TRUJILLO DAY TRIP | Huanchaco, Huacas de Moche & Chan Chan, Peru | Northern Peru Travel

- We finally left Cusco for Trujillo, the third-largest city in Peru, located in Northern Peru.
In this vlog, we take you on a day trip from Trujillo to three different sites:
1. Huacas de Moche (Temples of Moche)
2. Chan Chan Peru
3. Huanchaco
Here's the link to the full-day tour we took: shrsl.com/20rsy
Our first stop was the Moche Temples, which consists of the Moche Museum (Museo Huacas de Moche), Temple of the Sun (Huaca del Sol) and Temple of the Moon (Huaca de la Luna). It was the city of the Moche civilization, which was developed around year 600 - a few hundred years prior to the Inca civilization.
Our second stop was the Chan Chan Ruins, which are one of the most endangered UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The ruins of Chan Chan also includes the Rainbow Temple (Huaca del Dragón), as well as the main Chan Chan Archaeological Zone. Chan Chan is a pre-Columbian city in the Americas. This Chimu Kingdom was the largest adobe city in the world with around 10,000 buildings. It was the capital of the Chimú civilization.
We ended our day in Huanchaco, a coastal town that used to be a sleepy fishing village. The waves here make the Huanchaco surf popular with the locals.
We're so glad we did this tour. It was a definite Northern Peru Travel bucket list item, as this is one of the least visited regions of Peru. Northern Peru receives less than 10% of International visitors to Peru.
We stayed at DUE Hotel, and here's the link to booking dot com DUE Hotel page

ABOUT US
Michael and Halef live in Atlanta, GA, but are originally from Canada and Indonesia, respectively. They love to travel and try to do it as much as possible. They saved for a few years and are currently on a long-term round the world trip!
How sickening that a tourist would carve their name on an ancient wall. They just don't get what being a visitor to a foreign place is all about. Beautiful and interesting history there. Thanks for sharing. I never heard of this place til now.
Yup, Peru is just simply amazing - so many different and amazing sites all around the country, as you probably have seen from our vlogs so far. Yeah it bugged us to find some carvings as well, and sadly, it is all over the world.
Trujillo has potential for 3 UNESCO sites, but only has 1.
The other 2 are the Moche Huacas and the Historic Centre.
It's hard to find a place with that potential, they should work hard to get that recognition, that would make the city even more attractive
I agree - we enjoyed our time in Trujillo!
WOW ...PERU IS WONDERFUL
IS AMAZING...
We agree!

Hey guys, GREAT informative video. Very much looking forward to visiting Trujillo and Chiclayo areas this coming winter.
Absolutely, this is one of the least traveled parts of Peru and it's definitely a gem.
Enjoy your exploration!
Hey Guys!
Hello again. WELCOME TO PERU! ,. Thank you for sharing our culture.
I'm going to CHILCA city in February.
Chilca is 3 hours from Lima, it is a small town where there are UFO sightings.
That's awesome - we will be back in Peru someday and will check out Chilca then!
Safe travels.
peru un pais excelente.,!!
💯
Great video, guys. Congrats! Thank you for sharing a little bit of our ancient history, and letting the world know about these fantastic places.
After the pandemic we get even fewer tourists, it’s a rough time for people that live in the tourism industry. Hopefully, it will improve soon. I invite you all to visit Trujillo and other neighboring cities in northern Peru, where you can see the very interesting archaeological site and great museums, as well as enjoy our food, people, etc.
Warm greetings.
Thank you! We hope to be back to Peru soon ❤️
Wow this is so incredible! The history is amazing, 600 A.D and pre -dating the Incas? I would LOVE to visit these sites. I can't believe how well preserved these mud structures are. That makes me so annoyed that people would carve into ancient ruins. I'll definitely add Trujillo to my list.
For sure! Thanks for watching!
and Still moche is considered a young civilization/culture in Peru. The caral supe civilization is 3000 to 2600 b.c years old and is located near Lima.
Peru had the 6th oldest civilization ever found and had very many before the Inca even formed in 1150. The Inca destroyed 66 civilizations we know of. Many that had been around over 500 years
Go miss mama. I've been to many places around the world and peru is probably my favorite. The landscape is unreal. The people are so wonderful. They make you smile and feel like part of the family if you let them. A good smile of your own works well as the read it to see how you think of them. I always had people invite me to sit with them or sat down with me for meals. That's nice as a single traveler.
The food is very good and cheap. Ruins are everywhere. Rooms and in country flights are cheap. The busses are the better then anywhere I've ever been by a mile if you take them. On the coast that's fine but going up in the mountains it's as cheap and less time to just fly. Cusco is a life experience.
Let me know if you want any tips or where I stayed. In lima stay in Miraflores. It's super nice and very safe.
I went up north 2 times and it's like he said. Not many tourists. I loved it.
Just go miss mama.
You are very welcome. If you want to learn a little more about the Moche culture you should also include Chiclayo in your list. The richest Moche tombs were found there. The Royal tombs of Sipán Museum is a must-to-see site. Warm regards!
I visited Huanchaco and I loved it. Great video!
We didn't spend a lot of time in Huanchaco, but we liked what we saw. We will be back there someday :)
Truxillo number 1
😀
I live in Trujillo Peru and it’s so cool to see you guys going to all the places I grew up around and know inside and out. It’s so cool to see how people that aren’t locals see our city. Nice vid!
Thank you Hannah! We will be back someday to Northern Peru to explore more!! 😀🇵🇪
Maybe you dont know them but Moche are to Peru what ancient greeks where to Europe. These guys were really brilliant in many aspects of life such arts medicine architecture and a long etc.
We agree! We love Peru and its amazing cultures!
Thanks for watching!

See you around :)
Not quite, Moche are not that old, there are many older (thousands of years old) cultures that come up with many of the inventions that then the Moche improved upon.
Hello ! ! 👍 👍 North Peru 🇵🇪 is the Area where Ceviche was born. Moches prepared ceviche but instead of LImes they used Tumbo, it was 2,000 years ago ! !
It is so amazing on so many levels! We are so glad that we visited Northern Peru, which is the least popular region on Peru for international visitors to explore. Always new things to learn, so thanks for the info.
Wow. This is awesome
For sure!
So cute. Thanks for sharing 👍😊
For sure thanks for watching 😀
Did they tell you about the "caballitos de totora", those sort of boats that you see in Huanchaco? Localmen have been using them for thousands of years, and they are only made of this plant called totora. The caballitos are so old that some artifacts from the Chimu culture show them. I'm so glad you got to visit Trujillo!!
Yup, this is one of the highlights of our visit to Peru. I still can't believe that not many visitors here at all! Our tour guide told us about the ancient boat, and we did see some of the artifacts of this boat from the Chimu in both Chan Chan and the Temple of the Dragon.
Definitely TONS to see in Peru, and we will be back someday!
cool vlog we loved peru
Thank you, we love Peru as well! Saw that you're in the area - are you planning on staying in Peru for a while?
@@theRTWguys we are in colombia now
Fortunately those large one-person boats made of reed are still a living method of caught fish. Moche and Chimu both cultures, caught fish this way !
Super cool!
Did you feel safe in Trujillo? Was it hard to get around? Or figure out how to get everywhere?
We felt safe in Trujillo. Our hotel owner was really helpful in helping us to get around, but it was definitely easy to do.
Pueblito? si en trujillo hay 919 899 hab.
Maybe someday
You didn't visit Tucume?
We didn't visit Tucume, sadly.
theRTWguys Tucume and the beaches of northern Peru are 2 reasons to come back soon.
For sure. We barely scratched the surface of Northern Peru! We will be back someday to see more of the region, and we will visit Tucume per your suggestion then :)
Thanks for suggesting that!
I hope they picked up all the garbage accumulated around Chan Chan
They must have. We didn't see any at all! 😁
Trujillo es una ciudad bonita pero no an conosido la esperanza, el milagro, el porvenir, laredo, ni victor larco
😀🇵🇪
