Harfleur doesn't fit into the Shakespearean epos, a few French repelling a large Anglo-Welsh army with canons for a month while inflicting many casualties. Had the French Ost completely avoid the battle, this expedition would have been a complete failure.
Love the story of Henry V, can't wait to see Part 2. It's amazing he won those battles, despite his short reign he truly had great military success. You should incorporate some quotes and fun things from Henriad (the Shakespeare play on Henry V). Thanks again for all the hard work on these videos, you're better than 'on air' historical shows!
Who would've guessed that Henry V would've have to deal with such a difficult siege prior to his legendary victory at the battle of Agincourt. Great video. I enjoyed it. Can't wait for part 2.
Man, that opening 20 seconds of the video was bone-chilling... with the music and all... it suddenly got real quiet in the room lol. like, "oh shit, it's about to go down".

What I especially love with this channel is that you always put a battle in the historical context. I seen and read many sources about the battle of Agincourt. But none has explained WHAT happened prior to the battle. learning about the siege of Harfleur gives a deeper understanding of the events that would follow! Big thumbs up 👍

It's not that simple... The circumstances were different. It is not entirely era dependent, but rather country, people or state dependent. Even in ancient times, not everyone could move armies of 50,000 to 100,000 in the field... The Romans did, but the Roman Empire was a centralized, well-organized world empire. This is not an isolated case (see East Asia). Europe consisted of many decentralized states of different sizes. The political, social, economic, financial system was different. Incidentally, it was from the 15th century onwards that things began to change slowly. This was in the late Middle Ages, and by this time feudalism was slowly declining. By the way, this is a siege, not a battle... :)
David is a legend my favorite speaker in all history channels the way he tells everything wow..... As for the video as expected on high lvl both with maps and animations keep it up guys ^^
I was born 5 km close to Harfleur. Never be so proud to be a patreon support after this video on the history of Normandy. Hope you release more on my region ! For the story, in the town there is a statut of a knight : Jean de Grouchy. In 1435, Jean, at the age of 80 years old, tried with locals to release the town from english garnison but fail and died. He still a hero here for his bravour. (Link : fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_de_Grouchy?wprov=sfla1)
I once lodged at a maison in Normandy - La Ranconiere in Crepon. It was used as a Nazi HQ in WWII. I marveled at the thick walls that surrounded the complex of buildings that made up the maison. Unfamiliar as I was with medieval history at the time, I asked the concierge if the walls were built to keep the Germans out. 'Non, the English' came the quick retort. True story.
Hehe, awesome bit of trivia. Thanks! Yeah, I've seen videos on restorations of various structures in Normandy, man, these places were built like atomic shelters.
Definitely will at some point. It's often very hard to predict and plan projects, mainly because the creation of assets takes a while. This prevents me from releasing, say, once per week. But I will definitely get to the Cathar crusade
