced comedian, and was really a charter Stooge before Curly, the youngest Howard took over.
Amazing I never knew he had his own solos. Did any of the others also have solos? He does seem a bit muted compared to all the sounds and facial expressions he would make with the other stooges.
Seems that Columbia used the "Mary Had A Little Lamb + Oh Susanna" mashup for their "not-Stooges" movies. I've heard the same tune with the Sterling Holloway movies as well
39:51 - 40:09 Wet hair at first but instantly dried in seconds later. I think Shemp was a lot funny compared to Curly after watching this. Shemp and Moe were really compassionate for taking care of Curly after his stroke.
It was odd seeing shrimp even in a acting scene behind the wheel of a car because he never drove. Moe tried to teach him one time how to drive and a kid was on the side of the road and shimp panicked and went off the side of the road and into a barn after that he never drove again.
Open Season for saps and Charley Chase version were both good in their own way and both did a good job on them. Mr. Noisy was one Shemp did the best than Chase. Chase's version was fine but I liked Shemp's version of Mr. Noisy best between the two versions.
@@joshuabrophy4585 I think they had passed on. Shemp considered them all a comedy team and wanted them all to remain with him when he rejoined with Moe.

@@murphynapoleon absolutely
@@murphynapoleon To me, Curly didn't have what it takes to be a solo Stooge.
Love Shemp 😁!! I'll take Shemp over Curly, easily. But Larry's my favorite. The cream that held, the brothers together 😌…………

A great Add Libber too. The camera crews sometimes would keep the camera's rolling and they would be laughing hysterical.

Thanks for the info.
Wow!!! Didn't know these existed!!! Love these!
Shemp is my all time favorite, never seen these before just great!
Thanks my favorite stooge
Great Quality !!!
These are a lot of fun, thanks for posting. Shemp was terrific on his own and I'd never seen any of these before!
Shemp has always been my favorite among the stooges he always makes me laugh

That sure was funny
Mr. Noisy and Open season for saps are the funniest shorts I have ever seen.
Curly was good but shemp and that face and hair was hilarious
I would like to respectfully disagree
Curly was better.
SHEMP WAS THE BEST STOOGE!!!! He called himself, "The ugliest person in Hollywood" but homie is cool in my book!
He was the very best indeed!
SirSamuel-Actually that was a publicity stunt naming Shemp the Ugliest Man In Hollywood, which I'm sure he took in stride.
that was just a Publicity stunt Shemp used that he was the ugliest actor in Hollywood, the man was a genius.
A tremendous talent - just love the guy's solo and Stooge work
Been a stooge fan for 50 years and never knew these existed, man they are great too.
u got me. i watched them rom the 70s i was under 10
I always preferred the Shemp shorts with the Three Stooges over Curly, Joe and the other Joe.
Winning
Shemp is a bit toned down & more take charge in these solo shorts. I actually really like them. They seem higher quality than the regular Three Stooges shorts.
As a solo, he really didn't play the part of a Stooge.
Love curly but Shemp was in a league by himself great actor RIP still watch the three stooges till this day
I recall seeing Shemp shorts at the Saturday matinees in the 1960s.
Thanks mucho an early apperance of Stymie Beard at the ball game great,
Moe mustve been taking care of Curly after his stroke Shemp was just as good as Curly for sure thank you for this treat
3 Stooges are awesome anytime.
shemp was so funny.
Shemp Howard will Say Winning
Really ironic Shemp being stuck in a runaway car given that the man was terrified of driving.
Lawrence Watson-What's really ironic is that Shemp dropped dead while riding in one.

3 Stooges rule 4-ever⭐️⭐️⭐️

@lar ryder wow. I never knew that. Thanks!
@lar ryder Irving died young, and Jack sold insurance, and never went into show biz. So after Shemp died Moe had no other brothers to turn to.
Amazing I never knew he had his own solos. Did any of the others also have solos? He does seem a bit muted compared to all the sounds and facial expressions he would make with the other stooges.
Pretty much every 3rd stooge minus Curly. Curly Joe and Joe Besser both had their own respective solos. Although they're less well known than these.
Butt Joe sucked, and curly always was funny
Mary! My green canary!
Corn on The Cop isn't here but thats fine. It's an early Shemp short from 33-34 and really good.

Well, interesting to say the least.
Isn't it great to see Shemp working without that bully Moe cramping his style?
Felixq78-That's why Moe was my least favorite Stooge-he could dish out the slapstick, but he couldn't take it, unless it was from a non Stooge.

The first one Bride and Gloom was his last solo film before going back to the Stooges because Curly had a stroke, 1947.

Shemp doesn't have any bra kes, but he manages to stop the car after backing away fr om the fire hydrant & driving off.
I noticed that too..LOL
I think it's because he changed his gear
Christina MacIntyre was a Nordic beauty
You betcha, what a doll!
Jean Willes...hubba hubba!
Shemp had the real acting chops
58:26 how powerful is that spit 🤔
Ironically he was in a early 3 stooges film called Brideless Groom (1947)with the woman who played his wife(in the first film shown)
Only had time to watch the first episode. Interestingly, he didn't play the part of a Stooge - just a poor guy who was the victim of circumstance.
When were these made?
One Stooge
Ironic that for a lot of these they involve a car despite that he was afraid of driving.
At the 1:30 mark Shemp looks a lot like his father.
@10:35 LOL!!!! YEAH SHEMP!!! LOL!!!
1:27:46 if you pay action you'll notice the box didn't even land where she was standing
Don't worry hunny it's a light job it's only flat on the bottom 😁😁
Rebel Randall...yum yum!
are these on DVD?
A missed opportunity to say "Four/Fore" pun at 01:47:27.
The women looked and dressed like women back then!! that brunette is gorgeous......
Wasn't the intro music from Warner Bros cartoons?

they got the same actors as the three stooges but the three stooges is better
His brother Moe not in here to hit him

With
Christine McIntyre
Dick Curtis
Jean Donahue
Tom Kennedy
Rebel Randall
Andy Clyde
Vernon Dent
Shemp Howard
Walter Soderling
Grace Lenard
