I think it's easiest to play with a partner because you've already (hopefully) got very solid communication with each other so there's no issues. I think people forget communication is important in all relationships, romantic or not sometimes :)

You forgot to mention the lag, I was warding off monsters in the mine with my bestie while he mined with a slingshot bomb, i killed a dust sprite and it dropped a Prismatic Shard, but instead of going into my backpack he took it from quite far away while I'm literally standing really close to it. He cashed in the Galaxy Sword immediately while i threw a tantrum :')
You can set the funds to seperate. I once joined the world of my friends friends. 2 people I didn't know alongside my friend. I was already feeling pretty awkward so I was just kinda doing my own thing. It was spring 1 so I stacked some cash and went to pierres and blew all my money on crops as you do to make as much profit as possible.... then to my terror I realized the funds were shared by ALL of us. thankfully they thought it was funny and it didn't matter in the end but omg the stomach drop moment lol
Even worse, your friend can consistently follow you and give you gift prompts, so you always have to run or else you'll get asked 117 times if you'd like to accept their dandelion. (Yes this is based off of experience)

If you're having problems in sharing money, you can go to lewis house and theres a book with an option to get "divided bank accounts" And if you have 1,000g and you divide it you will get 500g and your friend will have another 500g

Did you know there is a multiplication glitch? All you have to do is get a piece of furniture (i like to use gem replicators) And you and your friend use a pickaxe and hit it at the same time and it will drop 2 things and not 1
This is why communication is so important, even in gaming. My fiancé, his brother and I play Stardew together. We check with each other on the purchases, going so far as to suggest getting geodes processed in the morning because an axe is needing an upgrade that day.

I started playing multiplayer with my partner recently and we're always discussing and debating when to buy specific stuff before we get it. We're only in the middle of Summer 1 but we've been blazing through and came up with a plan. Spring 1 we first bought a silo, the first backpack upgrades, and upgraded our tools to copper. Summer 1 we're focusing on iron upgrades and upgrading the house to a kitchen. Fall 1 we're gonna build the first barn & coop and get the animals. Winter 1 we're doing gold upgrades and maybe the 2nd backpack upgrade. It's most helpful if you're communicating verbally. If you can't play in the same room, then maybe do phone calls or discord calls. Whatever works for you.
The hardest thing to adjust to is the no pausing in multiplayer, this also applies to time not freezing during npc heart events. Meaning entire days can be lost just watching the cutscenes, since if you skip them you miss out on extra friend points. Also sorting chests becomes a speedrun due to time not stopping when opening them.
I relate to this so badly! My gold is missing and there's some random background noises (from the other player) when I triggered an event on the same map.
I see everyone in the comments complaining about how they died because the pausing is different in multiplayer but i havent really had that problem. Me and my brother have been playing multiplayer stardew every day and if you eat in the mines time doesnt pause but the monsters cant do damage to you during the animation and if we’re ever in a pickle we yell for the other to pause
Same. I play with my siblings too. I think having multiplayer and shared money is actually pretty useful... Like if I run out of energy and haven't watered the garden yet, then the other player could just do that. And mining together is so much faster too. Plus when there's a quest on the board and you both do it, you get twice the money. And you each get the rewards from the museum.

My multiplayer experience was really good, actually, my best friend and i was almost fighting like "you buy the bag upgrade. No, you buy it" and we had a really nice gameplay, really cozy
The best thing about multiplayer with my two friends is summarized in 3 examples Hearing my friend on call go "nooo" and then immediately afterwards getting the notif that he passed out in the skull caves Randomly hearing the words "bad news, we're poor now" and seeing our money disappear within the blink of an eye And being "wingmen" whenever it comes to spouses - if we get smn that is a favorite of someone else's spouse, then we give it to them to give as a gift

Separating money is the best-recommended option for multiplayer. Even I wouldn't trust my hard-earned money for someone buying an expensive boot or upgrading their house. Then again, back then, there no money separation, so it was shtty. Pausing can be a problem if you're not prepared. I'd rather set my secondary backpack slots as "Dungeon set". Simply just place your pickaxe and weapon at the first and second slot to the left (or right, if you're lefty), adding with whatever edibles that can recover you, and bombs at the end of the slot. Switching between bombs and pickaxe is faster this way, while the food can be eaten whenever you're safe. Then again, unless the mouse wheel works the same, this set is only useful for controller, not PC. Also, someone skip-sleeping (sleep for next day without current-day effort) works the same as pausing. Even waiting for another player(s) during a festival event (Egg Hunt, Fishing Competition, Moonlight Jellyfish, etc.) also counts as pausing.
I did the shared money on my first world with my daughter and it was a nightmare. She’s 7, so not too knowledgeable about money yet, but ugh! We split funds on our next farm, and I learned to hide my chests so she doesn’t “accidentally” take stuff I need/ have been saving for community center or whatever. I’ve just come to accept no pauses, and skip every cutscene even if it’s one I haven’t seen because I cannot waste that time
My sister and i always shout what are we going to do before clicking bc we freak out when the money starts to disappear out of nowere 😂 so you can be fishing and suddenly hear "PICKAXE" and the money starts to go down
The time thing is so easy to work around, if you need to take a break make sure one of you sells something. Also, just be coordinated or if you need to be invulnerable for a second, eat something.
I played with my friends we really had a hard 1st yr. We litterally had to set territories to plant trees because there were not enough wood for the three of us. One of my friends would always cut all the trees and hardwood and some times cut the trees I planted. And in the mines we decided to not go with each other because the drops would be picked by another especially if you found a rare drop
I remember starting a file with two friends and combined earnings. One of them bought a giant stuffed animal at the spring festival and we lost all of our money

I never had some kind of problem with share money with my friend. We always were crystal clear about what we'll do with money. Organization and conversation will always save you on the Stardew Valley Multiplayer.
not to mention, time absolutely FLIES in multiplayer. in single player, the game does all these micropauses when you're eating/picking/fishing/traveling between maps/etc etc, but in multiplayer? ZERO micropauses. Cuts the time of the day down to a small fraction of what a full day in singleplayer Stardew feels like

with my friends we make sure to sell at least one thing a day and use the in between day time to look up whatever

One of my friends would always cut all the trees and hardwood and some times cut the trees I planted. And in the mines we decided to not go with each other because the drops would be picked by another especially if you found a rare drop

I always put the money on separate. I only go to the mines with my brother so if one is on low health the other covers for them as they eat something.

not to mention, time absolutely FLIES in multiplayer. in single player, the game does all these micropauses when you're eating/picking/fishing/traveling between maps/etc etc, but in multiplayer? ZERO micropauses. Cuts the time of the day down to a small fraction of what a full day in singleplayer Stardew feels like
