Such an underrated gem. If you get used to his lyrical and musical style, you will be sure about that this song is obviously written by himself without looking at credits.
I find it extremely admirable that Michael was able to speak out about his addiction experience to make others aware of what it's like and call people out. A legend!
It wasn't a "drug addiction" literally, Morphine isn't a "drug", but if your body it's not strong enough it will be addicted. And he taked morphine and demerol because he broken his leg and he had muscular pains
*This song is a masterpiece.* Industrial rock and neoclassical in radically contradicting unity, including in vocals. Composed and arranged by Michael Jackson.
This is his David Bowie Nine Inch Nail style groove. Bowie was the first concert live show style moonwalker that Jackson was a audience member of. Later Bowie would be the only artist to beat Jackson as greatest male artist in a category. They both had that Slash connection as well. They were the Giants and still rock any party.
tavalyn castor how? If someone asks well the dust behind MJ was like the dust from the event and the buildings are exactly like the ones in NY. The moon was like how the event occurred sadly it, truth be told it wasn’t exactly about just drugs if you asked me from the warnings MJ told us
As a recovering opiate addict, this is the only song I know that explains the feeling of being an addict this perfectly. The hard sections are like withdrawing and having to deal with all the emotions of being self aware of your addiction, but knowing that you're going to have to take it again - the slow section is getting your fix, and all the relief from that, however mixed with the resentment and guilt of being on opiates, knowing it's one of the hardest drugs to get off of (benzos are also horrifyingly terrible). One of my absolute favorites from Michael.
This is so true. Morphine is one of my favorite MJ songs. I have also abused opiates and I can feel the pain and frustration he feels while singing this song. It's horrible having to depend on opiates not just for pain relief but for escaping reality as well
His family and people close tried to help him many times. In some occasions he would cut people off who would try to tell him different but that’s the sad thing about being an addict but also having so much success. Sometimes you just can’t be told. But you are right, the world didn’t listen to his cries on this song. They continued to ridicule and attack him. RIP King
@@brandihagerty958 They are worse since they have the same handlers still in the Hollywood and music industry. Now they are turning them trans or gay with the drugs.
Illuminati was after him which is why he did songs like they dont care about us and black or white. Bad as well. Mj was a threat. Mtv did him work to . He won more awards then any black artist in history . Broke barriers and now they are saying Beyonce is above him.
The 'demerol' part , the calm after the storm, the paradox of our lives, the paradox of the humanity, that's why Micahel Jackson is so fascinating, it reflects the wealth and the poverty for everyone.
Morphine wasn’t recognized till after his death , this was his cry for help and nobody helped him , so sad and it’s scary how similar his death and this song is 🥺
@@cc3374K I think it's what I would have done too. Leave the public with questions so they have to look into your past. Then they see the whole story. All the pain and torment he went through, (forcibly injected {castrated} to keep his voice by doctors his father hired, Overwork and physical & emotional abuse in youth, the burn, the allegations, the investigation, his vitiligo, the outrage over his appearance, the shunning in the media, I can go on but you get the point.
Human Metta you got to hear it not just Listen, hearing it means you know exactly what michael was talking about in the song, if you just listen you just hear the words, so if your like me and you hear what mj is saying then you've listened to what mj was trying to tell us. He was basically saying he was scared for himself from all the drugs he takes on a daily basis.
Hearing this song for the first time scared the shit out of me. Michael sang about his own addiction and it's crazy. The swearing, the bridge, the guitar, the "MORPHINE" yell, it's insanely good. It's such a sad song but I'm shitless
Yea these lyrics are a total trip n so tells n speaks on his addiction n errie that it says put all ur trust in me ..n if u listen in background muffled in back with music it soubds like dr murrys voice oddly n creepy its in the chorus part listen carefully it just spooked me out hear8ng it n i never noticed it till now.. so creepy its wierd like michael was telling his future demise
He goes for everybody with these songs. You can tell he's reached the human limit for what a person should take when it comes to abuse and ridicule. He's PISSED big time which is why these songs are so important. It's like he still lives and the pain is absolutely dripping from his songs. This song is both mocking and a cry for help. It's from the POV of the drug telling MJ that he needs to trust that the drug will quiet everything for just a moment but at the same time he's mocking the actual drug use from the outside perspective. It's like a split personality, both "i need the drug and what. i'm not on drugs, how can you believe that?" It's genius because you're in both perspectives and it's heartbreaking. I don't know any other artist who laid it as bare as he has with these albums. He's completely open and vulnerable and so raw. They retain that funky bust a move quality but there is a hard hitting message right there, just listen.
"Morphine"'s central themes is the drug usage of Demerol & apparently told from the drug's point of view.In the track, he sings, "Trust in me/Just in me/Put all your trust in me/You're doin' morphine...Go on babe/Relax/This won't hurt you/Before I put it in/Close your eyes and count to ten/Don't cry/I won't convert you/There's no need to dismay/Close your eyes and drift away". On this song, Jackson was the sole arranger, doing such to the classical, vocal and orchestral aspects. Jackson also played solo percussion and drums and received joint guitar credit alongside longtime collaborator Slash.
If you listen to this song it is like you can look inside of MJ soul. First he is aggressive because of all the bullshit he has to go through. Then the haunting part when the song gets slow and he says,, relax, this won't hurt you, before I put it in, close you're eyes and count to ten,,. That's the part we're he is high and feels good because he is on drugs. Then the song gets aggressive again when reality kicks in and the trip is over I cry every time I hear it cause this was obviously a cry for help 😢 excuse my bad grammar I am German
When I was small I thought it's a cool change to hear him swear in a song, along with heavy beats. But listening to this when you're a grown up, it's so painful. He was in pain, singing about his own addiction. He was so brave and strong even though no one listened or helped him in his darkest time. Always his own struggle. MJ deserves better. This world doesn't deserve him.
I am crying....I feel his pain....the soft part of this song is amazing.... I always trust on u Michael ....love u forever ....u r always in my heart....miss u so much.
As someone who is trying to not depend on opiates anymore, this song hits hard. I can feel the pain and frustration in his voice. It's frustrating because you don't want to depend on them but when you take them, it's not only for pain relief but to escape reality as well. It's painful because you realize you are harming those around you when you have an addiction, even if you can't see it.
@@samosam5299 having an addiction can be harmful to those around you. It changes who you are as a person and also makes you do things you'd never do if you weren't addicted to them. In my situation, I have probably hurt a few people being addicted to pain medication. It hurts to admit it, but it's the truth
I'm addiction from opioids too, but I feel chronic pain from 7 years. I can't sleep since 4 days. Its hard to me but I know I can understand what Michael felt.

I'm French I don't speak much English and just wanted to send a message to say I'm so sorry for you Michael Jackson if your message and your suffering weren't heard. you always gave the best of yourself to never disappoint your audience, but when you showed us your distress we weren't there for you 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Despite of all the pain he suffered..sleepless nights..persecutions from tabloid media and people who wanted him down..depression and other things in life that made him suffered, Micheal was a very strong person inside and out. I figured, he doesn't wanted the world to see how feeling miserable he was. He kept his smile whenever he was with anyone even deep inside he was broken. I think one of the things that kept him going everyday are his children. He built his world around them. He had helped millions of people but he was too shy to asked help for himself. 😔😔
Howareya whatever, it released in 97 so even if what you say is interesting, there is no relation with the Berlin Wall cause we all knew this song in 97.
I think this song was real because he was addicted to these drugs. A lot of the close people around him said it started due to the consistent pain of his burns from the pepsi commercial but apparently the burns came back and started giving him excruciating pain at 30 which is when he started becoming more and more dependent on the drugs😭
Bruh this song was recorded in 1995 it failed to make the history album also Michael wanted to perform this song on the history tour but sony was a little bitch and didn't allow it
You can help her understand why he is not. Michael is innocent. She doesn't have to like his music. I think this guy does a great job of putting things in context. Excuse the cuss at the beginning, it's the only one. It's worth watching: ruclips.net/video/VpR-QboDfyg/видео.html and the documentary Square One on Amazon or RUclips. The makers of LN obviously did not care that kids might watch there pro-pedophilia piece of garbage. I hope people stay far away from it. Hollywierd has an agenda.
He was found INNOCENT by our own FBI. The FBI DOES NOT let the GUILTY go, not ever. Your mother is not trained. If she believes that then she is just plain stupid. I'm sorry. But that's the truth. He would never have been let go if that was so.
The fact that this had a strong Nine inch nail vibe just shows how limitless he was in music. I wish so badly he went further into industrial, experimental, even trip hop type of music. He would have been perfect for it.
Exactly. This and Little Susie are his darkest songs in his whole career (that are released). It was incredible the creative range and plethora he possessed, he could be writing a Halloween tune for the kids and dancing like a zombie to touching some really sensitive and mature themes that some unfortunate souls could relate to, like this song. There was something for everybody, that's how multifaceted this man was.
Michael told us his true devoted fans what was going on through his songs and "they"didn't like him for that. He's in a better place now,God has him Closer so he'll hurt no more 💗

In the video where Michael Jackson was preparing himself for This Is It, he says "This Is It, this is... this is the... final curtain call, ok? bye... then..." In one of is documentary, he says like "Don't forget me and remember, don't accuse me, cause i'm innocent, see you tomorrow!! ok?" and when he goes to bed, he says Dr. Murray; "Just let me sleep, i don't want nothing at all, just, put me to sleep, ok? In that case, his doctor put an anastesia in his hand... and then... TG: It sounds that Michael Jackson died for an anastesia called Propofol, which make people sleep and that medicine should be outlaw!! 😖😖😔😔😥😥😔😔 I think MJ thought to be accused again for children pedophilia, while being on stage... Michael had this unique ability to masterfully sing and perform songs in all popular music genres in the US, that's why he's the king of pop music and will always be the most versatile musician there ever was
asatish1888 no mj was explaining the dependency to the drug demerol and how he trusted the drug to take the mental and physical pain away all the time.
You can't put all your trust in doctors. Modern medicine is not constructed to actually find a root cause of a disease it's more like managing the symptoms. It's absurd when a doctor says that cholesterol can't be regulated by changing the diet... you will have to use statins for the rest of your life... and sadly that's pretty much with all of the conditions.
This song was a cry for help. I'm sorry, but there's so much more to this. Yes, it's a great song, but the lyrics 'relax, this won't hurt you before I put it in, close your eyes and count to ten Don't cry, I won't convert you, there's no need to dismay, close you eyes and drift away. Demoral, Demoral, Oh god he's taking Demoral" This sounds more like him recalling a dreadful memory and using a drug to try to erase it, NOT like someone injecting him with a drug. I could be wrong, I could be speaking out of turn. But regardless, my heart hurts because no one listened. Everyone took this song at face value instead of asking him why he felt the need to write it in the first place.
You are so right on the same age as Michael would be today and dealing with 2 daughters who are on the big H GOD IT WAS A CRY FOR HELP BUT THEY WANTED HIS MONEY

I am following this dude since 2007. Michael is not the only musician or a singer-songwriter who writes emotions in his music. This is something everybody does normally. What separates him apart from other musicians is " HE WAS A MUSIC SCIENTIST". This thing all came into his life after his hairs were burnt in a small Pepsi commercial ad. God shown him the way which was stated as unparalleled. Can you imagine any musician's brain writing songs from Jam(going fast) to Time doesn't wait for no-one(darkest) to You are my life(highly emotional) to Demerol(darker) to Scream(fun and aggressive) and give in to me(multi intrumented) to much more. I mean he I'd the only multi-talented musician that can go beyond any horizon of music. He is not a musician He was a scientist. I feel it, get my goosebumps. That is it. And then the last I heard from him was "To satisfy". This makes him ultimate. God loves you, Michael. R.I.P. Yet you leave us an inspiration and spark to next generations .
Michael's range as a vocalist, composer, songwriter and a producer was mind-blowing. He actually doesn't get enough credit for the trails he's blazed in ALL of those categories, let alone all of them at the same damn time!
@@marcosmartinez8088 he actually was a musician. He knew how to play many instruments. Just because he didn't do it on stage doesn't mean he didn't know how. In this song, he played most of the instruments used.
He said it: "Don't sing it if i don't mean it" Edit: I didn’t see the amount of likes, thanks everyone, remember, he’ll always be innocent, he’ll always be alive.
And also one of the most infuriating. This isn't Michael Jackson dreading his future. This is him raging at it. It's him screaming "I told you precisely this would happen!"
I learn a lot from Michael Jackson's life because I have a few similarities with him like childhood innocence and insomnia issues... This man sang his soul and heart out to the point of death...Imagine he was planning his last curtain call, this song is proof that he felt life leaving him way before his death.. it's so disheartening that there was noone to give him faith to live...faith to heal from all the hurt...Morphine shows that Michael Jackson tried to fight through the pain
I miss Michael and how he worked so hard on his music. But our loss is heaven's gain. I know he's singing his heart out in the celestial choir now, happy and healthy.
I love his screaming voice. Is so unique. I can't get that noise effect in my voice. He had the hability to change it whenever he wanted. I love that piano, and those strings. (I play piano by the way) I'm really in love 😍
damn this is so sad. mans was crying out for help. on behalf of humanity, michael we are so sorry. we all owe this man a big apology for what people put his ass through.
FUN FACT: If you heard talking during the bridges, it’s a sample from the film “The Elephant Man” where a nurse says to John Merrick “You heard what the doctor said?”
I thought this song was out of place for him when I was 15. Now that I'm 24 and have experience an autoimmune disorder, chronic pain, mental illness, and an Opiate dependancy, This has become one of my top 5 songs of his. Too dark for some, too relatable to me.
He is finally getting his anger out. The inner sanctum of his distress - amazing song, Michael! Such a strong statement sent out to the entire world! Luuuuuuuuv it and will luv all of your artistry forevermore! One of my favorite compositions!

This was definitely a cry for help. There’s no denying it. I think he was trying to let us know things were turning for the worst at that time. He didn’t wanna just out right say it. But he knew we’d listen in the music. It truly breaks my heart.
I remember the first time I heard this song-I was 15 years old, and it terrified me as a fan. We all knew Michael struggled with insomnia, sometimes using sedatives to sleep, and that he still suffered from the pain of the burn injury on his scalp. But this song was like a painful confirmation of his struggles. I talked about it with my friends who were also fans, and we all reached the same conclusion: he was talking about himself. The lyrics were raw and unfiltered, revealing how trapped he was in a dangerous cycle. When he sang about morphine, it wasn’t just a song-it was his reality. Hearing him say, 'I hate your power,' felt like he was admitting the helplessness of having access to drugs meant for hospitals, ones no one should have had so easily. We were just fans, powerless to help, and it was heartbreaking. Knowing this was in 1997, it’s hard to imagine how much worse it must have been by 2009.
Any addiction Michael Jackson had was necessary for him to sleep or even rest for 5 minutes. The cause of this is that one of the platforms Michael Jackson was standing on during a concert came down to fast and so when it landed The greatest entertainer in the world fell down on his knees with a severe back injury that would never heal. After Michael came backstage after the show was done he collapsed and fell to the ground but remember that he endured all of his pain just for his millions of fans all over the world. He also burned his scalp to the point that his hair never grew back imagine having to live like that. He never gave up. He was always there to help those in need and then being accused of child molestation. There is nothing that could e hurt him more. Michael will always rule the world and no soal alive or dead will ever forget him. Rest in peace Michael Jackson, The king of pop rock and soul.
You dam right i knew my dude was innocent from the beginning to the end now did he have his faults yes he did but he was nowhere as atrocious as the media and world portrayed to be.rest ez king u deserve it

If someone asked me, what I think MJs best song is, I would say Morphine. Great beat, very interesting background noises, thrilling lyrics about drugs and beeing helpless against them and the painful part changes with the reality in part 1 and 3 and the unreal world caused by drugs in the middle. It's a masterpiece with great vocals and Michael sounds beautiful and really sad in the middle part.
“Close your eyes and count to ten.” For anyone who has undergone any kind of anesthesia, you know that the procedure involves closing your eyes and being told by the anesthesiologist administering your propofol, TO COUNT TO 10....until you are out cold, and under. Enough said.

Later Bowie would be the only artist to beat Jackson as greatest male artist in a category. They both had that Slash connection as well. They were the Giants and still rock any party.
You can really hear his anger. He was done with all the lies. I fucking love this album.

This is exactly what I thought about the song! I’m a recovering opiate addict.

God bless this man no body ever truly cared about this man but we do. RIP Michael you were the GOAT
I have to disagree with the first part. If you listen closely, hospital sounds will be hearable. that part was the doctors pov.

I love his screaming voice. Is so unique. I can't get that noise effect in my voice. He had the hability to change it whenever he wanted.
I love that piano, and those strings.

2:49 is when Michaels angle voice comes on + my favorite part. Love you Michael! Rip my angle!
He told his problems to the public in this Song. Loud and clear. A truly immortal and unique Artist!
the slow part is fkn insane!!!!!
The most underrated song. I’m a recovering addict, this almost killed me. I was heavy on pills for years
what can i say.
just THE KING
Michael Jackson she my babe sorry OK thank kiss you cute talk about the same time as well as liar hey guys are doing well and good luck
FUN FACT: If you heard talking during the bridges, it’s a sample from the film “The Elephant Man” where a nurse says to John Merrick “You heard what the doctor said?”
That's not fun but interesting
I thought that was Michael saying that because it sounds familiar to his speaking voice.
XxMii_GustaxX nah , he was speaking for his doctor .
That part gives me the chills lol it just scares me coz it’s about Michael’s issues :(
what minute?
I thought this song was out of place for him when I was 15. Now that I'm 24 and have experience an autoimmune disorder, chronic pain, mental illness, and an Opiate dependancy, This has become one of my top 5 songs of his. Too dark for some, too relatable to me.
The way it from a thrasher to gentle and soft spoken part at “demerol oh god”part is scary
He is finally getting his anger out. The inner sanctum of his distress - amazing song, Michael! Such a strong statement sent out to the entire world! Luuuuuuuuv it and will luv all of your artistry forevermore! One of my favorite compositions!
0:00 - 6:29 best part. I love you Michael ❤️
t a e h y u n g what about the Other Second?
Good. Haha...Hugs from Brazil!
you mean 0:00 - 6:30
that 1 second: 👁💧👄💧👁
What about that 1 second?
Michael put so much effort into expressing his pain and struggles. Even just to entertain us with a good beat. Poor guy
One of his bravest and honest songs ever ❤
Morphine
[Verse 1]
He got flat baby
Kick in the back baby
A heart attack baby
I need your body
A hot kiss honey
He dug a ditch baby
You make me sick baby
So unrelying
I'm such a swine baby
All down the line daddy
I hate your kind baby
So unreliable
A hot buzz baby
He's one of us baby
Another drug baby
You so desirable
[Chorus]
Trust in me
Trust in me
Put all your trust in me
You're doing morphine
Ho!
[Verse 2]
They got place baby
Kicked in the face baby
You hate your race baby
You're just a liar
Your every lick baby
Your dog's a bitch baby
You make me sick baby
You soul survivor
She never cut from me
She never cut baby
I had to work baby
You just a rival
Always to please daddy
Right up and leave daddy
You're throwing shame daddy
So undesirable
[Chorus]
Trust in me
Just in me
Put all your trust in me
You're doing morphine
Go ‘on babe
[Bridge]
Relax
This won't hurt you
Before I put it in
Close your eyes and count to ten
Don't cry
I won't convert you
There's no need to dismay
Close your eyes and drift away

Hard to convince her
To be over what he had
Today he wants it twice as bad

Yesterday you had his trust
Today he's taking twice as much

Thank you so much!🖤🌹
2:49 btw so cinematic..the storytelling
3:52 the sad “he-he” is everything

Rest in peace Michael Jackson,
The king of pop rock and soul.
This is such an underrated album.
I really love Morphine, Blood On The Dancefloor, Ghosts and Earth Song.
Earth Song was remixed in this album and from Michael Jackson's 10th studio album without The Jackson 5/The Jacksons.
Suffice it to say that you just love Michael...enough said.
Very underrated song you can hear the pain in his voice he really did mean what he sung
By that you mean to say underappreciated
underrated song. Michael went deep in this song
By that you mean underappreciated
We all own this man a big apology
You dam right i knew my dude was innocent from the beginning to the end now did he have his faults yes he did but he was nowhere as atrocious as the media and world portrayed to be.rest ez king u deserve it
❤️
👏👏👏👏👏👏
Huh
I always knew he was innocent and never doubted him I have nothing to apologize for
This is such a mess up song, every time I hear it, I feel sorry for MJ. It's kind a like this song was his cry for help. 💔 R.I.P MJ. At least your not in pain anymore. We love you.
MoonwalkerLewisBottoms. it was!!! the stress he was under.. alot of try to tell us thru there songs
Bu çok iyi ama Michael tüm şarkılarında aynı mükemmel vuruşları ve ses tekniklerini kullanmış.
Her gün Michael Jackson dinlerim.
Man this song is a soul exposed!!! The things u figure out after someone is gone… RIP KING OF POP
This song is absolutely the darkest he ever sung!!
“Close your eyes and count to ten.”
For anyone who has undergone any kind of anesthesia, you know that the procedure involves closing your eyes and being told by the anesthesiologist administering your propofol, TO COUNT TO 10....until you are out cold, and under. Enough said.
As an anesthesiologist, I approve.
@@abirkalai5688 as I approve, an anesthesiologist
Been there many times (part of having Familial Adenomatous Polyposis), heard (had no idea about this until someone told me) can be a sort of cause for depression, after having been put to sleep multiples of times the way I have. Will always have clinical depression me.
