Hey everyone, here is a well known theme which appeared in Zelda: Ocarina of Time, after watching the trailer and seeing the princess, I figured that Sheik will play some role in this game. After hearing the direction of the music in the absolutely spectacular Zelda: Breath of the Wild trailer, I decided to create my own interpretation of the theme with a very light feeling. Hope you like it!

This would have been cool to hear quietly playing as you reach Zelda's room in the castle.

I’ve always loved Sheik’s theme. It made me feel like I wasn’t alone against the darkness, in and out of game. This brought that feeling back.

@@flameofanor1415 My interpretation of it is that the nostalgic quality's roots are twofold. The first is melodic. Most of the phrases end on a C, which is only a second above Bb which is the tonal center of the piece. This gives each line a longing quality to it. Each time one short phrase finishes, you're waiting for the next one hoping that it will resolve to a Bb and give a sense of finality. In the same way that we long for the joys of the past and the time we spent with now passed loved ones, we long for this piece to resolve to its tonal center, even after listening plenty of times and knowing that it never will. It creates a sense of longing for something which will never come, and that is pretty much nostalgia. The second aspect is the rhythm, or rather the flexibility of the time. Every second of this song operates under rubato. Rubato is more easily listened to than explained, but it essentially means that some parts go faster and other parts go slower but that changes in tempo are fluid and gradual with some unexpected jumps. I think that this rubato aspect gives a dimension of time to the theme. In our lives, things progress at paces that are often too fast or too slow. Great moments feel short lived at times and in the same way difficult periods may seem to last for an eternity. The rubato creates a natural progression of the melody that feels much more like our perception of time than a regimented tempo or extremely sudden changes. This evokes a sense of time passing, and that every second we drift further from those amazing experiences we had in childhood. These emotions are also mentioned in Sheik's dialogue throughout the game.
Am I the only one that wants to see Sheik as a kinda "main" character in the next Zelda?

I can't tell you how many feels I had while listening to this. This really brings back memories of playing Ocarina of Time when I was a kid. The Legend of Zelda has always been something my siblings and I have cherished and listening to this.... This makes me more excited for BOTW, not in an excited jumping up and down way, but in an emotional way. Music is a huge part of a game, and I love hearing your renditions.
If this was in BOTW, I would never leave my TV.
I kinda said this on twitter, but I'll mention it here. I like the arrangement a lot just as an orchestral cover in general. However, if you're aiming to match Breath of the Wild stylistically, I don't think you're quite on the right track, most notably given the amount of reverb and sustain on the piano and the mix overall. I also think you could push for a lot more rubato and segmentation of the melody, as well as really pushing for more suspended or dissonant chords than what was in the original sheik theme. A lot of the chords in BotW's temple of time are almost like jazz chords. Though I suppose it really depends on how you envision that this song would hypothetically be used in the context of the game.
Perhaps I'm thinking too hard about it. =P It's still a nice arrangement, I'm just offering up some critique in case you're wanting to know how to better emulate the musical stylings of BotW. Far be it from me to consider myself a musical expert, but I hope it helps out either in refining this or on your future projects. =)
Brilliant feedback, thanks so much!! :) I think I loved the theme so much originally that I wanted to keep the same feel rhythmically. Speaking of the suspended / dissonant chords in the soundtrack.... they're amazing aren't they?! :D
Oh, totally! I really love their approach in almost masking the themes behind the disjointed rhythms and the drastically different chords. It's like every musical callback is a whisper of a theme lost to time.
I dunno, it might just be me, but I could see this in the game.
Artsy Omni Totally agree, BoTW does use some complex harmony, however if you notice the descending line at 0:33 the way it interacts with the higher part almost gives it that kind of Jazzy chord clash
Artsy Omni these songs are sort of like when the game is finished and Ganon is defeated. It's like hyrule is now rebuilding and becoming fixed together

This is great but I seriously doubt that Sheik will appear in Breath of the Wild, at least not in the same way he did in Ocarina of Time. Not only would it ruin the story that seems to be based around Link's interactions with Zelda, it wouldn't have the same shock as in Ocarina of Time.

Completely agree. The vocals feel a bit out of place, otherwise I think the composition is nearly perfect.
Please, without vocals! I regularly play this song and stop it right when the vocals start because they ruin the atmosphere

This version is so ethereal, I can't really explain. So absolutely lovely, pleasant, and moving. Quite possibly the very best cover to exist, I think I like this more than the original even. Thank you for making it. :)
When I was growing up, the neighborhood I lived in when I was quite young had a huge yard sale every year and I remember my mom waking me up very early for it, before everything started happening, and sitting in the front yard with the sun just having risen, when dew was still on the grass, and before the summer heat came in. This music gave me the same feeling I felt then.
If ever Nintendo decides to give Ocarina of Time a ground-up remake ala FF7R, then I hope Sheik's theme sounds even half as good as this.

Why does Sheik's theme sound so sad you ask?
Possibly because it's around the time Ganon rules everything and has ruined much of the world of OOT, killing many people, presumably destroying homes and shelters, and creating powerful monsters all over that world.
It also has a sense of hope to it as well however which represents Link IMO.
I can’t find it in the sea of comments on this video, but someone once pointed out that this song would be even more beautiful if they played it when Link reached Zelda’s Study or somewhere else related to her in Hyrule Castle.
And to that person I just want to say, “fuck you for taking this amazing music and making me cry even more than I already was. Jerk.”

I was so heart broken when I found out that Nintendo changed ideas and didn't add sheik in twilight princess. The model for sheik was instead used in the Super Smash brawl.
