Flew on DC-9's twice in '89 (US Air from Cleveland to Newark, and US Air from Philadelphia to Cleveland)....amazing 20+ years later they are still flying. Great airplanes.
Thanks to people like you uploading videos like this, these DC-9's and other airplanes that are sure to be completely gone soon, will live on.

Dude you took me down memory lane with this. That's me on the PA after landing and turning off the active taxiway. I was sitting on the Tailcone jumpseat lol. Could also see my old apartments on approach on E concourse rd near Merriman rd. Was based in DTW with Northwest merging with Delta at the time. ❤ wow. Loved the DC-9 Thanks for this memory.

They truly are great airplanes. When I was growing up in Ohio, I flew US Air a lot myself down to Wilmington, NC to visit relatives. We always flew a DC9, F-100, or 732, from CMH-CLT, then one of those same aircraft CLT-ILM.

You were flying on the ghost of North Central Airlines. Hence the number N778NC. Delta is my present favorite airline and my second favorite of all. North Central is my favorite of all-time. I love it that one heritage has joined with the other. These planes will have to be retired eventually, but I love to see N778NC flying in Delta colors. :-)

Another great video on this classic plane, the DC-9. It's been recently retired from the Delta/Northwest fleet. A good plane but fuel hungry and less efficient. Nonetheless, a good sturdy jetliner. Love the ol' sounds from those older jet engines. Previously flew on DC-9 flights from PWM to DET and PWM to PHL (NWA and US Air, respectively).

The thing about the JT8D is that visceral sound that always let your know what was going on, especially on the MacDac 9er. What a peach of an aircraft that fit so many markets and extended its life thru so many extended and special versions. What a hell of an aircraft the DC-9 and was is still is - has character!

+Dan Wiggins So true about the DC-9, but now you have people that don't know a thing about aviation and would rather not bother partaking in other people's passion about aviation, but instead they will complain and whine about everything relating to aircraft, and thus, it puts pressure on the engineers to design aircraft to be lifeless and unlike an aircraft taking away all of that character that the DC-9 has.
The A320, which is already so computerized and less of a Pilot enthusiast aircraft, has been receiving complains about its fuel overpressure regulator cavities under the wing that give off a distinctive twin howling noise like nothing else you'll ever hear. I love that sound, but soon the engineers will probably faze that out all together and the remaining DC-9 aircraft that still operate are being fitted with hush kits. Man I didn't realize so many people are just not wired like me. It's a shame to be in the minority. :(

Love the video, I love this plane, ever since I was a kid I flew to MOT from ONT. I was able to fly on all these aircraft DC-9-15,30,40,50,88 and the 95, have not done the 90 but I love this plane, so quiet in the front and love to hear those engines in the back. I still have the joy of flying these to MOT on Allegiant but not sure how long. Great videos.

Brett Coffey Awesome you had a chance to fly the DC-9's out west. Most of my DC-9 flying was out of Ohio. Now that I live in SoCal, I have been taking advantage of the Allegiant MD-80's. Let's hope they keep flying a while.

I sure hope they do been on Continental Northwest Air Cal Allegiant, AeroMexico, Frontier, Hawaiian Twa, all Dc9 thru MD 95 when. You have a chance I have a question about the super 727

You flew some awesome DC-9's. I mainly flew them with US Air, NWA, TWA and Delta. Ask away on the 727.

On the super what engines are they? They look fatter than the originals, the plane seems to lift faster too, also did the super 80 have different engines than the 30 40 and 50? Are any the same as the 737 100 and 200 engines?

    • @LoveJT8D
      @LoveJT8D  9 лет назад

Brett Coffey Essentially, the outer engines on a super 27 are MD-80 engines (JT8D-200 series). The original 727s, DC9's and 737-1/200s had the earlier JT8D family (JT8D-7, 9, 11, 15, 17 series). The middle engine on a super 27 however remains original.

Thanks :) This vid was shot with the Sony DSC-H55 and a lot of image editing in Sony Vegas. On my more recent videos I know upgraded to the Sony DSC-HX100V and is much better quality. I switched to Final Cut Pro for the editing.

I've sat there on a Northwest 9. Just like that, noise and all. BNA-DTW

Awesome! The sound is amazing sitting in front of the engine. I'm glad Northwest kept the 9's around.

+LoveJT8D I agree that the sound is amazing to hear and that NWA (Northwest Airlines) managed to keep their fleet of DC-9s going, fuel costs and all. Same also to a point with big n heavy DC-10's. Too bad that NWA didn't hang on until the merger with Delta. Bad past mgt. @ NWA which added to the demise of this legacy airline. It's likely a big long-shot for the re-emergence of this legacy airline. My guess is it may not ever happen. I'll remember my past travels w/ them, NWA.

Thanks for watching! Not sure what you mean by "full app". Are you referring to the RUclips app?
