Very interesting video, but I just want to add that Black Friday isn’t a 21st century thing but a 1920s financial crisis thing. In 1929 the whole western world experienced a horrible economic crisis, which led to inflation and money constantly loosing it’s value, so that people, like now stormed the stores to get food for their money. The day of the stock market crashing was known as Black Thursday/black Friday (depending on the time zone). Now the day is used for... the whole country going crazy, I really feel lucky that this isn’t as big of a deal in Europe
I collect antique Christmas cards. We often think of them as something that has been around a long time but prior to the first world war they were actually quite rare in their current form. Christmas postcards were the form they took in the late 19th century and didn't get inserted into envelopes until after that. Two things strike me as interesting about Christmas post cards. First is that so many of the iconic symbols we think of as Christmas appropriate were absent from most such cards and second, Santa Claus was rarely depicted wearing red until the 1920's and did not take to exclusive red attire until the 1930's. Prior to WWI Santa could be seen wearing winter suits of every color of the rainbow. I have cards showing him wearing green, brown, white, purple, orange, gold, grey and blue and often not wearing typical winter suits at all. Some showed him in multi colored bishops garb and sometimes he was dressed as a small elf and neither fat nor jolly. The typical Christmas postcard would say either "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Christmas" and depict flowers, birds, butterflies or simply decorative scrollwork which were it not for the written sentiment, one could not tell what holiday they were celebrating. Then Coca Cola came along and began depicting him in their advertising as being rotund with a white beard and red winter suit with white trim and rosy cheeks. It didn't take long for Santa Claus to conform universally to that format. It appears that sometime in the 1970's Santa Claus quit his nicotine habit as you will rarely see him smoking his pipe after that. My first Christmas card for my collection came from my grandmother. It was the first Christmas card her grandmother sent her in 1900. It shows Santa Claus wearing an ankle length green Bishop's coat and miter with ermine trim. He had a long pointed beard similar to Gandalf from Lord of the Rings. He smoked a long slender pipe. He did ride a sleigh but it was all gold and was pulled by two reindeer not eight. It did not appear to fly. There was no sack. The toys were piled up in the back of the sleigh. He did have elves and they were all wearing multi colored suits and did look elf like with pointy ears but every one had an evil grin. The caption read "Happy Christmas to All!" Around the border was the hand written note from my great, great grandmother to my grandmother wishing her a happy Christmas. In those days one could not write a message on the address side of a post card. I remember my grandmother telling me "You know, our ancestors didn't celebrate Christmas. It was illegal. They could go to prison or be whipped." She was from Massachusetts.
@@loremontibeller7582 because it was considered a pagan holiday and didn't have anything to do with Christianity, at least the way it was originally celebrated when America was first settled.
@@loremontibeller7582 crazy right?! I think it was only banned in Massachusetts though. It was an ordinance passed in 1659 that fined anyone celebrating Christmas. The Puritans banned it because of its pagan roots and also because celebrating it involved partying which they were strictly against lol. And yea, even in my church there are members that won't celebrate Christmas because they feel like it has nothing to do with Christ at all, especially in the current way its celebrated.
@@mtblaho, your explanation is very accurate. You're correct about the Puritans & the Massachusetts law. Christmas is a tradition in our family, but then I have German ancestors, like Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert. However, my daughter refuses to celebrate Christmas, and she is teaching her children why. She also refuses to celebrate Halloween for much the same reason. She WILL celebrate Hanukkah, but only because we have Jewish friends, I celebrated it with them when she was young, and it is historically accurate & pure. I celebrate Christmas & try to celebrate Hanukkah, although not properly like a Jewish household. I think I might try starting a tradition of celebrating Christmas in June. After all, Hallmark has "Christmas in July" celebrations.. lol.
You also forgot to mention that the Germanic tradition of the Tannenbaum or Christmas tree actually stemmed from the Odin tree during the time of Norse gods and mythology. After the animals had been sacrificed and prior to their having been cooked for the festivities at Midwinter their heads were hung from evergreen trees in Scandinavia usually in multiples of 9 because that was a number sacred to Odin. These later became the representation of wooden ornaments on the Christmas trees in Germany and Christianized Scandinavia. While as a Christian I try to keep the Christ in Christmas, I am not so rabid as to not enjoy some of the customs that we have picked up from our pagan ancestors over the centuries.
Please tell me you don't hang 9 animal heads from your tree??? Perhaps 20 years ago, I went on a tour of the Christmas decorations at the White House, and one tree had all hand made ornaments from each state, and one from a southwestern state, was a mummified bat, from children of an Indian tribe. I'm amazed at how our traditions originated!
@@andythompson6874 nope; no animal heads on the tree. I do sit and quietly chuckle to myself wbenever I see or hear something that is particularly sentimental, though.
As a fellow Christian i can assure you that there is no Christ in Christmas. The Roman Catholic Church fused the Christian nativity story in the Bible with ancient pagan rituals and traditions in a bid to lure more unbelievers into their corrupt "church". They simply took ancient pagan practices made to honour their Gods and replaced them with the names revered in our faith. I implore you to end the celebration of this pagan holiday, as by doing this you are not honouring the Lord God, but their pagan gods. I strongly encourage you to watch the video I have linked below, as it gives a better explanation than I have. God bless. ruclips.net/video/YEDXBmMv5zE/видео.html
@@xeronix9774 it is up to us to keep Christ in Christmas. And the best way of doing that is to teach our children what his message is and was and always shall be and that is to love one another. I hope that you have done that with your family as I have tried to do with mine. Merry Christmas.
From what you just described, let’s remember what Linus once said when threatened by his sister Lucy in “A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS”, “Christmas is not only getting too commercial, it’s getting too dangerous.”
How to find truth which is hidden in the plain sight? Play with the letters and the words and you shall see that santa = satan. Know the bible and what is written about the devil and you shall notice the same behaviour shared by santa, whom you yearly warmly welcome. xmas is about a demon named KRAMPUS and Without the BIBLE we will only reach to share half information. + Know the signs and symbols of freemasonry and you shall see the vow of silence the dear santa of yours show off.
Lucy was always exaggerating, and even Charlie Brown knew that deep down, but never let on, thereby humoring Lucy too much. So it’s just no wonder that Charlie Brown obtained a Masters Degree from Texas A&M in Business Administration before he married the little red haired girl after graduation and bought himself a fully restored 1975 Mack Cruiseliner cabover semi truck complete with a 40’FT Great Dane reefer trailer and they both have the yellow with black zigzag paint scheme that matches his shirt, not to mention that they now live at 517 South Rainey Street in Arlen, Texas, across the street from propane salesman Hank Hill.
I am so grateful for pagans. Christmas would be soooooo boring without their traditions being a basis. I wish I could travel back in time and participate in the crazy drunken parade Christmas lol. Sounds like even MORE fun!
Wow this is the very first time I've heard any thing any of these stories...the one I hear was about nimrod, his mother and brother killed nimrod father of a brutal death so that the blood line from the mother and her son blood line would be closer and once the child was born she would go out in the woods and decorate a cheer in honor of the child and put gifts .
The only celebration God told us to never forget was the passover. The same passover Christ was eating the night he was taken into custody. Regarding christmas, all meaning seems to have been lost. Even the story of saint nicholas has been lost to pagan idolatry.
I believe in Jesus Christ, but Christmas no. Some people will wait all the way to December to give to a person who needed clothes 11 months ago. Slavery is real. Love you all thanks to God

When I was little in rural Georgia in the late 1950's and early 1960's, our tree always had multi-colored lights with egg sized bulbs that got hot real fast so we had to turn them off, then turn on this device with a light bulb in it sitting on the floor with panels of multi-colored glass which rotated and turned the entire tree and room colors. Not until high school did I see a tree with all white lights and thought it was the freakiest thing I had ever seen, so even today my tree lights are multi-colored. I ate bananas religiously as a child, and one Christmas morning, Santa had brought a giant bunch of bananas taller than me, cut right outta the tree in Guatemala, and hung them in our living room. Grandma said the reindeer ate bananas so Santa had to keep them in his sleigh. My cousins and neighbor kids and I ate bananas until we were sick that week, but I still love them. To this day, I hang ceramic bananas in my living room and on my tree, with red cardinals which my uncle hand carved before I was born. Even now, we are creating new traditions.
But do not forget the deepest meaning of Christmas as we interpret and celebrate it today. It's the time not just of giving gifts, but also show our love to everyone, reconciliation, and most of all, welcoming the messiah to save this illing world.

Saturn was the god of time, and according to ancient roman history he founded a city where Rome currently stands, and in that city people lived in innocence with no war, no slaves, no laws, no money, and the Saturnalia were celebrated as a memory to that time. The god of the sun was Sol Invictus, he was celebrated 25th of December as days were becoming gradually longer and Sol was the bringer of light. I live in Rome and am a historian.
Thank you for that clarification because the worship of Sol Invictus later became the basis for Mithras Invictus in the Middle East whose birthday from a virgin was also on December 25th.
@New Eyes To See that was not Constantine. It was emperor Theodosius in 383 AD. Sunday under his ruling became a mandatory resting day for romans. Only the germanic languages (or languages that come from germanic) still have the sun reference in the name for sunday. In latin the name of the seventh day of the week was changed from dies solis (day of the sun) to dies dominica (day of the lord).

@@jennifermercer3481 There's a difference between "pagan" and "NEOpagan." Modern pagans aren't responsible for, nor have we any unbroken ties to, any of the holidays whose roots are pre-Christian. If you're learning from books, you're reading the wrong books, and if you're learning from a teacher, they're teaching the popular folk-history that was being taught in the 70s and 80s, but which has since been disproven. Leave it to Capitalists to turn ALL festivals into a matter of buying and giving - whether candy on Halloween, baskets on Easter, jewelry on Valentine's Day, etc - these gifts take away what TRULY is a Holy-Day!
Without Capitalism would there be anything worth giving? With capitalism, people make the choice to stand in line to get things like phones and gaming systems. With Communism, people are forced to wait in line for government cheese and bread!
People have choices on wether or not to buy such things with Capitalism. If people waste money on “consumption” then that is their option. In Socialism, the taxes are so high that only the wealthier people can afford to buy such things. And in Communism, there are only the super rich and the super poor, so they cannot purchase such things and probably not given the choice either way because of the government dictating and controlling the masses. So I can understand why you dislike capitalism. Lol. I will take capitalism any day over over the other options!!!
I recall I attended the first Black Friday, and I thought to myself "Why would I do this to myself in the future." And I never have since. Besides, the Labor Day online sales are better anyway.
This was the start of the holiday, But over time it has morphed into a holiday honoring the Birth of Christ. With added traditions to make for a much better version then what we started out with. Christmas is not the only holiday that has morphed in to a more christian version for today. I used to think that was terrible thing but my perspective has softened. it counts more what we celebrate the Holiday for now.
The appropriation of Saturnalia is an old idea that's been pretty much debunked in recent times. Religion For Breakfast just did a good video about it on his RUclips. Also experts don't say Jesus was born in September. There's a lot of badhistory out there saying he would have been born in the spring, but no true "expert" would make that claim since the existence of Jesus at all isn't backed up with too many extrabiblical sources, and the bible itself doesn't say anything about when he was born. Sheep are mentioned in Luke as being out in the field, so some hypothesize that it couldn't have been in the winter since it would be too cold for sheep, but that's it. Edit: I've never heard the September thing in any academic setting but I'm personally not an expert, so that's not my hill to die on lol

Samhain is not pronounced "sam-hayn". :-P It's pronounced "sow-en" (sow rhyming with cow). It's the Irish word for November. ;-) In Irish, "mh" makes either a "w" or "v" sound. In the word Samhain, it's a "w" sound. In my name, Niamh, it's a "v". ;-)
I find this video very informative, Thank you. What I do know is that the spirit of God is waking up the church because there's about little to no time left before our Lord Jesus comes and as he comes, he's coming for a spotless and holy bride/church (Eph.5:27) and for him to meet a spotless bride, he has to prepare, cleanse and purge her. This is exactly what the holy spirit is doing in this time and season we're in and to me, this also involves exposing that which is in darkness to light. At one point last year, I asked Holyspirit to please show me and teach me what's on our Lord's heart and I believe that some of the things that the Lord is addressing in his church today are the Traditions of men (Col.2:8). The times are evil, let's be alert and watchful for the devices of the devil. God Bless you brothers and sisters.
Excellent and thoroughly researched video as usual, Lindsay. There's one angle missing, however - that of Saint Nicholas of Bari, the original St. Nick. He was an early Christian saint and a martyr, a bishop. According to the legend there was an old and poor widower who had three teenage daughters. He had no dowry to give them, so the marriage prospects were excluded, he could no longer support them either so the only option left for him was to sell them all to a brothel. St. Nicholas heard of their plight and dropped three golden balls through the chimney in the night as their dowries. For many centuries in England three golden balls on a sign was used by pawn shops as the symbol of last resort for those who were desperate for some quick and ready cash at their hour of need.
Saint nick is not a Christian reference though. You have to look at it chronological order, one Christianity is not in the helios biblia (bible)or (book of the sun). Those saints, etc are not literal people but references to positions of the sun throughout the mozareth, or zodiac. Initially you have krampus, saturnalia, etc etc. The yule log were set in fireplaces as a symbol of sacrificing the children to krampus also known as Saint nick as well.
How can anything celebrated in December be referred to as “midwinter”? Winter literally starts 4 days before Christmas. As a Canadian, I can understand that northern winters like those in Scandinavia can feel like it’s already been going on for a while by the time Christmas rolls around but there’s actually 3 more calendar months of it left and about the same for the frigid temperatures. I love it though. I wouldn’t choose to live somewhere warm year round for all the money in the world, I loath heat. Have a merry Christmas wherever you live!!!
I have heard that in ancient times the seasons were figured differently. Winter started about the end of October, so Mid-Winter would be about December 21. This was practical, since the major part of the harvesting was finished by November, marking the beginning of the winter season.
Howard Wiggins oh, well that makes sense. But I think they need to stop referring to these holidays in December as mid-winter now. Although, in Canada, and where I live in Canada specifically, it really does feel mid-winter. Three more months of winter before we bypass Spring entirely and enter boiling hot temps of Summer-like weather, lol
The shortest day and longest night of the year is the winter solstice and is often thought of as the mid winter point not based on what the calendar says or the climate but on the fact that it was the darkest day of the year and so it was called mid winter. Winter for a long time referred more to a lack of light than a lack of heat. This is more noticeable in northern climes.

Helios was the Sun god. Saturn covered a lot of things, but it closely related to time, as his Greek counterpart was Cronus. Sometimes Apollo is sometimes called "The Sun God" but that's not accurate either until later, when Helios was forgotten. These gods often covered a lot of things all at once, you could decide what you wanted them to help you with. Christianity (Catholic) replaced them with Saints.

I would love to see your collection
God bless.

If you're learning from books, you're reading the wrong books, and if you're learning from a teacher, they're teaching the popular folk-history that was being taught in the 70s and 80s, but which has since been disproven.
(I say that as a thirty-year veteran Wiccan/Druid/Heathen animist.)

What about what Martin Luther was said to have been saying about the holiday?

Who cares. We get the gist
God Bless you brothers and sisters.
the ending of this video is gold :D
Very good video and good explanation. Short n straight to the many points. Thank u

This is more noticeable in northern climes.

i´m german and never heard of the belsnickel lol
It is a big thing around the Rhine in the southwest of Germany. My exmother in law spoke of it. She is from that part of Germany.
Great video!
Now do you see why Jehovah’s Witnesses do not celebrate Christmas? Instead they celebrate the Memorial of Christs’ death; a celebration that truly honors Christ. Very well done my dear.
Are you a Jehovah’s Witness?
Jehovah witnesses, the bible said not to change Gods word jehovah witnesses did that by making multiple bibles like niv esv rsv and more
Not celebrating Christmas isn't a jehovah witness thing, they stole that from the people of the Bible and anybody else who knows how to read. All the people I know that don't celebrate it have nothing to do with that man made religion.
@@jessicahardacre6035 we didn't change God's word. Does are simply versions in modern English which have tried to restore God's name in the original positions. They were translated from the original manuscripts. Nothing has been added nor removed from the Bible

@@ochoocho I'm a different religion then these people. I'm a Progressive Baptist Christian. But I have no ill well about them. I believe in freedom of religion for all. If your religion is Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Satanism, Paganism, or any of the others. I don't care, freedom is freedom. I pray to Jesus Christ & I think his the son of God. And that's all I need. I don't care about nothing else. You can't change me or my beliefs. And I will not try to change yours. A have blessed holidays if you do the holiday stuff. If not then good well to you & your offspring if you choose to have kids.

Holy moly!!! That’s so terrifying!!!! Thank the Lord we live today!!!!
0:30 Bathory starts playing in the background
Matthew 15:19 Jesus said:
"And in vain do they worship me, teaching instructions that are the commandments of humans.'"
🤔 For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander.
Matthew 15:19
Man write dat
Why does the Bible sound so uptight and boring then the Pagan tradition was so much fun and meaningful? I feel the Bible just screams follow us or feel our wrath kind of tease... nothing holy about it.
Maybe Jesus was born in spring as well because Shepards would watch over their sheep outside. Maybe March, but the Jews at the time did not celebrate birthdays as you said.
I have found proof that he was TRULY born in December.
Aerial footage of the Elburz Mountains in northwestern Iran 🇮🇷, covered with snow in late November in the segment known as “LAND OF THE IBEX” from Mutual Of Omaha Wild Kingdom on RUclips.
Just watch the footage in question, and take notice of the scenery, just in case.
A life without christ is pointless.
And empty
AMEN!!!
A life of truthfulness is received by immortality of our life n Christ is coming soon. Is it worth celebrating Pagan holidays ? Not to me ! ❣💐🙏👑 Christ is King
Life is pointless !
Humans like to have some control over their ‘pointless’ lives. Religion was created for control n comfort.
Black Friday = Christmas's Feats of Strength. Happy Festivus for the Restivus.
As a Wiccan I’m planning on celebrating Yuletide! Also for future reference Samhain is pronounced “Sa-wain”
Mariah Zeh I've made a wall hanging out of a small pine tree branch of needles with a small pine cone already attached, vines and twine. I made it in the spirit of my Scandinavian heritage! It looks pretty cool, too!
Seiferboy Gaming that sounds awesome! I have some Scandinavian heritage as well!
Mariah Zeh Yule is the old english word for what Scandinavians call " Jul ", We never changed it to anything with " Christ " in it. Which I’m really happy about.
Yep, my aunt was so, right about that one though!
''Poops out thair Presents'' that's ThEE most stupid thing I ever heard!!🤣🤣🤣
I'm a descendant of Charlemagne. It's great to know how all this integrated into what we know as, Merry Christmas 2020. May we all live to see more Yule live it out.
christ-mass is a orgy festival for ba'al...it is ungodly, wicked, and Jesus hates it.

*Worshipping someone who eats, sleep, and perform miracles like many other prophets before as a God or son of God is also paganism!!!* ( NOTE: Even Adam and Eve did not have parents so, will you worship them as well!!) BIBLE HAS BEEN CHANGED THOUSAND TIMES IN THE LAST TWO THOUSAND YEARS
This is VERY Interesting, I'm very glad to know this, cant wait to share this with my God Fearing Friends
Saturn I don't think was the God of the Sun.
Christianity (Catholic) replaced them with Saints.
viking culture still thrives even in modern history that tries to deny its contribution
Now I always thought Jesus was a Summer Baby,.. born in July. Where did September come from??..
It is very possible he wasnt a historical person in the first place. Records contain more than one person with that name, each with recorded events that are similar to those in christian mythology, their ending differed, but would have been combined into a single mythological person.
Actualky, modern scientists think it's more likely in March due to the stars that were supposed to be in the sky at the time.
Thank you 😊
